Collab between Sep and Forsythe

Pre-launch meet and greet between then Captain Catherine Back and Doctor Phil Lawson

The door of the elevator opened, and before him stood the captain. Dressed in the typical garbs of a fleet officer. The Catherine Langford's insignia still on her breast. He laughed slightly at the thought, she still had no real idea what this shipyard was churning out but he had no doubt she’d bite as soon as she knew what they were building here. While he had no control over the Captain of the vessel, with so few experienced captains and many of them holding of them holding important stations he had no doubt one of them would be replaced.

He had his bets on Catherine Black. Experienced, dedicated and when in control of the Catherine Langford the IOA had little control over their own ship so that was always a card in their favour. He walked forward, the excitement in him waking him up. Though he doubt he looked fresh, he had spent days awake working on some of the latest adjustments….

However with renewed vigor he walked up his former CO and offered his hand. “Captain, it’s so good to see you again, and thanks for taking some of your time to come take a peek at our little pet project.”

The scene reminded her of the game Portal. She was in front of a little tool shed in the middle of nowhere and little else. Of course, she knew the shed was a hidden elevator, but since there was nothing around here, she wondered…

Catherine’s train of thought was interrupted as the door opened, and a familiar face welcomed her. Smiling, she shook the offered hand: “It’s been too long Dr. Lawson. I am glad for the distraction actually. Earth has me sitting behind the desk while the Langford is in drydock. I’ll take every opportunity to get out.”

She wondered what it was she was here to see though, and inquired as much of the doctor. She did send in new specs for the recon plane, perhaps that was it? It would be wonderful if she got to fly a new machine.

“Sadly, the 547 isn’t fully operational. A fine craft don’t get me wrong, but there are still the occasional kinks which is why the non-cloak version is standard. We’re currently trying to get our computers to be small enough yet be able to keep up with the calculations, which are actually more complicated than plotting a hyperspace jump. Odd I know, but-” He shrugged. “-Maths a bitch. Anyway, while you were waiting for more updates on that front, you no doubt know about the new ships being thrown into service.”

He started walking towards a slightly bigger blast door down the hall. “The 305 is currently in service out in Pegasus for the Indians and the 306 is getting ready for its shakedown cruise later this month. I’m here to show you something else.”

He swiped his ID card through the card reader beside the door, which after beeping in confirmation slowly began to rise up. Revealing the X-307, in some places her hull was still being patched on and there was obviously both man and machine crawling over the ship in order to put it together. “Today I’m going to introduce you to my personal favourite, the 307.”

Kat was getting a bit edgy with all the waiting. Not the recon plane? Then what? She’s seen the two new ships already - they let her do as much as visit the Earth’s shipyard. As far as she knew, the offworld one was assembling more 304s.

Then the blast door lifted and revealed a small platform overlooking a very much different ship. It was still being built, but she could get a good impression of it’s final shape already. A small gasp escaped her mouth before she went to lean over the guardrail to see as much as she could.

“This is…” she fought to find the correct words, “...well, sexy really!” she grinned, before looking at the craft with a more watchful eye, scratching her chin. “Larger than a 304, yet not armed so much. Armor looks on par. Unless we're in the business of making our battlecruisers easier targets... I give up, what’s it for?”

“I knew you’d appreciate a fine woman when you saw her.” He gave a smirk and let the comment rest, he didn’t bother to chase it up she knew well what he was getting at. He moved over and leaned on the barrier looking at the ship. “From rules and what not the hanger placement and missile silos are set. In terms of the actual gun batteries I was feeling that would be something you could help me on. I’d rather not just put guns on every surface like the 304.”

He turned to face her slightly on the whole battlecruiser statement, offering a grin. “You’re right, she’s not a battlecruiser. The 307 is a long term reconnaissance, research, recon vessel. She’s as fast as a 304, with the shield power. Has better sensors and comm systems, and is designed for long term mission viability with as small as crew as possible. Thoughts?”

“Other than ‘I want it!’ you mean?” the Captain smiled, looking over the glistering hull.

Lawson smirked. “Did I mention she has a cloak?”

“You are a god damn tease, doc.” Kat said, shooting him a half amused and half deadly glare. “It sounds great. Finally some finesse rather than brute force. I always prefered stealth approach and pouncing from the shadows. Was any thought put to using the superior maneuverability the new classes have?” she thought out loud, judging the hull to get an idea about the weapons placement.

He signalled for them to head down the walkway, which would eventually lead to the bridge that she’d one day be commanding from. If everything went well. “She won’t have the speed in Hyperspace to that of a 306 though that stands to reason the 306 has the biggest engines we’ve ever built, but she’ll definitely be maneuverable. Think of the new 303 “Tempest” Line and the new age of support frigates. Roll, dodge and turn. She’ll be able to do them all, with the help from the asgard core.”

He turned them down a different walkway heading into the ship itself. “Though that being said we’re trying to incorporate a host of new designs, including fusion, to test on her. She’s got the lab space and a lot of her actual parts are in “modules” that can be switched out. It’s all to do with the fact that she really is a prototype ship.” He stopped them for a second and pointed at a turret just visible along the spine.

“That itself is one of our first attempts at a plasma based weapon. By first attempts I mean it’s not just something the Asgard slapped onto one of our ships for us to replicate we made it ourselves. Even it can be replaced with a standard sized railgun. I mean, before everything had to be designed and planned and if it didn’t work. Well, battles like with the Ori at the Supergate or the Hammond at Icarus happen. The point is that this ship will be fully functional while also able to test out new technologies for later models. Hell, she’ll be one of a kind.”

“Next you tell me this beauty can track and fight other ships into and inside hyperspace and I will refuse to leave.” the captain said, thinking she was probably hoping for too much. She has been told ‘no’ before, when they didn’t let her fly helicopters after her accident. Whenever she inquired Homeworld Command about when the Langford will be ready to go out of the drydock again, she was getting similar answers as back then. Couple that with the IOA hating her guts, and her worries about that desk job were legitimate.

“Fusion makes sense. Less power but Hydrogen is the most easily found element in the universe and it can be scooped up easily. If it is supposed to go on her own, it cuts down on the logistical issues nicely.” Catherine nodded with approval.

They eventually came into a room that she could recognize was the command and control. She chuckled. Her private victory of getting this aspect of the Langford changed apparently stuck. “What weapons are being considered? With the same resupply issue in mind, I can’t say the railguns and missiles sound appealing.”

“We have swarm missiles, similar to the Horizon but on an anti-fighter scale in planning. A large spinal gun similar to that on destiny. Missiles, railguns, plasma. While the railguns will take initial priority there is a manufacturing area on the ship, that given the materials if the time is taken we can upgrade most of the turrets if need be. Though these designs need to be actually tested first.” As they entered the CiC he smiled slightly.

It was a good design, keeping the heart of the ship secure. Though there were several alterations, there was a slight rise in the middle of the room with two podiums with about waist height for the captain to stand in. As well as a couple of stations set in a circle around where the captain would be. “If you’ll excuse me, I think I’ll do the demonstration.”

He stepped into the centre of the room, and ran pressed three buttons on the left hand podium. As he did so two holographic screens appeared rising out of each. Displaying both holographic buttons for input and displays with information running all over them. Flicking through several buttons, obviously knowing what he was doing. Consoles throughout the CIC came to life. “This is your CiC. I can’t show of all its functions yet obviously as not all of them are operational but it operates much the same as your own with a couple of exceptions. If an officer has to leave you can take their post without leaving. You don’t need a chair-”

That in itself was a hint that he was vying for Catherine to get the ship, and that she was even being considered by the fact that this was her preference “-and once we’ve got all the sensors online we’ll be able to holographically show the theatre of combat.” He shrugged. “Hell, want to take the helm? Just don’t try to activate the engines. You’ll get me in trouble.”

He stepped down from the centre.

All her thoughts about the issues came to a crashing halt. Verdammt! “I… I beg your pardon?” she asked for clarification, too stunned by the implication to do much else. “Do you know something I don’t?”

He just chuckled. “If you can invent a cloaking device for a spaceship, then no I guess I don’t. If you can’t, then yes I do. Also all I know is we need a captain, you’re a captain. Yes you have the Langford but c’mon. How long do you think the IOA will like having minimal control of their own ship?” He shrugged.

The look on Cap’s face had to be priceless. The best she would later describe it would be like a girl who asked her dad what present she was getting for Christmas and he refused to tell. Still… “Well, whenever I inquired of Command when we’ll be leaving again, I’ve got dodgy answers. O’Neill would have had to authorize me seeing this. I wonder if that’s on purpose, he tends to work this way the cheeky bastard. Tell you what. I’ll call him and tell him I want the ship. We’ll see what happens.” Kat grinned, running her hand across the surface of the dormant controls, not wanting to wake the infant ship up before it was ready.

“If you’re looking at me for the weapon placement, I’d emphasize the need to be able to shoot at the widest angles. That way you can have less turrets for the same concentration of firepower. Best to be able to fire each and every gun forwards along with the spinal guns, and 50% or more into every other direction would be nice. And put enough protection around the engines. You know we had limited maneuverability at Langara and that crazy bitch was warping pyramids right in front of us.” she shared her thoughts, shuddering at the memory.

“It’s not overly noticeable now however there is a slight hull overlap over the engines so even if shields go down as long as she’s in the right position her engines will be fine. They don’t stick out of her arse like a 304. In terms of how General O’Neill works-” He just shrugged. “-I can’t speak for that. I was originally moved here to oversee 303 and 304 production while working on the 547 and now I’m designing this beaut so that man does work in strange ways. I heard that when the Ori were a threat Landry requested Carter be sent to the SGC. When O’Neill refused Landry called him and was arguing with him on how she was needed, as she turned up at the door. Though if you’ve ever spoken to Walter he does say some pretty crazy stories.”

His watch beeped, and he checked it. “I have cloaking simulations to run in about half an hour, however before then. Could I interest you in a stroll to the observation deck? From there you should be able to see where most the current weapon emplacements are going to be. If you go back and check your emails to you I’ve actually been really sneaky in getting a lot of answers I need.” He stopped to turn back to the Captain.

“You know, I should have been a spy.” He just laughed as he opened the bulkhead that would take them further into the ship.

Simply nodding, Kat followed. “Oh, whoa...” she breathed out as she got a look from the observation deck. “I have to give it to you, she is beautiful. I never understood that ‘roof’ thing on the 304. This shape looks so much better.” she smiled.

After a few minutes she suggested moving some of the weapons more spaced along the length of the ship into clusters around the best positions. she understood more of them could be taken out easily that way, but their defensive weaponry had high rate of fire already. When in clusters of four, very little stood a chance of actually getting through, and this way the overall defense would be stronger and save up two gun positions entirely.

“What about the birds? I didn’t notice any hangar on the outside?”

“Oh, thought I mentioned that.” He shrugged, the observation deck was all the way at the tail looking down onto the main body of the ship. Her nose off near the end of the hangar. He pointed towards the nose. “In the nose there’s room for ten 302s, two 547s and one of the new dropship prototypes being designed by Area 51. Who don’t want to be felt outdone by the 307 so somehow wrangled that contract. Anyway, it’s big. Has a catapult if you really want to use it, and has advanced sensors if you need to pick someone up. It’s a smaller target and harder to it, can launch Horizon Platforms and has two hangar doors and a shield in the unlikely event that it is hit.”

He moved over to a console, and began pressing buttons. Accessing the cameras in the hangar and then bringing up a holographic image on the window on front of them of the front of the ship. “Don’t always expect a real time feed to the outside of the ship, but while we’re still earth side-” he offered her the console. “-we’ve got cameras all around the ship if you want to take a closer look.”

“Magnificent. Not as many as a 304, but hey, it’s smaller.” she said, taking the cue and getting a good look with the cameras from below. This day was fantastic. “Just one more thing. What do you call her?”

“Well, we take a lot of cues from mythology. She’s a fine lady.”

“I’m thinking Nyx.”

Some time before mission start.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
„I'm home...” Miyako said by habit once she got to her house. Usually at this point her boyfriend would have responded, but this time things weren't such.” Ohh yeah...” She muttered as she realized this time she was all alone at home... With annoyed sigh she threw her keys at the small wooden bowl she used to kept her keys at. The place seemed so quiet and empty without another soul around, but things had been going downhill between them lately. Now yesterday they finally broke up and what do you know, a day later she get's called for a mission to a very distant place. Taking a deep breath, she started to prepare the small amount of things she was going to need and could bring.
Finally after everything else was prepared, Miyako went to her computer and quickly booted it up. In general she bore no good feelings towards her family, but that was mostly about her parents. She was on decent terms with her younger sister and they had been talking via internet secretly from their parents. After turning on her PC, Miyako quickly checked if her sister was online, but it seemed that wasn't the case. Not that she was surprised about that, the time difference between the USA and Japan wasn't exactly small. Instead she quickly began writing her an email to inform her that she won't be in touch for a good while. Naturally she didn't write anything about the mission or where she was going.
With all else done there was one thing that was left to be prepared. Miyako slowly went to her bed and reached to the katana that was hanged just above it on the wall. That wasn't exactly a cheap sword replica, so she couldn't leave it here. It was a family heirloom she got from her grandfather. As such her parents couldn't say anything about it when she left Japan to join the SGC. Earlier she asked for permission to bring it with her and she got green light about it as long it she keeps it away from others.
“Ahhhhh...” She finally laid down on her bed once everything was done with. It wasn't going to be her first time away from Earth, but this was going to be her first time spending so much time on a spaceship. She felt strangely excited about it...
The visit left her in good spirits. Even if Dr. Lawson’s predictions didn’t come to be true, she was happy just to be off of Earth for a little while. Returning to the Sun Tzu that brought her here while ferrying raw materials to the offsite dock, she spent the trip back thinking about what to do. Her plans though changed as soon as they arrived though. Inside her office was the person of her (momentary) desire.
“So, liked the ship?” General O’Neill said, smiling from over her chair. It took her a few seconds to find her voice again. “...Yes! Yes, it is looking very well. Glad to see my person in charge, he made some of the improvements stick.” Kat smiled, “Wish It was ready for a ride when I visited.” she hinted.
“Well, I can’t promise you that, but maybe this will lift your mood.” he said as he got up, handing her an envelope. “Well, I have something else to discuss with general Landry, enjoy your day.” Black gave him a brief salute, her other hand already wrist deep in the envelope. She hoped the Langford was finally ready to go. As she read the contents of the envelope, she had to reach out for the wall to keep herself upright.
A loud “WHAT?!” ricocheted off of the walls and general O’Neill made haste around the corner before general Black’s yelling burned all oxygen in the hallway.
Later…
The two of them sat in the cafeteria. O’Neill was looking a bit amused seeing Black poke her food with little taste. “You should try fruit loops, they’re great… As long as you have at least some variety.” he suggested, earning himself a Black-death-glare.
“I don’t want it.” she cut back. “Doesn’t get more ‘desk job’ than being made a general. Didn’t know the IOA was gunning for me that much.” she frowned.
“It’s not that bad. You know the perks of being a general are that you get to do pretty much whatever the hell you want. A relaxing stroll in a 302, pick up some groceries… It’s not that bad, I was there once too you know. And I still got to go to ancient egypt. And HAmmond flown that… weird death glider that goes through the gate. Even generals have adventures.”
Catherine contemplated that for a moment before a cheeky half smile appeared on her face. “Fine then - I want the 307.”
“That’s a pretty tall order, but I’ll see what i can do. I do know what they’re looking for though. The brief said to find someone who emphasises crew because the mission is unlikely to get reinforcements. Someone who prefers to gather intelligence on a situation before jumping in and is good in finding solutions to problems. You know I had one person in mind, but they also thought that for diplomatic purposes, we should send a general and that person was just a captain...”
Metal rang as Catherine dropped her fork. “Well look at the time, I need to be going. Enjoy your stay,” O’Neill said with a smirk of his own and left.
2nd Lieutenant Tanaka
Atlantis
Two Days before Transfer
2nd Lieutenant Tanaka snapped the AN/PVS-14 Monocular night vision device into its mount on his MICH helmet well, he and his team were gearing up for a combat mission in support of a reconnaissance team. “Cronfield you think you ready to take command of the team since this is my last mission at Atlantis before they transfer me out.” Said Tanaka well he slid on his helmet on and made sure everything was working. “Yeah, it sucks to lose you but I think Cronfield, can handle it.” Said a young sergeant zipping his vest closed. “You got something brown on your nose Dawson, and it is spreading.” retorted Martinez a large Corpsman of Hispanic descent. Dawson being the newest member of the team gave a mock laugh, sending the entire team in an uproar of laughter. “Give him points for trying, now let’s be getting to the armory.” replied Tanaka, sliding his SCK/Minebea 9mm pistol into its thigh tactical holster.
Tanaka, Cronfield had M4A1 carbines and AT-4s, Martinez had a P-90 well Dawson was lugging the Saw as they exited the elevator into the main room. “Took you long enough!” shouted the Captain leading the reconnaissance team waiting with his team by the gate. “Sorry sir.” Said Tanaka as his team closed the distance and moved to a nearby position be the M.A.L.P as the star gate began its dialing out sequence. “Tanaka you got point after the M.A.L.P clears it.” Ordered Captain Goodwill well keeping a deadpan expression across his face.
Blue light filled the gate room as the wormhole expanded out then returned as it settled into a stable wormhole. “M.A.L.P en route.” Announced the Operator, well the M.A.L.P moved into place and began moving through the star gate until it disappeared. “Receiving M.A.L.P telemetry.” Announced the Operator and after a few moments it was cleared as safe for passage. “Weapons up, teams of two, I have point.” As Tanaka ordered bringing his M4 up to the ready position, with Dawson at his side as they began moving through the star gate.
Ambient light form the star gate barely illuminated a couple of meters ahead of Tanaka as he swept his M4 from left to right looking for any hostile contact ahead of him ”Nodes on. ”He ordered over his teams net with his headset as he brought down the AN/PVS-14 over one of his eyes, bathing everything in shades of green and letting them see far ahead in the near darkness when he activated it. He heard Cronfield and Martinez come through and their footfalls. “Take up a perimeter.” He ordered as he and his team swept out into a three hundred and sixty degree perimeter around the gate. ”Captain Goodwill it’s clear on this side, over.” He said over his headset soon followed by a confirmation as the other team came through.
Captain Goodwill’s team was on point and Tanaka’s following as they continued their march seeing a terrain shift from open flat land to hilly terrain.” We’re turning around and heading back in the next hour if we don’t find anything and coming back with a jumper.” Ordered Goodwill as he continued leading the pack on the march. To no avail they found nothing and began their long march back towards as sunlight began rising ahead of them as they marched on. “You feel that?” as they all came to a halt as they felt vibrations beneath their feet. Tanaka pulled his life sign detector from a cargo pocket and saw life signs slowly started to appear rapidly across the screen.
Huge Doors to each of the star gate’s flanks slowly lifted open as the two teams got close and expelled fog Tanaka’s team formed staggered defensive lines along each side of Goodwill’s team readying weapons and dropping to a knee on reaction without a single order. Shadowy forms materialized within the fog slowly swaying back and forth. “We come in peace!” bellowed a scientist among goodwill’s team. Ungodly shrieks were the first response then a hail of inaccurate energy bolts flew towards the teams. ”Weapons free, Weapons free!” Roared Tanaka and his team began opening fire on the shadowy forms. “We will activate the gate you keep them distracted.” Responded Goodwill after firing two long burst before he and his team made a B line towards the gate.
“Deploy smoke and center peel!” Barked out Tanaka as he ejected a spent magazine and reloaded his M-4.Smoke grenades flew from the line and began pouring out colored smoke, Dawson was the first up and running and ran through the center of the defensive line tapping Martinez’s shoulder as he passed and dropped to a knee ten meters behind Tanaka and resumed firing, Martinez repeated the process behind Cronfield tapping Tanaka’s shoulder as he passed following Goodwill’s path of advance. Tanaka’s turn came up he rose ceased fire sprinted weapon in one hand tapped Cronfield’s shoulder as he passed past ten meters past dropped to a knee and resumed firing in the direction of the origin of fire of energy bolts as the smoke thickened. Cronfield rose began the same method when he was clipped in his leg by a bolt and tumbled to the ground as he had the sensation of his leg falling asleep, and partial loss of control he picked himself up kept going hobbling on continuing the peel. Tanaka was hit in the arm dropping his rifle his sling held it against his chest well he pulled his 9mm and began firing with it. They left a trail of casing and empty magazines in their wake.
Tanaka’s Team close to the gate each hit by these stunners on his order broke from the peel and assisted each other, as they hobbled and limped through smoke toward the gate. ”Stop or I’ll shoot.” Said a shaky voiced scientist until his P90 was slapped down by Goodwill. “Let’s get out of this place.” Said Goodwill as his team laid down a sheet of fire as they all withdrew through the star gate. “That’s One hell of final mission.” Laughed out Dawson as they all were being examined by Doctors and nurses by the shutdown Star Gate.
Collab with Forsythe
-------------------
The bare concrete walls of SGC were as depressing as ever, but at least this time around, Catherine didn’t have to record this on tape and deliver it to a micromanaging IOA member. She supposed the long wait was well worth it.
Still, the pile of files in front of her was rather large. Better get to it. she thought, taking the first five files. The first batch should be arriving in 15 minutes, barely enough time for her to read through them once. Once done, she pressed the little button on the intercom and summoned the first candidate in.
Miyako was arrived for the interview for the mission rather early. It’s not like she got much else to do anyways. Her schedule was free for a long time, even her missions were cancelled for this it seemed. Once the intercom activated and the female voice was heard calling her name in, Miyako quickly rose up from her place and proceeded towards the room where the interviews were going to take place.
Entering the room the doctor quickly saluted the superior officer inside.” Miyako Sora, Lt. Colonel at your disposal ma’am!” She stated.
“At ease, colonel.” Kat said, standing up to return the salute. “Please take a seat. I apologize for the surroundings, but this place was never big on comfort. I’ll try not to keep you too long.” the general said and sat down herself.
“Your file is rather impressive. Not many find the time to finish studies AND rank as high as you do. Doctors with field experience are quite rare, and someone I will need where we’re going. I’d like to know not about you though, but to know you. Can you tell me why you volunteered for this mission?” Catherine opened.
After giving the general a ‘thank you’ and taking the proposed seat, Miyako had a smile on her face. She expected this much from the interview” I just saw it as the next logical step forwards.” The doctor replied with a smile. I have nothing much to tie me to this place and I’m both soldier and doctor. My place is there where my services will be most required. Because of the nature of the mission I concluded my skills will be of best use there.” The japanese woman stated with serious voice.” I do have my own personal desire to go forward towards the unknown too though. I won’t lie about that… Those are the reasons behind my volunteering for the mission.”
Kat listened patiently, making mental notes. Confident. Interested. But honest and motivated? We shall see. She opened Miyako’s folder to check if she remembered right. “What about your parents? Most people wouldn’t classify their family as ‘nothing much to tie them to this place’.” she inquired. It was a personal question, sure. but on this mission, the psychological well being - and worth - counted as well.
“Ahh…” Miyako made a not really surprised sound. She expected this question to come out eventually. It was only natural to do so. Taking a second to think about how to say it, she looked straight at the general’s eyes to show her determination.” The matter with my parent’s is something that has been dealt with years ago. Both they broke ties with me and I broke ties with them. Even legally they are no longer connected to me. That was the decision we reached all those years back.” The doctor stated with calm and serious voice. She had nothing to hide, nor she wanted to hide anything.” My only relative that still keep connection with me is my younger sister, but she knows I’m a soldier. She knows we can be send to faraway places and some never return from there. That’s just the nature of things and as someone from military house she knows that.”
“That’s why I stated I have nothing to tie me to Earth.” Miyako said in the end, content in replying to the general’s question.
Nodding in understanding, the general thought for a few seconds. “How much contact did you have with alien species? What do you think of the Jaffa, or the Tok’Ra?” she asked, choosing to withhold the fact that some might be joining the mission for now.
“First thing is first: I have nothing against both Jaffa or Tok’Ra.” The doctor replied quickly.” I’ve served with many of them on number of different occasions on missions. While Jaffa’s I admit do kind of tend to cause troubles and bring huge cultural misunderstandings, they are also loyal to their word… and they make for a very good sparring partners.” She added in the end with a smile.” Tok’Ras, them I find slightly different. I hold them in high esteem as all of them are old and wise, not to mention very knowledgable. I enjoy being around them and talk with them when the chance presents itself.”
Nodding a little absent mindedly, Catherine’s thoughts briefly wandered towards one Tok’Ra in particular. She quickly found her focus again though. “Very good. The truth is some might be joining the ship’s crew, and while they both possess heightened healing abilities and the healing devices… how much experience do you have in treating them?” the general inquired further, but with obviously more relaxed tone. This particular candidate looked good.
“I understand and I’m not actually very surprised about that though. Since we are allies it makes sense to have them also take part of the missions. I personally think they will be of great aid.” Miyako stated at the nice and not entirely surprising news about the most likely possibility of both Tok’Ra and Jaffa being on the
mission.
“While I’m not an expert on xenobiology, I have treated wounded Jaffa on couple of occasions. While their healing strength is greater than us humans, since many now don’t have symbiotes those healing powers are lowered and they do require some medical aid. I have the skills and knowledge to provide them with medical service should the need arrives.” Miyako replied with serious voice and then continued.” As for Tok’Ra… with them the situation is once again slightly different. I have not had the chance to provide them with medical services or to examine them. Still I have went through every documentation we have on the symbiotes. Should the worst happen and we have no Tok’Ra capable of operating the healing devices I should be able to provide medical services on them to some degree…”
Silently thinking over the answer, Catherine made her decision. “Very well. I believe you would make for a fine addition to the crew. Welcome aboard Colonel.” she eventually said with a smile. “Now, I’m not sure to what extent have you been briefed about the mission and equipment, communication in this area tends to be rather unsatisfactory I found out. Is there something you wish to ask of me?” the general offered.
“I’m honored!” Miyako replied at her acceptance into the mission. She was happy about it as she always wanted to go out there and see new things. The mere fact they visited other worlds was already something most thought as impossible, yet she was doing it on regular basis. Now she was going to go out there to places where even people from SGC never visited before!
“Actually there is this one thing... “ The doctor said and made a puzzled expression.” Many years ago a family heirloom was passed down to me by my grandfather - an ancient katana. I took it with myself when I left Japan so it’s with me here. It’s something extremely precious that I can’t just leave behind. I would like for permission to bring it with me on the ship.” Miyako stated her request awaiting reply.
“Heh, certainly. The chief designer of our ship is a friend of mine and he put thought into where and for how long we’ll be going. Compared to a 304 everyone will get personal quarters, so personal items would be safe. As long as you don’t intend to go Jack Churchill and actually bring it on missions.” Catherine winked. “Very well, if that is all? I’d like to talk some more, but there will be time for that on board. I’m sure you have arrangements to make now, and me… more paperwork...” Kat sighed, tapping the heap of files next to her.
After quickly standing up from her seat, Miyako quickly saluted the general once more before headed out of the room.
Taking a break after the first five interviews, Catherine headed to the mess hall to grab a mug of coffee and something to eat. She was put into good moods from the start when she recruited a capable doctor, one who looked a bit more pleasant that Joseph on the Langford. The next four were a bit less perspective, but she managed to snag two marines at the very least.
One tuna sandwich later, Kat was back in the chair and studying the file of the next person with vigilance. She didn’t like anyone employed by the IOA to be on her ship, but they didn’t push this person forward and she actually seemed to have some skills that would be usable at least in the first part of the mission. that, and she couldn’t say she hated the idea of being able to pass diplomatic talks to someone else.
Pushing the button, she waited for a Hannah Evans to arrive.
Hannah couldn’t deny, while this was technically an IOA assignment this wasn’t why she was doing it. The Asgard were fascinating, both to speak to and their history and knowledge. Not many people could tell the difference between individual Asgard, and few could identify them by voice she liked to think she was one of the few. They were more interesting than people gave them credit for and their loss truly was a loss. A file went to slip out of her hands, and she swooped down in the least elegant way possible.
It was just a pity that Mr.Williams aide had called in sick, so she was nearly running late to her interview with the captain being burdened by numerous files. She really wanted to slap Iona right now. Outside the office was security officer, “Mind if I leave these on the seat?” He shook his head. “Thanks, you’re a star.” She left the files down, knocked on the door and went in.
She moved over to the desk, offering her hand. “Mis- General Black it’s an absolute pleasure-” The offer sincere, enthusiasm evident in her voice. This wasn’t a political gesture she was truly thrilled to even be discovered. She had read some of Blacks files while at Homeworld Command and had seen her a couple of times, though hadn’t actually spoken to her before (Previously just being an aide and all).
“Funny, I didn’t know I looked that great.” Kat snickered at Evans’ choice of words. “Please.” she said, offering the other seat. The woman in front of her looked quite young, but the file said she had ample qualification none the less. The general supposed that IOA work left one with enough free time to study - who knew.
“I am going to be honest here Ms. Evans, your previous work experiences are not exactly appealing. I do not need a bench body whose only purpose is to look over my shoulder and question every decision I make on this mission. However, you do have other qualification that is actually interesting and your superiors strangely didn’t push for you to be on board regardless of what I have to say, so - convince me that I want you along.” she said straight from the start, choosing to let her make her own introduction. After all, if she was to represent Earth, she needed to sell herself to the audience.
“Well to be honest I don’t have any intention to micromanage or judge your every move-” She laughed nervously, she supposed all the IOA members who did that promised as much… “-First and foremost I want to represent Earth, and have the experience to do so. I’ve worked with the Asgard on several occasions. Usually as an aide but I have had contact with them. I’ve got my degree in history which always turns out more useful in this program than you’d think.” She laughed nervously again that, she should really stop doing that.
“Most importantly I’ve studied the Asgard. I’ve been lucky enough to find some spare time with access to the Asgard Knowledge stored within the cores aboard several of our ships, and I’ve memorized a lot off it. The chance to go to Ida would be… amazing and I feel that my historical knowledge, knowledge on the Asgard and diplomatic skills would be useful. Also you may have noticed, but I’m not an elderly gentleman and am physically fit for if we get into action.” She smiled somewhat proud of herself, why was she more comfortable around IOA members and aliens than trying to work an interview with a human General?
Listening patiently, Catherine had to admit to herself that she was getting sold. True, the Asgard were not around anymore - at least not in Ida as far as SGC knew - but as far as any species that might have known them… It might be useful to have someone who knew how the Asgard kept friendly with them and follow up on it.
“Good.” she said with a raised eyebrow. “So, is your personal interest part of why you volunteered for this? You do understand it could be a one way trip right? You’re only twenty-five, are you sure you want to leave for that long?” She gathered she would be asking that question around a lot. It didn’t get much easier with time.
Hannah merely shrugged. “It’s why I applied for this, yes.” She smiled. “Also it’s a one way trip to about the same extent as Atlantis and there were people my age on that expedition. I won’t bring Destiny into it because those people didn’t volunteer for that trip, but they do still go to another planet so that counts. I’m happy to go, I mean it’s the trip of a lifetime I doubt anyone will say no to it!”
“Fair enough.” the general nodded. “You mentioned you have worked with the Asgard. Have you had any experience with other races? I believe you are aware of my former command, I would hope to work with them again. How do you feel about our closer neighbors, like the Jaffa or the Tok’Ra?”
“I’ve worked closer with the Jaffa than the Tok’ra while we’ve been trying to help them rebuild after the Ori Invasion and helping them establish themselves as one nation with a diplomatic system. Tok’ra of course are a much older race and inhabit less of the stars so I’ve not has much contact with them. They’re two very different races. Jaffa are still not fully used to having this freedom but are loyal and honour bound. Though this does sometimes cause tension with a cool head and propor explanation and understanding anything can usually be solved.”
“Tok’ra are difficult to work with for another reason, by necessity they’ve grown to be a secretive race. Though they are also wise, kind and selfless. So both races I look forward to working with and have no problem with. Other than that I’ve just had some contact with some minor world's, those from Hebridan for example.”
Kat was warming up to the idea. Sure, there were dozens of archeologists and linguists more to pick from, but not many boffins would probably also be able to do diplomacy, and if she refused Evans, the IOA would eventually push someone less agreeable on board, she was almost certain of that. So unless Atlantis would liberate Dr. Jackson for her mission…
“Alright, I believe that would be all for now. Please, have a nice day.” Kat said, taking another file to appear uninterested. As Hannah was walking out, she called out: “I’ll see you on board Ms. Evans.”
Hannah stood up, a little disheartened at first until SHE heard the General call out to her. She walked out the room her face beaming, as the excitement of what she was going to do hit her. Now, all she had to do was get herself ready. Though first, where were those files she had been carrying? Then she saw Iona peeking round the corner. “Iona! Get back here!”
Smiling at the reaction, Kat picked up a folder from the top of the heap: “NEXT!”
OOC: With Forsythe. You may now board.
In the main control office at Homeworld command people were running around frantically, paper was changing hands rapidly and voices were being raised to relay vital pieces of information over the rest of the noise going on. It seemed like chaos but actually worked more like a well oiled machine. O’Neill saw Walter bringing Black towards him and he pointed towards his office before walking in, once they were in he directed her towards the seat and took his own.
“Glad you could make it so quickly Catherine, I know you have a ship to get ready and a new crew and all but we’re going to need you first.”
The summon was unexpected but given the most interesting thing she did last few hours was ticking boxes on a cargo manifest, she left right away.
“No problem, in fact I could use a distraction. What do you have in mind?” she asked, wondering what one would need an explorer ship for in the Milky Way. She figured they just couldn’t spare any 304, so they looked at the only ship parked on the orbit.
“We’re in need of a ship with your speed and skills. What do you know off the mission to P5X-404 or P3F-964?” The seriousness of the situation would likely be prevalent, he was straight to the point.
“We should really start naming those.” Catherine grunted, trying to remember those reports. “Not that much. We found a bunch of refugees from all over Goa’Uld space, they got in trouble, we helped them out. Not much contact with them since. Correct?” she asked for confirmation.
“Short version. They called themselves the Pack, I got shot at by killer robots. They helped, we offered to help and form an Alliance. Some time travellers appeared including my daughter - Don’t ask. We did some stuff, went for the alliance and the Aschen showed up and caused havoc with a ship that can cloak and do all kinds of nasty drone related and weapon related things.” He leaned back in his chair. “We then kicked some butt, evacuated the Pack from their main ship and found them a planet to live on.”
He shrugged. “We’ve had some periodic contact with them, helping them adapt to a planet borne society and some trade deals here and there borrowed some ships when we needed them. Though they’ve missed a check in, we can’t dial them. We can’t reach them on subspace. Last contact seemed fine but they were experiencing some difficulty with their vegetation. We’re assuming the Aschen are out for some retribution and we need a ship there, fast.”
“Done.” Kat nodded after she processed the information. “My crew is almost complete, we can pick up the stragglers before we leave the Milky way. Most are specialists and or aliens, not in much need of training with the ship’s systems. For all intents and purposes we’re ready to leave immediately.” she informed.
“Just hang fire on that one, I want you to double check her systems first. We’ve sent enough ships into combat half tested. This wasn’t the shakedown cruise I really wanted for the Nyx but with the Aschens ability to cloak and deal a punch she’s about the only ship that can do this solo. Couple of things, if they breach your hull seal and pull back. Last thing we need is them getting a chemical weapon on board. The main energy weapon is extremely powerful and it can release swarms of drones. Your main priority is to get in, get any survivors back to Earth and get out. Take out the Aschen ship if you can but I don’t want you at risk trying to do so.” He pushed over a file. “Carter went against it head on, that’s her report on everything she noticed about it and it includes my report from inside the ship. Just ignore the fact that there are two off me. You should be used to this craziness by now.”
“Any questions?”
Quickly eyeballing the file, she figured not much more would be known on a ship that can go invisible. “Can you recall any particular weak point? Me and Dr. Lawson came up with a possible way to accurately hit from beyond their sensor range using a five-four-seven to paint the target for the Nyx’s main guns. It might be easier to dispose of the ship that way.”
“Well the obvious option is the drone launch, though I don’t know if Carter managed to pinpoint where it was. This is the first time I’ve looked at the file for years. Everythings in there, though the issue with targeting the ship is you’ll need to find it first and they’re fast little buggers. You might need to get dirty for this one Catherine I’m afraid.” He did have a somewhat regrettable look on his face.
“If they’re poisoning them with biological weapons, they’ll be holed up and observing. I think you might be right.” she nodded with a frown. “Well, the pre-flight will take some time, I best be on my way then.” she suggested, her eyes already pointing to the file and dissecting it word by word.
“Off you pop then, bon voyagé, don’t screw up, with great power comes great something or other.” He looked down at his desk before looking up again. “You still here?”
By the time the general looked up and asked, the chair in front of him was already empty and he was alone in the office.
“Good girl.”
Miyako proudly stood at the place from where she and the rest of the ship staff group, she was part off, was going to get beamed into the Nyx. She spend a good while preparing for this departure and packed herself a lot of luggage to bring. She had her big back pack and a huge duffle bag to go along with it. Additionally behind her right shoulder, a long thin bag could be seen in which she had her heirloom katana. She had already secured it with sturdy cord that was connected to a small steel lock so the blade can’t be drawn from the sheath. Overall she had prepared everything needed to give her new room a good cozy feeling to it, at least going by her own standards that is.
Suddenly she heard the familiar sound made when you are being beamed up. One moment you are down on earth and around the mountains, next you are on board a spaceship and surrounded by metal… She smiled as she quickly began to walk down the corridors trying to reach her new living place. She didn’t really know the layout of the ship very well. She was just quickly briefed on how to reach her quarters. Still most earth’s ships followed the same basic logic behind the layout.
After finally finding her room she quickly made her way inside. It seemed quite alright. In fact she could place all her things with no problem and still have some place left. It was clearly better than having shared quarters and it was going to be quite useful for the long trip this ship was going to have. After hastily getting her things out of the bags, she quickly put the clothes away. Then she went ahead and placed the katana near the bed, quickly securing it in place, as for the rest of the things, she was going to take care of them later. For now she wanted to go and check the sickbay. She needed to know exactly what sort of equipment she had available. As such she quickly left her quarters and started to navigate her way around the ship to find the sickbay.
This assignment was already proving to be worth it. In the span of few days not only did she got to fly one of the biggest ships Earth has ever constructed, but now she was bringing up the dropship from Area 51 as well. The design was appallingly utilitarian, reminding her more of a Tel'Tak inspired box rather than a ship of any sort. Still, the only thing left on her list now was the R-547, and she'd figure out some way to get her hands on it's stick.
Guiding the craft into the docking port on the side of the Nyx, she let the airlock cycle and told the deckhands where the supplies they brought on board were to go. She read those were some components for new weapons systems and remembered Philip mentioning something about that. Kat slung her luggage on her shoulder and walked to her quarters.
Her cabin was located on the command deck, something she both liked and disliked. It wasn't her thing to distinguish herself from the crew, however it was better the CO was close to the C&C for one thing, and being on a different deck, either her or the XO would always live if a lucky strike pierced one of the decks and obliterated one of them.
The cabin itself was too big for her standards, but given that it was split into two compartments and also doubled as an office, she got over it. Truth to be told, the Nyx was a luxury liner for everyone compared to a 304, even the lowest grunt. Dumping her bag on the bed along the one she dropped off before, she could finally shed the god awful ground side uniform and change to the jumpsuit. They were just plain comfortable to start with.
She instructed the command crew to begin the pre-flight check and went to tour the ship to make sure all departments were ready.
Tanaka finished his call with his mother politely finishing it as she was continuing to ramble on and gently placed the phone on its receiver. He slid his newly issued tan plate carrier over his JGSDF flecktarn fatigues, and adjusting it to be a comfortable and snug fit. Grabbing his duffle bag loaded down with what few possessions he had, and grabbed his folded up order and stuffed them into his pocket he left the temporary quarters he had since he arrived from Atlantis. He arrived at the staging area and joined the group preparing to be beamed aboard and saw a Japanese women with a lot of baggage along among many others in the group.
Sound of being beam aboard the nyx could be heard and he subconsciously began holding his breath because he hated it, because he has jumped from planes and helicopters, rappelled from hovering helicopters, there was always an impact on landing with beaming aboard ships there was no impact. On arrival he realized he was holding his breath and released it in a long sigh, movement around him brought him back to reality. He slung his duffel pack onto his shoulder and began moving; He arrived finally at his quarters and laid his duffel bag out across his bunk.
Tanaka didn't mind the size of the room he has had smaller quarters and began organizing his belongings and placed his plate carrier, spare uniform, and boots within the locker. He left his quarters and began a walk through to learn the interior of the ship in case he needed seeing end her or an emergency. Seeing a handful of marines also doing the same as him, He introduced himself and joined the small band as they began their recon of their new home.
Lawson
Lawson was sitting beside the fire in the old farm house when he got the call. "-All right General." He turned to see his daughter walk in. "Yeah, I'll be there in the morning. Have a pleasant evening." He hit the hangup button and the phone beeped as he put it on the small table beside his recliner, picking up the TV remote he hit mute. "That looks like that'll be me Ruth." She came in and sat on one of the other seats. "Already? You just got back a week ago." Lawson just shrugged. "You know what it's like, I go where I'm needed-""And don't come back till the jobs done, I know. It's just I miss you Dad."
At times like this, Lawson really wanted to tell her what he did. Though while he originally didn't believe in secrecy he had grown accustomed too it, and knew how important it was. "I know Ruth. Though I just need you to believe that what I'm doing is important.""Though you can't tell me?" Lawson just let loose a sad smile. "That's the rule. I wish I could, I really do but I can't." She sat forward a bit. "Not even if I pinky swear?" Phillip just laughed. "Not even if you pinky swear. Though for now, lets just enjoy it while I'm here as you know I could be gone for a while." She smiled. "Yeah, I know.""So what's going on with you? I've already caught up with you but there has to be more."
"Well..."
Next Day
Lawson put his clean clothes down on his bed, everything else he needed was already on board. After that he took to the bridge, there was a reason he called called back so quickly. He'd need to find out, and make sure everyone did the pre-flight correctly. It was the first time for some of these officers doing a pre-flight aboard the Nyx. They were already powering up, and going through the checklist. He walked onto the centre podium and a SF behind him stepped forward. "Sir, that's the Generals spot." Lawson just turned back. "Don't worry, I designed the ship. Besides, the Generals a friend of mine."
He stood on the podium and input his command code, bringing up his own screens. "Alright people-" They looked at him and he winked. "-Don't worry I'm not in charge of the ship just checking you're doing everything right." He pointed to one of them. "No need to be so gentle, she's been flown before. She works fine. You got your green light bring them online." He then looked around at the rest of them. "Rest of you are fine, so far. Don't worry I don't bite, the General might though. So lets get this right before she gets here."
Well if nothing else the layout of this ship certainly had some differences in comparison to the 304s. Having some difficulty with locating the sickbay, a thing which she as a person responsible for the health of the people on board couldn’t allow to happen, she decided to ask someone for directions.
After finally finding someone who was already onboard for a while, Miyako was finally able to head in to precise direction of the sickbay. It took a little bit of time as this wasn’t exactly the smallest ship, but eventually she stepped through the door of the sickbay. After quickly greeting the couple of other people in her new workplace, she proceeded with inspecting the equipment and checking the medical supplies that were stocked at the place. While they knew there was additional supply at the storage rooms, they needed to know exactly what was at the sickbay and in what amounts.
“Phew…. Finally… we are done with the checklist. Is everything accounted for?”
Miyako asked the rest of the medical staff. They akk split up to check everything as fast as possible. After receiving positive reply from everyone she sighed in relieve.” Alright, I’m going to go to familiarize myself with the layout of the ship more. I can’t have myself getting lost if I’m called to emergency now can I?” She said with a smile as she left the sickbay.
Walking around the ship, she realized two things. First the ship lived up to her expectations and secondly that it was going to take time to get used to it. She wondered she would be able to access the ship database and take a look at the layout. It was going to make memorizing it that much easier.
While being deep in though, the Miyako nearly bumped into a group of marines. She stopped herself just before that happened as they met on a cross section in the corridors.” Ahh… please excuse me. I’m still trying to learn where is everything on this ship… “ She apologized for nearly crashing into the soldiers.
” My name is Miyako Sora by the way. Nice to meet all of you.” She greeted them all as she presented her name.” I’m one of the medical staff so I foresee we will be meeting a lot.” She said with a smile.
“ Does someone from you knows where the Mess hall is located by chance?” She asked them finally. She was trying to form a map in her head with where the most important places were. From there she was going to build on top of that till she memorizes the entire ship.
Tanaka and the marines had been exploring the ship for a while and were returning from armory, after inspecting the new tools of their trade. They exited a lift coming back onto the crew deck. “Well I'm going to return to my quarters." Said Tanaka to the group a minute before they were approached, by the women he earlier saw with all the luggage before beaming aboard.
Mam, it was the first place we found, second lieutenant Masaru, Tanaka, Home world command, and representative of Japanese ground defense forces." Said Tanaka as he stepped forward from the group of Marines. "Mam it is mid rats right now since the ship is taking on personal, it isn't far from the crew quarters." He said as he remembered the routes he has taken.
"It is on this deck, section four, passage way six, and the sixth door on the right, am." He said as he had reversed the route back to the mess hall in his head. "If need I can escort you there mam." Offered Tanaka as a faint memory returned of his first time on a ship. During a training with the USMC on an assault ship
The first location Black decided to check was the hangar. She couldn't believe she still didn't see the R-547 in any way than on paper given she was the one pushing it's development. It didn't take long to find though. Compared to the god awful, crude, angular F-302s, the refined shape of the recon plane stood out. That, and it was about twice as long.
She reached out and touched the tip. The cockpit stuck forward, the large canopy giving the pilot a great field of view. behind the neck were the many sensors and power plant, surrounded on both sides by combine engine and missile pods. The body had two small wings she guessed worked as radiators, seeing as there was no reason for this craft to enter atmosphere. The whole hull seemed close to a lifting body design, but that was more likely to get rid of angles on the surface.
The bay was a swarm of activity - they beamed the supplies in and loaded the fighters, but now the 302s had to actually be armed and fueled. It reminded Catherine that she still had to pick a squadron leader, but other than their files and brief interviews, she had nothing to go on. First they'd have to show her how they fly, and until then she could direct them from the ship.
“Nice to meet you lieutenant, I’m honored by your formal greeting.” Miyako replied with a smile and slight nod of her head in respect.” I suppose, I must present myself properly in return then. Lt. Colonel Miyako Sora, Home world command.” She stated respectfully as was proper. When someone greets you so formally it’s only proper to return that gesture.
“Thank you lieutenant, I will be honored to have you escort me to the Mess hall.” The doctor said with a smile as she turned to follow the path the man told her.” I’m a little ashamed to admit it, but I seem to have difficulty navigating this ship… hahaha…” Miyako nervously laughed.” I have no problems around the old 304 or the Goa’uld vessels for some reason though. I think, I’m to used to the old designs”
“So lieutenant, what do you think of our impending mission? Any thoughts on what we may find in the future?” She asked him while they walked. She was pretty certain one thing was going to be found… some new kind of enemy… if not more than one. They went to Pegasus and found wraiths and replicators... who knew what lurked where they were heading to.
Tanaka just about fell over when he found out he was speaking to a lieutenant Colonel and straightened his back and stood a little straighter, he began the march to the mess hall kind of surprised how young she was for the rank. ”I know the feeling mam, the first week after I was deployed to Atlantis I got lost every two minutes and, it took me two weeks to figure out the layout of the city, mam.” He said as he stifled a chuckle to himself as he marched on. “I have been serving on Atlantis for the last year and half, I was a search and rescue team leader and assisted in security.” He said as he continued on.
He paused for a second in his steps then quickly resumed walking. ”That is a little above my pay grade, but in my professional opinion, I am here to keep this ship’s crew safe and unharmed and to deal with any hostile threats that come are way .” he replied well he was contemplating something in his head as before he continued. “I personally feel that if it has hostile intent towards any member of the crew I will not hesitate to drop it, anything else I’ll let the scientist and diplomats handle it, I’m not good with diplomacy, mam.” He stated just before they arrived.
The two arrived in a large mess hall with metal tables and chairs and a long serving island. It was fairly empty due to they were only serving simple quick foods such as hamburger and sandwiches well the ship was getting under way. “Here is the mess hall mam for your dining delights, is there anything else that I may assist you with Mam?” He asked as turned on his heel facing Lieutenant Colonel Sora
Elena followed a group towards the location where they were scheduled to be beamed up to the Nyx, carrying with her a backpack as well as a duffle bag, filled with her personal items as well as what looked like a guitar case. Having this reassignment at the very last minute, given to her by General O'Neil, closing her eyes she relaxed as she heard the beaming start and instantly she opened them again seeing that she was now in the ship. It felt completely different from a 304, watching as a few of the people who beamed up with her scatter Elena decided to walk around the ship before reporting to the captain.
Searching around the halls everything was labeled like most ships were she eventually found the crew quarters and opened one of the vacant rooms and noticed that they were a lot bigger then her previous quarters were, tossing her bags onto the bed. She looked around the room and spotted a few jumpsuits in the closet. Spending about ten minutes putting all of her things away she walked out of her quarters and started walking down the hallway. As she walked down the hallway Elena looked over at two crew members who appeared to be Asian one of them a female and the other a male who she could have recognized in her previous assignment at Atlantis, though she never had the time to get to know him or even knew his name.
Where she wanted to go however was more interesting to her was the hangar bay, taking her a few minutes of walking down the hallways she finally found the hangar bay. Elena walked down the deck seeing ten F-302's on either end of the room, she smiled widely remembering her first time flying one was during Anubis' invasion of Earth although she remembered getting shot down by one of the Goa'uld Death Gliders. The F-302's looked vaguely like the Death Gliders, but they were way better she thought.
Then Elena turned around to look at a newer looking ship one she hadn't seen before and started to approach it and slowly ran her hand along the hull of it.
Hearing another set of footsteps, the general didn't yet see the person that came to admire the spacecraft. Coming around, hey eyes fell on a blond woman, not much younger than herself as far as she could tell. It felt a little strange, how one reassignment because of a car accident meant the end of her flying days, and yet despite how she hated it, here she was with a general rank, something many of the flyboys dream of. She'd trade them any time.
Judging by the interest in the plane, dared she say reverence, this one was definitely a pilot. "Beautiful, isn't she?" Catherine said, the name tag quickly reminding her of who was before her. "Came to check out the new merchandise, Lieutenant?"
“Ohh, so you were stationed at Atlantis, 2nd Lieutenant? Then that explains why we haven’t met until now.” Miyako said with a smile. She always wanted to someday go see the city of the ancients herself, but haven’t had the pleasure to do that yet. Maybe one day in the future it was going to happen?” Well then, I can be sure we are in good hands. They don’t let just anybody be a team leader.”
“Ahh yes, there are no doubts there will be enemies where we are going. It’s only natural for it to be so, besides we don’t know anything about what was going on in Ida. There could be leftover replicators or ever another dangerous enemy we haven’t even heard of yet.” The lt. Colonel smiled.” Don’t worry, 2nd lieutenant, not everyone is good at politics, I myself prefer to stay as far away from the political games as possible. It’s such a pain to have to keep a nice smile even if you absolutely despise the other side.”
“Hmmm… can I call you Takana? Because calling you 2nd lieutenant all the time will get confusing if there are others of that rank around us?” She asked him with a small laugh. “Well now that you showed me the mess hall, have you passed by the armory? That was my next destination of search.”
