A Nuclear Spring. Oh god how cool would that be?Sure, everything is dry and desilated, but I would think it be cool if there was a state where the bombs turned everything nature-y into something that tries to kill you.

Like the crap that happened in Vault 22? That could be fun.

Well, it seems almost cliche, but it would be pretty poetic to have that happen in The Nature State. How does Arkansas sound?

Would be fun to be so close to the Midwestern BOS chapter as well.

Isn't it canon that on Harold's trek across America to DC he left in his wake a forest of fast-growing and hardy trees capable of resisting radiation? Maybe we could do something with that?
Lucian said Thanks for the update. I think I'll probably just finish up the character sheet with my character in New Reno.

Cool, maybe we could know each other? Your choice.
Lucian said I was considering doing that merely because of the way they were presented. Probably will, now that you've mentioned it.

The beginning of a harrowing quest.

We so could. Maybe swap Arkansas out for another state on the green line?

My character is going to be a Paladin Lord- an agent working on an intelligence-gathering mission for The Brotherhood. He looks down on most Tribals, which would make their knowing each other extremely entertaining. If I get accepted when I finish him up, I'm game. Shoot me a PM and we can discuss details.

EDIT: On that note, I'm done with my CS for now. Planning on editing it a bit, but I got the generally important stuff down.

I could've done worse, it could've been a pun about his penis or something, but I like to think I have some standards.

An argument could be made that over two-hundred years would be enough time for at least the hardier trees to come back. Most of the very deadly radiation tends to decay rather quickly.

Also, as I mentioned earlier, Harold's little paradise nook reminded me an awful lot of Vault 22. I make a policy of not trusting plants for any longer than it takes them to burn to cinders.

Nuclear defense is pretty tricky, but in less ways than you'd expect. The intense shit gets washed out by the rain within the first couple of weeks, and you can hang out outside in your MOPP suits after that happens and start like, pressurewashing the ground to get everything else out. I don't remember an exact procedure, but I can research.

Fallout is just radioactive particles in the dirt. Once you clear that away there's not too much of a problem. Probably can't plant food and stuff, but you can walk around. Hell, most of Chernobyl right now is able to be hung out in, and has been for a while. That's our case study.

VICE did a documentary on the old Soviet testing grounds in Kazakhstan. You might have watched it, since I think you follow them about as well as me (or that's Hugs) so I won't go into details for you.

But for the rest: the Polygon testing grounds in northern Kazakhstan was where the Soviets tested a lot of nuclear weapons. I think they basically tested all their nukes there, where as with us we sort of spread it all out in maybe five places, or jointed them with our allies. There's lingering radioactive effects that do cause genetic mutations or higher risk of such things. But you can walk around there with only your shoes covered. The dangerous part of the radioactivity is in breathing the dust.

Also Vodka is the approved Russian protection against radiation, as a fun did-you-know. You could call it the RL Rad-X.

My version of Atlanta basically had them scrapping the ground free of all fallout and planting on the now 2-inch lower ground. Mostly they used plants that were rad-resistant, but they also planted perennials grown in a grow house in clean soil.

I was thinking about Hiroshima and Nagasaki when I wrote it. You can actually live there now, but cancer and birth defects, etc are far more common than the rest of Japan.

Atlanta would be one of the hardest places hit, but it'd undoubtedly rise again. Any Vaults Georgia had would probably be clustered around Atlanta. Hartsfield Jackson and the Terminus for trains in Atlanta would've both been hit as hard as possible. Vault-Tec would probably have predicted this, like everyone else with a brain, so I'm thinking experiments in the vaults would revolve around seeing if Atlanta could rise again after the nukes. The large concentration of GECKs in that small an area would easily revive Atl, I think. The worst that would happen is maybe some of the zoo creatures get mutated. Atlanta would essentially become a southern Valut-City conglomerate, probably erecting walls around the perimeter of the city and connecting all the Vaults in the city, and rebuilding things based off Vault Technology, I feel like by the time the Enclave started poking around, the Atlanta Valut-City conglomerate would be strong enough to prevent an all out Valut 13esque slaughter, so the Enclave would be forced to co-operate with the city. Atlanta would also probably be where the Southern Vault-Tec head quarters is located, and I know it's the birthplace of Nuka-Cola, incorporating all of that, with Enclave protection, Atl Vault-City would be pretty well off.

Atlanta would have risen, but it'd be far from perfect, it'd still be a drop of blue in a sea of red, but that wouldn't stop things from becoming xenophobic and authoritarian, fast. Especially with Enclave assistance. The rest of Georgia would probably devolve pretty quickly into a Confederate state of anarchy, moutainfolk, and rednecks. Florida would be a little split, but the panhandle would certainly come under this "New Confederacy" state of mind. The only other place in Georgia of note might be Athens? I feel like Athens is where non-murderous rednecks and Atlanta rejects would end up, they wouldn't be as technologically advanced or as well defended, but you'd have more freedom than in Atlanta and you wouldn't have to worry as much about being hung or sold into slavery as the rest of the South. Using it's connection to Atlanta, it'd probably establish itself as something of a "Redding" to Atlanta's "Vault-City," it'd be the only other major city in the area, everywhere else in Georgia would be pure red New Confederate territory.

The rest of the south would probably also fall into a similar state of Confederacy based anarchy, exceptions being The Republic of Texas, Southern Louisianna, Florida sans north, and 'maybe' the coasts of North and South Carolina?

Just my theory.

I had them rebuild the Nuka-cola plant, the botanical gardens (for mutation-free plants), a mega-church, a junkyard, the Atlanta Underground, an orchard and a vineyard. I was going to have the Enclave survivors in the area capture an old vault, fix it up, then lock themselves in so that they can protect themselves from the uncivilized wastelanders while they repopulate. All except the Enclave trade extensively with each other.
A vault city would work well. I need someone to make high-grade stuff.
