@Yam I Am

I didn't mean Evil like Evil-Evil. I meant it, like, from Katrina's point of view. In the version of her that I'm imagining she was raised by a family of warriors devoted to Saint Zariah. So, she was taught Saint Zariah is Good and Lord Ahriman is Evil. Except she was trained to be a perfect warrior with beatings and harsh words rather than care and praise. She was taught that she would never get to be the Main Charater. She would always be Support and that's galls her. And that's suppose to be Good? Katrina doesn't really think so, but if it is and Evil is the opposite of Good she might as well try Evil. Rolf's whispering are really "Hey let's murder this town." It's more like, "You can just leave home. Who's gonna stop you?" And "You could charge for defeating that troll that terrified that village." And my favorite, "Who gives a damn if he's a priest of Saint Zariah. He raped a child! Killing him would be easy." Less about Evil and more about learning that sometime you can be a little selfish, a little violent, a little less than a sheep with teeth and a little more a wolf with heart.

Character regression because she stops caring about mindless Good and starts questioning is Evil really Evil-Evil?

Does that make sense?

It would be like if Stephanie from No Game No Life or Viktoriya from Tanya thr Evil were competent and had enough of catering to strangers from another world and left to figure out how to write their own story. Kind of. Those are the only real examples I can think of but they are perfect.

Aaaaaah, ok, I think I misunderstood at first.

Guess it never hurts to clarify a few things, though. In that sense, yeah, I think it works pretty well.

I should be able to get to my computer soon and actually write up a proper backstory rather than just spitting out ideas on my phone soonish. Hopefully that works better. I just like the thought of the Support character going off to do their own thing and realizing what's Truth isn't always true and what's Evil isn't always wrong. How many good intentions will Katrina act on before her road is set. Where does that road even lead anyways? Not back to the Hero. That's for sure. But maybe not quite Hell/The Underworld either.

Well shit, guess I may need to rewrite what I was cooking up so I dont have a character that takes away the uniqueness of yours.

I was straight up going to make a holy knight that had come to despise the church for reasons I was just fleshing out in my head while at work.

I'm fine changing it though.

I don't really see the issue. In fact, it'd be a pretty refreshing dynamic to have a few characters who had their own reasons to not be EEEVIIIIIL, who'd be opposed to Mister Slasher and Ms. Pick-To-The-Bone. Plus if he had the status to be a true "holy knight", it'd be a different enough concept from an aspirant (as described) to being a hero; They'd have a lot of practical experience with how the inner workings of the Ecclesiarchy go down, for one.

I think it's great! They can compare notes! Commiserate together! Kill child abusers! Plot the church's downfall! Maybe not that last one. But the others maybe! I'm sure we can come up with ways for both to be unique. Or maybe! Maybe! It's just idea. Maybe Katrina kills a priest your knight was suppose to be protecting for some justified reason. And she proves it after the fact and your knight is "what about justice" or something and Katrina is all "the church defines justice donyounrwally think they would kill one of their own priests" or something. And your knight is all "the church is corrupt! I must fix this" and tags along with Katrina like some lost puppy and she's trying to get rid of them, but they just won't go! And it's super annoying. So, your knight is a brand new baby when it comes to what is Good and Evil. And Katrina's still not sure but she's a few years into it at this point.

I'm not sure. Like I said. Just an idea.

While I do like that idea-- I think I've already sold myself on the idea that I came up with while working. In short, the idea is a man that dedicated his entire existence to the faith and its goals-- only for his ideals and beliefs to be brutally shattered in bloody fashion after one particular day.

And of course it involves a hero.

But yeah, if its decided I've stuffed too many razorblades in the first draft's pillowcase I'd be down for your idea.

Also, now that it's pretty clear that this is gonna get off the ground (a serious "if" when I was first writing this out, I won't lie), I don't wanna do a "hard" character cap. I've GMed a few large group RPs before, and I can handle quite the number of players. But first, I wanna see everyone get in their concepts and ideas down in the thread before I go on about group size.

That said, if everyone gets in their ideas down here first, I can start getting a better hold on how quite to go about managing it all.

Whatever you like. It was just an idea. I look forward to seeing what you come up with.

I have a modified character sheet ready for evaluation. Would you like me to post it here or wait until you have the OoC up?

Go ahead and post it. Like I said, when things get more concrete with an OOC, edits and adjustments can be made as the need arises.

Here she is. I did copy and paste a lot from the old one. Let me know what you think. I am flexible to make changes.

I'd add in a few bits as to how exactly she managed to gather Lord Ahrimen's attention. I think it's a fairly important detail that isn't quite covered as it stands, but other than that, it seems alright from where i'm sitting. If anything, she's a bit subdued compared to some of the other character ideas on offer so far, but I don't necessarily think it's a bad thing, mind you. It does just mean that there is a difference in abilities between her and the others, but if that's what you want, then i'll be fine with it.

I might add in some bits about having to under go enchantments to enhance her physical strength/speed/reflexes so she can fight demons on a more even playing field, but I don't really want her to be super human. I mean I rather she not be severely out of her league, but I want her to struggle some what. If that makes sense.

Also I'm trying to think of things that would draw Lord Ahrimen's attention, but am drawing a huge blank. Would you mind sharing some examples? Please and thank you!

Finally, thank you for your patience. I know I've been posting a lot and probably taking up a lot of your time. It's just I only get the weekends to really focus on role-playing and this concept is super interesting to me. I read the into post and just ... fell in love. I want to get Katrina all work up and ironed out this weekend, so I'm not scrambling when the due date for applications come around. So, thank you!

Just off the top of my head, I would think that something that might catch his immediate attention - at minimum - might be that one of the initiates of the Knights of Valance now both has a Demonic familiar whispering in their ear, and now also has begun doubting the order she practically grew up in. Now, that alone I don't think would earn much from him - his attention, definitely, but I don't think he'd scoop her up just for having a few doubts either - but if, say, Katrina begun seriously deviating from the Knights in open defiance, then he would definitely take a keener interest.

Going off of that, i'd think that her coming into direct conflict with the Knights of Valance would be sort of inevitable: I don't think that it's something that they would take lightly to her simply up and leaving due to having sudden doubts. But if she kept to her guts and openly defied their pleas - or threats - to return to them, then that might prompt the attention of Ahriman more directly.

That's just an example I thought up, but something similar to that sort of premise might work out.

no idea if i will be joining this, but I do have some meme level advice:

The hero cant You Can't Thwart Stage One (tv tropes warning) of a villains plan because otherwise thee will be no plot. This, you must ensure that you are always doing Stage One at all times. Never try to finish a plan, because that's when the hero wins, generally at the last second and instead always be making new plans forever.

Now when it would come to the Knights of Valance, that would be the same group my holy knight would be from-- yeah? Or are there other sects I can have him be from?

Further-- how high up would Full-On Holy Knights be? Would they have things like the well known dnd-type 'lay on hands' healing and 'smite' and the like? How much of the non-heroic Clergy and holy warriors actually have magical abilities?

I have added the following lines to the sheet. I didn't think I needed to repost the whole thing.

I did not mention that this would attract Lord Ahriman's attention as Katrina wouldn't know that. I hope it works.

Up to you on whether or not they're from the Knights of Valance. If they're from the same Order (which is its own structural can of worms to get into), then the two would be at least related. I'd flesh that out more with @LadyAnnaLee if you two want to write something together on that.

Now, in terms of "holiness factor", there's two ways to answer this.

From the perspective of fantasy anime knights, I would say that having magical training as part of their core curriculum, much like how litanies are the core of most clergymen as just part of their initiation. Their magical prowess would likewise be rather limited, but it's still prowess, nonetheless.

From the perspective of any historical analysis about knights, templars, and crusades, most of the members would be glory-chasing frauds who were just looking for an easy excuse to go pillage some holy relics and maybe burn down a couple of villages.

Which perspective you want to take for your character's order? Up to you.

I just realized the knights of Valance are something Anna made for her backstory and not something you presented Yam.
