I don't mind that, though that should probably be Arnannel's ancestor? Maybe his father. I don't know if it's specified in the core rulebook, but my interpretation is elves mature the same rate as human, they just live longer, so Arnannel is still young given the timeframe of the war.

The book does say that they live up to 350 years.
I think the having Arnannel’s father be the one to give the Brevil family the book makes sense. ^_^

@Guardian Angel Haruki, one of my class questions is "How did I save your life the first time we met?" I don't think it necessarily has to be on the first meeting, but what danger did Hasdrubal save Pepper from on their way to Alula, and how did that influence her perception of him?

@rush99999 I like this one for Dimple--"What lie have you told me about yourself that I absolutely believe?"

@Randomguy, I don't particularly care for the third Guardian question in the book, but given that Hasdrubal and Arnannel both fought in the Havenite war of conquest, I think an interesting question might be something like this: "We once stood on opposite sides during a battle; what happened there, and which side won?"

Dimple aided Hasdrubal in solving a crime. Dimple helped because the culprit was an enemy of the Road Court, but Hasdrubal assumed he helped for altruistic reasons. Since that meant the Stouttusk felt he owed the Faeborg a favor, Dimple saw no reason to correct Hasdrubal's mistake.

Oooh! I have an idea for that question.

When Pepper first met Hasdrubal, she was cheerful and friendly to him. But the more she tried to speak with him during the journey to Alulua, the more she became hesitant and quieter. She got the sense that he didn't want to guard her, let alone be around her. A part of her even worried that he would just up and ditch her when he gets completely sick of her. This is especially heightened because of her so-called apprenticeship with Archmagus Lapin, and she was starting to believe the Archmagus's disparaging words and insults to her during the first part of the journey.

During the journey, Pepper and Hasdrubel encountered a large, dangerous carnivorous flower known as the Melancholia Flower, that lured prey with a sweet aroma that brought feelings of contentment and induced sleepiness. The flower would devour those who fell asleep in its petals. It was named the Melancholia Flower because those who managed to survive and get away from the flower experienced melancholy as a side effect while the aroma's effects wear off of the prey. Pepper got caught by that aroma, and her curiosity didn't help her.

She had followed the scent to the flower in a trance-like state, and she almost got devoured by the flower. But Hasdrubel was able to counter the flower's abilities, and either got Pepper away from the flower, or he killed it himself. Pepper isn't sure on the details on that matter.

After getting Pepper away from that flower, she did indeed feel the effects of the Melancholia set in. She ended up crying and voicing everything that the Archmagus said to her, and apologized to Hasdrubel. However Hasdrubel answered her, that conversation made her realize that he wasn't going to ditch her at the very least.

Her memories of the conversation and encounter are still somewhat fuzzy, due to the mind-altering effects of the Melancholia Flower's effects.

"Two civilisations with conflicting worldviews clashing. Haven saw itself as the master of its own destiny, that they even killed the deity Shun’Aush the Granite Ophid; they saw themselves to be lords of the natural world and tamers of nature. Such that when the solution to the illness that plagued their people necessitated disturbing the balance of nature, they judged such a thing to be justified. The people of Fanewick--my people especially--saw themselves as part of the giant organism that is the forest, such that if they had to perish for the greater whole of the natural world they live in, then so be it. Who won? Well, Haven, of course. Not only had Haven gained what it was looking for, but it also had a whole slew of new territory after routing the resistance. And I cannot say that the 'wrong' side won, per se. Frankly, waging war for the survival of your people at least felt more real than fighting to the death for some nebulous ideology."

One of the greatest joys for a GM is going to sleep and then waking up to find that your players have been happily fleshing out their characters together. That was a nice thing to wake up to, thank you guys ^^

Also thank you for giving me a bunch of cool world-building stuff to work with. I definitely will only use these tools for good and not for evil.

Already PMed Vertigo to make sure they know the OOC is up. Haven't heard back, but it has only been couple of days since the OOC has up.

Have you heard anything back from them yet? It's been seven days since they last posted something publicly.

I did hear from them yesterday, they haven't been around for the last few days because it was difficult for them to get onto the guild, but they said they would start work on their CS today.

I must admit I'm somewhat confused about why all the place names on the map are in a box in the top left corner, as opposed to on the spots that bear the corresponding name.

So from what I've gathered, Daggerheart encourages the idea of collective world-building, where I lay down a map and we go round the table marking locations on the map. Those locations would normally be ones we each come up with, but it seems each of the campaign frame maps come with their own list of possible locations. Once everyone's character sheets are done and we've covered connection questions, we can look to adding locations to our map. We can either use the stock ones on the side (or some of them at least) and/or make up our own. I imagine, for example, characters might want to put their home villages/towns or landmarks associated with their backstory... or just something that sounds like a cool place to visit. Plus, the map has just enough detailed that you might see a spot on the map and come up with an idea of what that place may be.

For example, I might mark where the village of Alula is, since that's our starting place, or a sacred area associated with one of the deities. We don't have to fill up the entire map, it's encouraged that we leave blank spaces, but a few starting locations are good.

I do want to give a quick heads up to everyone...

Starting tomorrow, I am most likely not going to be able to post at all for the coming week. If I can post, I will. But right now, I foresee that when I do have internet, I'm only going to be able to lurk, not post.

My posting rate should go back to normal the week after. I apologize for the inconvenience.

@Vertigo
…Oh No He’s Hot!
I think Pepper is going to end up having a crush on Capriccio, if you’re okay with that.

For connections…maybe the both of them met around the end of Pepper’s apprenticeship?

He could have found Pepper crying in a corner, and upon asking her, heard about how Archmagus Lapin and she treated the patient only for the Serpent’s Sickness to get worse. After the both of them spoke with each other, Pepper and Capriccio parted ways, with Pepper in better spirits thanks to Capriccio. A little later in time, he could have heard about how all of the blame for the patient’s petrification fell onto Pepper, and Archmagus Lapin remained blameless.

What do you think?

Sure, all that sounds great to me! Heh, even I don't know how he'll react to the crush yet if he finds out, but it'll definitely be interesting to see! :D As for the connection, oh man, I know exactly what he'd think of Archmagus Lapin, and exposing frauds and liars like him is precisely what he wants to use his own stories and influence for! Capriccio might be more focused on the situation going on between Haven and Fanewick at the moment, but hearing what Lapin did to Pepper, the Archmagus's days of renown are numbered for sure.

I imagine he would've cheered her up with stories when they met, maybe one of a young mage woman who eventually makes her dreams come true and saves her family, mirroring Pepper's own situation to give her hope? Now all he has to do is make sure it happens for real. No biggie.

What happens next is not intended for polite company, I'm afraid. You're going to have to wait for the book. Available next year for only 9.99 gp!

By my calculations, rolling a crit is 3.333333333333332% more likely to happen in Daggerheart than it is in D&D.

Will finish the backstory tomorrow, but really, it's just a more written up version of the tl;dr that's there now, ha.

For the connection questions, I got these; anyone feel like any might fit their characters in particular, before I start bombarding people? :P

- What made you realize we were going to be such good friends?
- What do I do that annoys you? <- this is probably an easy pick for many
- Why do you grab my hand at night?

Easy indeed. Dimple is none too pleased by that story about a Clank and a Faerie.
