Greetings and Salutations, Guildmates.

As is bound to happen, we lost some players in our first couple months up and running. Now Twisted Redux is looking for a pair of literate, active players to join in our little game. The IC and OOC are both up and running, ready for fresh meat new players to join in! For your enjoyment, here's a copypasta from the original IntChk thread. (Work smart, not hard!)

Do you enjoy being mean to your characters? Does it amuse you to see them suffer? Are you looking for a long-term, advanced roleplay that gives free rein to your creativity and your dark side?

If you answered yes to all these questions, Twisted Redux might be the game for you!!

Twisted loosely meets the criteria for a Legacy RP. It ran for three years back on OldGuild, before finally guttering out in August of 2013. Pumirya and I had plans to re-launch the RP but then… The Tragedy struck and the Guild was gone.

But the Guild came back. And now Twisted is back, too!

This is not a continuation of the original Twisted game. This is Twisted Redux: which is Twisted with some improvements. Our beloved founder, Petal Rose, who has been gone from the Guild for many years now, gave us an amazing concept and setting. She hadn’t really designed Twisted with a coherent ending to the roleplay, but the players who joined throughout the years saw its potential. It was their dedication and creativity which kept Twisted going for so long. Here on Newguild, I’ve decided to run Twisted Redux. We are re-starting from the same beginning point, but this time there’s a distinct storyline and an endgame. I’ve filled in as many of the plotholes as I possibly could (and there were a lot of them).

Twisted Redux is an asylum roleplay, but it’s not like your usual asylum game. All of our patients at Osmond’s Institute are supernatural: they’re werewolves and dinosaurs, aliens and zombies, pyrokinetics and angels. They have mental illnesses from all points in the spectrum of sickness, and can originate from literally any point in time and space. We’ve got a sketchy headman at the wheel, some “treatments and therapies” which are completely brutal, and a couple of nurses who may or may not enjoy the varied applications of torture.

And we're accepting two new patients.

Yeah, you heard me - I only need two. In the event that more than two people are interested, we'll have a best-submission acceptance process. I would like to have the new players selected and their sheets finalized/approved no more than two weeks from today.

In an effort to keep our OOC as tidy as possible, all new talents are asked to post only to this recruiting thread until they are accepted into the roleplay. Of course, you are welcome and encouraged to read through both our threads.

If you don't want to post here, feel free to PM me! Thanks for reading! :D

Hello, Maiden.

Please excuse any mistakes in the following message, for it was written on my phone.

We meet again, fair maiden XD In the event that you do not remember me, I am the same Headphones as the one from the old guild, the person whose sinful "Dance of Light and Shadow" role-play vanished into infinity.

The setting of the story you have presented before us today has piqued my interest. If I may be so honest to point out, I have known about "Twisted Redux" for some time, because of El_Tigre, one of your role-players, and did take the liberty of reading the first page of the IC. Indeed, the cast is rather colourful and I did intend to message you, in order to ask if there was a free spot for a new addition, however, due to personal reasons, I could not give enough time to the virtual world. With all of my matters now settled, I indend to submit an application sometime this week or at the beginning of the next. I intend to create a male character diagnosed with Multiple Personality Disorder (Dissociative Identity Disorder) and a couple of other conditions. Hopefully, he shall be acceptably insane =3

Hiiiiiiiii~~!!

~BOING!!!~ Oh this sounds rather cooool!! YAYS!! ^-^! K, soooooooo first off, I answered no to 2 outta 3 of those questions up^ there. Like I dun like to be mean to muh charries, I dun find it amusing to see muh charrie suffer, BUT!! This bunny is looking for a long-term, advanced roleplay that gives free rein to muh creativity and... yush, sure, muh 'dark side' too. I'm actually more bonkers-like than dark! ;D

Right. So I do have a charrie that dint get as far as I wanted her to go. And since this RP is a 'redux' then I will redux her tooooo~~^-^! She is an angel! Awwww... But not just any angel! Nupe! She rose to become an ArchAngel! But for her redux, she is having some... wulp, she's been eating her enemies hearts and brains 'cuz she just found out that angels do NOT have souls and she thinks that doing such nasty things will grow some kind of soul in her too. Like ArchAngels can be brutal and nasty; they're generals of heavenly armies afterall, but this is waaaaaay toooooo much. So her ArchAngel bros love her and did like an intervention and had her committed to the Osmond Institute.

So, yeah, there's muh concept. ^^

K, so like I've only read the first page of OOC so far and checked out the other charries. And so like, if ya think muh concept is up to snuffs then we can discuss more and I'll start up reading the IC, k? Right. ~Later~~!! ;D

Dang a lot of the characters have schizophrenia. And you even have someone with body dismorphia (one part of my character idea's instability), mmmhmm. This sounds pretty cool, I'm reading up on the characters at the moment, but can have a CS soonish if there's still room (seeing as two other people have already responded).

@ Headphones: Of course I remember you! And that's why I was so glad to see El_Tigre applying for Twisted when it went up! We do currently have one patient who has DID (She's so new I haven't even added her to the OOC yet, bad GM!) but I'm totally okay with multiple characters having the same mental illness. As long as you can have a CS for me within the next 13 days, and can post no more than once every two weeks thereafter, we'll be all gravy!

@ Bunnita: Hi there! I'm glad to see your enthusiasm, but I want to caution you about something: Twisted is not for the faint of heart. Your character will be tortured, beaten, drugged, possibly whipped, crucified, etc. (All those things happened to my characters in the last run of this RP.) If dark themes and graphic violence are not things you enjoy, you probably will not have fun at Osmond's. Our current OOC is still in a bit of a honeymoon period, I've not yet sent the patients to 'therapy'. If you'd like to get a better idea of what Twisted is all about, the Wayback Machine still has our dear old thread's first few pages archived, and you can check it out right here. If you're still interested, by all means make a sheet for me!

@ Kiddo: Yes, we do have a lot of Schizophrenics. I couldn't say why, except that maybe it's one of the few mental illnesses that everybody has heard of. I think that our two most common mental illnesses, in fact, are Schizophrenia and DID/Multiple Personality Disorder, with PTSD a close third. One of my PC patients, Cadie, has a really neat combination of Impulse Control Disorder and Conversion Disorder. When I write characters for Twisted, I usually choose their mental illness first and foremost, then build the rest of them around that. I use this list to find a suitable sickness. Also, the girl with Body Dismorphia is one who has left the game, and I just haven't changed the OOC post yet. (Again, bad GM!) As I told Headphones, I'm not so worried about the patients all having different mental illnesses as long as the illness is believable for the character's history.

As far as closing the Recruiting Thread... well, I am only looking for two new players, but I'll take all the sheets I can get. I don't want any of you to take this personally, it's something I say based on my past experiences, but not everyone who expresses interest will wind up turning in a finished character sheet. Best submission process just means that I will make my choice of new players based strictly on the awesomeness of their CS and not on a first-come, first-served basis. (I'm looking for originality of species, strength of concept and concept execution, plus overall playability and entertainment value of the character.) So all of you -and anyone else passing through who's interested- are welcome to submit a CS.

(And I should probably add the CS Skeleton to the first post. I'm just had a really off day yesterday, didn't I? LoL!)

Is it really bad that I just thought of the evil rabbit from Monty Python's Quest for the holy grail? It/he/she is the sort of adorable that's also sinister.

And I just noticed that your Oldguild username was Mr.Mauve... is your new one a nod to the Bride? You a Tarantino fan?

Nope, doesn't ring a bell!

Also, that thing's not the evil rabbit from Monty Python. Also, not necessarily sinister, just... troubled. And way too powerful for that to be okay.

BUT IT IS A BUNNY I BET THAT'S A FIRST

No Tarantino, huh? I thought that because in his movie Reservoir Dogs, all the criminals are called things like Mr. White, Mr. Brown, Mr. Pink, etc, to avoid using their real names. And in Kill Bill, the Bride's real name is Beatrix Kiddo. So I just thought you might like Tarantino flicks. I do... obviously. XD

The bunny is definitely a first, and I gotta say I like it. And it's not just anybunny, it's a winged, fanged, bunny of great power. I'm excited to see this CS.

Well, that thread is close to 200 pages long, but it did go on for more than three years, so that's to be expected. I don't know that this version will run quite that long, there's potential for a second story arc after the first, but that's all in the distant future. I can't say I'm happy to see that you're not so interested in joining us anymore, but I am at least grateful that you'e making an informed decision instead of rushing in. Lurk all you want. I figured you'd like the bunny.

Name: Kevin D’Rockitto

Species: Victini
Victini is the result of a last-ditch genetic experiment by the greatest legendary and human minds during the final months of the Great Exarch War. Designed to provide the power and guidance for a worldship single-handedly, Victini was blessed with boundless energy provided by a highly-efficient self-sustaining generator which is the closest “natural” thing to a fision reactor that could be imagined, helped along by a little bit of what the less-technically-minded wouldn’t mind calling “magic”.

Gender: Ungendered (originally male)
Age: 18

Mental Illness:

From the file compiled before Kevin was transferred:
PTSD: Almost all of Kevin’s other issues stem from the trauma he experienced during the Great Exarch War. His triggers are multiple and result in unreasonably-powerful responses. Due to the intensity of these outbursts and the numerous quality of his triggers, he’s been deemed dangerous to himself and to others. Known triggers include:
Being stared at for too long
Multiple people saying the same thing at the same time, be this chanting or singing or entirely coincidental
Whispering in his ears
Using the pronoun “we” to refer to a single entity (please keep him away from self-aware multiple-person systems)

Sleep disorders: Kevin suffers from night terrors, rapid eye movement sleep behavior disorder, and sleep paralysis. He is at his most dangerous and least predictable while asleep or falling asleep; induction of sleep in a controlled environment is recommended.

Depersonalization disorder: Likely due to the relatively-recent transference of Kevin’s consciousness to the Victini chassis from his previous human body, Kevin is often struck with depression and has reported several instances of out-of-body experiences on a nearly-daily basis. The lengendaries figure that he’ll get over it eventually, but decided to report it anyway.

Drug abuse: Due to his fear of sleeping, Kevin has taken to preemptive use of Awakening to prevent himself from losing consciousness. As he goes longer and longer without sleep, he must take it more often, and blood tests show high levels of blood toxicity due to this. It is also possible that his fight to stave off sleep is the cause of his sleep paralysis, though there is no evidence to suggest that were he to stop using it his night terrors would leave him.

At the bottom have been added:
Antisocial personality disorder: Has a remarkable disregard for personal space, often invading others’ quarters. Patient has tendency to take any unlocked door as an invitation to enter. Suggestions that this is not okay behavior have not yet resulted in a deviation for the better. Patient interrupts constantly.

Kleptomania? Compulsive Hoarding? An assortment of objects, including a few reported stolen, have been found, repeatedly (even after giving them back) in a neat pile in Kevin’s room. Includes any writing utensils given to it, and anything that is not glued down. Keep away from those who require specific objects for stability: remember to note on the whiteboard to check for stolen items in its room.

Appearance:

Kevin is an odd-looking creature. The first way that you would describe him would be as a rabbit or bunny, but most rabbits don’t have wings instead of a tail, or odd red markings up their ears and on their extremities to contrast the rest of their pure-white fur, or very large fangs protruding down to about the level of their chin. Kevin does.

He’s not much larger than a large rabbit: about one foot tall when standing bipedal, extended about half a foot if you take his ears into account at full height. His wings span about one foot as well, certainly not long enough to actually be of any use, even given that the creature is much lighter than one might imagine just from glancing at him.

When in flight, Kevin supplements this appearance with wing extensions and an odd sort of tail made of controlled fire. He’s explained that this is purely cosmetic, as he achieves flight through psychic locomotion, but doesn’t like to “look like (he’s) being dragged about by the seat of (his) hypothetical pants”.

History:

“…making him Champion of five regions. What is next for Kevin D’Rockitto?” What, indeed. The seventeen-year-old switched off the radio and glanced around the table at the impatient faces of the two legendaries that were his guests.

“So, yeah, why did you want to hear that?”

“We didn’t, I asked for your life story.” The small pink cat creature’s psychic voice didn’t sound particularly thrilled about having had to listen to a news report instead of getting the message right from the horse’s mouth, given that said horse was right there.

“And that described it much more thoroughly than I possibly could have. I go off on tangents.”

“Just the basic rundown would have worked, all you had to say was ‘Hi, I’m Kevin, my dad owns Team Rocket, I’ve had nothing better to do than run around and fight crime and beat up trainers for the past five years and now I’m still the undefeated champion of five regions!’ But it’s a digression, anyway. We’re here because… we need your race’s help. Since you’re their Champion, it only makes sense to come to you. War is coming.”

“What do you MEAN you’re impeaching me?” Kevin shoved his face inches away from his accuser’s own, daring him with his eyes to say it again.

“I mean exactly what I said, Champion. You’re far too biased in favor of the Pokemon; we need someone who will think about our interests to represent us.”

“And you think YOU’RE the one to do it, huh?” Kevin backed away, wiping the back of his hand across his mouth to wipe the angry spittle away before turning back on the taller man. “You don’t even know what the heck we’re facing out there! This isn’t some game, this isn’t politics! The Exarchs are coming, and they are going to KILL YOU if don’t get your stupid head out of the sand and realize that this is literally the end of the world.”

“I assure you, my head is not in the sand. And it’s not the end of the world, my corporation can provide the worldships necessary to defend us from your Exarchs… but not if you’re just going to throw them away like you’re planning.” Edward managed to stay remarkably calm given who he was facing, and the rest of the chamber remained silent as they watched the spectacle, the volcano raging against the steady sea.

“If… IF. You can’t see past your own SPECTACLES and you think you have the vision to know what can and can’t protect us from the Exarchs. HAVE YOU LOOKED OUTSIDE RECENTLY? Do you not see the mess that we’re in? Earth IS NOT SAFE. The ONLY way we’re going to scrape out of this with even a FRACTION of the human population alive is if we join the legendaries in fighting these things. You’d have us sit here twiddling our thumbs just WAITING for them to break through our best chance at defense, refusing to offer any aid at all, and then what? You think that your stupid ships will be better capable to defeat them without the legendaries’ support?”

“Yes.”

Kevin stared dumbfounded for a moment, and then shook his head, determined to go on. “And what if they can? You’re just letting the Pokemon die out there instead of turning the tide of the battle?”

“See, you’re thinking more of them than you’re thinking of our race. Hence I propose a vote to have you removed from your position.”

Kevin glanced around the auditorium in disbelief. “Four months. It only took you four months to buy enough votes.” He glared across at Edward, who had finally broken his icy emotionless façade to smile unpleasantly. “Well maybe I’m biased toward Pokemon because they’re not all !#$% IDIOTS!” He saw the few winces that he managed to provoke, but already knew how this was going to go down. “Clarence, take us out, we’re done here.” The Abra slowly nodded, and the two disappeared from the room as the results flashed up on the board: 112 for, 5 against.

“It’s either that or cryogenic freeze. At least this way you can still help.” Kevin rubbed his eyes wearily, staring down at the paperwork in front of him. Denied a spot on every worldship crew, of course. And now here he was, offered the same options that everyone else was, as if he hadn’t helped design the freaking things.

“Not even an engineering position?” She shook her head. “Then… I guess I have a phone call to make.”

Kevin left the recruitment office as the next person in the very long line made his way in. He flipped open the cell phone and sighed heavily again, dialing in a number that he hadn’t input in a long time. Hopefully he would pick up this time. He held the plastic thing against his ear and listened to the dialtone, his face growing less hopeful with each ring until it was finally interrupted with a click. “Hello?”

“Hey, Alvin… we need to talk about Project Victini.”

“… Are you sure? We don’t even know if it will work.” The pink cat looked across at him, seemingly ages older and more rundown than he’d seen him just eight months ago.

“Everyone says the science checks out. And at least this way I can still make a difference.” The cat continued looking at him, but underneath the expression of defeat found only determination and reasonable fear; Kevin wasn’t going to change his mind.

“Then let’s get to work. Ah, and you won’t,” he pointed at the metal band hidden behind Kevin’s ears and hair, “be needing that anymore.”

“Worldship Victini, in position.” It still felt weird to say, still felt strange to know that he was literally the only thing supporting the lives of the tens of thousands manning the flying behemoth that they called a worldship. It took three months to retrofit it, but here they were, deep in outer space, in formation with the twenty other ships, flying on nothing but the science and magic that they’d managed to stuff into the little body that he’d offered his consciousness to control. And now he was a Pokemon, some weird rabbit thing with wings sprouting from his butt. Nope, nope, don’t think about that. There were bigger things happening than his personal saga.

“About time, Victini.” He grimaced as Edward’s voice came to him through the comm link that he was psychically linked to. Edward, leading the charge against the Exarchs.

That should have been him… but it didn’t matter. At least Edward had eventually chosen Kevin’s plan instead of sticking to his own idiotic one. Politics.

“We’ve got contact!” Something wisped through the rip in the universe, and for a revolting second swirled about against the current of matter that was being pulled into the hole, before turning back in. Then there were a dozen of them, clear to see from the monitors that he could directly contact in a way that pure vision could never have given him. Then hundreds… they were swelling out of the hole now, a thousand strong ethereal souls bulging and writhing about as their conglomerate tried to squeeze through the tear in space. Something about it, the same way that it felt when watching those sickly ink-like beings back planetside, made him want to turn away in disgust and stop watching. He closed his eyes for a few moments, letting the feeling evaporate, but opened them again to resume his vigilance: the cameras inside the bridge told him that not everyone was able to watch even now, and he’d have to take over their slack. He couldn’t look away no matter how much he wanted to, not when a moment could spell the end of them. “Hold your fire! We’re just here to negotiate.”

Negotiate? Kevin could hear the radio squabble that signaled everyone’s confusion, felt it himself. Negotiate with these deadly creatures who wanted no more than to destroy everything?

But no one was moving to disobey yet, and so they let the thing pour from its crack, growing in size until it dwarfed their own ships. He looked on steadfastly, feeling the pressure of the thing, its horrible millions of voices imploring him to let the ship just die where it was, forcing him to curl up in some sort of fetal position of defeat, to accept their doom and just give up. It was a psionic attack unlike he’d ever felt before, but with determination he grit his new teeth together and slammed the door on those unwanted visitors. He could handle this, the whole ship depended on him.

But then they came through the radio. All the ships, the whole frequency range, the cameras from inside the ship’s hull, all the channels became flooded with it. What he thought he’d escaped was back, and as quickly as he could shut off communication channels, it was flooding new parts of the hardware until he had to just turn off the whole ships’ speakers. So much for any tactics they’d been planning on relaying over radio.

Then he felt the first shock and looked up at the thing dashed against Edward’s ship, it having only just raised shields soon enough to stop itself from being scattered amongst the stars as hurtling debris. Flashes from the ships around him signaled the launch of the first volley of anti-matter torpedoes, and he fed energy into the particle cannon to add his ship’s unique artillery to the mix. The battle was on.

“You rewrote the fundamental laws of the universe, but you can’t put me back in my body.” Kevin looked as skeptical as a rabbit thing could, but the new Elder just shook his head.

“I’m sorry, Kevin, but I suppose you’re stuck as a legendary; it’s not…”

“…safe to keep him around until he gets himself under control. You do that, and something bad is going to happen; he hasn’t even grown into his powers, and already look at the mess he’s making of things! And no, outcasting him to space isn’t going to solve anything. He needs professional help.” The Celebi stared defiantly at the Elder until he shrugged.

“Are you suggesting Osmund’s?” Bit didn’t seem particularly impressed with the idea, but nor did he seem keen to disregard Alvin’s advice.

“Trust me, it’s for the best. Better that than he blows up that whole system where he’s locked himself away… which he is going to do if nothing is done about it.” Bit sighed, letting something other than robotic reasoning show on her visage, instead showing off just how little she wanted that for their little experiment. Alvin searched back in his memory to try to get what he was feeling, and finally finding it, scrunched up his face in sympathy. “Look, I know it’s our fault, but it’s what needs to be done. Osmund’s can’t be that bad.”

“Yes, fine, I’ll set it up. I’m sure you have better things to do?” Alvin nodded emphatically, and quickly flew off to find a pool somewhere. He tried to ignore the feeling of guilt that was trying hard to make him go back and rescind his advice.

Because yes, he was well aware that Osmund was that bad.

Personality:

Kevin isn’t in Osmund’s because of anything that he did wrong. Coincidence just conspired against him, and now he’s a broken tool with too much power. So he’s not what you might expect of a typical patient in an insane asylum for berserk supers: he doesn’t have particularly-troublesome anger problems, there’s no rap sheet detailing hundreds of murders, and he’s all-around pretty normal! Well, as normal as someone with so many disorders can be…

Kevin’s one of those people who can’t stand to do nothing. Heck, when he was twelve he decided to go on a big adventure to defeat some make believe bad guys and become the champion of his region: and he did it! But then, instead of admitting “Well alright, that’s enough of that!” he went on to do it in four more regions! And then only stopped because the whole gym system was shut down when the infected started rampaging.

So obviously, not only does he need to keep busy, but if he does something, he’s going to do it until it’s done and done. Kevin’s not one of those people to half-bake something and call it a day, be that something a pie or be it saving the world or be it making a friend.

And when faced with the Trolley Dilemma, Kevin always insists that he’d save all six people.

Not that Kevin’s a shining example of all that’s right in the world. No, even he has his personality issues: some are described as disorders, but others are less well-defined. He takes failure too hard, and he cares a bit too much what others think of him. He’s likely to get angry if he thinks people are being stupid, and given how opinionated he is, he tends to think that a lot. At least he doesn’t normally have trouble controlling his anger and will mostly resort to spitting at you and yelling loudly.

But Kevin’s mostly a decent guy.

Sexual Orientation: Whatever the word would be for a non-gendered rabbit-like species that is attracted to female humans.

Fears:

Hypnophobia: As a sufferer of both night terrors and sleep paralysis, Kevin dreads sleep and has taken to extreme measures to avoid it.

Scopophobia: Kevin has a specific subset of this fear: he only has trouble if one stares at him in an unblinking manner for too long.

The fear of dripping: Whether it’s water or (even worse if it’s) something oil-like, Kevin can’t stand to be near something that’s dripping. A trigger for his PTSD.

Capabilities:

Per design, Kevin has an “endless” supply of energy, which he can easily (with just the touch of a hand and some application of will) transfer to others, whether they be living or specially-designed machinery. This energy accelerates healing in biological recipients as well as making them feel energized and banishing physical fatigue. It is unknown if Kevin actually has a maximum output, but if it exists, it’s unreasonably high: controlling and powering all of the systems on a worldship, including the energy weapons and shields, for days on end didn’t tap out his power, so it’s unlikely that anything will. Due to the experimental nature of the Victini design, no one knows what long-term effect this has, either, though the minds involved did shrug and say “Prolly bad” (in more scientific terms, of course) and the resident time traveler placed a hand on Kevin’s shoulder and said “Don’t overdo it.” Whatever that means.

His main form of offense seems to be the release of large sums of this energy, most-often in non-directed radial blasts, which cause an increase in the energy of the particles of those things surrounding him. While this might mean only an uncomfortable increase in temperature, it could also mean nearly-instantaneous disintegration as everything’s particles become excited to the point of becoming unglued.

Due to being a fire type and psychic type Pokemon, Kevin has access to “superhuman” powers in these fields, though nothing particularly amazing for other Pokemon of those types or even on par with the other legendaries. The red parts of Kevin’s fur can burst into flame, and he can ignite his own breath somewhat like a flamethrower. His psychic powers extend to powerful telepathy and telekinesis, strong enough to allow him to communicate and to float about and toss things at people and open door knobs.

The Victini design, borrowing from the high mental capacities of the legendaries who designed it, provides Kevin with, as he describes it “a faster processor.” He can slow down and speed up his perception of time much as one can change the clock on a PC’s processing unit, up to a ceiling and down to a floor. This has no effect on other’s perception of time and cannot allow him to undo anything from a previous time, but is helpful for those split-second moments when a lot must be processed or those dull hours when he’s sitting not sleeping while everyone else is enjoying their particular brand of nightmare.

The design also shares some other traits with the other legendaries, including extreme longevity (hypothetically, as no one is quiet sure how much expending so much energy will reduce Kevin's life span), the ability to survive in extremely-inhospitable environments (Kevin banished himself to the far reaches of outer space after his first outburst), the ability to become invisible, the ability to teleport (though this generally takes a long while to perfect, and Kevin [though he has been learning abnormally quickly, which is largely attributed to his previous experience with telepathy and with his nearly constant exposure to psychic Pokemon for a third of his life] is not to the point where he trusts his own abilities in this regard. He's measured his margin of error at an unacceptable 3-mile diameter, which is fine if you're just teleporting around outerspace, but not so fine if you're trying to target a room in a specific building, or something), and the ability to generate energy shields.

Miscellaneous:

A Masterball was sent with Kevin, and has been required a few times to stop his rampages. It places him instantly in temporary stasis which is broken only upon external release, and has allowed his caretakers to safely bring him to places where his tantrums will cause less damage (or to transport him where he does not wish to go when he’s being ornery).

None of the designs to interface with Kevin’s energy-granting ability were passed along to the Asylum. Any inquiry into maybe getting some of the tech would result in a terse “No.”

OOC Notes:

Full disclosure: many of the characters and situations described in this bio are from this story. It's fantastic, you should go check it out. You won't find Victini mentioned anywhere or anyone named Kevin (if I remember correctly), but the whole series is still worth the read.

Trying my hand at this...

Name: Ryn

Species: Hyper-butterfly

Gender: Identifies as female

Age: 31

Mental Illness: Narcissistic personality disorder, paranoia

Appearance: Ryn appears as a woman in her twenties of average height with completely symmetrical features. She is lightly and evenly tanned with waist-length brown hair and electric blue eyes. Her body is extremely lean with very well-defined muscles. She has long arms and legs, and her fingers and toes appear slender and delicately formed. While the rest of her body may undergo slight alterations from day to day, her face never changes; she appears proudest of her high cheekbones and heart-shaped lips. The energy fields which are her true form extend from her back and span two metres in total. They have no fixed shape, but she is fond of forming them into multiple pairs of angel wings. They change colour frequently.

History: Ryn's homeworld was extremely advanced, with humans colonising several planets in the galaxy. She was born on one of the more remote worlds as the only child of parents who worked in the mines. Her childhood was relatively uneventful, with most of her time being spent in the community education centre with other children her age. She showed talent in, if not making friends, at least gathering followers. She led her group in bullying the other children but stopped when she realised that none of them were interesting enough to be worth her time and attention. She transformed when she was 18 and found work as a smuggler. She worked her way up the ranks quickly but it was not enough for her. She killed her boss when she was 21 and stole his ship, becoming a mercenary instead and building up her own crew. Her recklessness and delusions of grandeur grew over time, but not enough to affect her ability to complete jobs. Rumours of her exploits eventually reached the galactic government, which sent a hyper-butterfly officer to investigate.

As it turned out, he was the only one who ever came close to capturing her several times. His name was Bob and he had chosen an insectoid form for himself, compound eyes and all. He said that having four arms was convenient, but it gradually became clear that he shared her distaste for the ordinary and thirst for adventure. Needless to say, she was intrigued. This turned out to be her undoing, as he was able to catch her off-guard and sedate her in their last confrontation. His orders were to take her to government headquarters to be imprisoned, but he placed some blocks on her powers and brought her to Osmond's Institute instead.

Personality: Ryn enjoys showing off and proving her superiority over others, feeling that ordinary people are beneath her. She believes that everyone should admire her, but if not, their fear and cautious respect will suffice. She is scornful of those who dislike her and treat her with perceived disrespect, and will retaliate by any means within her power. Indifference frustrates her, and she will be driven to make them either admire or fear her. She can be surprisingly considerate to people who flatter or respect her, but will become suspicious of their motives and turn vindictive quickly.

Sexual Orientation: Heterosexual

Fears: Being outsmarted and humiliated, losing to others.

Capabilities:

-Biological manipulation: Ryn can control any biological matter in the vicinity of her "wings". This is currently limited to affecting herself. Flesh and muscle can be formed quickly, but materials like bone or teeth take longer and are usually taken from elsewhere in her body. Ryn mostly uses this to keep her body in good condition and occasionally make some unsettling modifications (like tiny mouths on her fingertips). She needs to understand how any modifications would work before carrying them out. For example, if she wanted to eat through mouths on her hands, she would need to design a way for them to digest food and release the nutrients into her body.

-Controlling intermolecular bonds: Due to mental blocks placed by Bob, this is limited to altering phase states of various substances. While she can flash boil water and create dry ice, she cannot melt metal or liquidise other gases in air.

Miscellaneous: She keeps herself meticulously clean and well-groomed. Threatening to move her to a room without a shower is a good way to get her to cooperate, as are rewards of hair conditioner and shampoo.

OOC Notes: Ryn does not think of herself as a hyper-butterfly, but as a human with extraordinary powers. Since everyone in the institute has powers, she would not automatically look down on anyone there. However, this will also make her even more keen to prove herself. If a confrontation occurs, she will not back down easily.

@ Ethan: Hi there! Thanks for your interest, there's no rush on the sheet, just post it when it's ready!

@ Kiddo: I always like to start with bad news, so that I can give good news second and end on a positive note.

So, bad news. First and foremost, Kevin can't be a drug addict in Osmond's. The staff certainly won't give him any of this Awakening stuff, especially since he seems to like it so much. Of course, none of the other patients sell it, either. That will have to be removed. I would suggest you add that to his history, perhaps his drug abuse was part of what made him break down. And speaking of the history... I have mixed feelings about that. Because you were honest about the source of your inspiration, I'm inclined to believe that you at least wrote your own version of the main character from the story, and I also recognize that anything you write with him in our thread will be your own original material.

One final thing on the 'cons' list is that he's a Legendary level. I've never played or watched Pokemon, (Did you just gasp in abject terror?) but your capabilities section alone tells me he can't go running around without any chains on. As a result, this deceptively small fellow will have to wear a limiter collar. I will have to do a little research to what voltage/wattage/whatever would be a reasonable limit. I'll get back to you on that.

On to the good news! So he's not actually a death bunny. He's a lab-created(?) Legendary Pokemon with a madman's soul trapped in his tiny lil fluffly lil body. I want to snuggle him but I feel like that would somehow be dirty. I am thinking of one character we have playing now, El_Tigre's Dante, who is a magician. I know you know what I'm thinking. At least, you should know. And the character's reactions to him are going to be priceless. One of mine most especially. Plus, I can see a future for him in the long term plot that I can't discuss right now. ;) I like it when I see potential.

Also, quit stalkin' me. As you see, I've got a lot to read and write. :P

@ nonsequitur: Ryn is very well done! I adore the Narcissistic Personality Disorder, I've always wanted to see someone play that. I can't go back to check the old threads, but if you're not the first you're one of the very few who's ever tried it. She's also powerful but not in an especially destructive sort of way, which I find quite refreshing. But the mouths on her fingers are creepy as fuck to envision in my head. Again, well done. You made me shudder. Also, since she sort of looks like an angel, I bet a lot of the other patients will assume she's more powerful than she really is. I don't really see any edits that need to be made... but it couldn't hurt your case if you fleshed out the history just a little. You say her childhood was uneventful... did she have any siblings? Were they close or did they fight alot? What about the guy who hunted and caught her? What's his name? Is he totally dreamy? XD

So, I have two CS posted, and two more who have expressed interest. The third CS will make it a best submission process, which is exactly what it sounds like. Anyone who wishes to apply is still more than welcome to write a character sheet. If I get more than two, I will simply have to face the sad choice on my hands. Judging by what I've seen so far, you guys won't make it easy on me. I might even cave and take three, depending on what else gets turned in before the close. ;)

Alrighty, so:

I planned on having Kevin inconveniently plopped down right in the middle of the day, so I'd play him as soon as he arrives at the Institution. With that in mind, the Mental Illnesses section is split into two parts: the first being the reasons that he's being indited, and the second portion being things that I want everyone to know about ahead of time so that they can help me with them (and so that when I make them happen in-game people aren't like "NO YOU CAN'T STEAL MAH STUFF" after the fact since I've given people fair warning).

The drug abuse thing was something that I expected Osmond's would cut him from cold turkey very early on (especially since Awakening wouldn't really be the sort of drug that they're likely to have on hand, it sounds like). I wanted to play through his withdrawal symptoms and use that as a segway into introducing the Institution to how disastrous his freakouts can be. Given all that, do you still want me to move it to the Miscellaneous or OOC section (with the Antisocial and hoarding diagnoses if you want me to move those)?

Maybe I didn't introduce my source material properly. Kevin is a character completely unmentioned in the source; the protagonist is Alvin (among others) and Kevin is entirely a fan character of my own (yes, a fan character for a fan fiction ^.^). I'm only stealing the ideas for the Great Exarch War and the characters related to that (the Elders, Bit, Alvin, Edward, etc.)

I was planning on making him a bit of a passive troublemaker with the power level. He's not going to actively try to be trouble, at least in the beginning, so I figured it would be pleasant for him to cause issues just with his particular mix of powers. I figure it would take a while for them to develop the proper technology to limit his energy output, though I expect that they probably already have heat-resistant psychic inhibitors and general tools for defending against rowdy pyrotechnics (though it will be interesting to see how much they want to inhibit his psychic powers, since he's 1) not very good with them yet and 2) needs them for basic things like handling doors, moving around reliably, and communicating).

I provided a Masterball to keep him in since I understand that his power is awfully high and logically they probably have somewhere where they can deal with radioactive-like threats, and being able to transfer him to such an area so he can deal with his tantrum at any moment provides you with a way of logically limiting the amount of damage that he can do. I figure that it's a nice compromise in allowing me to keep him true to the source material while also allowing you to say when enough is enough.

I'd like, if possible, to be allowed to keep his energy power uninhibited. Firstly because I can't think of any way that works logically that it could be, and secondly because it's just so useful. I figured on this character before reading all of the CSes, but imagine how well he meshes with the existing characters: he could save Cadence from the horrors of a G tube (and from starving to death) while also possibly accelerating her psychic growth, he could provide our Ragdoll with some peace of mind, etc. etc. Denying the nurses a method of inhibiting his power at least in the beginning would allow them to see just how useful it could be, and maybe make them look for a different way of dealing with his issues.

Glad you like his uniqueness. I do look forward to character reactions to him: he seems to be in a position where he can slip between the social barriers of a lot of the characters and make meaningful relationships with them easier than most other characters.

SO DOES THAT WORK FOR YOU? :D

Edit: Oh I don't think I mentioned that yes, my internal picture of him does have him lugging around some sort of inhibiting device that's connected to him with a bunch of those sensor pad things, the whole thing being about as large as he is. JUST BECAUSE IT WOULD BE SO SAD and that's the point yes? :D
So I'm totally fine with inhibitors if you insist upon them :P

I am currently working hard at my Character Sheet! I would have it in already, but I had unexpected stuff come up today, so I'm trying to get it done now. I know you said take your time, but I hate setting a time and not meeting that. Don't worry though, the character is very profound in my head and so even as I throw this together rather quickly, I have a clear vision of what I'm after! It's rather exciting, actually!
