Hey magpies! Or should I say meteorites? 5 years have passed since I’ve seen all of your wonderful faces. I’m sure most of you will delete this email after reading the first sentence, but for those of you who have stayed, I’d like to propose a reunion. Our quaint little town is knocking down the high school we called home all those years ago, and what better way to close out that chapter in our lives than a meetup with yours truly. Please RSVP by google form, it’ll be BYOB unless we hit P.J’s. Make sure to bring a smile that shines brighter than a meteor!

A group of high school alumni gather for their five year reunion in the modest town of Delton, Maine, blissfully unaware of just how significant the proceeding events will be. Sure, ten years are where the party’s at, but a low-key night of drinking and light conversation to prove you haven’t hit the wall yet isn’t something to be shrugged at. For those who’ve flown the nest, a brief period away in their hometown to reminisce and reflect surely could be an experience.

There’s certainly enough to talk about, even exceeding Delton standards. In 2019, almost two years after the Class of 2017 graduated, a meteorite hit the likeness of Ritman High’s magpie mascot square in the face. It wasn’t world-ending, but the impact necessitated outside help to repair the damage dealt and remove the foreign object. Enter Capital Construction, a relatively fresh-faced construction company making a name across the United States, and a lucrative expansion deal that allowed them to secure their first office in Maine.

In the years since, the company continued to grow, and with a deal between the district school board and Capital Construction, the 14 acres on which Ritman High has proudly stood are being razed to the ground for the company to build their main base of operations in Maine. A reconstructed Ritman is to be located between Delton Middle School and the community library; with improved sports facilities and a tech lab. The funding and once-more renewed attention on Delton from the project are going directly back into the town's school infrastructure, furthering the district's higher-than-state-average quality.

While Capital Construction didn't become the fastest growing American construction company without accepting whatever attention they could get, the sudden interest of their representatives in Delton brought with them the lingering conspiracy that has been attached to the company since their conception in 2012. Their swift rise to the top of the rankings and frequent involvement in government projects have led to many theories—from absurdist claims of Satanism and child sacrifice to somewhat grounded, albeit paranoid, connections between CEO John Yates and top brass of the US Army. The choice to make their main base Delton of all towns, meteorite or not, has also raised concerns, especially in the place of a beloved school that has quite literally stood the test of time.

Catalysed by an impromptu get-together, all of this is going to come to a head in bigger ways than anyone could imagine.

Oblivion is a linear, character-driven roleplay that centers on a group of 22-to-23-year-olds that develop superpowers after a freak event during a high school reunion, which naturally finds them deep in the middle of a conspiracy as they try and grapple with their new abilities. While the structure can be as loose or as strict as the group wants, plot points will progress through sub-acts that make up a larger main act. Character choices will affect the world and other characters moving forward, and while death is a minute possibility it is a possibility. I intend to run this for the long haul, especially depending on how far from the main story thread things stray, so devoted and dedicated players who aren't afraid of making world-altering choices are key.

Upfront, the progression of this roleplay is going to require a lot of OOC communication, which will be done on the Discord. Previous iterations of this roleplay operated under a need-to-know basis in order to not spoil story beats, which I will be changing this time around—I feel awareness of what a specific moment is trying to achieve will encourage more in-depth character work and a more exciting plot overall. This game has been a long-running passion project of mine, hence the number of iterations. If you don’t feel you can be active enough to support such a collaborative piece of work then I suggest discussing this with me beforehand to see where we’re at. I’m a full-time uni student so don’t feel discouraged!-----
Applying for this roleplay comes in two stages—first, fill out the provided sheet and post it in the OOC thread for the GMs to look at. Once you’ve done that, feel free to come and mingle in the aforementioned Discord with other applicants, and maybe bounce ideas off one another. The cut-off point for applications will be in a week, when Salsa Verde and I ask that people stop editing sheets and we will discuss who gets accepted. The final list will come in an announcement post in the OOC, at which point things move back to Discord for the ‘talking’ stage. Here we’ll discuss character relations, significant events in the group's history and prepare to start the IC. To those that don’t get accepted—there will be a grace period when the IC starts, during which if a player has to drop out of any reason, we’ll bring somebody else in.

I want the unfolding of this roleplay’s plot to be structured like that of a TV show—seasons comprised of eight to ten episodes, season-spanning arcs and episode-contained sub-plots, with every couple posts being scenes that add up to make the episodes. (Background-wise, you can consider Oblivion the series I’ve been tweaking for years to try and get it picked up.) There are specific story beats I have mapped out already, but the overall version of the plot is ever-evolving and will absolutely change depending on player input and certain elements that will spawn naturally from writers’ chemistry and discussion behind-the-scenes. Think of it as every player being executive producers of the ‘show’, and the GMs being showrunners. Don’t feel like you have to ‘get it’ right away—I will present the content how I want it to be presented, and you can pick it up along the way. Players have the creativity and freedom to control their character’s soundtrack, development, sub-plots and side characters.

In terms of posting schedule, I want to leave things flexible, but would prefer weekly posts. If two weeks pass since your last post, I’ll be getting in touch to see where we’re at and if we can meet in the middle someplace; write around your character for a bit until things are more stable. As far as pace goes, specifically the pace of the story, there’ll be a period of testing things out once the IC starts. The goal is to get enough information about players’ chemistry and investment, as well as generally how long before the energy of a specific scene starts to fade, to be able to say ‘okay, after every 3 pages of posts we move onto the next act’.

A bright little town, built between a lush green forest and Maquoit Bay. Maine's I-295 and Coastal Route 1 run directly through it, connecting with State Routes 125 and 136, making it easily accessible—and with a spiderweb of residential escape routes, Delton residents can easily drive in and out of town without having to deal with the traffic. Being such a small town—at a population of just 1,325—local businesses are usually passed from generation to generation, though the town is more than open to new businesses and near-famous in parts of Maine for its outlet stores. There are a variety of places to spend your money—Delton has bars, restaurants, inns and a shopping plaza, where the majority of the big name outlets reside. Such a thriving retail environment means that places in Delton are constantly hiring, especially in the service industry. If your career aspirations happen to be grander than being a clerk at Old Navy for the rest of your life, Delton is only a 20-minute drive away from from Portland—and 2 hours from Boston, if you're ambitious.-----
Gooo Magpies! Gooo Meteorites! Founded in 1917, Ritman High is one of the top 50 highest performing schools in the state of Maine and has facilities for performing arts and sports, namely soccer and basketball. The soccer and basketball teams regularly participate in Class B state competition, tasting gold on numerous occasions. Ritman’s average graduation rate is 92% and highest enrollment 667, though the average enrollment is closer to 620. For seniors, the campus is open at lunchtime, meaning there is a congregation of students on Main Street at midday due to the school’s close proximity. Like the rest of the public schools in Delton, Ritman is administered by an independent regional government, separate from the town government.

Owned by Donovan Wilkerson, Delton Station Bistro (or just ‘the Bistro’, as residents call it) has been serving tourists and locals alike for over 3 decades. Housed inside an empty colonial mansion, it has become a beloved staple of the town, going through many refurbishings from the original interior. Presently, it has more of a modern bougie look. The menu at the Bistro is eclectic, featuring a mix of traditional American dishes and international cuisine. Some of the most popular items include locally-sourced lobster bisque, chicken piccata, and mouth-watering lamb kebabs. They also have a wide selection of wine and craft beers to pair with your meal, soft lighting, cozy booths and local artwork adorning the walls.

P. Johnson’s—often shortened to just P.J’s—is Delton’s very own queer micro-brewery and brewpub. While the LGBT population is small in the already-small community, P.J’s has been a major queer space in Delton since the early 2000s. Non-queer patrons are also happily served, of course, and P.J’s handpicked selection of classic draught and craft ale is welcome refreshment to anybody. They regularly donate to youth charities, stage live music in the garden and do regular work and events in the community, and most of the youth population have helped out with at least one P.J’s function.

A thirteen minute walk outside of the main town area, Majestic has been a hotspot for teens to get away from it all and smoke or drink in private. The area is also favored by those with a skateboard or scooter, as the other teen hotspot is a grass bank next to the cemetery. The plaza is where a majority of the outlet stores are located, though there are a few independent businesses and food chains like Subway, free of Delton’s strict building code. Majestic also contains the only cinema for about 10 miles, which is thankfully cheap and decent for the price.

There is one word that can describe Carol Jane Markowitz’s time at Ritman High: adequate.

In elementary school, CJ had been an academic standout. A Student. Spelling Bee champion. Accolades for her time in elementary-level choir and band classes. By high school, that was all gone. Due to a myriad of home life issues over the years the Markowitz girl had transformed into a middling C Student who had no drive or interest to do anything about it—and fuck you if you tried to motivate her to change that.

Unsurprisingly, CJ’s ‘clique’ was that of the outsider, the misfits, the people who didn’t fit in with anybody else. By all appearances, CJ found herself content being among those who didn’t exactly fit in with those who were academically excellent or popular by way of other means; people who were easy targets for her mean-spirited jokes and taunts, people who were easy vehicles for her angst to latch onto and antagonize. If they choose to act tough, well, CJ was never afraid of a fight. Between this kind of devil-may-care attitude and her own irreverent disregard for anything it led to more than a few visits in detention. In fact, it almost became a second home for her. 

Somehow CJ’s disregard for authority, society, and people in general didn’t work entirely as a repellent for people being interested in her. But being a magnet for trouble also often meant that other troubled teens would be drawn in. Whether it was at school or roaming around Delton looking for something to do, it did always seem that CJ was somewhere to be found, trying to actively avoid dealing with the world around her. Sometimes there was someone else who was dealing with the same despondent angst by her side. CJ didn’t realize it at the time, but it made her feel a little less broken–a little bit closer to being not content, but happy. But much like high school… such things are fleeting and temporary.

Granted, her high school life was far more positive than her home life. 

Whenever things started trending in the positive direction, the world was keen to remind CJ that she was less than nothing in the eyes of god. Throughout her teen years she had reckoned with abuse and neglect with her essentially having to figure things out by herself without any substantial support from her mother, Samantha. If it wasn’t her mother’s awful drug addiction and terrible public image, it was the slew of physically and emotionally abusive men she found herself living with–and more often than not such abuse was vicariously directed at CJ herself.

Due to this, one could say that CJ formed a personality based on finding an outlet for all of her negative emotions. The rage, the fear, the shame–all aspects of her wanting to transfer all of the discontent she felt upon not only the people around her but also the world that allowed it to happen. Through this CJ aspired to find any sort of power she could hold onto, for however long it was allowed to be in her hands. Without academic excellence (or the drive to put effort in like she had in grade school) all she had was getting reactions from people. Eventually she grew to like it, because at the very least, the reaction was something she could control. The world had tried to beat her down since her dad loaded a bullet into his throat when she was eleven-years-old. It wouldn’t win. She wouldn’t let it.

By the time she’d graduate and aspire to leave Delton, she had forged a reputation for being a “problem”. Rude, sarcastic, overly nihilistic and cynical, irreverent, bold, headstrong, assertive. One of the kids that’d sit in the corner of the cafeteria, branded as a bitch or worse. A constant fixture in school detention. She’d never open up or admit she was too weak to protect herself at home–that she’d only go home when she had to. That fear of weakness, or being perceived as such, would drive her to be immensely private. She hated her mom for a lot of asinine, angsty teenaged reasons, but she’d never out her. At the end of the day, mom was still mom. She stuck with her, so she deserved to retain her dignity as far as CJ was concerned.

This made meaningful relationships of any kind with CJ difficult for a garden variety of people. It has not improved in the last five years by much and in some regards isolating herself from people she once cared about might have done more damage than anything else. As the guitarist and vocalist for a Portland-based Post-Hardcore group she finally has the agency she wants, but something inside her feels empty, craving for more. She hasn’t found a way to satisfy it.

CJ possesses the power of electrokinesis—the ability to manipulate electricity with her mind. Largely due to an ionized physiology that has her serve as equal parts battery and amplifier. So, in reality CJ doesn’t exactly create electricity herself but more that she manipulates the electrical currents that are drawn to her. On the conscious level, CJ can expedite this process or ward it off.

Drawing in a large amount of electrical energy (or warding it off) is when things start to get trickier. Not only does it take an immense level of focus and concentration, she had to be very careful not to become downright overloaded. However, the benefits if done correctly, can lead to more complex applications of electricity including electro-magnetism. But as with these sorts of things, they come with control, practice, and precision. Overloading her body–and by extension her brain–things can lead to severe, violent blackouts. How much can her ionized body take before she’s beyond her limit? An overloaded battery can explode. There are many things to be wary about.

This is probably the most realized version of CJ I’ve come up with yet. How far does someone’s worst judgment and instincts take them when confronting their past? That’s one of the questions I’ve asked myself here in the creation of the concept. I’d like to really dig into how misanthropic nihilism affects someone and show how they can change through the more appropriate conditions. The “why is she like this” question is often the easiest to answer. The “how can she get better” one is harder and one I’m curious if it's even achievable. Returning to her hometown was never something she intended to do, but here she is, doing so. Confronting the bad decisions she’s made there and the ones she’s made since she’s left. I’d like to see how her past relations engage with her inner being–do they anchor her to the open water, or are they life preserver that helps her finally move forward? I’m curious to find out.

In terms of her powers, that’s a bit more cut-and-dry, I think. Through time she will gain more control of herself and her condition, but how far does control of that power lead to darker lanes? CJ is already a fucked up, misanthropic nihlist who justifies her misery toward others because she had to endure worse. What happens when you give someone with no hope great power and endanger her ability to express herself in healthy ways? I can’t imagine it's good. I think what happens to CJ will largely depend on the cast she will have to learn to trust. They have similar afflictions and if they can depend on each other it might help reach a more palatable, hopeful ending. 

Anything can happen. It should be interesting. All that said, I do want CJ to get “better”, but often getting better does require her to realize her mistakes and have some kind of support network that she trusts enough to unveil some of her demons. Because, well, frankly? It’s sink or swim.

In elementary school, CJ had been an academic standout. A Student. Spelling Bee champion. Accolades for her time in elementary-level choir and band classes. By high school, that was all gone. Due to a myriad of home life issues over the years the Markowitz girl had transformed into a middling C Student who had no drive or interest to do anything about it—and fuck you if you tried to motivate her to change that. Unsurprisingly, CJ’s ‘clique’ was that of the outsider, the misfits, the people who didn’t fit in with anybody else. By all appearances, CJ found herself content being among those who didn’t exactly fit in with those who were academically excellent or popular by way of other means; people who were easy targets for her mean-spirited jokes and taunts, people who were easy vehicles for her angst to latch onto and antagonize. If they choose to act tough, well, CJ was never afraid of a fight. Between this kind of devil-may-care attitude and her own irreverent disregard for anything it led to more than a few visits in detention. In fact, it almost became a second home for her. Somehow CJ’s disregard for authority, society, and people in general didn’t work entirely as a repellent for people being interested in her. But being a magnet for trouble also often meant that other troubled teens would be drawn in. Whether it was at school or roaming around Delton looking for something to do, it did always seem that CJ was somewhere to be found, trying to actively avoid dealing with the world around her. Sometimes there was someone else who was dealing with the same despondent angst by her side. CJ didn’t realize it at the time, but it made her feel a little less broken–a little bit closer to being not content, but happy. But much like high school… such things are fleeting and temporary.} ^---- _{Granted, her high school life was far more positive than her home life. Whenever things started trending in the positive direction, the world was keen to remind CJ that she was less than nothing in the eyes of god. Throughout her teen years she had reckoned with abuse and neglect with her essentially having to figure things out by herself without any substantial support from her mother, Samantha. If it wasn’t her mother’s awful drug addiction and terrible public image, it was the slew of physically and emotionally abusive men she found herself living with–and more often than not such abuse was vicariously directed at CJ herself. Due to this, one could say that CJ formed a personality based on finding an outlet for all of her negative emotions. The rage, the fear, the shame–all aspects of her wanting to transfer all of the discontent she felt upon not only the people around her but also the world that allowed it to happen. Through this CJ aspired to find any sort of power she could hold onto, for however long it was allowed to be in her hands. Without academic excellence (or the drive to put effort in like she had in grade school) all she had was getting reactions from people. Eventually she grew to like it, because at the very least, the reaction was something she could control. Ivory Williams was a name that everyone had on their tongue, mostly because she was the second face of Ritman High, outside of the sports teams honestly. Being the head of student government meant that she did what any good President would do, understand her patrons. She wanted to see the ecosystem of their school thrive, so she made it a point to befriend and honor her friendships with basically every individual and niche group that inhabited the conventicle of Magpies. She was never fake and always found a way in her stacked schedule to help and guide those who needed it while still maintaining a healthy social life with everyone else. She was almost viewed as inhuman, and while she didn’t sit at the top of the academic ladder, she was still in the top 5. You can’t do it all without giving something in exchange, and that was enough for Ivory

Ivory has always been altruistic and humanitarian at heart from the onset of her consciousness. And while the world is wicked and tends to beat down on people of the same merit, it had no effect on Ivory. Perhaps from the protection and nourishment that her parents had granted her or just the sheer tenacity of her vibrant personality. She never had issue making friends and naturally attracting those to her like a bear to a fresh hive of honeycomb. Despite her aura of nobility, she does have a rather sharp sense of justice which carried her onto the path of law school. Not in the sense where she adheres to the rules and roles prescribed by old men from the past, but the protection and inalienable rights it allots to citizens and those alike. 

She’s organized, way more organized than one needs to be. She had a planner for her planner. Each time slot for every day of the week meticulously curated so she could make the most of her time without overwhelming herself. Structure was important to her and while she wasn’t too rigid with making addendums, she prefers to stick to the script unless persuaded otherwise. 

Equality is mostly what she prides herself on, whether that be socially or environmentally. Being in the school’s assembly of governance served to make the career of public administration quite enticing. She was always fighting to be the voice for her peers who were or could not be heard. Being born a Black-American woman meant she identified with several minority groups, each with its own avenue of discrimination. Her families’ roots were important to her, which led her to personally subscribe to the fight to end inequality. Ritman high was the first manifestation for this. 

Leaving Ritman in the rearview never really bothered her, she knew she was destined for bigger things, but she did feel as though she could have made deeper connections, attended more games, or even been part of other clubs that weren’t just resume and experience builders. She knew her reputation preceded her and was quite intimidating, but she was always approachable.

Everyone is familiar with how the dinosaurs were wiped out. In case you didn’t know, it was a giant meteor from outer space. Now what they didn’t tell you is that it wasn’t just some ordinary meteor that wiped them out, but something much more powerful. Over the next several millennia the first civilization of men unearthed the remnants of this prolific meteor. What they found inside the meteor was something else something greater, within the meteor were shards of celestial energy that remained alive all these centuries. This abundance of energy stored inside was treated as a gift from the gods and worshiped as so. During ceremonial rituals the most suitable candidate to represent the village would be chosen to consume a small shard of this radiant energy. Once bonded with the host the shard granted powerful magic and a surplus of new knowledge and ideas. Civilizations prospered and thrived under the leadership of these powered individuals, much faster than what normal homo sapiens could achieve in the same timeline. 

However, this amount of power was uncontrollable back in the day and for all their success there was a harvest. Unable to master the power in their vessel the crystal would corrupt and overpower the user, wiping out entire civilizations seemingly overnight, forever branded as ‘lost’.  Many historians theorize that civilizations such as the Maya, Indus, Anasazi, Cahokia etc. were lost, but they were just the dregs of once great civilizations. This didn’t mean the crystal was lost however, instead the crystal would trap the bonded soul inside which was intended for use by the new owner. Thus, in turn creating a link to past crystal owners and serving as an encyclopedia on information such as language, architecture, and innovation. And so, the shard was passed from civilization to civilization across the ages until one day it was marked too powerful for use. Instead of implanting it into a person the elders locked it away, planting the crystal within the front of a book. The pages had no writing or invisible ink, there were no photographs or illustrations, just simply a crystal in the front of an otherwise normal book. 

The powers granted by the shard granted the user a tether to the celestial plane allowing for access to magic. With the shard serving as a connection to past lives, the user can incant and recite the words necessary for these spells. This takes shape into what Ivory calls Constellation Magic which she can then use to mimic spatial anomalies into magical powers. Her powers and past lives also grant her access to preordained abilities learned from past magicians. These include illusion casting (limited) and telekinesis while the rest are still being learned.

For Ivory the reunion would bring her a lot of happiness and a chance to form the bonds of friendship she didn’t have time for while in High School. No background or label given to these people would matter to her. They wouldn’t grow much in the sense of personality, but in the way of learning more empathy for other backgrounds outside her career focus. Despite being the catalyst for their subjugation of the supernatural, Ivory is unaware of the consequences of wielding such power. The book will slowly poison Ivory’s soul and begin to turn her maleficent.

+ In a world ruled by science and logic, magic is only reserved for people who perform party tricks or those desperate enough to busk on the street. Having an otherworldly power and magic that is beyond explanation allows for potent weapons against those in opposition. Magic is rather versatile and can be choreographed with several other spells at once. Not only that but depending on the amount of magic used and incantation length directly affects the strength of the spell being used. It’s almost limitless to say as magic requires constant learning for the exploration of new possibilities. 

Despite being quite powerful so early on with magic and the possibilities being so endless, Ivory is still a newly anointed magician. While she has access to telekinesis, illusion casting, and her own magic, she is restricted to only being able to use one at a time. Ivory is also very weak in hand-to-hand combat and her best defense works from a good distance. Despite having mana flowing throw her veins she can overuse her powers easily, thus forcing her to be smart on use and conservation of magical energy. −

The powers granted by the shard granted the user a tether to the celestial plane allowing for access to magic. With the shard serving as a connection to past lives, the user can incant and recite the words necessary for these spells. This takes shape into what Ivory calls Constellation Magic which she can then use to mimic spatial anomalies into magical powers. Her powers and past lives also grant her access to preordained abilities learned from past magicians. These include illusion casting (limited) and telekinesis while the rest are still being learned.} ^---- _{For Ivory the reunion would bring her a lot of happiness and a chance to form the bonds of friendship she didn’t have time for while in High School. No background or label given to these people would matter to her. They wouldn’t grow much in the sense of personality, but in the way of learning more empathy for other backgrounds outside her career focus. Ivory is also very weak in hand-to-hand combat and her best defense works from a good distance. Unfortunately for Anni, these dreams never worked out in her favor and were often ripped away right before her very eyes. 

Her attempt at joining Ritman's cheerleading squad flopped. She crashed too many parties she was never invited to. Even her very name had been twisted by her fellow classmates into a less-flattering nickname that would make your grandmother faint. No one wanted anything to do with Anni. She was ostracized by her peers; turned into a punching bag for the student body despite all of her attempts to crawl out of the hole she was in. 

It's probably why she found solace in being the school's mascot—the only good thing Anni swears had happened in her time at Ritman High. Tears are easier when no one can see them.

These jobs weren't kind to Anni, in pay but also elsewhere, too. Each passing day Anni felt the soul-crushing effects of life even more than before, becoming moody, distant, and ultimately perhaps one more dumb question from ending it all. Nothing was changing for the better, so why should keep fighting against it?

Then the email came. A cruel joke, certainly. "Wearing a smile"? Bah. She thought about ignoring it, refusing to go. But then Anni had an idea. If she went, then she could at least make everyone feel miserable; to lash back out at them. 

Yeah, that was it. The reunion was going to be a damn good time for Anni, but everyone else was going to have the worst night of their lives—she just needed to figure out how she would fuck shit up.

Anni's power is the concept of mimicry. One might say it is similar to shapeshifting, and in fact it is in the same vein, but ultimately there are a few outliers that differentiate the two concepts. 

Unlike shapeshifting, mimicry only applies to other humans and not animals, plants or other living things. In other words, Anni might be able to transform into the president or some other individual, but she won't be able to replace Mrs. Carlisle's class hamster you accidentally murdered in third grade over spring break. You know who you are, Jason.

Although Anni retains her memory when using her powers, she loses everything else, like her body, which adjusts to the parameters of her target's. Weight, height, even things such as amputated limbs or bad knees copies over, so she essentially feels the brunt of everything despite technically being still healthy and young. In other words, it can quickly become tiring for Anni as she has to adjust to the physical changes of whoever she has chosen to mimic at the time.

Personally, I want to write Anni coming to terms with her past. Yeah, she's had a shitty life so far, but I want her to realize that it isn't all bad and stop being an moody asshole over it. Of course, this all comes down to other player involvement, given that her sheet entirely relies on the input of others. Essentially, I'm hoping to potentially use this as interaction bait and a way to further develop not just my character but other player characters as well, provided they're willing.

As for her power, I imagine that Anni will have issue with it. Technically being in another body is a freaky experience, obviously. It's like waking up with someone else's face as yours, probably with a craving of tacos or something to boot. She'll need quite some time to get used to her powers, especially the draining effects of having her body essentially warped into someone else each time she uses it.

Oh man, the characters are great so far from everyone. I thoroughly enjoyed going through the sheets, and the music. I freshened up my character from the previous iteration, making a few adjustments and rewriting some things. I realize I jumped ship last time, but the lack of posting everywhere (in my own game as well) really got to me. But, I'll give this my all, regardless, again, if we get around to it. I'm okay with being cut, though, to make room for someone else if you get a lot of players.

Natalie was as plastic as they come. The only things that mattered were obsession with appearance, fashion, social status, and trends. Academics and doing good with grades were somewhat outlandish concepts to Natalie, even if she did understand most of what was being taught. She was a core member of the so called Mean Girls or Plastics at Ritman High. Natalie did not care for the titles back then, but she has deeply reflected on how bizarre her behavior was. 

While the influence of the Plastics over some matters at the school and Delton at large was noticable, they were usually not overtly evil or nasty towards other students and teachers. Even if some kind of bullying did occur, it was mostly online and towards other girls that had somehow offended the group. The issue was the low threshold for the word 'offended'. Someone could wear the wrong things to school or simply have a pathetic follower count on Instagram to qualify as causing offense. That is where the Plastics set the bar.

On a positive note, if there could have been such a thing, Natalie was not the worst of the bunch. There were four other girls in this circle of devils that certainly cursed their own names a lot more with their vile actions. Some of them were quite outspoken and loud. Natalie, on the other hand, was more of the passive aggressive type that simply stared at people or made snarky remarks. However, this behavior only happened when Natalie was around the other Plastics. When she was alone, Natalie conversed with other students in her classes and randoms in the corridors in a completely normal and sometimes even friendly manner. At these moments, she was a bit of a 'bridge' between the sociopathic Plastics and the regular crowd, even the rejects at times. 

But, at the end of the day, Natalie was not innocent. Her primary territory of nastiness was online, specifically Instagram. She was known to shit on people that did not deserve to exist on social media. It was as if she was possessed by a demon whenever her phone mesmerized Natalie with its compelling light.

Natalie's behavior somewhat faded after graduating from Ritman. She had a special someone to thank for that, but it was a closely guarded private matter that Natalie did not speak of. However, her attitude and 'the way that she is' has always been there and will remain to some degree. Luckily, there is no contact with the other girls from the Plastics anymore, so there is nothing that can fuel the fire, as it were.

Shortly after Ritman, Natalie put all of her effort and time into her social media presence. She even started to Stream herself on an online platform, playing some video games and just chatting with her viewers. Eventually, the follower count skyrocketed, the sponsorships rolled in, and one complicated social environment was traded for another. The 'influencer' world was not unlike what Natalie had already experienced back at Ritman. It was just larger in scale, not to mention the fashion and modeling world that came creeping ever so closer. Out of the two things, Instagram and Streaming, Natalie certainly preferred the latter and interacting with the viewers.

Natalie would not consider herself spiteful, just uninterested. The social media thing has taken a toll on her, mentally and physically. The realization that she engages with a hostile industry that feels no remorse when taking advantage of people or abusing them has surely made Natalie more humble. However, and on a positive note, the community surrounding her Streaming has definitely brought Natalie down to Earth quite a bit. It has been the only redeemable thing about be a 'public' figure. She has secretly wished for a change in her environment and social circle, though. The people that she naturally attracts are often unhealthy company. They are obsessive-compulsive narcissists that take joy in character assassinations and degenerate indulgences. But, the influencer business is like any other addiction. It is difficult to get out of it even if you want to. Natalie needs an excuse, any kind of excuse, to close it all down or at least reduce the amount of clout chasing she does herself and is subjected to.

Time after Ritman made Natalie more verbal and concerned with 'what is right' and how things 'should be'. She is quite well-spoken, but there is still a clear hint of the old resting bitch-face thing where she does not say anything. Her lack of verbal filter online has spilled into the real world. She can, at times, when pressured, say things that can leave a bad taste in people's mouths. It is not always intentional, though. The real and online worlds sort of bleed together, as if Natalie was constantly on a bad trip from shitty drugs. There is a bit of derealization and depersonalization going on with her, as a result of constant dopamine drowning and the presence of people that are horrific caricatures of themselves.

Natalie can affect physical and mental health. Health in this case is the state of physical and mental well-being of a person or animal that is clearly alive. She can increase or decrease the healing process to the point of rapid regeneration or indefinitely prevent recovery at all. At some stage, Natalie is able to sense or detect injuries and diseases in an entity before it is apparent or felt. Wounds and diseases that Natalie has healed or prevented are also subject to be re-inflicted by her hand. However, she cannot cause new wounds or diseases with this ability.

Moderate to severe pain can be alleviated by physical contact with Natalie. The more contact, the less pain someone will feel. However, the relief will subside the same instant as the contact is broken. This can affect certain mental and emotional duress. However, the effectiveness might depend on who the person at risk is. Physical contact is also necessary when Natalie has to heal a wound. Depending on circumstance and severity, the healing process itself might be extremely painful, as the body is not used to rapid cellular regrowth and tissue regeneration. 

As for Natalie herself, the ability does not work automatically. She must go through the same process of focus as with healing a third party. However, the process will seem to be automatic in regard to poisons, toxins, viruses, parasites, and other such things. That is, Natalie cannot get infected or sick by external influence. Further, the healing process could also remove minor imperfections of the skin, such as scars, acne, rashes, burning, and other inflammations or harm caused by elements.

Natalie's story has a classic redemption arc. The idea is for her state of being to go from Villain to Tragic Hero to Savior. Her power is meant to push her into the last stage of it, as opposed to realizing it herself. This will be her internal struggle, so to speak, and I mean to show this through written character thoughts.

I want to move Natalie towards a certain trope that I do not know the name of. It is when someone on the 'bad side' flips and joins the 'good side', and then becomes almost like a weapon for the good side. In this case, it would be Natalie's social history and experience with people like herself and how to deal with them. This does not have to be realized on an impactful scale, but if a tiny moment comes along, then that is enough for this to be a thing.

The healing power will force out the last bits of the old Natalie that still lingers. That was the original intention with this kind of benevolent light being forced upon this sinister character. Natalie will have to come to terms with what her powers entails, and that the way she is will only hold her back.

This does not have to be realized on an impactful scale, but if a tiny moment comes along, then that is enough for this to be a thing. Many students have a hard time during high school, Michael was no exception.

There were various factors involved in making Michael’s high school experience a miserable and lonely one. Having been raised by his elderly grandparents, money was always tight so almost everything he owned was old and second hand, coupled with the fact that puberty decided to mess with him, he struck a decidedly unremarkable figure. Most students never even acknowledged his existence beyond a judgmental first glance, while others saw his awkward appearance and decided that he was easy prey (you accidentally spill your lunch on the captain of the basketball team one time, and he’ll never let you forget it.).

This led to Mikey having an extremely low self-esteem and he started to keep to himself as much as possible. He didn’t take part in any clubs, he didn’t have any real friends, frankly he was invisible even to the outcasts. The only outstanding thing about his high school life were his grades, which he kept reasonably high, but the only attention that got him was some pocket change he got by charging people for doing their homework for them.  The rest of his free time was spent helping around the house, studying and working part-time at the town-library.

By the time graduation rolled around, Mikey’s high school life had been so unremarkable, the teachers almost skipped over his name during the ceremony. It would be a surprise if any students from Ritman High would even remember that they went to school with one Michael James, at most they might remember how convenient the Homework-kid was when they didn’t want to suffer through a tough chemistry project.

In the summer between graduation and starting college he finally grew out of his awkward phase, and with his grandmother bullying him into updating his wardrobe into something that actually resembles style his appearance went from unremarkable to a solid seven.

He might have still followed old habits of staying out of the way and keeping to himself, but between sharing a dorm and people actually sparing him a second glance, for the first time in his life he wasn’t completely invisible. Slowly, but surely, this led to him stepping out of his comfort zone, starting by accepting the occasional invitation to hang out, to joining different clubs, to actually making friends. Just like that, he wasn’t the isolated Homework-kid anymore, but just another regular guy getting dragged into new experiences.

He experienced a lot of new things during college; drinking his first beer, learning how to drive a motorcycle, got dragged to several different classes, though he didn’t end up sticking with any of them for long. The day that he got his degree, he even got a full back tattoo of a pair of angel wings as a symbol of his growth as a person. A way for him to show everyone that he spread his wings and as a reminder to himself to keep flying forward.

Mikey would be lying if he said he didn’t have any regrets. There was a lot of things that he missed out on, opportunities he didn’t take and things that he didn’t say that he wishes he could change. But focussing on the past wont change it. As of right now, Michael James is more confident in himself than ever before. He now grabs onto every chance, every opportunity with both hands, not willing to miss out on anything else ever again.

College has also turned him into a little bit of an adrenaline junkie, the rush he feels when riding his motorcycle or trying something new is indescribable. That is part of the reason that once he graduated, he decided to work from home by doing the bookkeeping for several businesses digitally, that way his schedule is more open, giving him ample time for mini-adventures as well as regularly visiting his grandparents in their new Florida home.

There are times when Michael is absolutely terrified of losing all of his progress, of things going back to how they were in high school, but the more time passes the less frequent they happen. He's in a really good place right now, so he's really looking forward to the reunion...maybe see if he's still the forgetable Homework-kid...

Michael’s previous back-tattoo have become a pair of large black wings that has sprouted from his back. These wings are a new permanent body part that can’t be dismissed at will. Psychologically, this has taken a toll on him. After years of being an awkward, invisible outcast, he was finally starting to be comfortable with himself, take risks and become someone that he can actually be proud of, when the tattoo that he got as a symbol of him finally spreading his wings became much more literal than he what he had in mind. 

Not only that, but their appearance has also affected his balance, pushing him back into his awkward clumsy phase until he gets used to them. The wings are also very difficult to hide. Mikey has been forced to add several large trench-coats to his wardrobe, on top of making various alterations to any clothes that he wants to wear.

These wings are made up of dozens of feathers, the longest reaching 120cm with the smallest barely being 2cm long. Each individual feather can be detached and manipulated telepathically to do various jobs. As long as they stay intact, the feathers can also be reattached. Mikey has a connection with his feathers and can use them as sensors that can feel the location of people and objects in their presence by feeling the vibrations in the air around them. 

The feathers all vary in strength – the smallest able to move around ten pounds – as well as sharpness. The feathers can be both stiff and flexible depending on what Michael needs, making it possible for them to be used as weapons. The longest feathers are able to make very effective blades. Most importantly, when fully-feathered the wings allow Mike the ability to fly at extraordinary speeds and at great heights. At his best he can reach up to 390km/h and a height of 37000 feet.

In college he started to find himself, to be more comfortable with himself as a person. He stepped out of his comfort zone, started taking risks and stopped being afraid of being himself. The appearance of the wings, changed that. Once again he was an outsider, a freak, someone who just doesn’t fit in. I would like to explore how he accepts himself, how he learns to love the newfound freedom that his wings give him, in spite of the restrictions that they bring.

Power-wise, he’d start out a little clumsy, struggling to move and manipulate his feathers properly. He’d also be knocking into things a lot, unused to the extra weight that he now has to carry around. Like any muscle, I see his wings getting stronger the more they are used and through practice and experience, I’d like for him to eventually reach the level of skills mentioned in Powers. Kinda like Hawks from MHA, I just think he's neat sssshh…

Many students have a hard time during high school, Michael was no exception.

There were various factors involved in making Michael’s high school experience a miserable and lonely one. Having been raised by his elderly grandparents, money was always tight so almost everything he owned was old and second hand, coupled with the fact that puberty decided to mess with him, he struck a decidedly unremarkable figure. Most students never even acknowledged his existence beyond a judgmental first glance, while others saw his awkward appearance and decided that he was easy prey (you accidentally spill your lunch on the captain of the basketball team one time, and he’ll never let you forget it.).

This led to Mikey having an extremely low self-esteem and he started to keep to himself as much as possible. He didn’t take part in any clubs, he didn’t have any real friends, frankly he was invisible even to the outcasts. The only outstanding thing about his high school life were his grades, which he kept reasonably high, but the only attention that got him was some pocket change he got by charging people for doing their homework for them.  The rest of his free time was spent helping around the house, studying and working part-time at the town-library.

By the time graduation rolled around, Mikey’s high school life had been so unremarkable, the teachers almost skipped over his name during the ceremony. It would be a surprise if any students from Ritman High would even remember that they went to school with one Michael James, at most they might remember how convenient the Homework-kid was when they didn’t want to suffer through a tough chemistry project.

If you were to look at Michael now, compared to his high school self, you would be hard pressed to recognize him as the same person. In the summer between graduation and starting college he finally grew out of his awkward phase, and with his grandmother bullying him into updating his wardrobe into something that actually resembles style his appearance went from unremarkable to a solid seven. 

That was the catalyst. He might have still followed old habits of staying out of the way and keeping to himself, but between sharing a dorm and people actually sparing him a second glance, for the first time in his life he wasn’t completely invisible. Slowly, but surely, this led to him stepping out of his comfort zone, starting by accepting the occasional invitation to hang out, to joining different clubs, to actually making friends. Just like that, he wasn’t the isolated Homework-kid anymore, but just another regular guy getting dragged into new experiences.

He experienced a lot of new things during college; drinking his first beer, learning how to drive a motorcycle, got dragged to several different classes, though he didn’t end up sticking with any of them for long. The day that he got his degree, he even got a full back tattoo of a pair of angel wings as a symbol of his growth as a person. A way for him to show everyone that he spread his wings and as a reminder to himself to keep flying forward.

Mikey would be lying if he said he didn’t have any regrets. There was a lot of things that he missed out on, opportunities he didn’t take and things that he didn’t say that he wishes he could change. But focussing on the past wont change it. As of right now, Michael James is more confident in himself than ever before. He’s no longer scared to be seen and will approach others with his head held high when the situation calls for it. He now grabs onto every chance, every opportunity with both hands, not willing to miss out on anything else ever again.

College has also turned him into a little bit of an adrenaline junkie, the rush he feels when riding his motorcycle or trying something new is indescribable. That is part of the reason that once he graduated, he decided to work from home by doing the bookkeeping for several businesses digitally, that way his schedule is more open, giving him ample time for mini-adventures as well as regularly visiting his grandparents in their new Florida home.

There are times when Michael is absolutely terrified of losing all of his progress, of things going back to how they were in high school, but the more time passes the less frequent they happen.

Michael’s previous back-tattoo have become a pair of large black wings that has sprouted from his back. These wings are a new permanent body part that can’t be dismissed at will. Psychologically, this has taken a toll on him. After years of being an awkward, invisible outcast, he was finally starting to be comfortable with himself, take risks and become someone that he can actually be proud of, when the tattoo that he got as a symbol of him finally spreading his wings became much more literal than he what he had in mind. 

Not only that, but their appearance has also affected his balance, pushing him back into his awkward clumsy phase until he gets used to them. The wings are also very difficult to hide. Mikey has been forced to add several large trench-coats to his wardrobe, on top of making various alterations to any clothes that he wants to wear.

These wings are made up of dozens of feathers, the longest reaching 120cm with the smallest barely being 2cm long. Each individual feather can be detached and manipulated telepathically to do various jobs. As long as they stay intact, the feathers can also be reattached. Mikey has a connection with his feathers and can use them as sensors that can feel the location of people and objects in their presence by feeling the vibrations in the air around them. 

The feathers all vary in strength – the smallest able to move around ten pounds – as well as sharpness. The feathers can be both stiff and flexible depending on what Michael needs, making it possible for them to be used as weapons. The longest feathers are able to make very effective blades. Most importantly, when fully-feathered the wings allow Mike the ability to fly at extraordinary speeds and at great heights. At his best he can reach up to 390km/h and a height of 37000 feet.

After growing literal wings, I see Michael going through a bit of a crises. For a long time he was just some loser who people only noticed when they needed someone to pick on or to do their homework. In college he started to find himself, to be more comfortable with himself as a person. He stepped out of his comfort zone, started taking risks and stopped being afraid of being himself. The appearance of the wings, changed that. Once again he was an outsider, a freak, someone who just doesn’t fit in. I would like to explore how he accepts himself, how he learns to love the newfound freedom that his wings give him, in spite of the restrictions that they bring.

Power-wise, he’d start out a little clumsy, struggling to move and manipulate his feathers properly. He’d also be knocking into things a lot, unused to the extra weight that he now has to carry around. Like any muscle, I see his wings getting stronger the more they are used and through practice and experience, I’d like for him to eventually reach the level of skills mentioned in Powers. Kinda like Hawks from MHA, I just think he's neat sssshh…
