@CollectorOfMyst Aw thanks! I actually gave this some thought after Essa gave Oren hers! I'm thinking catalysts, being special divine objects, are incredibly difficult to destroy. But, it is possible. And the destruction of a catalyst, especially one that has seen a lot of use, would result in something akin to a crazy magical explosion. And when I say magical, I mean like, the results would be pretty insane. Think reality being warped or something along those lines.

oh man, so much for destroying a catalyst to depower an inquisitor...And this also makes Essa handing hers over less of a Big Deal (yes, Ziotea considered destroying it).

hey, if it's known that destroying them makes reality warping stuff, that totally explains Omestris.

Does it explain Omestris, though?

Also... what if they released a sort of, pseudo-explosion, in that it released pure magical energy? So basically, a bomb. Also doubles as a β€˜suicide device’ to prevent capture or some such, whilst taking out the captors.

@CollectorOfMyst well I mean reality seems warped there, so it's a possible explanation (though not the right one, I'm sure). I personally like the idea of it being a massive magic bomb that just...KOs everyone in the area. Maybe with a side of hallucinations/reality warping for a little bit.

@shylarah Pretty much what I had in mind. It's a big bomb that can have strange arcane effects on the area it was detonated in.

@CollectorOfMyst

Also yes, they can be used as last ditch suicide bombs, though I think with them being so hard to destroy, they'd need to be primed in some way before going off. Maybe the process for an inquisitor to destroy their own catalyst can be a bit less arduous?

@shylarah

Oh and I would say that Essa handing over her catalyst to Oren could be considered a big deal. Both for sentimental reasons, and also because she basically gave him an extremely powerful bomb that is now his to with as he pleases. Also, it means that Essa has been using her own ether pool to use magic, which is why she's a bit sleepy at the moment.

It does mean that Ziotea targeting a rival Inquisitor's catalyst is less viable, since that'd be dangerous to herself and her teammates, but...she'll figure somehting out. Taking it away from them should work just as well.

@shylarah Yeah, forcibly taking away someone's catalyst could definitely be done, but I feel like most inquisitors would protect that thing with their lives. It's an object that's central to their being, and losing it would suck a lot. Also, not all catalysts are the same. For example, Elisheva's catalyst is actually embedded within her eye!

@Lovejoy yes I noticed. Which is super creepy, and probably hurt. A lot. She couldn't have been born that way.

And this after the description that said she was born with heterochroma, too.

Aww thanks! I've always enjoyed writing combat scenes.

I've sort of pictured Terviclops as being a sort of carnal force that would kind of just attack everything if he wasn't under Tatiana's control, but who knows? That was just my first idea.

I'm getting caught up right now - reading posts and reviewing character sheets, as it's been a while since I did and I'm trying to get everybody's characters straight in my head.

@CollectorOfMyst Under the relationships for Oren, he mentions that Viveca was born free... Is that because he believes she was born free? She was born semi-free, as her family moved around a lot, but she hardly remembers a time before she was imprisoned in an ether mine, pumps sucking the very life out of her body. Just wanted to be sure going forward of whether it was a character thing, like he doesn't know her too well. She wouldn't be one to speak much of her time in the mine anyway, so it's very likely she would be perceived as free unless asked.

@Scout Oh? Did I misinterpret? I thought that her history was that she and her family were 'runaways', in a sense. That's why she was born 'free', even though she eventually was enslaved.
