Hogwarts: The European Tour

tl;dr:

You are one of a small group of Hogwarts students that have won a bursary to go and travel round Europe. The RP will follow an episodic format based on the various destinations the group will visit.

Plot:

Apart from the basic concept of one big magical road trip, the plot is to be decided by you! By separating each destination into episodes, I’ll open the floor to suggestions for what we might find when we get there: a village overrun with werewolves? A bowtruckle that never learned the power of friendship? Just getting stupidly drunk in a Spanish bar? Let me know what you want to do! There are lots of not-quite-developed ideas in the HP universe, and if JK hasn't fleshed them out, we can do it instead! While we're in one episode we can decide where to go next.

You might notice the ‘slice of life’ tag: this is set just seven years after the defeat of Lord Voldemort. Our characters will be old enough to remember his regime, so, as well as taking a trip round Europe, the RP will also look at the aftermath of the war for them.

This is set in 2004 after the canonical Harry Potter story has finished and will add to the canon, but, as a general rule, not contradict it. IE: you should feel free to invent spells, characters, creatures, locations and anything else, so long as you don’t contradict the central canon. This is probably more for people that have read the books rather than watched the films. That said, I would prefer to steer clear from any canon characters or events.

Players:

I don’t have a set limit on the number of people to be involved in this. I’m more interested in people that can get grammar, punctuation, and spelling basically right who want to be active members of a group RP.

Name: Anneliese "Anelie" Allen Addler Aldo Ace Abell

Gender: Female

Age: 17

Appearance: Anelie is described by most as gorgeous. She's tall, standing above most other girls her age. Her skin is free of any blemishes and is a snow white color. Her hair falls to her knees in a red sheet of smooth, soft, silky hair. Her hair is bright red, getting her a slight resemblance to a Weasley. But the rest of her makes up any confusion one might have. Anelie has blood red lips and deep eyes. Her eyes are an electric blue color flecked with gold and green. Rimmed by dark, long eyelashes, Anelie's eyes are one of her most charming features.

Personality: Anelie has quite a few unlikable traits. She is anti-social. She has a short temper, though she sticks with her decisions. With her strong will and cunning mind, Anelie has figured out how to break people, how to trick them into thinking what she wants them to. But Anelie isn't a bad person. She doesn't like to prank people or anything like that, she thinks of that as low. She isn't the nicest person but Anelie can be a great friend if you get close enough to her.

Backstory: Anelie was born as Anneliese Allen Addler Ace. Her mother, Marianne Addler, was a young German woman, married to a french husband, Bernt Ace. Anelie and her mother lived with her mother and father in France, where she soon became fluent in German and French. When Anelie was a toddler her parent's relationship started turning sour. When Anelie was seven her parents divorced. A year later, on a trip to London, Anelie's mother got remarried. He new husband was an englishman, Simeon Abell. Anelie's name changed, along with the rest of her life. When Anelie turned ten, her mother told her two secrets. The first was that Marie was a witch. It had taken Anelie a while to believe that, only persuaded when her mother had shown her real magic in private. The second was that she was the child of an italian wizard by the name of Desi Aldo, a result of a short relationship. At this time Adelie was already quite mature and wasn't terribly shocked by the second secret. In fact she simply added Aldo into her already long name and began to study Italian, curious about the language. When she turned eleven, Anelie received a letter from Hogwarts and decide she would go there, caring not what her parents thought.

Strengths: Anelie is good with foreign languages. She is also god at running and extremely smart. He interests in languages and curses have pursued her to do independent research in those areas. Anelie also has a good amount of strength, good stamina, strong will, and is quite mature.

Weaknesses: Anelie doesn't trust people easily, nor does she like other people in generally. She prefers books over people, though is good at using her wits. Her anti-social personality can sometimes lead to her being bad at conversation. She also has a short temper, and is quick to retaliate.

Robin Keo

Name : Robin Keo

Ethnicity: British Cambodian

Age: 17

Appearance: Tall at 5’ 9’’ with an an average build, but at times can look gaunt and sickly if she has been working on something for too long. Often appears disheveled with little regard to her physical appearance. Robin has long black hair that is almost always tied up (simply because it's easier to handle) with a colored ribbon. Her defining feature are her captivating hazel eyes—usually accompanied with bags and crows feet.

Personality: Honest and generally chill. She sometimes throws tactfulness out the window with her bluntness and biting sarcasm, having little patience for formalities and elephants-in-the-room. Very little gets under her skin, and to the outsider, she seems to be in a continuous state of chill and self paced movement—in reality, she is the type of person to feel explosively about a few things rather than let the trivial details get to her; Is strongly against dark wizards and injustice, but is more tolerant of taboo magic, due to her invested interest in learning all facets of magic.

Hobbies include experimenting and tinkering with the elements of certain spells, runes, and potions. Her methods could be compared to that of a scientist: hypothesize, test, and iterate. She's anything but risk averse, and often sacrifices her own self care when she dives into a personal project.

Backstory: Robin's muggle mother immigrated from the capital of Cambodia to England, where she met and fell in love with her husband, an auror working for the ministry. She lived in London for 7 years of her life, until they moved to Whitby, North Yorkshire, a small town where her eccentric grandmother of a witch lived. She always looked up to her father, and wanted to follow in his footsteps. When the Second Wizarding War began a couple years later, her father was dispatched to fight the dark forces, and would often send messages home. After a few months, those messages stopped. Robin and her family routinely checked the news, and watched as the headlines got darker and heavier as the months passed.

Robin grew distant and would lock herself in her study or grandma’s library, pouring her time into reading and experimenting with all sorts of magicks. Her mother grew weary and disheartened with time, and hovered incessantly over Robin, discouraging her interest in higher level magic. Her grandmother, on the other hand, didn’t condemn the practice, but actively taught Robin about arcane potion making and ancient runes—it was the next few years of this that she became obsessed with learning new skills; her escape into magic was at first a coping method, fueled by anger and sadness with the disappearance of her father, but eventually became a true passion. She had normal relationships at her muggle school and maintained below average grades at her school with the knowledge she would attend a magical school.

After the ministry is reestablished in a few years, news of her father returns; he is discovered to be alive, but has aged 30 years due to a complex spall cast on him. The family is overjoyed to see him return after 3 years, but Robin is fueled with anger as she takes note of his old and tired face. He went into hiding when the Ministry was overthrown and worked closely with Kingsley Shackbolt to rebuild it. Robin refused the offer to study at a smaller magic school near the area, and now attends Hogwarts, where she is able to be closer to her father.

Strengths:
Other than her bullish determination to work hard and commit, she has surprising people skills—others find her honesty refreshing. She has the natural ability of disarming people in conversation. She's also a natural at systems and innovative thinking and is a staunch autodidact.

Weaknesses: Often gets stuck in her head. She struggles with communicating with people constantly and expressing her feelings & thoughts. Because of this she also has difficulty working in a team and maintaining empathetic relations with other people.

Hugo Coil

Appearance:

Hugo has light skin with brown hair that he keeps short and styled. Now that's he done with school he's grown a short beard of the same color which he also keeps short and well-trimmed. His eyes are a dark green. He stands at roughly 5'6", somewhat short for his age. He swears he's still growing though. Despite that he is quite stocky, having a broad chest and shoulders earned through a strict fitness regimen. His clothing is often colorful and he does not shy away from standing out.

Personality:
Hugo is a social friendly guy. That's what most people notice about him right off the bat. He's a bit of a charmer and likes to make friends with just about everyone. He enjoys a good joke, bringing humor to what situation he can and playing the occasional prank. They're typically harmless, but he has been known to push it a bit too far and then feel terribly about it. He thrives off the energy of other people and is at home in large groups, everywhere from an outing, to a party, to a Quidditch match. While he is capable of holding a good conversation one-on-one, he tends to dominate a conversation in groups larger than three people. Hugo considers himself a lifelong learner, and believes that if you go to bed without experiencing or learning something new, you may as well have not even woken up. He can be impatient at times, but he very rarely gets angry.

Backstory:
While Hugo was born to a witch and wizard, his father was a muggle-born and as such became a target during the Second War after the fall of the Ministry. Hugo and his father went deep into hiding. While not a member of the Order nor the most outspoken critic of the new regime, Hugo's mother did her best to protect others from the Death Eaters and Ministry while keeping her head down.

While in hiding, the wizarding world effectively disappeared for Hugo. Though various enchantments protected his grandparents' house, there was very little magic inside. His grandmother's growing fear of magic discouraged her son from bringing any of that world inside the house. No charms, no owls, not even any Chocolate Frogs to Hugo's dismay. However, he eventually managed to find a window to the world once more, even if it was not the most light-hearted. He and his father stumbled upon Potterwatch one evening after Hugo's grandparents had gone to sleep. Hugo was fascinated by these brave people who chose to use this medium to not only oppose You-Know-Who, but to keep up spirits as well.

He was proud and relieved to hear his mother had taken part in the battle of Hogwarts and helped to end the war. Hugo was able to attend Hogwarts and live a relatively normal life in the good but shaky aftermath of the war. His fascination with Potterwatch changed into an interest in the Wizarding Wireless Network. He hoped to one day be the voice carried out to witches and wizards across Europe.

He did rather well in school, sorted into Ravenclaw as a result of his intelligence and wit. He did well in most his classes, but found a huge obstacle in Transfiguration which quickly proved to be his most hated subject as he simply could not get it. By his fourth year he had fully given up on ever mastering the subject and spent most practical lessons devising small pranks. He loved Potions, doing well and occasionally brewing interesting potions in his free time. While he enjoyed Quidditch, he had no chance of joining the team, but was able to take over the commentator post in his fourth year, much to his delight. He was a rather well-liked individual among his teachers and peers and got acquainted with quite a few of the young witches at Hogwarts in the upper years. helping to organize social event and the various victory celebrations in the Ravenclaw common room.

Strengths:

Hugo is an exceptional potioneer. A combination of skill and interest helped him excel in the subject at school and he is skilled at both brewing and analyzing potions. He has great success in all his school level potions, though as a recent graduate he still requires experience to truly master those of N.E.W.T level and beyond.

He is good learner and retains information that he reads rather well. As such he has a lot of general knowledge of the world form culture, to magic, to sports of both the Muggle and Wizard variety.

Hugo is a people person and is good at helping people feel included and welcome. He remembers just about everyone that he meets and can form a friendship rather quickly, though he does have those few people he values above all else.

Weaknesses:

Transfiguration is the biggest hole in his magical skill. While he learned the theory just fine, he can barely manage to pull off simple spells.

Hugo cannot for the life of him get a broomstick to fly properly. He just can't.

While friendly, Hugo can be a bit self-centered. He cannot understand those who dislike social situations for whatever reason, and can be insistent on getting them to "open up" and join in against their will. If allowed, he will talk and talk, holding focus of a conversation on whatever he finds interesting.

Personality: Mary is a quite girl, though very curious. One would not expect her to know the things that she knows. Unless they saw her library history.

Backstory: Mary was born to a backwaters hick of a mother who believed God had punished her with Mary. Mary's father was unknown to Mary, and the source of Mary's abilities seen as the worst possibility of a deal between Satan and God. Mary's mother believed she was suffering as Job had, and to free herself of the curse she must cleanse Mary. The woman's definition of cleanse grew worse as Mary's abilities grew. These abilities were never quite under control though.

Somehow word got to Mary's father, Andrew Winthrop, about her situation. How word got to him was never something he told Mary, but late in the night he took the small 8 year old from her home and freed her. It took Mary sometime before she realized she had side-along apparated.

The next few years Mary and her father learned from each other. Mary on how to trust people again, Andrew on how the simplest thing can bring joy. Mary was grossly undereducated so Andrew lost no time in catching the girl up in general education. When the letter for Hogwarts came he beamed. Neither knowing what the next year would bring.

The years spent at Hogwarts drifted the small family no further apart, and when the opportunity arose to travel Andrew encouraged his only daughter to do it.

Strengths:
-Fast learner
-Quick to plan

Weaknesses:
-Despite years of learning how to trust, Mary is very slow to trust people. Very few know her whole past. That was exasperated by her first year experiences.
-Her judgments can be cold.
-Her comments harsh and cut to the bone.

Yeah I was trying to figure this out myself. In order to be finishing school (which I just realized I assumed but was never directly stated was stated in the CS template) in 2004, they would have had to start in the 97/98 year. If that's the case I may have to rewrite my character backstory.
