Physical Description:
The man - he hadn’t introduced himself, but he acted like a cop, so why ask questions - sighed, and pulled out a notebook. He thumbed through the pages, then leaned forward, pen poised.

“And how would you describe this…person?” He said, with a voice like smoke on asphalt.

“A fucking nutcase, that’s how,” came an affronted voice, “I mean, I dunno, five seven, five eight? Hot, if you like that she’s-probably-gay kind of look. Long coat, like an old trench coat, red button-down, black pants. Probably Asian?”

“Can you be more specific than that?” The pen made soft noises, the man didn’t look up, “What part of Asia?”

“Fuck you, man, how the fuck should I know?” A cough, “Her eyes are fucked up, though. Not the right colors. I thought they were contacts, because who has orange eyes? Doesn’t make any sense.”

“And you’re sure they’re not contacts.”

“Her eyes fucking glowed, man! When that thing came through the wall, she -”

“Thank you. We’ll take it from here,” the man said, tucking the notebook away.

A finger jabbed the air, somehow not quite pointing at the man. “Hey, she kicked me in the fucking balls, man, I want to -”

“We’ll be in touch.”

Enormously inventive, an excellent storyteller. Seems to really believe in the stories she tells about “the half-man” that she insists can be seen in the school hallways, but she is beginning to scare the other children now that Halloween is behind us. We may need to discuss this at the next parent-teacher conference.

Powers:

I see dead people - Felicity can perceive ghosts, revenants, and the unquiet spirits of the dead. That doesn’t mean that those spirits care that she can see them - though of course, some do. Felicity is equally comfortable with avoiding their notice, or pulling what awareness they have to herself if she needs - or wants to try - to speak with them.

Speaker to the Dead - There is a period of time after death where the soul remains bound to the body, and Felicity can communicate with it during that time. She has to physically touch the body, and the information is received as emotion, images, sense-memories, or single words rather than a cogent and coherent conversation.

Get the hell out - The most dramatic of Felicity’s strengths; she is an exorcist, a ghostbuster, a necromantic scalpel. Every exorcist has their own ritual, and Felicity’s is more dangerous than most. She requires physical proximity to the spirit (or its anchor in the physical world world), then time enough to find the being’s true name, then willpower enough to usher the spirit to the next world through that name, often but not exclusively through the medium of chant or very specific prayer.

Fear: Being the cause of a spirit’s justifiable wrath, not finishing something she’s set her mind to, making the world - this one or the one after - worse.

Desire: To find out why things are getting so much worse lately, and to shield those truly unable to defend themselves from what’s coming.

Name: Rupert Henry/Sir Aldus Grey

Character Concept: Knave Knight

Physical Description: A spin of yarn, a bit of grime, a man out of time. A pinch of charm, a penchant to rhyme, a skulking shift in the paradigm.

Rupert is unscrupulous, disheveled, and half the time unbathed. He sports a coat fit for a victorian and a hat that hides his indigo eyes. His face is symmetrical, albiet his nose is still crooked from a back alley scuffle in his early years. His hair is brown and as thick as wheat, and his skin had an almost pallid grey coloring to it. He has the distinct look of someone with a dangerous secret, with the air of a dealer of money, and a smile of someone not afraid to die.

In fact, he might welcome it.

General Background: Rupert Henry was born in 1809. An orphan, a street urchin. He made a home for himself in the backslums, working petty crimes and growing up without guidance beyond a friendly scholar who taught him a few educational anecdotes and ways to speak properly. One day, when Rupert was an adult, he went back to visit the old scholar, to find he had disappeared. The only thing left in the vacated estate, the only thing in the entirety of the cleared out structure, was a crucifix necklace, set on a dias.

He pocketed it, more to sell it than remember the old man, but eventually he did find himself putting it on his neck.

The necklace disappeared into a trillion golden sparks, and the mark of the cross was on his chest. Now, he has a voice in his head. The voice of the scholar, who, through an incessant amount of questioning, revealed himself to be Aldus Grey, Lord Captain of the Ordo Draconis, the Order of the Dragon.

Rupert is now bound, as Aldus is, to the Oaths of the Order and to finding the Seven Heads of the Beast, which are seven evil dragons. Three have been slain, in two hundred years. In that time, Rupert cannot steal, or he would feel the sting of a thousand needles in his eyes, he cannot lie, or be struck by lightning, and he cannot steal, or feel the sensation of being boiled alive. He has had to skirt the lines, do what he can to survive, while adhering to these draconian rules of life.

Powers:
Aldus's Arms & Armor: To cry "Arma Invicta" summons forth a suit of magical plate armor, along with a crucifix longsword able to harm otherworldly beasts. The armor was made in the fires of the last goodly dragon, Dómgreind. It can withstand small arms fire, and is resistant (but not immune) to magical attacks.

Skills of Practice: A two hundred year old young man, living with the knowledge and unsolicited advice of a six hundred year old knight.

Skullduggery: Rupert might be bound by oaths, but he knows how to bypass them in certain ways, and knows his way around a back alley.

Longevity: Rupert can die, if his head if removed or if he is drowned for an extended period of time. However, it is exceedingly difficult to kill him, and he can live indefinitely until the task of the order is complete.

Fear: Rupert fears being stuck in these oaths for eternity. He initially fears dying for this mission he had no stake in, but is beginning to think death might be a release. He fears not being able to truly live. Aldus, however, fears dying without fulfilling his oath.

Desire: Rupert wishes to be separated from Aldus, and allowed to live freely, or die to end it.

Name: Balthazar

Character concept: Half demon, half... what ?!

Physical description: There's little to suspect anything unusual from Balthazar as seen on the open street. Sure, he is tall enough to quite stand out of a crowd, but his trenchcoat and blue jeans are just as boring as most other people's clothes. Things become a tad more interesting once, if, he takes off the sunglasses as his eyes are... well one is obviously rather dysfunctional and the other appears like a featureless black hole all the more eager to absorb light. He's bald, his skin features a significant red hue (that can be worked against using cream) and appears quite rough and thick. He also wears shoes obviously too large for his size, but that is for the same set of sharp and pointy reasons he prefers not wearing any shoes at all whenever possible.

General background:
Balthazar once was just a demon and a pretty petty one at that. He went after small-time jobs to make a more or less humble living and ventured into the most shallow depths of street crime because... well you do things if you're really drunk even as some otherworldly entity.

What came next was no traditional, self-induced blackout however, but a deliberate attack on the back of his head. The scar's still there from that, but so are most of the other things that were subsequently done to him. Somebody or something tried to alter his very nature, to induce traits of a werewolf into him. Up to this day Balthazar has no real clue about who the culprit really is, only dead ends and mere suspicions. Somebody with a shitpile of money, scientifically talented underlings and some shady building to hide god who knows what kind of magical machinery in ? An unscrupulous megacorporation ? Or was it the lone, crazy madmage who could even try and pull this off all on his or her own ? Whoever it was and how it was done, the memory is just not there.

To give some credit, calling the ultimate outcome a complete disaster zone would be an overstatement. The sad thing is he doesn't even know how many failed prototypes before him it took killing before things worked out as haphazardly as they do in him.

Powers:
Infernal heritage: Fire's fun and while he's in no way immune to it, it takes a rather excessive amount of heat to really hurt him. That being said, he can be a magical pyromaniac himself if really needed. The equivalent of a jerrycan and a box of matches that both refill themselves when shaken.

This is my major malfunction: Balthazar suffers from seemingly random bouts of pain that stem from the fact that the two components of his new self still aren't integrated into another very well. A design deficiency so to speak, but on the plus side, when it is night and the moon's bright, he is considerably more of a formidable opponent as during daytime with heightened senses, increased ferocity and a lot more strength.

Quick fix: The occasional, spontaneous pain out of nowhere isn't the only symptom caused by the semi-failed state of the experiment. Whoever made it already expected a steady stream of internal damage that needed to be plugged up just as continuously by additional components. Taking a heavy hit or even a shot wound hurts as usual, but still is only an additional to an already existing pile that is regenerated speedily.

Fear: If somebody is behind his present condition and thus perhaps made a serious investment, then why is he still walking around freely ? Is he part of a manhunt he can't even remember having triggered or is his 'performance' monitored all the time without him even noticing ? Or are they dead by now, with him even being the killer maybe ?

Desire: He wants to know the truth, even if it is a shitty one. All the better if the truth would include the possibility of reverting him to his prior state, maybe even using the same tools that did this to him in the first place.

Name: Emrys Aeron

Character Concept: Apprentice Wizard with no Master

Physical Description:
A young man in his early twenties with a disheveled kind of charm, too little shirts and too many ink stains, always carrying a messenger bag bursting with notebooks and scraps of spell diagrams. His hair looks like it hasn't been brushed for a week. He walks with the quiet weight of someone grieving something still achievable. A small black-and-white magpie often follows him, perching on lamp posts or bookcases.

General Background:
Recently apprenticed to Master Elandros, a reclusive and respected wizard of Corvus Bay, Emrys was just beginning his formal training when Elandros was killed in the bombing of the Tem Tower. By magical law, apprentices cannot be claimed by another once bound, even in death. Emrys is now forced to self-teach, still legally an apprentice but without guidance, left to decipher old grimoires, the house wards, and all the half-finished theorems.

His one major success, and the final act before the bombing, was the summoning of his familiar, Quill, a magpie formed of the magic realm ‘Thamyr’. Through their telepathic bond, Quill acts as both a confidant and a tether to deeper magic.

The house is filled with animated domesticity: brooms that sweep when pointed at, tea kettles that whistle and pour on cue, pages that turn themselves. But all these are only ‘Thren’ magic, the innate magic. Real power lies in learning to call on the Thamyr, and Emrys is only just beginning.

Powers:
Thren Magic (Practical Magic):
Subtle, intuitive spellwork that manipulates the mundane world. Lighting fires, cleaning rooms, fetching books, and other household wonders come naturally. Requires no ritual — just intent and gesture.

Thamyr Magic (True Magic):
Rare, potent magic drawn directly from the Thamyr — a realm outside time and form. Used for summoning, warding, healing, and more. Requires effort, focus, and carries risk.

Familiar Bond (Quill):
A telepathic link to a magpie familiar made of the Thamyr. Quill cannot speak aloud but can communicate clearly via their bond. Clever, curious, and occasionally sharp-tongued in thought.

Apprentice (Masterless):
Emrys is still recognized by magical society as a legal apprentice. He cannot be claimed again and must meet all requirements on his own. To advance to Adept, he must pass the same Trials as any fully trained apprentice.

Fear:
Being forgotten. That his master’s death will be the beginning and end of his story — just another failed apprentice who never got to be great.

Desire:
To prove that even alone, even from nothing, he can become a true wizard. Not to replace his master’s legacy, but to earn his own.
