BORN IN THE RING!

Fighting Spirit is a pro wrestling e-federation inspired by Japanese wrestling promotions such as NJPW and Pro Wrestling NOAH. Some of you may have participated in an e-fed before, but if not I'll give a basic overview since it works a bit differently from your typical play-by-post RP game.

Each player takes on the role of 1-2 wrestlers in the promotion, while another person takes on the role of the booker, or matchmaker. The booker sets the matches for the upcoming show, and the players then cut promos against one another to hype their respective matches and feuds. Storytelling is also a collaborative effort, with players contributing ideas to the booker in regards to the overall direction of their character from show to show. Promo RPs have a word limit (in our case 1000 words) and are judged to determine the winner of each match. Sometimes, depending on the storyline, the winner can be agreed upon by all parties involved ahead of time, in order to forward the narrative. Again, storytelling can be collaborative.

The Golden Rule

Be respectful of other players, and don't be a dick. It's fake fake fighting, so don't take things too seriously. If there are any issues, just send me a message. We want this to be a fun, positive experience for everybody.

The Spirit of Competition

Within the kayfabe world of Fighting Spirit, wrestlers are expected to adhere to a code of honor known as the Spirit of Competition. This code states that they must shake hands with their opponent as a sign of mutual respect and fully abide by the rules of the ring. Babyfaces will adhere to the Spirit of Competition, while heels, naturally, will not. In this case of an extremely personal grudge match between bitter rivals, the code will be "suspended"... which means it's anything goes!

Schedule & Structure

Our aim is to have a more casual schedule of events as compared to other e-feds. I know that I'm busy with my career, relationship, and everyday life stuff, so I think this fed is a great option for those in a similar situation. It would also be perfect for someone that's in another fed already, but wants to branch out a bit creatively. This could be a secondary promotion for you, similar to how many wrestlers in the United States will make occasional appearances for promotions in Japan. Since the fed is being hosted here on RP Guild, this schedule also makes it a great option for somebody involved in other RPs. Whether you're a die-hard fan of Japanese wrestling, or just a fan with a casual interest, there's a place for you in Fighting Spirit. Much like Japanese wrestling today, the presentation and booking style will still have a great deal of North American influence. Pro Wrestling is a universal language.

  • Players may control 1-3 wrestlers. They may be completely separate, occasional allies/partners, or a fully dedicated tag team/stable.
  • Shows will be bi-weekly during our major round robin tournament in the summer (similar to the G1), but monthly outside of that. When a show is announced, it will always include the exact date of the show, as well as the promo deadline.
  • Promos are due one week before the date of the show. This gives me time to construct the matches and post the results on time.
  • Please get your RPs posted by the deadline. It's a more casual schedule, but we still want to put out the shows in a consistent manner.
  • It is my commitment as the booker and match writer to get shows posted a week after RPs have closed.
  • For singles matches, each wrestler may post 1 RP with a 1000 word limit.
  • For tag team matches, each team member may post 1 RP with a 750 word limit, or the team may post 1 joint RP with a 1500 word limit.
  • I will pad out the roster with some NPCs when needed, but these wrestlers will not be pushed as champions. It's about the players.

What Makes a Good Promo?

  • A good RP is engaging, entertaining, and showcases your character. It also, importantly, helps to showcase your opponent's character.
Put over your opponent, don't bury them. If your bury your opponent and lose, you lost to a guy that sucks. If you bury your opponent and win, who cares? You beat a guy that sucks. A good promo builds up both wrestlers.
  • Promos are about promoting the match. Talk the readers into the building. Get people excited to see the match.
  • Keep your RP within the word limit. Quality over quantity.
  • Proofread for spelling, grammar, punctuation, etc. You can have a bunch of great ideas, but you need to communicate those ideas effectively. Make sure your promo has a solid structure and flow.
  • Keep things appropriate. Your RP can have some swearing and innuendoes sprinkled in, but in general it should resemble the type of content you would see on a modern, mainstream wrestling show.

Wrestler Applications

If you are interested in joining the Fighting Spirit roster, fill out a character sheet and post it in the OOC section. Once your wrestler is approved, you may add it to the Characters tab. Please be sure to follow the format provided to keep things organized, and have a look at the other wrestlers currently on the roster to make sure your signature/finishing moves do not overlap. For your pic base, try to use an actual wrestler (can be from any era).

Interested in potentially helping to get a women's division off the ground with a babyface character. I've never done an e-fed before but would be happy to learn!

@John Table Looks great buddy, Bandido is actually one of my favorite luchadores right now. That match with MJF a week ago was awesome. And I actually had a CAW tag team in an old wrestling videogame with two luchadores named Halcon & Sicario, with a similar kind of gimmick. I think it has a lot of potential.

My only suggestion would be to throw in either a sample promo or an entrance description if you have the time, to give us more of a vibe. Even just a small paragraph for some added flavor. But whenever you're ready, feel free to throw it into the Char section, welcome aboard!

Ring Name: Pegasus King
Nickname(s): Lord of the Skies; King of the Clouds;
Billed From: the clouds over North America
Height: 6' 2"
Weight: 245 lbs
Age: 34
Appearance/Pic Base: Pegasus Kid II (Finn Balor)

Text Color: Bold Red

Alignment: Babyface

Gimmick: He's the honorable, trustworthy, man's man that you'd want your daughter to date. King never cheats. He believes in a fair fight. And he would never hit a lady. He's a bit cocky on the top ropes and diving outside of the ring.

Sample Promo:

"The Fighting Spirit Pro-Wrestling world... is about to see why the King of the Clouds was too much for North America and Mexico. The Fighting Spirit Pro-Wrestlers... are about to see why the skies belong to me. When the Pegasus King comes from the top rope, the match is mine... One. Two... Three."

Entrance Theme: Led Zeppelin - Immigrant Song

Entrance Description (Optional):

The lights go out, and a horse cries out into the arena/venue, thunder and lightning effects strike down towards the entrance way. The music starts. Red and gold lights erupt as the Pegasus King leaps down from seemingly nowhere and/or the sky when the voice of Robert Plant begins to sing 'Aaaaa Aaaaaaah Aaaah'. He stands there breathing in the atmosphere for a moment in an open sleeveless red robe with golden wings designed into the back, only walking forward when actual words come from the mouth of the singer. "Come to the land of the ice and snow..."

He proceeds to the ring to slingshot over the ropes and runs to the opposite top turnbuckle to throw his arms out to the sides like wings before falling back and running to the diagonal opposite corner and doing the same pose. Afterwards he usually jumps slightly in place a bit somewhere in the ring to get the mind right before removing his robe and stretching his arms a bit.

Wrestling Style: Versatile. He can go with just about anybody.

Finishers -
Winged Victory (shooting star splash)
Broken Wing (sharpshooter)

Signature Moves -
Snap Supplex (dynamite fast)
Sling Blade (Rollins/Balor style)
Middle Rope Backflip Slam (the Hangman move Logan Paul used against Mysterio)
Dive Over the Ropes (sometimes its a corkscrew, usually basic)

Other Common Moves -
2nd rope precision elbow (Brett Hart style)
Knee Breaker
Spine Buster
Arm-drag Takedown
Vertical Supplex
Snap Leg Drop
Flying Elbow Strike
Hard Right Hands

@Omega Man Looks good, the only thing I'm concerned about is the name. I'm not sure that a direct homage to Wild Pegasus is the best idea, all things considered. Maybe instead of Pegasus you can use some other kind of creature as a basis for the name.

An idea that just popped into my head was basing your name off of the mythical "chimera." Something like The Chimera Kid, Kid Chimera, King Chimera, Chimera Mask, etc. A chimera is a hybrid of different creatures, and your wrestler is a hybrid of different styles: striking, technical wrestling, lucha libre. That sort of hybrid style is really what defined junior heavyweight wrestling in Japan in the 90s (your inspiration), and still does today. Just a suggestion, by no means do you have to use it though. Ultimately it's your call.

Also, for the "hometown" your wrestler is billed from, maybe instead of "The Clouds Above North America", since that's a bit of a mouthful, they could simply be billed from "The Heavens Above." It's cleaner, and feels more mythical.

I didn't know Wild Pegasus was also one of the aliases. When I saw that Finn Balor used the gimmick later on I just started looking at it as just another legacy. I used edited images of Balor under the mask [working on a few more if you need them] because there's maybe really one that I like of Benoit under the mask [when he had a belt]. I'm also really high on the Balor train ATM, was hoping he'd go babyface after his match with CM Punk and... well last night happened LOL. So if there's any question, the homage is probably more to Balor than anybody.

The Greek and Roman mythology around winged horses was just different enough from a character like the Patriot to still work for an American wrestler in another country. I used King in the name to shy away further from the older gimmick, and have him sporting red and gold rather than blue and silver. I'll probably have three or four more images of Balor in the mask, probably just recolored images of Balor with the mask tacked on top.

"The Heavens Above" also works!

@Omega Man Yeah Chris Benoit was the original Pegasus Kid, then when he was unmasked he became known as Wild Pegasus. When Balor first started in Japan he was under the mask as Pegasus Kid II, but it was only for a couple of months in 2006. It was meant as a continuation of the legacy of the original Pegasus Kid (similar to many other wrestlers like Tiger Mask and Mr. Wrestling). But it didn't really stick, and then the events of 2007 happened.

I suppose you can stick with the Pegasus moniker if you really want to, but if it's meant as more of an homage to Balor then I'd just recommend veering away from Pegasus entirely due to the additional baggage. Like I said it's your call at the end of the day though. Maybe since Balor is also known as the Demon King, you could play off of that and use "Angel" in your name. Would fit the vibe. Something simple like Angel King, Archangel, Icarus, Icarus Jr. All sound like luchadore names. Something like that would work with the "From the Heavens Above" hometown too.

Either way, the application is solid so feel free to add it to the Char section once you've settled on the name and picture.

Sounds good, I'll probably up the maximum characters per handler up to 3 anyways. If we want to get this off the ground, we'll need to give people opportunities to add to the roster. I'll throw in some more NPC wrestlers this weekend as well.

No worries at all @Shu, can definitely relate to dealing with a crazy snowstorm as a Canadian. Glad to hear that you've got power back and you're doing well now! Good luck dealing with the snow down there (and the ICE for that matter...)

Looking forward to seeing the CS, no rush!
