Hello! I've been playing a lot of Skyrim (perhaps too much Skyrim) recently, and I've been toying with the idea of running an Elder Scrolls roleplay set in the Fourth Era, post-Skyrim, and dealing with the repercussions of the Skyrim civil war and assassination of the Emperor leading to a vacated throne in the Imperial palace once again.

However, the outcome of Skyrim has come about in a logically inconsistent manner because, as it turns out, killing Alduin is something of a bad idea for maintaining a logical and causal timeline due to Alduin simultaneously being Akatosh, Akatosh's firstborn, and just an aspect of Akatosh. That is, a Dragon Break happened, and for a few years Skyrim ceased to be part of normal time.

The resolution of this is a scenario where Ulfric is High King, and yet Skyrim is still part of the Empire--largely autonomous with its own armies, harkening back to the Alessian Empire. The Stormcloaks won the Civil War, and yet the Jarl of Whiterun remains unchanged but the Jarl of Winterhold has changed hands*. The Legion was defeated--and yet the general commanding it lives. Essentially, the outcome is that both sides got what they wanted: the Empire retains Skyrim and the civil war is completed, yet Talos is worshipped freely and the Thalmor hold no influence. Of course, this puts the current peace under even more strain, and the Empire in a position where it desperately needs to regain Hammerfell in some manner and strengthen its hold on High Rock...

Seeing as this is a text-based RP, all the old and amusing spells get to make their return, like levitation and burden and Scrolls of Icarian Flight, Mark and Recall (don't get lost) and even the luck that comes from Sanctuary. And for the same reason, a lot of the less playable lore concepts (the many, many types of Khajiit come to mind) are perfectly viable.

I draw the line at including some of the out of game works for completely clashing with the tone of everything else.

So, is anybody interested? And are there any preferences for, e.g., starting location/group size?

*Admittedly, this one is because the current Jarl's a bloody idiot as regards his hold and I doubt he'd hold on for long anyway.

Excellent!

I have another thing to posit: on the totem pole of character importance, where should this end up? Sidequest "helping people out but not significantly altering the course of history" or directing the shape of the future (where it would be entirely possible for one of the characters to be a Shezzarine or the Nerevarine/Dragonborn). Either way, being Elder Scrolls, everything is probably determined by which cave someone lost things in.

*excitedly dusts off my plethora of Elder Scrolls OCs* Sign me the hell up for this. I'm interested x20. I've RP'd Elder Scrolls so much. Ever since I'd first played Morrowind as a little girl. It's been a good year or two since I last got the chance so I'm here as hell.

Now that there's enough people showing interest, I'd like to ask again about the few points raised before I make the thread proper, especially large group vs small group. ^^;

I'd say "not quite Dragonborn/Nerevarine/Shezzarine" levels, but still able to affect things- dudes becoming archmages, thieves guilds passing on, dark wizards making evil staves from the spines of stillborn children to lead an army of the dead, that sort of thing.

I personally prefer roleplays where the maximum power level of the player characters is equal to that of a semi-powerful NPC from the videogames, like Lydia or an Ordinator or Hieronymus Lex.

I think that's probably a bit low a ceiling for TES, if you're capping things at "just about the level of a competent guard". If Jauffre or the Grey Fox or something isn't within reason, there's probably a few too many things that would just... blow you over. Unless I'm misunderstanding.

But without the major compression the games experience, it seems like it would be a bit... painful to have the maximum level of ability one that would make dealing with a bandit camp a life-threatening struggle?

Nevertheless, since both opinions given seem to be in favour of not reaching single-handedly reshaping continental politics, how does this sound for a plot hook/starting point:
  • After the Dragon Break has resolved, the Empire has found itself pressured into accepting a Dragonborn emperor (details unforthcoming unless people specifically approach them, including what plots they specifically were involved in)
  • Whilst their focus is on opposing the Aldmeri Dominion, they've got the reformed Blades working in High Rock to try and reestablish ties diplomatically/through bribing them with problem solving.
  • The PC's are therefore a mix of official agents and local mercenaries.
  • Rough starting equivalence would be level 10 or something--enough to get steel/non-rubbish tier equipment, and accomplishment in a skill or two, in plain terms.
  • The level and equipment thing isn't exact. It's possible to have better or worse, but anything really noticeable is going to be a thread I will take far too much glee in using at some point. By which I mean: really expensive stuff or any lore item.

Much like Morrowind, this is a perfect excuse to run around establishing local cover, doing completely unrelated things, and totally ignoring the main quest until it's convenient.

Speaking of which, officially expressing interest as a potential member of the Blades, probably an Imperial with a mix of talky-ness, sword skills and some more stealthy and illusion-y stuff. Maybe a handler for some of the other PCs, storywise? Not sure.

@Raineh Daze Sounds totally reasonable and cool. Love the proposed plot. I am 100% interested.

Very much interested. Been waiting for something like this for a while xD. I've been having my fill of extended Elder Scrolls magic with EnaiSiaion's wonderful mods.

I think I'll make either a Restoration Mage (some sort of cleric?) or a politician type character who uses subterfuge and alchemy to bring himself to the top, with long-term plans on finding a form of immortality.

I'm going Destruction/Heavy Armor/Enchanting, with bits of Mysticism and Hand-To-Hand.

I'm not going to force people to write out skills specifically (nor drop back to Morrowind's highly specific armour and weapon categories), just give a general understanding.

Magic is definitely going back to its Morrowind categorisations, though, and armour would make it harder (in the more-magicka sense, not the random spell failure sense). And Birthsigns are back, because who didn't miss them?
