I was thinking that it wouldn't be a character from another universe. No, G-Zilla serves its purpose it just wasn't as dramatic as the setup made it out to be.

Hraesvelgr, Grimnir, Jormungand, or Hrungnir are good ones (to me). Lots more here

Or if don't want Norse you could go with Japanese,

Baku, Enenra, Hibagon, Isonade, Issie, Kappa, Tsuchinoko, Umibōzu, or Wani maybe? More here.

Lots of places have mythology to draw upon, especially for monsters. 'Godzilla' feels over used and cliché to me. Try searching around on google. You often find neat stuff.
