In contrast to the tense, hostile atmosphere within the castle, the more common folk were having the time of their lives.

Much like previous festivals, the air was thick with jubilation and the yells of opportunistic merchants, hoping to sell their wares to foreigners at (ever so slightly!) raised prices.

As was tradition at the Festival, a small-scale tournament was being held; just a gathering of warriors and admirers sparring for the much-coveted prize of a Rat's Tail. And a free Elixir, courtesy of the Sponsor "Tony Berri's Cut-Downed Price Shop".
Elsewhere, a large stage for theatrics was currently helmed by mages all over, attempting to dazzle audiences with creative uses of their spells and equipment. The stalls that ranged from simple, mobile shops to miniature restaurants drew in all manner of people, and the outskirts contained the Chocobo Pens, as well as holding areas for acceptable, tamed beasts.

Amongst the crows was everyone's Superior, Kaltrina Admiranda.

The white-clad girl in glasses walked with her usual, confident air, giving an overly-critical eye to many of the features on display. Nothing here was worth even one of her precious, hard-earned gil! Surely the shopkeepers should try harder than this? There wasn't even a decent-looking cutlass for her!
Well, regardless of her doubts pertaining to quality, her stomach had been rumbling for about twenty minutes. So, after some debate, she finally conceded some of her precious, hard-earned gil in exchange for... something she hoped wasn't supposed to be a fried chocobo coated in malboro slime or something, because it certainly tasted like it.

"Great, now I need to buy an antidote," Kaltrina grumbled, throwing the remains of her food over her shoulder. It was aimed at the refuse container behind her, but who knew what could happen in a crowded festival when one did not look where they threw?

Arthur was quite literally a fish out of water

"Wow..." he marveled at the festivities going on around him. Such a wide range of people and things going on around him, it was almost overwhelming. "I...I don't even know where to start" he admitted to himself

Having gotten human legs not too long ago, Arthur was still adjusting. For example; having his movement limited to mostly to two dimensions was a pretty big one. Underwater, going up and down was as easy as left and right. So easy in fact, that he sometimes forgot about the new limitation to his mobility. This led to more then a few moments of him falling flat on his face when gravity reminded him

Also, pants. Hell, clothes in general took a lot of getting used to. Back home, Mermen going nude was the norm. Thanks to their tails hiding their...um...well...you know what I mean. Even though he no longer forgot to get dressed anymore, that didn't mean that he liked the feeling of clothes on his body, it just felt so weird after having gone his whole life in his birthday suit. He however, outright refuse to wear underwear. He understood the need for pants to cover up his...you know what, he saw them as redundant, especially since he wasn't supposed to wear only them in public

Changes aside, Arthur found himself thoroughly enjoying himself on land. He was able to see and experience so many new things up here. It was truly a treat

"Ah, what a nice da-WAAH!"

Something... something had hit Ferra right in the face. With a cry of surprise, the black-haired girl fell to the ground, waving her arms in the air as she toppled over. Her hat came tumbling off, rolling away for a moment before coming to a halt. For a moment, she laid on the ground, stunned that something had just... hit her in the face out of no-where. "W-waah... what... what was that...?"

The girl reached up and grabbed the... strange object, raising it in front of her face as she sat up, rubbing her head. She stared blankly at it... and then shot to her feet. "Is... is there a monster loose in the festival?! Then this is a job for... a job for... wait..."

Ferra looked around. There wasn't any monsters in sight! Where had something like this come from? The black mage girl tried to locate any real source of it... had something really just come out of no where to smack her in the face? She couldn't even identify it... she hoped no pretty girls had seen something so silly happen to her. It wasn't impressive or cool or anything at all!

... And where had her hat gone?!

The teeming throngs of people, eating, drinking, having fun, celebrating, meeting with old friends, the mass of different peoples and species, that was what he had come to see. Through them, Ososai moved as a silent observer, letting the emotions of the crowd wash over him like a wave on the shore, observing the people. that was why he'd come, to see this meeting of cultures and ideas. He'd had his share of food, and had some gil left to spend if he found something worth investing in, but that hadn't happened yet.

He wore a tunic under light leather armor, designed for flying and to accommodate the wings that sprouted from his shoulder blades, their color shifting from brown to black down towards the tips. The tuft that passed for hair was kept relatively tidy, the brown matching that of his wings. His skin was a light tan, yet spotted around the neck and back. He was light, yet sure of feet, passing effortlessly through the crowds that congested these streets as if he was passing from one air current to another. His bow was slung over his back, allowing his wings freedom of movement while making it easy to reach if he needed it.

He had no real goal, no purpose, no destination. He just weaved through the crowds, waiting for something to happen, a solitary bird of prey eying the ground for movement., even when not on the hunt.

Reynault and his father, Lord Baldwin, tried the best they could to manuver their chocobos through the massive crowed of people. It was near midday, and Reynault knew his father was getting frustrated. Lord Baldwin had an appointment to keep, but its nature was still a mystery to his son. Baldwin was a stern and occasionally harsh man, so Reynault wasn't going to pry. After pushing through a mass of people, they reached a humble but well used tavern. The two dismounted and Baldwin went to his son.

"Stay here. I'll be back after my appointment. Try not to get into trouble." said Baldwin. Reynault nodded, but was suprised when his father placed a modest sack of Gil into his son's hand. "Try to have some fun, too." Baldwin smiled.

Reynault was 19 years old and had known his father his entire life. His father trained him in the use of arms and court ettiqute. This was the first time Reynault had seen his father smile. Either something very good or very bad was on it's way.

Still, Reynault wasn't about to turn down free gil, especially when theirs a festival going on. He does his best to squeeze his way into the packed tavern and orders a drink, hopefully the first of many.

There isn't a massive lot known about moogles. It's not due to a lack of them, nor is it due to a mysterious nature; they are just somewhat difficult to fully understand. They obviously have some measure of survival prowess, otherwise evolution would have ruled them out centuries ago. Their intelligence that, compared to other races, might be enough to build major civilizations, points towards such prowess. But very little evidence of such things seem to exist. While the other species may not always admit it out loud, there was a general agreement that moogles were somewhat weird. Not that they minded, usually.

What was probably abnormal was the fact that there was a moogle walking around who didn't look like he was offering any sort of service. As far as merchandise, journalism, or plain workforce was concerned, moogles could pretty much cover the major spectrum of commercial careers. Mogwell wasn't interested in doing any of that; he was an adventurer at heart, and wanted to see the world and all it offered. With his wits, his rucksack and a good stick, this moogle was journey as far as his stubbly limbs could take him, and then some.

To Mogwell right now, though, the only that that was wrong was... something. It was some sort of extra sense moogles claimed to have, something that allowed them to detect when there was a problem at close range. If there was anything that Mogwell was willing to offer to anyone, it was a kindly favor or two. So, naturally, Mogwell started heading towards where he thought the conflict was... and promptly stumbled over some stray object. Picking himself up with his tiny arms, Mogwell shook off the fall and looked at what he tripped over: some bunch of cloth that might have been a sorcerer's hat. "...Kupo?" the confused moogle thought out loud. Someone wouldn't just leave this thing lying around.

VitaVitaAR said
...And where had her hat gone?!

Mogwell's problem sense flickered again, and he quickly put together that some fellow had lost this hat on accident. With a hop, skip, and a "Kupo!", the energetic moogle swooped the massive hat over his own head, prancing around the crowd to find whomever might've been missing it. He finally zeroed in on a young lady whose clothing seemed to resemble the scheme of the hat, and who had a very disoriented look on her face. Marching over to the girl's feet, Mogwell looked up from under the wide-brimmed mage hat as best as he could and asked "Ku Ku-po?"

A scream from somewhere directly behind her had grabbed Kaltrina's attention, causing her to turn and look with a raised eyebrow. She didn't quite hear her confused query, as it was not quite as loud as the shrieking, and was lost to the voices surrounding them. But the Blue Mage could only assume it was something along the lines of "Someone of higher importance and intellect has blessed me with their unwanted items". Yeah, that seemed plausible. Or she had tried to snatch the food from the air. How desperate and shameless.

Well, it may have been horrible food that Kaltrina didn't want, but she had still paid for it, which made it hers. And that meant she would not condone thievery! Folding her arms, the blue-haired girl smirked as she glared down at the Black Mage. glasses glinting quite conveniently in the sunlight.

"Serves you right, thief. If you cannot afford food at this festival, then maybe you and your little pet moogle should go slay some goblins until they drop a gil or two."

In spite of the fact that her first reaction should probably have been to look at the ground, given how particularly the question was asked, Ferra still looked around in confusion at initially hearing it. Where had that come from...? And then, finally, the black mage girl looked down at her feet, her twintails swishing. Oh, there was her hat! ... And a moogle under it! He must have found her hat and brought it to her! Smiling cheerfully, she snatched her hat and spun it once in her free hand, before placing it on her head. "Thanks, young moogle! You have assisted BLACK MAGICAL GIRL FERRA-oh wait I still need to figure out where this came from!"

Her hand came down to pat the moogle on the head, while she raised the strange item and looked it over in her other hand. It was almost indescribable, what kind of object could this ever be...?

Realizing there was someone else speaking to her, Ferra turned to face the source of the voice and... and... it was a pretty girl! Her tone wasn't exactly the nicest and neither was what she was saying, but Ferra could clearly charm her into being nicer! "... I am no thief, however! I am the wonderful, the beautiful..."

Ferra thrust one hand skyward, her leg moving back as she did.

"BLACK MAGICAL GIRL FERRA SAEBELLE! And you are clearly beau-w-wait..."

Something the other girl had said finally caught up to her. Ferra lowered her hand, still clutching the strange item, and stared at it. Her eyes widened in shock as the word really, truly sunk in.

"... Th-this is food?!"

Hearing a commotion, Arthur walked over to find the source of the noise. What he found was two human girls (at least they looked human. He wasn't human, but he looked like one now) and a moogle. "Fascinating" Arthur had no idea what was going on, but he assumed it was some sort of land dweller thing. So he watched them in fascination, nibbling on a treat he had gotten not to long ago as he did

When the lady finally went from swerving her head around to noticing the moogle carrying her hat, Mogwell was rather grateful for the burden being lifted off of his limbs. That hat was actually fairly heavy, for the petite little creature; the way the girl managed to twirl it around back upon her head made it seem so easy! Her reaction afterwards, then seemed very normal up until when she began to shout her name and title as if she were some spectacular sight (and perhaps she was, not that Mogwell would know). Still, through plain, slitted eyes Mogwell looked at the girl fully and nodded to her thanks.

What soon thereafter followed was a verbal strike against the mage and the moogle, coming from a blue-haired, white clothed lady who for all the world acted like the owned the world. The sun's light glinted through the offender's spectacles as she stared daggers down at the pair, showing herself off in a so arrogant manner that a seed of vengeance sparked in the moogle. "KUPO! Ku-popo kupo Ku ku-po, kupo ku KUPO!? [Hey! Who do you think you're calling a pet, you white WITCH!?]" Mogwel yelled, flailing his tiny arms angrily at the lady.

Human cities were just so...loud. She should have been used to it by now, having spent a quarter of her life amongst the humans and their cities, but one thing Esmorica never got past was the noise. From the sound of merchants peddling their overpriced wares to drunkards slamming their flagons together in a toast, noise was everywhere. And it was only increased due to the ongoing festival. The rose haired woman currently sat outside a tavern, her chair overlooking the streets. In front of her was a glass of berry wine. The bartender had told her it was elvish in origin. The reason why the glass in front of Esmorica was still mostly full was because it was not, in fact, elvish. But to the humans and other races whose knowledge of elves most likely started and ended with "loners who live in trees", the fruit blend of the wine was probably enough to fool them.

Esmorica was hardly an expert on the elves, though she suspected out of everyone in attendance at today's festival she would be considered a scholar. It helped having elvish blood. But she was not here to reconnect to her elvish kin. The only reason Esmorica had come to the fesitval, to this country at all, was sheer curiosity. In her century of living, she hadn't been to the Great Festival, and as of now she was remembering why she had put it off for one hundred years. Lazily, the woman twirled her thin finger along the rim of the wine glass, a soft tune sounding out. Her expression showed both annoyance and boredom, and her posture added to that. She was adorned in a maroon outfit made of fine cloth that hung loose on her frame. She was especially slender, but not in a sickly fashion. So slim she was that she had to lean forward in her chair, upper torso hovering over the table, just to lazily swirl her finger around the glass rim.

To those not in the know, Esmorica could pass for a human, albeit one who looked like she had been missing meals for twenty years. She didn't look a day above her late twenties, despite being five times older than that. The perks, the curse, of elvish blood.

Currently, her emerald eyes were observing a scene involving a moogle and some humans, females by the look and sound of it,and then joined by a male. She sighed, continuing to produce soft musical tones from her wine glass. The antics of these humans, how excitable they got, it was all so utterly dull, so trite, so pathetic.

"Children at play," she spoke of the revelry going on with the moogle and the other humans, "Children away from their parents, causing their mischief, their troubles, no concern or care for anyone or anything. Tiresome, the lot of them. Tiresome, this entire affair."

Esmorica sighed and shook her head. Come next festival, she would be far away from here.

Ososai moved along through the crowds, nearing one of the many taverns that dotted the city, business expanded outside to accommodate the numerous amount of travelers who moved through the city with the great festival. Around he could see a variety of creatures, humans, dwarves, moogles, even an elf or two, like the one sitting outside with a full glass of some drink, looking very disinterested in the going on of the world around her. While some may have mistaken her for a human, Ososai was keen enough of eye to note the physical differences that shows she was an elf.

His gaze was then drawn to the ongoing disagreement. regular humans bickering over..something, with a moogle involved as well. Wings folded, he leaned back against a wall to watch and observe, to see what happened and perhaps intervene if necessary.

Kaltrina's silence was almost audible with the sheer disbelief exuded from her arm-crossed frame. Somewhere in the distance, roars from that stupid tournament could be heard.

The Blue Mage really wanted to snark heavily at something, but she was at a bit of a loss. After all, it was tough to disagree that, food it may be, the stuff was difficult to recognise as such. Poke fun at her introduction? Perhaps, but there was a crowd drawing, and she didn't want idiots leaping to defend other idiots. Then she'd be stuck facing off against an Idiot Army. Idiot Armies were, like, the third worst thing she could face in this life filled with mediocre peers. The moogle was already acting up and screaming gibberish at her, after all.

With a 'hmph' and a flourishing motion as she adjusted her glinting glasses, Kaltrina slapped on a condescending smirk, saying, "...I don't care who you are, foolish girl. Just don't dare presume you can feed from my scraps again." The arrogant mage turned to leave.

Meanwhile, a traveling caravan was approaching the festival grounds. The large wagon, covered in a thick cloth, obviously held some kind of beast within. It was scheduled for a gladiatorial battle against the finest soldiers of the four kingdoms, for the citizens to watch. Officially, it was supposed to symbolise unity against adversity, but it was rather rare to find anyone who actually knew this these days. Whatever creature lay within was not exactly weak, and there was great difficulty in capturing it, but it seemed docile enough for now.

"... If... if this is food, I don't want to eat it!" replied Ferra, staring blankly at the horrific mass in her hand. It was like the horrible result of some kind of run-in between two extremely grotesque monsters, not anything remotely approaching being edible. However, her focus was quickly on the girl again. She was sounding kind of mean, but... it wasn't a problem at all! Clearly she was just nervous, or shy! "No beautiful girl like you should ever have to endure such a monstrous attempt at cooking! If you tell me who sold you something like this, I can help you get your money back in the name of love and justice! And then, I'll buy you a better meal!"

Oh yes, this was the first step. If the girl was impressed or eager after hearing this, her hastily-assembled plan would have worked just as it should have!
