4/10 The production of the instrumentation sort of felt like it was a demo. I'm not the biggest fan of grind (so maybe that's my problem.) but I feel like this is fairly average for the genre. The reason it's lower, is the vocal part. Where it goes "ooooooo" "OOF" (which sounds really bad.) Like he was mimicking a dog bark and I couldn't get past that. (I also appreciate tracks better if I can at least see the lyrical quality. Though I couldn't find those either.)

It's long as hell, but it is progressive metal give a listen, maybe you'll like it. ;D

Instrumentals were spot on, but the vocals kind of made it sound like an edgy middleschool song. Not enough to ruin the song.

7/10 I enjoyed it, mostly the little bits of guitar and the female vocals hold it together well. The actual hook wasn't particularly strong for me.

That was interesting. Not quite my speed in general, but it was an enjoyable song. Kinda sounds like it could be used as trailer music for a teen action flick or something. 7.5/10

@TheMadAsshatter Okay I listened to this and typed out something once already but I ended up stopping because I couldn't find a worthy song. XD

Anyway, Radiohead has never really interested me. Everyone keeps telling me I'll like them and how good they are, but the last time I listened to an album I got greeted with a solid minute of loud static, it goes without saying that I didn't finish that album.

6.5/10 (First time/again for good measure.) It's a decent song, singer is fine and lyrics are very simple. I feel like slow songs like this usually need something more to stand out. More impactful vocals, deeper/emotional or more complicated lyrics. This song just feels too vague and subtle for my taste. Though I do enjoy the ending minute instrumental bit. Seems like static is their thing.

Not their best song, but when I want strong vocals. Their certainly one of bands that come to mind.

@SleepingSilence 7/10. Kind of reminds me of Skillet and the like. They're talented musicians but I've never been into predominantly clean vocals from male singers. Throw in a female vocalist and I get into it, like with Flyleaf or something. Usually a song really has to grab me to get into it, like Bittersweet Symphony by The Verve or very few select Radiohead songs, like Idioteque.

@Goliah Wow, I am a sucker for female vocals myself. Duel vocals, (frankly with as many different vocals as possible.) Not liking male singers in general, limits you're music choices by a lot, my man. Also though they're the same genre, I don't find Red and Skillet all that similar. Skillet has many more electronic elements, much different sounding vocalist (has duel vocals too.) And just more poppy overall. But if you like more harsh vocals, Red can provide that on a few songs.

7.5/10 I really enjoy the way Gojira uses the robotic? voice in their songs. I don't even know how to describe it, though from the album I listened to of them, they did it a lot.

And speaking of female voices. Though she's alternative hip hop, so not exactly a vocal powerhouse. It's enjoyable.

@SleepingSilence Not a big fan of this one. It's catchy, I suppose; but the way it combines pop and alt. rock, and her trendy biker look, it comes off as trying too hard to be edgy. Can't get into the squeaky vocals either; I find it clashes with the mood of the song and especially the way she voices them in the video. The bathroom sink, cutting and blood references also remind me a ton of the emo/scene craze when I was a teen and it just makes me cringe nowadays.
I guess I'll give it a 4.5/10 because if a friend played it on the radio I wouldn't hate it as much as everything else out there?

Fair word of warning: if you aren't a fan of extreme metal, you'll probably hate this. Up to you. Black/death, or 'war metal' reminiscent of Conqueror and Blasphemy. Start at 1:05 and stick around as long as you're able.

@Aristo Finally, my Old English classes from Uni have paid off. I'm 100% certain I pronounced the band and song name correctly instead of pronouncing "ð" as "D". My metal street cred rises.

But I dig it. Typically the farthest I venture into the realm of Black/Death metal is Burn The Priest or Gutworm. I guess Dethklok and DevilDriver count too. I've been meaning to listen to some SAMAEL, I've heard a few of their tracks but never got around to sitting through a full album. I rediscovered Type O Negative as well, so I'm on a bit of a Doom kick right now.

Overall, 8/10, maybe 8.5. They sound like the kind of band that have that one song which, the moment I hear it, I'm all in and getting their entire discography, listening to stuff that hadn't grabbed me before, but suddenly I'm saying "Oh shit, I never noticed this part! Fucking oath!"

@SleepingSilence Not my favourite DTP song, but still 8.5/10 because Devin Townsend and the fact that he's been able to find his groove again with the added benefit of sobriety. Giving Strapping Young Lad a chance was the best choice I ever made.

That 'drop' after the title drop is super obnoxious. XD I actually like some of Mindless Self Indulgence. So I'm not even opposed to his 'kind' of music or voice. But it's pretty generic stuff, even for him. The video is kind of fun. 3/10 Sorry. >.<

But don't feel bad, everyone likes music that is questionable in quality. This song I kind of want someone to rate this low, so I can confirm that I am insane for liking it. Because the beginning is obnoxious and the entire goddamn song is the hook. But its so catchy thou. >.> (that or I can just give someone else an ear worm.)

@SleepingSilence I don't really like P!AtD to begin with, but I gave it a fair chance. There's always the chance that I'll like it I suppose.

No such luck. It's not a bad song, just... not catchy or engaging to me. I get the feeling that if another person or band had done something similar it would have clicked with me (this seems like Jimmy Urine's entire cup of tea), but it just doesn't. 5/10

@Goliah Dammit. You gave it a more accurate rating than I desired. XD But yeah I totally understand that. P!ATD is kind of an odd one anyway, because none of their albums really sound the same. I do like some of their stuff, but never really as a whole. (Unless it's the dude's voice.) I'd say, you'd actually probably find at least something you may enjoy from that band. :3

7/10 I enjoyed it (which supersedes the quality of the track and bumps it up .5) It's kind of background music-y, but in an enjoyable way. Had a good rhythm though I found the sound sample bit, kind of lackluster? For lack of a better term.

Okay, this is meant for you. (though anyone can rate it. ;D) If you like Mindless Self Indulgence. This band (or well this song because its the only one I like.) is very energetic turn your brain off music in the same vein. I will be surprised if you dislike it. (oh, I just learned the female vocals from this band, is the drummer from MSI. So that explains things...)

@SleepingSilence I love Rabbit Junk. The moment I heard the This Life is Where You Get Fucked album I was all in, especially when I heard the Ghetto Blasphemer II portion of Project Nonagon, since I love me some Lovecraft.

Interesting tidbit, the guys I just linked to, Cyanotic, are the founders of the record label that Rabbit Junk is currently signed to (Glitch Mode Recordings) and collaborate with them regularly on songs like Drek Kick or their latest tack, Locked, which was remixed by Cyanotic frontman, Sean Payne!

(Haha, yeah I'm a bit of a Glitch Mode/RabbitJunk/Cyanotic fanboy.)

Are you sure it's Jennifer Dunn/Kitty who's the female vocalist? I thought it was the wife of the male vocalist, Jennifer Bernett/Sum Grrl.

Solid 9/10 though.

It's one of my favourite albums from these guys.

Weird/10 2/10 (Hard to judge a song like this. Though I can understand someone enjoying this. As a weird video. Like those parody songs like "My Horse" or "Mouth Full Of Crabs" something along those lines. But judging as a song? The music is barely there, the vocals are grating/sound the time throughout without any variance. The lyrics aren't even really that funny or enjoyably cheesy for me, in the same way Psychostick or Gloryhammer would be. Though I did smile at "one rescued ass mermaid".)

Back to music. An interesting video, finally gave the whole album a shot, and will be looking at their new one out eventually.

The song itself was pretty interesting. Some of the changes in the progression felt a bit weird, but really, the whole song is weird, so I'll give that a pass. 6.7/10

@TheMadAsshatter Yeah, weird is pretty much the first thing I thought too. Found it when I watching a bunch of random music videos on youtube a while ago. The video sort of took may attention from the song. But listened to their album and the song a few more times and I've learn to appreciate how good a vocalist he is/among other musical parts I didn't realize where actually there. Though that's probably still the best track from their album.

8/10 Wow this song is pretty busy, almost sounds like two songs are playing at once the way the song is mixed. (or maybe I'm going crazy.) Either way, enjoyed the track a lot. Good pop punk. Never heard of them, but maybe I'll give their albums a spin later.

Speaking of those. (Maybe I've used this one before, but it's a good video. And a nice grower song. :3) More people need to rate songs dangit. :P

I hate to keep posting, because I know it'll just turn into me and @SleepingSilence sandwich-posting constantly, but goddammit, this thread is grossly underappreciated!

Now, back to the actual thread... That fucking video hits you right in the feels. God damn. As for the song, damn. I liked it. I'm a little too drunk right now to analyze the lyrics, but I did enjoy the overall sound of the song. 7.8/10.

@TheMadAsshatter I feel like I constantly sound like a picky, unappreciative bastard but... Not my thing. I listened to it twice, once just with the audio and again reading the lyrics, without paying attention to the band or song name during the first listen so I could go in with a blank slate and no judgement. And it just doesn't really stand out to me. Which is weird considering The Used, along with bands like MCR, essentially helped pioneer their genre. I've listened to The Used before and they seemed pretty distinct when I originally listened to their music, but I honestly thought I was listening to some random band who was heavily inspired by Good Charlotte for a minute.

Which I suppose is the irony of pioneering the genre, because when everyone starts to sound like you, even the original doesn't stand out anymore. 5/10.
