For now let us sweep this discussion under the rug for the most part. I do not want bad blood to be spilled for little reason.

Why is there no equivalent to japan?

I had considered it and a Chinese analog. I opted against the Chinese analog as they would not be much better off than the nations people are RPing except for being larger and have more population.

Japan just felt too distant from the other nations. It was half way around the world from the other theater and is largely known for it's naval capabilities. The problem is that even though the UK favored their navy as well they did their best to be directly or indirectly involved in the entire war. Japan had 2 theaters, the Chinese ground theater and Pacific naval theater. The 2nd Sino-Japanese war is often heavily overlooked unnecessarily but that is in part due to Euro-centric history. Naval forces are very, very expensive to build and maintain which will be hard for these nations to field. The Japanese Army was also generally facing under-equipped, under-trained Chinese forces which is why so many battles became utter massacres.

I felt it just would not fit, the Japanese Empire was resource poor and it's industrial power and population could never really challange the others nations here head to head. I feel it is more of a local power than a global one.

PEOPLE'S REPUBLIC OF VARCIA

Name: People's Republic of Varcia.

Government: Marxist Single Party State.

Economy: A command economy principally designed around state control of major industries. Multiple year plans are enacted to ensure smooth transitions as new industries come online. Principle exports are machine parts and oil. Varcian oil fields are some of the sole reason's that the People's Republic has not become wholly defunct, as they make up an immense portion of it's national revenue via exportation.

Population: 2,100,000 Varcians.

Society: Work in Progress.

Military: Approx. 84,000 Soldiers/3.0% of Population[/i]

VARCIAN PEOPLE'S ARMY: Composed of 80,000 men (of whom 90% are volunteer and the remaining 10% serve on a one-year rotational draft draft). The People's Army is divided into eight divisions at 10,000 men a piece, with two subsequent Armored Divisions with the Varcian DN-12 Medium Tank and supporting military pieces such as artillery and anti-tank weapons. The Varcians have 480 DN-12 Medium Tanks and 60 unidentified and imported Heavy Tanks from the People's Socialist Republic.

Varcian DN-12 Medium Tanks

VARCIAN PEOPLE'S AIR FORCE: The Varcian People's Air Force composes about 4,000 men and flies 40 squadrons of 12 aircraft a piece -- totaling roughly 480 aircraft. The most common is the nationally designed Vosdanya-12R, a monoplane fighter used for combat air patrol and air superiority. Armed with 6 .50 caliber machine guns with a total ammunition count of 3,100 rounds.

Varcian Vosdanya-12R

Foreign Relations:
-- Republic of Phenaerum: Largely cold, emphasis on a mercantile economic system shows their deliberate weakness. Relations are not quite cordial, but minor trade does occur between this country.
-- United Territories of Civitas: Mostly the same as with the Phenaerans, the People's Party recognizes the existence of this state but has not fostered any relations beyond open trade agreements.
-- Republic of Radom: Cordial relations with this "republic," exist between Varcia and Radom. Varcia imports large numbers of small arms weapons and gunnery pieces from Radom while exporting fuel to them. The People's Party show public support for the Radomian National Coalition of the Right but support Communist movements wherever they may lie.
-- Eisenkreis: The People's Republic of Varcia does not openly recognize this state exists.

History: Work in Progress.

Oh, it borders Legion's nation, I didn't think to draw a red line there =/

but it's essentially the area between the red line and Legion's nation.

I am working this weekend so my posting will be a bit sparse still.

Something I should have noted but did not is that the average nation size for the area is the island Gowia controls and the average population would be around 5 million.

If I miss anything or anyone see any potential problems I am very receptive and understand nobody is perfect and catches everything.

GemCat, I do not see any problems, your territory with 3 million people will be a bit on the sparser side with smaller cities and more decentralized population. Given your nation though I assume that is not only acceptable but intended.

Gowia, that battleship worries me a little being a modern battleship on the same level as most modern nations. It is a maybe depending on if you can give me more detail on those other ships of yours and their numbers. I could imagine it being acceptable if it is one of only a handful of ships of destroyer size or larger given the huge monetary and resource cost of building and maintaining that. I understand that in order to have it your nation did not only weaken itself but almost outright crippled it's military in other areas for it which is why I am considering it.

Legion X51, you claimed a larger amount of territory than I would like though depending on if other people join or if everyone else is okay with it I can allow it though understand that as such a large nation that does already look to be aligning towards another you will find yourself the focus of efforts by the other major powers to overthrow your government or make your nation weaker to strengthen their allies in the region. I have a few other things for you Legion but will have to write to you later.

EDIT: I want everyone to understand not everyone will necessarily be on a level playing field as some nations will be more powerful than others as that is reality. Part of the fun on an NRP is trying to take weakness and turning it into strength or even seeing where that weakness leads.

The Industrial Revolution hasn't really taken hold in Phenaerum yet. The sparse population IS intentional. My country is a little underdeveloped, which scares me slightly seeing the other militaries. If someone tries invading me I might get stamped out of existence,

That makes sense Gemcat and will make negotiations with nations interesting as they try to tempt you to open up with promises of infrastructure and industrial capability.

Legion your military is overall too advanced by about 3 years and that is assuming you imported all those weapons as well. This is 1939 of the Panzer IV you will be seeing ausf. C or D at best. The Panzer III would be ausf C or D as well. 110+ modern tanks is also a bit much to start the RP with. Look more towards importing panzer IIs, and just starting to work on importing panzer III's and IV's. If you want an early RP thing could be negotiating for a production license of Wechsein Reich equipment. Your rifles being semi-automatic is also a bit much at the very start and I noticed it is a '39 model. It is borderline impossible to outfit your entire army with a new rifle in just a year.

I would rather people not domestically produce tanks, planes, etc that would just be becoming modern and would be the kind of thing the major powers were producing without a production license

All of my country's equipment is imported, I just didn't know if I could list the names of it in-world and still be accurate to the universe you wanted to create.

I plan to maintain analogs to real world equipment. Even if your gear has a different name to what i make up for it that is fine as we can simply say that is your nation's designation for it.

Hey Omega I had a question on that, you know how many nations had their own 'strange' perhaps not very effective but interesting designs of tanks and stuff that were produced on a small scale in WW2? Can people have the equivalents to those? For example the Semple tank from New Zealand.

Yes, you can have domestic designs of your own but things like the US M4, Soviet T-34, German Panzers will come from thos major nations and you must import, steal, attempt to reverse engineer, etc to get the designs of that stuff.

Anything else from things sprung from your own mind to things from smaller nations of the era you can produce domestically as long as it is within your industrial capability.

With this in mind, I had an idea for my own nation's military forces. Eisenkreis is a heavily defensive nation that doesn't have an active air-force, with most of their servicemen serving in the Panzer divisions and as Panzergrenadiers. What little non-mounted infantry divisions they do have, I was imagining them as a sort of armored infantry, kind of like from Jin-Roh. Wanted to see what you thought of it before I just dropped it in my sheet as a surprise =D

Your infantry can wear thick body armor if you want. This body armor would be more like thick metal plates sewn into pouches, it would be heavy, cumbersome, expensive, and have difficulty with high velocity rounds though of some effectiveness against pistol rounds and ricochets.

Glorious, that is exactly what I was looking at, though the plates would be more on the outside with a form of flak vest as the backer. High-velocity rounds are definitely a thing that will be a problem with it, though that goes without saying. Here is an image of what I was referring to, just to be a little clearer though:

WIP -- I plan for this faction to be a minor air & naval power, defended (and defined) by its relatively powerful navy & air force on the coast, and by its small army on the mountains, where it keeps additional air units to help defend the country. Military emphasis is on the air and sea -- hence powerful ships and planes. However, tanks and infantry are sadly lacking, and only used in self-defense or in occupying battered enemy territory close to the shores that they bombard.

Name The United Kingdom of Valeria -- a.k.a. The Valerian Empire

Ruler: King Adrian Dragonstone

Economy: Capitalist -- with minor governmental regulations in place, to keep inflation down. There are also government-owned industries in place to keep the rising corporations in check. Not only does this help regulate the economy, but it also provides a very good way for the Emperors to acquire a vast sum of wealth for their own endeavors.

Population: About 7,500,000 (1930 census), somewhat densely populated.

Society: WIP

Military:

Foreign Relations: Due to the recent coronation of their new Emperor, the Valerians have yet to modify their new foreign policies off of his opinions. Word is that he operates differently than his late father, Emperor Charles Dragonstone, in the fact that the new Emperor plans to pursue a more aggressive military and diplomatic policy overseas. In addition, he is also looking for new allies to further strengthen his nation's power.

History: WIP, coming soon.
