The Premise
The year is 1984. Apple has aired a commercial during the Super Bowl. The groovy days of the 70s have come and gone. The fear of communism has faded. The Axis Powers are but a memory. But events leave echoes. Echoes of the past. The repercussions of the actions our forefathers took still effect us to this day. And the side effects of the Manhattan Project and subsequently, the hydrogen bomb still control us with fear. You are a resident in a small town. The town's name is Boca Diablo, and it's location is that of the swamplands of Florida. Whether you have just moved into the town, or have lived in it your whole life does not matter. You will be effected by the opening of the government operated Boca Diablo Power Plant, which claims to run off swamp gas. Power prices are down, but the plant's opening has had strange effects...
People have claimed to see alien figures roaming the swamps in the dead of night, searching for something. They bring with them blinding lights and mysterious technologies. Those who encounter these figures are never left the same, screaming gibberish , forever broken by the strange beings they encountered by chance. The known victims include the head of local library, who was performing some wannabee photography when attacked; The owner of the local music store, out on a peaceful stroll; And a family who had gotten lost and stopped to ask for directions, a mistake they would regret for many years. These figures have all been encountered within a mile of the power plant. The area has gained the nickname Heaven's River.
Even more mysterious are the dogs. The amount of pet owners in Boca Diablo has dropped 50% since the opening off the power plant, as dogs have been whisked away from homes to who knows where. Only one eyewitness exists for these dognappings, that being 6 month year old Addy DuWalt. She hasn't been talking, as she doesn't know how to speak. Even more curious is the fact that shipments of abandoned dogs were seen going into the plant before it's opening, leaving little to no need for test subjects.
And finally, the most important mystery is the fact that there appears to be no city government. The sheriff remains, as do those in the lower castes, but all traces of the mayor and city council have vanished. All official releases by the city government have been given by individuals employed at the power plant. Excuse after excuse has come out of the mouths of those remaining, but what has happened to the mayor and the Council? Their families have either gone reclusive or left town entirely. It seems the opening of the power plant may have spelled the doom of Boca Diablo...

Hello, and welcome to the Soft Winds! The Soft Winds is a mystery sci-fi roleplay set in the early to mid 80s, and inspired by Stranger Things. This roleplay primarily serves as slice of life, with heavy mystery elements. You will play as a resident of Boca Diablo, Florida, trying to live their day to day life. You can play as anyone you wish, excluding mayor and city council. Wanna open up a record store? Sure! Wanna be the stoic and tough sheriff? Go right on ahead! Want to be an intern at the mysterious and menacing power plant? Whatever suits your fancy! I will have to set up a few rules, but this rp will have an optional main story, more or less. But don't be surprised if some alien comes knocking at your door asking for the phone. Nobody is safe from the madness.
