Chapter One: Rumors and Daylight

Time: 6:30 am - 1 hour before classes begin

Thousands of students poured into the Academy. The start of the new school year brought with it an energetic air that flowed into the students and created an excited mood among them. As the largest school of Noble Arms in the Philippines, the crowds that formed during the start of the school year were no joke. They formed a veritable sea of people as students mingled in the courtyard, a popular hangout spot for the students. Others were scattered about, each finding a spot were they could pass the time until classes begun.

Of course, though the students were excited about more than just the new imminent beginning of the new semester, there was something more in the rumor mill that circulated among them:

The identity of the new Director.

Five months ago, the previous Director of the school, Rupert Rodriguez, had passed away due to a heart-attack, leaving the postion vacant. Now, apparently, a new Director had been appointed, though the identity of the person was inexplicably unknown. None of the students were aware of who the person was; they didn't even know if the person was a teacher affiliated with the school.

Rumors sprung up about who the person was, each one getting more extreme than the last. Some said that the new Director was a teacher high-up on the chain of command, others theorized that they were the one responsible for the death of the previous Director in order to take the position. Another train of thought led to some students thinking that it was a military conspiracy meant to take over the school completely.

Whatever the case, everyone was waiting expectantly for the new Director to make their first public appearance.
While all the discussion and activity went on, the focus of everyone's curiosity looked down from the top of the schools main tower. Blood-red eyes swept across the student body with unconcealed contempt.

"Weak. So very, very weak."

His voice was deep, smooth baritone. It was unbearably pleasant to the ears; it was as though the devil himself spoke, tempting you, and the though the soul rejected its call, the body gravitated towards it.

He ran his hand through his hair, his lips curling into a thin smile.

"Well, that's what I'm here for, I suppose."

Turning around, the Director paced through his room, and stepped outside, and whether it was real or imagined, a chilling wave spread throughout the school.
Excitement and rumor mongering rarely ever ended in nothing but simple discussion. Tension was already high, and in a school filled with students that possessed weapons on their persons constantly, it was inevitable the fights broke out. And indeed, even though it was the very first day, there was already a fight on the way.

"Listen here you bitch, just try and repeat that again!" a large student carrying an axe in hand scowled deeply at a short girl brown-headed girl with red highlights.

"Sure! Here, listen loud and clear you jackass: You're a fucking moron and you should keep your moronic opinions to yourself! I don't know how you graduated from grade-school, with a brain like yours!"

Very few teachers had arrived at school yet, and the guards were busy parsing through the large rush of students entering the school to react to the fight. A few instructors were already alerted, and rushing to the scene, but it would be a few minutes before they arrived.

The students had formed a ring around the two in conflict. Some looking on worryingly, others cheering them on. Still others ignored them and went about their own business. Some were taking bets.

The large young man snarled and brandished his axe, and lightning erupted from its edges.

The girl narrowed her eyes, and pair of flintlocks materialized in her hands.

The two stared at each other, daring them to make the first move.

Yuri had barley noticed the two arguing untel he called the girl a "bitch." Yuri shook his head and turned around to face the two. He was right behind the girl, when he entered the arena made by students he made his way toward them speaking in a hushed tone as he walked. "Excuse me, but I don't think this is a very good time to fight." He said with a smile as he took his last steps between the two he back now facing the girl. "Sir it's quite polite to say that to women." Yuri pretended to be happy but he was carefully watching the boy just incase he made a move. Yuri had easy access to both promise and betrayal since they were in his breast holsters. Not to mention at the range Yuri was at he'd have a favorable chance of just disarming him. The girl on the other hand she could strike and there would be nothing he could do, he was truly at her disposal.

But she didn't seem like the type to just strike down a friendly peacekeeper, the guy he was facing though reminded him of a minotaur axe in hand and as angry as a bull. "Look buddy no one wants to fight in sure you'd be able to see that if you'd just calm down, we're all friends here.

Takumi was staring impassively at the scene from the sidelines. He'd arrive earlier, but a holdup saw to it that he had to stand around in the queues and wait. Takumi wasn't really averse to waiting, he was usually patient, but the growing discontent of the crowd-beast got on his nerves.
Conflicts felt like brushfires.

For a moment he debated whether to break the fight up, but then another student butted in, and Takumi settled for getting some warm-up practice done. He lightly tapped the hilt of his weapon and closed his eyes, soon opening them again, a slight metallic sheen on his irises.

He became deeply aware of the social links and cues tying the crowd and the fighters, taking in glances, breathing and patterns of behaviour.
"I wonder, what are these two fighting about?"

Michael Tremont looked upon the gates with a smirk. Last year he achieved above Rank 1000, which was optimal for his age. However, there wasn't a lot of time left at this school. Reaching Rank One was imperative this year. He took out a notebook and pen in his pocket and began writing in it.

"Day One, hour before school. I have arrived at the school gate and analysing new students. None have shown off their noble arm yet. Need more data." He began to write. It wasn't long until a crowd at the doors was gathering, which most likely symbolised a fight. That was where his first piece of data is. Michael crossed out his last sentence as he walked up to the crowd and found a good angle. After that, he began writing again.

Need more data. First fight of the year found. Participants:

One girl, small frame, two flintlock pistols

One boy, large frame, battle axe

Is gender or size related to a Master's noble arm? Need more data.

Michael didn't decide to write about the person who was trying to stop the fight, not until he decided to use his own noble arm. Michael stood quietly, switching from watching the scene, looking down and writing.

Nishka yawned, it seemed exciting but they were both just staring at each other doing nothing. That wasn't any fun, even worse, someone was trying to mediate the fight. Most everyone was watching, cause what else would they do, but it seemed if it continued like this nothing would happen. She tossed a rock up and down in her hand, about half the size of an apple. Good enough to leave a nice bruise if it hit someone.

Her bag was held in her other hand and she popped a bubble before speaking up loudly, "Moneys on gun girl, if she's not too much of a chicken to fight!" Hopefully that would be enough to provoke them. For some reason people found the thought of being a chicken very irritating, despite their usefulness. She was tempted to clobber one of them and turn their attention on her, but watching a fight was less strenuous then fighting one, though usually about as fun. Ignoring the resulting stares Nishka simply popped another bubble. They just wished they had brought bubble gum.

Takumi noticed a grungy, colorful girl. Her desire for a fight to erupt was obvious from her slightly adversarial posture, although, she apparently didn't want to fight — her posture was hidden under a slouch.

He shrugged. He could defuse the situation, but didn't feel much of a need to, yet. "I guess, none of the students here are wimps enough to be seriously hurt from the tussle."

Instead, he calmly walked around the quarter of the crowd-ring, semi-consciously slipping into weird and erratic shudderstep, coming up to the colorful girl from the side.
— What are you doing? — He calmly asked, his voice low and collected.

Every day felt like a Monday and how she hated Mondays. As the days went on, it was becoming more of an effort to drag herself out of the comfort of her blankets every morning. She often toyed with the idea of skipping lessons and claiming to be unwell, she very much doubted she could ever get away with it. The sunlight had barely cast itself through the dormitories curtains when Cătălina was already up and about, silently plodding from one place to another, gathering the items she needed to perform her morning rituals before the rest of the room began to stir. There was always a fight for the bathroom, every morning without fail. Thankfully, the rest of room-mates had not understood that waking up just half an hour earlier helped you miss the morning rush and Cătălina was definitely willing to lose that small amount of shut eye for a bit of peace and quiet. Hairbrush, wash cloth, clothes, eyeliner – why did she ever bother with eyeliner? As she pondered upon her morning habits, she found herself in the shared bathroom, looking around in dismay. Discarded damp towels, hair care products cast around the sink and had that tap been running all night? Gods, these people were children! Well, some of them were still classed as children, but still! Even toddlers learned to clean up after themselves!

Inhale.
Exhale.
Inhale.
Exhale.

This was an easy fix. Just throw the towels in the wash bag, organize the bottles and the tap was about to be used anyway. There was no sense in throwing a hissy fit over a little mess. Of course, there is always the solution on setting the dorm on fire...

Her fingers held the brush in place while she detangled the knots, a soft wince escaped her lips as she left her arm to reach the nape of her neck.

" Shit," She once again forgot to dip her ass in ice again after private advance training, pausing to stare long into those brown orbs she called eyes. There was no passion there, no fire, but who had the energy for those sorts of things when they had just woken up? Smudging a little moisturizer beneath her eyes in an attempt to usher away the dark rings, could not help but wince at the sight of her discolored skin. The more she experimented and played with her bow, the more her skin had begun to take on an healthy tinge.

Casting a glance at her open wardrobe, Cătălina wondered why it had taken her so long to notice that any of her casual attires lacked any real bright colors. Right. They drew attention. Better to blend into the background - easier to avoid drama that way.

With her appearance and hygiene up to a suitable level, she raced back to her room and deposited her belongings on her bed, soon out the door before her room-mates had even open their eyes. If they wanted to be late for class then they could be her guest. Not that she was enthusiastic about heading to the first session of the day. Who wanted to exert themselves when they had just woken up? People were strange. She would much rather spend her morning eating, exercising or better yet, reading. Speaking of reading, for the first time in a long time, the Romanian teen had actually remembered to bring her PDA along with her. While it was nice to be up to date on everything, it was also nice to have a hefty sum of emails to filter through during her breakfast so she generally left it hidden in her room. It was like forgetting about an article you really enjoyed and when you next found it again, it had updated nearly a hundred times over. Plus it gave her an excuse not to talk to anyone. Weekly schedules, the cafeteria menu – nothing really peaked at her interest. That was until she came across the email regarding a new tending video, students surrounding two underclassmen, a little fight the two had come up with, no doubt.

To be honest, that was nothing new within the walls of the academy. There was always a test of the fittest, however, it will not last to past the first round. The teachers here enjoyed placing such 'weaklings' as they quote back to reality. Most of it, the perfect place for the new director to make a grand appearance.

With her backside rested against the wall beside the railing of the roof of the main building, Cătălina stood with her eyes downcast, trying to figure out who would fit the description of the 'grand wizard', paying little mind to the ongoing fight.

Speaking of grand appearances, even being high above and Cătălina being on the other side of the roof, Cătălina could hear her 'friend' wailing from the doorway of the roof. No doubt he had just come across either her own email or the one sent by the school about a fight happening right by his favorite hangout spot.

Cătălina managed to look up from the students in time to spot the warmage reaching out for her arm while muttering something about an idea. An idea from this man? She expected nothing short of the man standing on top of the rooftop and yelling to their new teammates. But no, apparently the idoit had something much more sinister in mind. Before she could utter a word of protest, the flash from his Noble Arm in form of gloves soon blinded her, causing the dark-haired beauty to blink the pretty white spots away.

" Shall we teach these youngsters how the big boys' does it?"

The scathing look she focused on her companion was one she used on him often but as usual, the man ignored it and was already strolling on his
merry way, beckoning for her to follow. As the blonde began leading the charge, Cătălina held her sluggish pace behind him as she decided to bring Vipera out for the view.

" Alright, I will create a bit of a mist and wind. If successful, my dessert tickets are yours."

Another bet, now that was worth complying to. Cătălina nodded towards the blonde, two arrows appeared in her hand and bringing Vipera close to her dominant eye. Her dominant eye judges the accurate of her aim and distance, with an another nod, she verifies she was in position. Tiny droplets of water hanging in the air, became visible as the air around them changed, causing the warm air to be cool.

Inhale.

Exhale.

Inhale.

"Excuse me, but I don't think this is a very good time to fight."

"Moneys on gun girl, if she's not too much of a chicken to fight!"

She watched as a male student stepped into the ring, trying to calm the sea of raging hormones, only to be overthrown by the voice of a young female student. The male student stood too close to the wielding student with the ax. Now that was just another challenge to the expert.

Exhale.

Without so much as a sound. She contemplated her targets for a second, as she cocked the arrows and raised it, without show, much like that of a hunter, shooting ducks. After a second, she made her decision, and one recoil later, the student with the ax lay on the ground, twitching and bleeding from a gaping wound in the middle of his abdomen. By this time, the female student had shrieked as her legs was firmly stuck together by the second arrow.

" Holy fuck, Cătălina,"

She smirked at the offensive compliment, enjoying the bit of victory and the view.

"...Or apparently not," — thought Takumi with a distaste.

Calming down, he watched the surrounding landscape for sources of hostility and discontent, pushing more power into Vox Vulgaris.

A palpable but invisible wave of apathy washed out, bringing Catalina's antagonistic glee into stark relief.
To the grungy girl he shrugged, as if to say "oh well", then started calmly walking towards the archer maiden, then vanished when she blinked, reappearing near her.

— Please stay where you currently are, miss. — he remarked coldly. — I believe the senior instructors will be arriving shortly. You would have ample possibility to own up to your misdemeanor.

His hand was on the hilt of a japanese-fitted but straight sword, while his stance was fairly relaxed for a swordsman.

Adolf payed no attention to the fight in the courtyard for the simple reason that it wasn't interesting. He just passed it by, disregarding the event as he wandered through the courtyard minding his own business, singing to himself as he went.

"Auf der Heide blüht ein kleines Blümelein

Und das heißt: Erika"

He continued on through the courtyard but stopped short off to the side, struck by that feeling Naught gives him. He glanced up at the school's towers, looking at them for a moment before smirking and continuing on his way.

"Heiß von hunderttausend kleinen Bienelein

Wird umschwärmt

"Hey, this is none of your business you-!" that was as far as she got to responding to Yuri before she felt a sharp pain on her feet. The student shrieked as her legs were skewered together, and the male student toppled over, bleeding.

The crowd, despite the injuries of the two in front of them, stood uncaring, and slowly dispersed, courtesy of Takumi's Noble Arm. Though some were held up as the arrival of the school's instructors and guards forced them to stay put and answer questions. The male student who was injured was carted of in a stretcher to the infirmary.

Looking up at Yuri the female student wanted to glare, but said nothing as she focused on the pain on her legs. Still, it was obvious from her face that she was nervous; bringing out your Noble Arms in restricted areas and without proper reason was a serious misdemeanor, and warranted a heavy penalty on the offenders of that rule. Having violated this rule on the first day would damage anyone's chance of rising in rank for the term.

@GingerBoi123 @Eklispe @KindledBeast
Among the students held up were, Nishka and Michael. Four disciplinary officers held them up for questioning, while a security guard escorted the offending female student away from the scene in a second stretcher.

Though they were using different words, all four were basically asking the same questions:

"Did you see what happened here?"

"Who injured these two?"

"What were you were you doing here?"

Among all the students and instructors, however, a single man stood out. His dark brown hair was cropped back neatly, and his black eyes gazed sharply in the distance, looking up at something most of the students couldn't see. He was dressed in a fanciful black suit with a red polo shirt underneath. He had the a predatory air about him, and most students and teachers avoided approaching him. He glanced back at them expressionlessly, then chuckled; a deep, smooth sound that held all the beauty and threat of a lions roar.

Then, in the blink of an eye he vanished, leaving nothing behind, as though he were merely a figment of the imagination.

@TheWildBunnii @Altasaire
"Never let it be said that I don't admire strength, but . . . I do have a job to do, so it could only be said that you are unfortunate."

The deep voice came from behind Catalina and her group, heralding the arrival of something . . . dangerous. Directly behind them stood that same man who came with the instructors and guards, only this time, he bore a smile on his face. It was not a pleasant smile to be at the receiving end of, by any means. It was a smile that only a predator makes when it's aware that it has caught its prey. And it just so happened, they were the prey.

"I really hope that you weren't so foolish as to think you could get away with this now did you?"

His gaze locked on Catarina in particular.

"So, how about we all take a trip to the Disciplinary Office. We could talk about your expulsion there. How about it?"

Niskha yawned, "The two boneheads over there started fighting over something, dunno what. It looked like they were about to go at it before evil robin hood shot both of the lugs. I was just waiting for head honcho to kick things off, any idea when he's going to do that?" She asked at the end, her bubble popping becoming distinctive for anyone who heard her speak more than twice. Clearly she was bored and a little disappointed but in the end didn't care that much.

The sun was climbing higher in the sky as the morning progressed.

Today, was going to be a busy day.

Her slender hands gripped the moist rails, while her brown eyes feast on the dispersing students. Just a bad habit, they continued on their day like any other despite of what happened few minutes to their friends. Of course, this was common among the students. A little taste of what's being higher ranked was all about.

"Eh, how much trouble are going to get for this?" She glanced over to her friend, a small worried began to creep upon his face. The last director was strict man that ran the school with an iron fist. However, overtime more students attended the academy, the less teachers and faculties there was to tend after. Punishment was always available to those who broke the rules; a simple crash course and three days of suspension from all activities. Three days which were taken more as a trophy to students like her, a wonderful way to gain one on one teachings from the higher ups.

"Please stay where you currently are, miss."

The strange student spoke with the code of chivalry, his hand resting just over his Noble Arms. Vipera was just a thought away, one little shout... Now that, was an invitation that she could not help but refuse. For once, the distance will do little for her, giving him the upper advantage. Was that the impression she wanted to teach the lesser student? No.

"I believe the senior instructors will be arriving shortly. You would have ample possibility to own up to your misdemeanor."

"Holy shit balls! Dude--You almost gave me a heart attack," The blonde shrieked, clutching his chest where his heart is " There goes ten years of my life."

Her light Romanian accent covered each of her words as it left her lips, " Boy, Noble Arms found to be visual within restricted area, like the one we are on now, are force to--what you called it? 'Ample possibility to own up your misdemeanor'" she place her backside against the railing, her face showed little to no resentment. As her father told her countless times if you plan to do something evil do it well or don't do it at all.

Why not give the boy the chance to run?

" It will not be lon-"

"Never let it be said that I don't admire strength, but . . . I do have a job to do, so it could only be said that you are unfortunate."

Thump. Thump. Thump.

The archer beauty was startled by a masculine voice, her eyes flew wide to reveal fear claiming her thoughts. In her line of vision she notice a older man, standing in a dark suit with a red shirt underneath. Her brown eyes stop at his face for the first time, and it stop the archer cold. The first thought pops into her mind took her by surprise, almost as if it were placed there. I'm in deep.

"I really hope that you weren't so foolish as to think you could get away with this now did you?"

Now, he was simply teasing her with such a rhetorical question. Anyone with common sense knew the moment she release her bow string, she had set her ending in stone.

This man was tall, dark and lean, noticeable through his suit, and from what you can make out, he had nearly perfect features. He smile a smile only a prey will witness before meeting it's demise and her soft face glints off his dark eyes.

Death.

A deep breath to slow her heart back to its normal pace.

Inhale.

"So, how about we all take a trip to the Disciplinary Office. We could talk about your expulsion there. How about it?"

Exhale.

A slow, sensual smile steals across her features when she heard her own melodic voice once again. " A pleasure it would be, sir."

Yuri looked down at the girl, "May I tend to your wounds or will you bite my head off?" He said with a wink to trying to lighten up the mood. Yuri didn't like seeing people in pain but he also didn't want to get in any trouble for using his noble arms. Yuri walked over to one of the disciplinary officers. "May I heal this young lady?" He asked gesturing back to the girl?

Alexsis had stood as far back from the crowd as possible for her to be but still allow herself to see the action. It always amussed her when newbies began to squabble but she kept her straight face as the situation escalated with the whole people getting in the way of the fight. Her eyes were drawn to the people in the crowd more than the actual fighters since they already had their weapons drawn and ready to fight.

After the she spotted the arrows fly through the air Alexsis nodded in impressment as that shot must have been made by a master archer or someone who could manipulate the arrows in flight, "interesting" she said and walked away before the questioning began. It was interesting that someone used lethal force on the two but it wasn't unheard of since the year before a similar problem arose and people were carted off the get medical attention exactly like now.

She pulled out one of her multiple gaming systems and tried to ignore the feeling of fear that had washed over the campus earlier but it had left a lasting effect on her that took a second to shake off but that was only after she had also put the headset on over her ears. The Russian girl listened the the explosions of her game but kept an eye out for any more arrows or bullets so that she would be able to spawn Dreacion in time to parry and absorb the kinetic energy.

Takumi turns around calmly, forcing himself to feel apathetic and unbothered in spite of the aura of deathly power the "top dog" showed when under the effect of Assessment. It won't do to lose face on the first day.

— Gladly, sir.

His hands are somewhat conspicuously nowhere near his sheathed weapon.

It was Art's first day back at Trinidad and he sure was glad to get away from Yellowknife it was a sleepy town in the middle of nowhere. That coupled with his father managing his private training had made his holiday a living nightmare. Art did have to admit his father had an eye for spoting weakness and Art had certainly improved alot since the end of first year. But that didn't make him happy about losing all his freedom.

Art was walking though the crowd when the fight had started. He had hadn't even registered he was busy memorising his new timetable. When suddenly he heard the pained screams and noted the arrows sticking out of the collasped students. Art eyes quickly scanned the area and slipped away from the scene developing nearby.

Finally a safe distance away Art leaned against a nearby wall a slight panic clouding his thoughts"I didn't even see it coming" Art thought to himself. It served as a painful reminder that he had along way to go. His fathers words sprang to mind
"Speed is your weakness Art, if you don't improve that you'll have no hope in a real fight.A chilled angry had slowly seeped into Art. It reminded him that he while he was slowly escaping his past he had alot left to prove.

A thought that was not his own seeped into his mind."I wouldn't worry too much little one. We are both still learning what we can truly do and this is only our second year."
"I know Harrow i'm just frustrated, it's probably just the jet lag getting to me."
"Well this might cheer you up History seems to be your first lesson today."

A small smile grew and Art slowly began making his way towards his class. Art was unsure if he was the only one who could talk to his noble arms, However, he was sure that not everyone did. Seeing many students accidently leaveing their noble arms laying around proved that. They did disappear after awhile, but Harrow would be enraged by the disrespect. Art had never mentioned it to anyone it was his most treasured secret and he hid a great number of things.

The instructor gave Nishka a small glare, making his displeasure at her lax and juvenile attitude. "I'm not much for that tone, young lady. Anyway, you're done here. Now get to inside, class is starting soon."

He stood watching, waiting for her to turn and leave. It was apparent that he fully expected Nishka to follow his orders, and was not going to leave until he made sure she did.

@The ghost in black @KindledBeast
"Calm down, miss." A female instructor approached Alexsis, placing a hand on her shoulder. "The matter has settled down. There's no need to do anything rash." Alexsis looked a lot more tense that she had felt as she anticipated more attacks. It was only natural that she went to calm her down. To the instructor, she looked like a student on the verge of exploding out of panic, an incident best left avoided. "C'mon, head on over to your classroom, classes are starting soon, and you don't want to be late," she said in a soft placating voice.

Meanwhile, on the stretcher the injured female student glared at Yuri, before sighing in dismissal. The medics carrying her looked at each other, then back to Yuri. A third medic glanced down at a tablet in his hand, and nodded his head. The healers, taking this as a signal, set the student down.

"Okay. You've been given the green light, but be careful."

While Yuri proceeded to heal the girl, she bit her lip, a combination of embarrassment and confusion on her face. Soon enough, she simply gave a deep sigh. Turning to Yuri, she said "Addey Simmons. My name, and . . . thanks I guess."

@TheWildBunnii@Altasaire
The man glanced slowly between Takumi and Catalina, assessing them with a smile on his handsome face. He recognized these two, and wondered if it was some sort of twisted destiny that brought them together like this. There was also coincidence, but that was not nearly as fun an option - after all, the man could easily imagine destiny laughing on its throne as it pushed to children so different, yet so unaware of how alike they really were, together.

Well, there was time for idle thoughts later.

Not even bothering to notice the sensual tone in Catalina's voice, the man nodded in satisfaction. "Very good. It would have been difficult if you had protested; a waste of time, and I truly dislike wasting time."

Turning around, the man opened the door out of the roof, and stepped out.

Later on, Catalina and her group, and Takumi stood outside of the Disciplinary Office. It was empty and locked, which meant that the department head had yet to arrive. Such a fact did not seem to bother the man.

Taking a small, thin silver ring of keys from his pocket, the man picked one out from the bunch and unlocked the door to the office. Without another word, he walked inside and sat on the seat of the department head - the plaque read "Rodrigo Mendoza"; however to anyone even remotely familiar with the school faculty, they would be aware that "Rodrigo Mendoza" was not this man.

"So, before we begin to discuss the terms of your expulsion, Miss Catalina and co., perhaps you can explain your use of your Noble Arm? Maybe you can convince me to reconsider it. I hear your father has high expectations of you here, after all, and I must say, so do I. To climb so high in rank after just a year is a feat worthy of applause, and it would be a shame to see all that effort go to waste."

The man stared at her unblinkingly, his expression even and unreadable. A thick, syrupy tension flooded the room as he waited for her response. There was something about his stare that forced one to stare back, like the eyes of snake to a cornered rat. Several of her groupies were alternating glances between her, the man, and the door.

Takumi waited calmly for the situation to resolve itself. He wasn't in violation of any school rules. "Except, maybe, Cool Heads Prevail there, but that can be argued to be grounded in necessity," — he thought. So he just put on as dispassionate a face as possible.
"This senior staff-member isn't likely to be a stupid man," Takumi mentally reasoned, "and he understands all this. Thus he should have another reason to have me here. And if I took his measure right, I think I have an idea what that reason might be."

Michael flipped through his notebook. "Unfortunately, sir, I have no data on any combatants apart from their noble arms and what they looked like. "He began to explain, before closing his notebook shut. "One large male squared off with one small female. Another male did try to intervene. However, it was cut off short by some form of projectile interrupting the fight." He shoved his book in his pocket and turned around. "Now if you don't mind, I will be on my way." He then spotted the girl with the bright hair. Her Noble Arm might be valuable. Michael caught up to her and shoved his hands in his pockets. "Excuse me ma'am, but do you mind if I interview you. I'm compiling a report on all Noble Arms and I would love to find out more.

Nishka shrugged dismissively of the instructor's obviously dislike for her. People tended not to like her at first glance, or much in general. Not that she cared much. "Yeah, yeah, I'm going. Sir." The belated addition of the title and the snort that followed afterwards made it rather clear what she thought of him. She pocketed her bag and began walking towards the class room before a vaguely handsome blonde accosted her with an inquiry. Nishka analyzed him for a few seconds, then kept walking and said, "Sure why not, what'd ya wanna to know?"
