@Hekazu, just move Brannor one square west. This isn't worth arguing about who was where or what after calling it. No less, I am not surprised at all that we are still waiting on others to post their grid location.

Very well. DM post will be updated accordingly.

Atch, sorry about that. I got confused about placement and inadvertently chose the square you were in Harbringer. Guess that's what I get for not reading. Anyways let me pester the other two, see what's going on with them.

I'm sorry for the delay, I've been watching but recent events had made it difficult for me to post. I promise to get something ASAP. As for Kyra, she will be hidden at B4.

Well that solves one person. Now to pester Ryo. I'll include Orchid's AoP and further action in my next post.

Against the provoking target at C10 (due to the change of positioning in the meta) the hunter will strike with an angled, downward blow of his greatsword. Assuming a 20 for the prepared attack of opportunity connects, it deals 10 slashing damage. Let me know if you need anything else too, @Hekazu.

Ah, btw, could I do a Reckless Attack and Grapple? Grapple is an attack action (important to know so I can use it to maintain rage) but I don't want to burn a rage. I also wanna know if I could Reckless Attack+Grapple as an attack of opportunity, if that's okay with you.

Opportunity Attack is not an Attack action, due to its nature as a reaction. It is but a single melee attack, which is why Extra Attack does not function with it either. However, I think this is one of those times when we can consider this needless bickering and allow a grapple attempt to be made. It makes perfect sense for one to be able to try it, so go on ahead with that if you want.

Reckless Attack doesn't work with that though. Grappling is not a weapon attack and it is not exactly "the first attack of your turn".

Atch, I gotta stop forgetting all my own questions. This might seem like a "No shit" sort of question, but would Orchid still have advantage for sneak attacking or did he lose that once he shot the kobold? I imagine that would be the case, but just in case I do have Advantage and forgot about it.

Yes, hello to you too Cypher. I apologize for not saying anything sooner, I honestly have no excuse. But if you'll let me, I can work on a post tonight. Parum will be at A1.

Any attacks made do tell your location, if I am not completely mistaken. One would have to take the Hide action to re-enter hiding and gain advantage anew.

Next, Shoving is a separate action. Cannot grapple and shove with the same one.

As for the DC the cultist has to meet, it'll be your athletics check versus their athletics/acrobatics check, and that happens every time they try to escape. I will now assume you have attempted to grapple, not shove since we spoke of grappling earlier. The cultist fails their escape attempt with a roll of 9. Nonetheless, I urge you to go through the rules related to grappling one more time.

Now I'll have to head off to bed, will be back to respond to things later.

Ah, sorry @Hekazu, I guess I wasn't too clear on what happened.

I had Orchid use a grapple as his Attack of Opprotunity, which I was fairly certain would succeed with a 23.

Then it was my turn, so I used my standard action to shove, which I'm pretty sure I failed at with a 7, but who knows maybe the baddy rolls a 1 or 2.

Move action, I pulled out my shortsword.

I did my Attack of Opportunity and my turn in the same post, if that makes any sense.

Edit: Also when you mentioned this bit,

I assumed you meant I could grapple as an AoP, which really helps my action economy to allow me to Grapple into Shove.

I may be tired, but of course that was what happened. More of a reason to rest before making more calls.

@Hekazu For Torus,' reaction, he will employ the Brown Bear's Claws, a Melee Weapon Attack: +5 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 11 (2d6 + 4) slashing damage.

It lands only for 6 damage.

Ooookaaaay I've noticed a slight hiccup in grappling being used as an AoO... the target does not actually leave your reach if you do that and AoO's are only granted on leaving reach. How does this function with other character's AoO's? Now we are getting complex.

@Hekazu

I think the way it works is that when the enemy attempts to leave your reach. I emphasis attempt because there's plenty of reasons why the enemy may not leave your reach, such as you tripling, grappeling, or killing them when they try. In this instance, the AoP, if taken, occurs before the escape attempt does. It's only when it fails to stop or does t occur is when the enemy is free to continue their movement.

To put it in another way, do we retcon Brannor's AoP because he effectively killed his guy, since he also didn't leave Brannor's reach?

Thing is, if somebody succeeds on their grapple, are they considered leaving the reach of others any longer? Or do all AoO's fire simultaneously? Best just consider it the latter, spares me the headache.

Reactions I have seen classified as immediate in terms of when they occur. Such as, the man turned to run but in doing so, it immediately triggered the opportunity attack in that less-than-second gap of time. If multiple actions were to occur, I imagine that order of initiative would come into play to resolve them; say two fighters both stepping away from each other and thus both provoking opportunity attacks. Who swings first then? Reasonably whoever is higher in initiative is the safer fallback. For a grapple on an attack of opportunity, the same concept would apply to an extent where the enemy is moving to exit, but is caught by the back of their clothes and has, as of yet, left their five-foot cube they occupy.

It is a bit confusing but that was how I had seen it handled in Third Edition where this came up more because of all the varied combat maneuvers melee fighters would use. That's all I have to compare it to, but it is not too large a leap, even between editions.

On another note @Hekazu, would the fleeing men still be in bow range? I imagine so, but I wanted to be certain. I am under the assumption by their next turn they will be outside its effective range for all of us.

With a dash, they would have made it 60 feet away. That should be in bow range.
