Could somebody please tell me how much a bipedal being with the foot size of an average human can weigh before it starts sinking into soil?

As far as I can make out (from some very scant research) the average human male exerts roughly 100kpa when walking on the earth. Very weak soil can withstand around 300kpa, before you literally sink through it.

Thanks for the info. ^.^
It seems quite unsettling though, as that means some attire as heavy as ~250 lbs would already be inefficient in such terrain, and that's actualy what i wanted just the blade of one my characters to weigh. Looks like no fighting in bogs for me, eh?

Zweihanders, one of the largest swords produced historically weighed from 2-4kg. Anywhere above 4kg/8.9lbs was considered impractical and was used ceremonially for the most part.

A heavy blade is actually somewhat pointless, though a heavy mace or maul is a different story altogether.

Technically a bog's kpa is like 40, so a man standing will slowly sink, if you weighed that much you'd probably start drowning.

Once you reach a certain weight with a blade it becomes a club, honestly.

Rilla and Khan brought me here. I'll be maybe joining. But I have some reading to do and maybe some PMs to send before I know for sure.

Hm? Why should a blade not weigh that much when your character can deadlift several tons? One could probably use it as effectively as a well trained human with a fitting sword if able to preform such feats of strength, not to mention that the weapon itself is aimed to destroy kevlar and ceramics armor in one sweep at its very least. Of course, weight will not be its only advantage, yet i still see it as essetial.

Indeed. Why not if you can lift tons. A 5 lb blade would be as a plastic knife in your grasp.

Take your time Skalla, I'm watching ludicrously bad B movies and cartoons right now. I'm also in the process of baking almost 40 lbs of potatoes. So I've got that on my plate.

Not literally, it would shatter any plate that I had if I put that much weight on it.

But back to the sword thing. A sword that heavy is still impractical in my book, because at that point it's basically construction equipment.

Bah, i still like the thought of being able to leave a clean cut concrete with the flick of one's wrist, and a heavy, sharp blade sure will help achive that. >:3
And now i bid you all farwell as i am off to sleep. Goodnight.

Looking at the current roster... I feel like nearly all of my characters would be Low tier, Intermediate at best.

This is discouraging...

I think the logic behind it is making a blade heavier doesn't really make it any sharper, which is the main reason why blades exist*, for stabbing and cutting. Making a weapon heavier means you can apply more force as the weight of the weapon is added to your attack, but that's not really beneficial to a sword because you're just wasting additional energy to do the exact same thing, cut or stab, which can be done just as effectively by using a sharper weapon. (that's just how pressure works.) Where-as with a mace or hammer, the idea is just to project a shit-ton of physical trauma into a wide area of the opponent's body, to shatter bones and cause massive internal damage. This is directly proportional to physical force and weight. (which incidentally is why it would be my preferred weapon, because I'm big and slow.)

*disclaimer, I'm aware blades aren't anything like what you see in bad samurai movies. In fact, it was counter-intuitive to make your blade -too- sharp, especially with longswords etc.

I found this was the case for most of my characters, it's worth considering that because everyone has stronger characters no-one has stronger characters though, so what I'm saying is ramping up your character's power levels doesn't feel like a cop out, nor does it mean you're going to easily sweep the floor with anyone.

Mine will be intermediate, sort of in the upper range. However, I'm putting if off until I catch up on some other stuff.

LeeRoy:

Physically Low
Mentally High
Technology High
No martial arts training, prefers to stick to handguns and rifles, doesn't use melee period.

Basically the most physically inept character here, so there's not much of an issue with low to intermediate characters being posted.

"Ramping up" my characters compromises the core of what my characters are. If I amp them up, I lose what they were and what I loved about them. I like their strengths AND their weaknesses. I put a lot of thought into every character I have i my vault, and would be upset if I had to power them up.

I just don't know. Maybe it's all in how I word them. But in any case, I feel moderately intimidated by the sheer power of the present characters.

Most of the characters are intermediates the high tiers are currently used to drive the meta-story forward.
