As Brutrumukk tears out the last of the brambles, he doesn't see something in time. And unfortunately, the rest of the party does not have high enough passive perceptions to notice.

As he finishes off the brambles, a male voice from above (where the basket is) calls out to Brutrumukk "Watch out! Behind you!"

Brutrumukk turns to see that his removal of the brambles woke up the two giant constrictor snakes, who are hissing at Brutrumukk angrily.

The bottom part of the tower, a little to the left, has the open door. It's on the opposite end of the tower where the basket is hanging. It's basically blocked by the snakes.
