yet from those flames
No light, but rather darkness visible
- Milton, Paradise Lost

Centuries have passed since the Shadow was defeated, and little is it mentioned anymore, and then only in whispers. The Clerisy, those dutiful and punctilious protectors of piety and order, have ensured that only the most sanitized and pious accounts of the Great Battle circulate, in which Justinian, their incarnate god, met the Dark Lord Daigon on the ashen plains of Nagath and in single combat vanquished him. In the deserts far to the south, the arrogant wizard-lords of the Dratha scoff at such stories, and debate theories of their own about the fall of Daigon and the Empire of Nagath. Some question whether there ever was a Dark Lord, speculating that the Temple created an antagonist to justify its own pretenses to sanctity.

Whatever the truth, it is clear that Nagath was once the seat of a great dominion. The ruined fortresses of steel and black stone, the great earthworks channeling rivers of molten rock, the half-ruined machines still capable of great destruction, the shrines haunted still by demons and dark gods, these and more remain testimony to some former glory...or horror.

But now it is a wasteland, infested with warring tribes of beastkin and orcs and barbarous men, the haunt of trolls and ghouls and outcasts from every corner of the civilized world, acknowledged by the Imperium only when they send in expeditions to massacre its remaining inhabitants in an effort to prevent them from ever becoming too numerous.

It is here, in this gods-forsaken land of ash and fire, of ruins and warring tribes, it is here that you will forge a kingdom.

-

Welcome!

In this RP, players will design and play as a characters and/or factions within the vast wasteland of Nagath, a Mordor-like analogue in the fantasy world of Geryon. There will be NPC nations around Nagath taking an interest in what goes on within it, most notably the theocratic Justinian Imperium and the Imperium's sworn vassal-princes known as the March Lords who hold the hill country between Nagath and the Imperium's eastern flank. These vassals, and the Imperium they answer to, will not tolerate a threat rising in the seat of the ancient Dark Lord Daigon.

Yep! I know @Ashgan is also eyeing a naval faction based up north, in the Sea of Curses, so you may want to work on some joint history there? Chance for some ship-bound rivalry?

Edit: also it's the Broken Coast, not the Broken Teeth...though that's a cool name too.

That's true. The distance between the two seas is not insignificant though, I imagine their domains are well separated. Maybe some feuds over influence on the eastern coast of Nagash.

Speaking of cardinal directions: Your description of the Justinian empire states it lies *east* of Nagash, but on the map it's clearly west. Or at least it's to the left. Does the compass point towards the bottom, or is it a slip-up?

@Ashgan Okay cool lets stay in touch and talk about shared history, our two factions are rival camps who are fighting over turf in the reigon? Or maybe a shaky alliance? What would you like?

Not quite sure yet. Would depend a bit on what your dudes are like I think. One of the big things about my faction is that they care a huge lot about the purity of blood, both in an ethnical sense as well as noble lineages. If your faction can somehow impress them with high borne individuals, chances are they would be open to peaceful contacts, but if they only see mixed trash, probably less inclined. Last night I wrote some (admittedly not very well refined) piece of flavor fluff to get a feel for my faction. I'll just put it in a hider here, and you can give it a look-over to get a rough idea of what I'm gunning for here.

Are The Claws open for settlement? I am thinking a non-standard (i.e.. not dwarves) mining race. If magic is rare, scary and dangerous in this world, would it work for the race to be mining the equivalent of magic uranium or oil? I'm thinking something unstable/volatile, like Necrotite from the Iron Kingdoms, but not necessarily with the connection to undeath.

I like the sound of it, at least. Now I'm reminded of IK though and how much I like the base concept for the legion of everblight :L
Also, your suggestion reminds me of the Skaven in Warhammer, being a non-standard digging race who harvest magically radioactive material (Warpstone).

Yep, everything is currently open for settlement, and we'll figure out how to accommodate everyone's territorial claims as they come in. (territorial boundaries are going to be more blurred than usual for an NRP).

That general concept sounds fine to me, @the ZAX. Besides naming those mountains the Claws, bc I thought that's a cool name for a mountain range, I have nothing in particular developed for them, so you can go nuts.

Same goes for everyone for the rest of the map- everything not already described in the OP is open for naming/claiming/backstory creation.

@Flagg Excellent, I will work on this and start running things by you guys soon :D

@Ashgan I completely forgot about the Skaven! There would be a bit of them in there as well.

Hey, this looks fun. I'm thinking of making an orc nation that's more than just some kind of barbaric horde.

I might be interested in playing with the Bay of Teeth region at the southeast, but I don't have any specific ideas yet.

Ahh well I hadnt thought too hard about blood lineage but I suppose they would be filthy mongrels in that sense. Basically glorified pirates with a thirst for conquest. I feel that our factions would be in direct conflict. How about we have them as warring factions in the same area of the map? I'd be happy to occupy 40% of the land with your nation controlling the majority.

I'd prefer for factions to be concentrated on the mainland. The other areas are meant to be NPC areas.

Also, since I dont know how Discord works, I set up a chatzy.

If you want that, sure. I'd like to stay within the Sea of Curses to the north because I like the name and cannot get enough of describing cold-ass waters and how shit it is for the people sailing on it. Not sure if this really is a 60/40 split as you suggest, but I made a cursory edit of the map to put some perspective on our potential region of influence, with friction happening along the shared borders. My region is filled in purple, yours orange.
