Man if people listened to this I wouldn't have to constantly tell people that it's okay to like things that other people don't but this is the internet and everyone identifies so hard with the things they like that they take it all personally.

Disliking recent choices a developer has made in terms of their writing or mechanics doesn't invalidate their past achievements. I know it's a hard thing to grasp but it's okay to be disappointed in a game and still hope the next one is good. For some people, Bethesda games aren't disappointing or they are but they still enjoy them. It's easy to lump in gamers under the same umbrella as all being hateful little shits that shit on a game then go and pre order it but the average gaming commentator on the internet is not indicative of the common consumer.

I dump on BioWare games but I still enjoy them. I'm not going to get Anthem unless they show me that it isn't just a third person Destiny or whatever the hell it is but even though I thought a lot of Inquisition was kind of a chore if they announced Dragon Age 4 fuckin tomorrow you bet your ass I'd pre order that shit and you bet your ass I'd still dump on BioWare's inconsistent writing. Everyone's favorite game has flaws and no developer is undeserving of criticism, be it honest or hyperbolic.

Fallout 76 news is slowly looking a bit better. Things are so in the air right now that I'm fully hooked on watching the Bethesda conference to see if #saveplayer1 is still a thing or not.

Pete has hinted that more is coming, as well. Hopefully we'll see Starfield and maybe an online version of caravan

In all seriousness, I'll repost a JuiceHead video on the subject that I shared in the Bethesda channel on RPGO.



EDIT: I don't genuinely believe BGS are bad developers. They make bad decisions, and their games are buggy, but games like Morrowind prove they're capable of delivering a good game. Unfortunately, Morrowind also had absolutely ass combat, so it seems we gotta sacrifice one good feature for a slew of others. It's all about finding the right balance. While we can't know for sure what goes on behind the scenes, I wonder how much of the complaints about BGS games are BGS' fault, and how many are actually due to meddling by Bethesda Softworks. They probably share the same view on a lot of things, but publishers are known to meddle.

Yes it's easy, and the reason why is more of an overall issue I have with most 'game commentators' as a whole. They took snark, irony and cynicism too damn far. It was like a formula that can make you seem funny and intelligent in small doeses but no one knows how turn it the fuck off.

The effect that the angry video game nerd, gamingsins and zero punctuation has had on the gaiming community is so evident. We are stuck in perpetual teenage mode where dumping on games is edgy and cool and praise for anything has to be measured with a table spoon of 'meh' indifference. Its like groundhog day for late 2008.

So yeah when you build your whole online persona on shitting on everything. Its difficult to tell you apart from people on the internet who genuinely do just shit on everything.
