I'm a bit confused. I got the impression we all got our own parts of the world, and that every now and then species would cross between different spaces. but from what I'm reading of the rp, it looks like we're all sharing the same space.

Well, I think that makes it more interesting.

Keep in mind that even if we're far apart, it has not been defined how large spread the different species are, so to speak. So we could /technically/ be far off, and still end up getting attacked by some vestigial members of another species.

Hm, see, this is why we have Sphere limits. The limit here is how quickly or slowly we do things, not doing a lot of things and then making a lot of mistakes in the same time to 'make up for it'. Like I said, this I'll let slide- On condition that you slow down yourself considerably next post.

We're all over the place, but our species are spreading and most of them share the same habitat (calm shallows with a lot of blue-green algae). So we'll all be interacting on top of each other pretty soon.

So, I've come to the conclusion that my entity is more of a scientist, observing and taking notes, trying to factor in all the variables. It looks like people are gearing up for multi-cellular organisms too, might want to jump on board soon. Just so I can keep up :S

I think I'm going to develop plants first. And possibly release them out once their self sustained, thriving multicellular organisms, then possibly that offers up a food source for others?
Then I think I'll move on to creating herbivores. Since you can't have carnivores without herbivores lol

Man I love this RP lol it ties in nicely with my biology and chemistry courses.

According to the initial post in the OOC, the amount of influence in a taxon is proportional to the speed it takes for the desired biological change to happen. And once you put influence into something, you can't remove it until that taxon is extinct (and even then it only gradually comes back).

So, if you need your taxon to evolve quickly, then invest a large percentage of your influence into it. But if you'd prefer slower evolution, and if you want to keep some influence on hand in case of an emergency or opportunity, then you should save it.

Wish I'd thought about this before using all my points up...

Lol you haven't used them all up, you've at least 85% left to distribute wisely. Personally, I think the initial evolution needs the most effort as you have to build a complex creature. It takes much less effort and time to gives bird wings than it does to take a unicellular organism and make it into a bird. Know what I mean?

Well, I know that, but I've used up all the influence I can use at the moment, so...

I agree, but I'd just like to note that one factor for that is that birds reproduce sexually while unicellular organisms reproduce asexually, and thus don't vary quite as much genetically.

Yes but even with asexual reproduction, there can be genetic mutation, and alterations of the genes from the entity, making it quite easy to create genetic diversity ^.^ especially since the entity can move them to different areas and make them adapt and change like my entity moving deep dwelling organisms to the surface and gifting them the ability to photo synthesize.

Don't worry too too much ^.^ we're so early on that anything can happen, and I look forward to reading about what does ^~^

I know I'm a little late to the "What powers should entities have" discussion, but I had a thought. Since players species are currently overlapping some anyway, what if entities were able to control the movement of their species? That way those who wish to increase contact between players would be able to with more reason then "they just kind of bumped in to each other". The way I'm thinking of it is that it would be less of a power and more of a role-play facilitator. Also, it seems like some people are moving them anyway.

So yeah, just a thought.

The movements are random and just happen to overlap. However, the thing about that is we can already do that by simply altering the genes that deal with their instincts. You can modify them so that they migrate and then settle in a new environment. It's not that difficult.
