Nation, tabletop and arena have been in their death throes for some time. In order of "activity", it goes: Tabletop -> Nation -> Arena. Specialized RP like those three just don't draw much attention anymore on the guild.

It's funny to me that this post was made just a few days after NRP got a new IC.

It ain't exactly thriving, but people still post in there from time to time.

I fully understand the underlying reason for the Arena's lack of popularity. CRP was kinda niche even back when I started RPing, and definitely earned any bad rep it got, (at least where I started out).

But I'm curious as to why TTRP and NRP has declined. I'm assuming Tabletop via forum just doesn't hit the same as in-person or over Discord? And that NRP is generally just more moving pieces than most people these days care to deal with? Or are there more layers to consider?

That, and RPGuild does not seem to have a lot of history and economics buffs as of present, and those are the ones who like Nation RP the most.

Yeah basically. I have an RP on discord ive been running that is facilitated with Dice Maiden. I did make a custom RP system bot but that project didnt really work out due to feeling like it was a lot of work for stuff I can just do informally with a simpler dice roll bot.

NRP I lost interest in for a range of reasons, one being just how broken and disjointed the settings can get. Granted, having a premise like 'factions that are clients of an empire everyone wants to overthrow' can help with animating the plot but it still can get messy as everyone kinda has their own sub-story arc going on and in general it feels like the usual cohesion issues that an RP can have gets exasperated in a NRP where every character sheet affects the structure of the whole setting of the 'scenario'.

Nation RP was some of my best memories almost a decade ago on here and on other forums. Problem is its been so long I am not sure what I would do for it, and most RPs involving it are already established so I am not sure if I would fit in or pull my weight in an already established RP. There is also the issue that most nation RPs I see on this forum are on their way out in terms of activity. Part of me has just accepted that era of my life is over, and it is unlikely for me to find something that captured my level of interest as the Nation RPs I had many years ago.

You could ask the one that just had it's IC started. It has about six players so far, IDK if the GM wants anymore, but the world seems small with only six of us.

Nation RP was how I truly got my start into most of my deeper writing. My oldest and truest friend, and writing partner, is a fellow I met when I joined his NRP eighteen years ago. Given, I haven't actually played in an NRP now in... God, what, fifteen years, at least? Our writing transmuted from doing NRP to developing a large and expansive setting to write individual characters in, rather than entire nations at a time.

Lord knows I'm tempted to revisit it but, that's biting off another big chunk of work to rework systems that haven't been used in years when I already got a ton on my plate. Love seeing the section here still get posts though.
