The product of a love story straight out of a Nicholas Sparks' novel, Alyssa's parents met while her mother, Celeste, was overseas as part of a missions trip. Her father, Arthur, has always described it as love at first sight and the two quickly became inseparable after their initial meet cute. When Celeste returned to California to complete her graduate program, Arthur followed and with his father's blessing, expanded the family's law firm from England to America.

Both Arthur and Celeste were devout Christians and as such. Alyssa was born into and subsequently raised in a Christian household, Alyssa had always had a skewered opinion of Hyperhumans, especially due to the influence of her legalistic grandmother. A kind woman, the elderly Mrs. Townsend was unable to separate the abilities of Hyperhumans from her understanding of dark magic and the occult. Impressions left on her through her own family, particularly her nomadic uncle who came to every holiday with a new tall tale about some dangerous creature or another.

Born of both privilege and wealth garnered through a rich family history dating back to the Crusades, education and a proper upbringing were heavily stressed in the Townsend family. From a young age, Alyssa attended an exclusively female boarding school abroad in England under the watchful eyes of her grandparents, in particular her grandmother, before returning to America at the age of fourteen when she was enrolled in a private school in her native California. Though the distance could be hard at times, Alyssa and her family found they treasured the time they did have together far more, especially at the holidays, and each year Alyssa found herself looking forward to her time at home and her participation in their family traditions.

Discovering she was a Hyperhuman was a personal point of crisis for Alyssa. Originally believing herself to be cursed after the bio-metal surfaced through an attack by a would-be mugger. Her parents and particularly her grandmother, initially believed she was possessed by a demon. The quicksilver bleeding from her eyes when upset didn't help quell their fears any. Reluctantly coming to terms with their daughter's outed status as a Hyperhuman, Alyssa was transferred out of her private school in California and into an institute suited to better handle her abilities.

Originally studying at the Alexandria Foundation, Alyssa's parents opted to transfer her out after only one year when students began to mysteriously disappear. Still wanting to go to an environment that embraced her abilities rather than fear them, Alyssa opted to enroll at Pacific Royal, and with both the input and blessing of her parents, became part of the H.E.A.T program with hopes of being able to help others like her.

Great Uncle is a Jager
Hyperhuman through her mother's side
Was originally enrolled at Alexandria because of her mother's family before wanting to stay closer to home and transferring to P.R.C.U.

Father's family is from Leeds, West Yorkshire, England. Her father, a lawyer, fell for an American woman and expanded his family firm to the U.S.,setting up shop in Orange County.
History dates back to the Black Forest, Germany.

Alyssa is a fast-talking, preppy go-getter with an A-type personality through and through, Alyssa thrives on organization, rules and deadlines. The less-than-endearing nickname 'Little Miss Know-it-all' is more than likely to apply as Alyssa deals with being overwhelmed by overwhelming herself with information. A thorough planner and perpetual preparer, Alyssa's personal bag is equipped with tools and aids for most situations and what she doesn't have on hand, she can forge using her bio-metal. She does not do well with spontaneity, uncertainty, or disorganized or illogical situations.

Despite her logical and right-brained driven personality, Alyssa is also deeply spiritual owing in part to her Christian upbringing and her continued relationship with God. Discovering she was a Hyperhuman has planted several seeds of doubt in her life, leading to a personal crisis of faith that Alyssa is continuing to work through. Originally seeing her abilities as a physical manifestation of sin in her life, Alyssa has slowly begun to realize the blessing they provide and the ability to use them to help not only other Hyperhumans, but also Hyperhuman and Human relations as a whole.

Alyssa possesses the ability to generate and manipulate a bio-organic metal that is secreted from within her body. This metal in its inert state has the same consistency as quicksilver or mercury but when shaped
and formed, has the strength of steel. In a rested state, Alyssa's body can store a quantity of the bio-metal capable of covering her from head to toe in an armoured layer.

However, armour is not the only application which Alyssa can manipulate the bio-metal for. The bio-metal is actively linked to Alyssa's subconscious, her instincts and her whims. She can will it into any number of constructs, wielding it as a weapon, tool or projectile. When departed from her person, the biometal will actively seek to rejoin its host although, like all things Hyperhuman, it can be nullified and turned to an inert state through electron bombardment. Outside of ten meters (thirty feet), Alyssa loses connection with the biometal and is unable to recall it. Inside of that range, however, she can freely launch and recall any projectile or object formed from her abilities.

In many ways, Alyssa can wield the bio-metal like an Elemental moves water, using it to swiftly and fluidly strike or defend. Due to its connection to her instincts, the biometal at times seems to move and act of its own accord, and it was because of this Alyssa found out she was a Hyperhuman.

The biometal primarily secretes through Alyssa's pores, though it can come from her mouth, nose, tear ducts, ears and any open wound. When in control, Alyssa can direct how it exits her body, though when she loses control to instinct, the biometal will act efficiently and exit where necessary. The process isn't painful but can be quite uncomfortable.

"She left in the middle of the night, packed up and moved out."

That's what Alyssa had been told when she woke up to find her roommate's side of the room perfectly restored to its original state. She wasn't the first student to disappear in the middle of the night, and Alyssa doubted she'd be the last.

Their dorms had more in common with a hospital room than a personalized space. While the Foundation didn't enforce a uniform like Pacific Royal, they did have strict policies on personal spaces, essentially boiling down to don't personalize it. The institute was a sterile, spartan environment filled with blinding white corridors and cool, neutral lighting that made it feel like you were trapped in big-budget Hollywood space opera.

X has the ability to create a psionic neural link between herself and another person. By doing so, X essentially takes possession of the linked individual and has access to all of their motor functions, including the ability to see through their eyes along with the experiences of their four other senses. Notably, however, they can not speak through their possessed body, leaving the individual in a mute state, identifiable by a stunned, unblinking expression on their face. Upon release from possession, the individual has no memory of what occurred or what they did.

Thaddeusss...

Thaddeusss...

Thaddeus, come to me...

The voice invaded Tad's head, erroding at his will pulling him out of his slumber and prompting the semi-conscious young man to sit up on his cot. Outside the thunder continued to boom, shaking the tent despite Jim's shield over the campsite.

It all felt too fast and too fake.

Not even an hour ago, this lot had been ready to fight it out over a 'simple misunderstanding'. Now they were swapping traumatic back stories around a fire? No. Cass didn't buy it, this was all a trick of some sort to be used against him at a later date. People were cruel and he had already said too much by revealing his lack of control with his abilities.

Banjo had made sure to reiterate that fact for the group afterall.

The drive from Orange County to Prince Rupert had been unusually quiet. Road trips for the Townsend family were usually a much more jovial occasion, but a melancholy mood had set over the four on this particular day. It was bittersweet, on one part both siblings were going off to school together, and on another, it would be the first time Arthur and Celeste Townsend had been without their children since the day their eldest had been born.

Normally the one to console everyone, the usually cheerful, chatterbox that was Alyssa Townsend didn't quite feel like herself lately. Another school year at yet another new school. It had been hard enough going off to the Alexandria Foundation last year, a lot like the days leading up to departing for the boarding schools of her youth, but this was still somehow harder. The Foundation's Institute had been unique, but it's location and protocols left little to be desired for someone who wanted to remain in touch with their family throughout the year. Alyssa was grateful when her father finally stood up to his mother and had Alyssa removed from the suffocating environment. But her first experience with a Hyperhuman-only institution left a sour taste in her mouth. She only hoped that Pacific Royal didn't do the same to her brother.

Alyssa's first encounter with P.R.C.U. had come from the two school's friendly extramural league. Attending an away game on the Canadian island, Alyssa had become enamoured with the rival school and began to beg and prod for her parents to transfer to a program there instead. With the discovery of her brother's own Hyperhuman abilities, and with P.R.C.U. being both a closer and more inviting institution, the Townsends' caved to their daughter's wishes.

In the driver's seat, Alyssa's father; Arthur, likewise drove in near silence, breaking only occasionally to announce when they were stopping or to sing along with the radio, even if only under his breath. Her mother, Celeste, on the other hand, kept trying to initiate conversations, only for them to call flat when neither of the siblings put any effort into carrying them. Every so often, Alyssa could hear her mother muttering prayers of protection under her breath, mostly for Alyssa and Oliver at Pacific Royal, but occasionally for them all whenever Arthur's lead foot got a little too heavy on the gas pedal.

After nearly three full days of driving the car came to its final destination. The four of them had arrived in the port city of Prince Rupert. Managing a smile, Alyssa elbowed her younger brother before she and Oliver climbed out of the back of the Range Rover.

The pier was crowded with people, most of which held signs that condemned Hyperhumans. The hurtful words and slurs were familiar, words that had come from Alyssa and Oliver's own grandmother when she had found out about first Alyssa's Hype-Gene and then again with Oliver when the youngest Townsend revealed that like both Alyssa and Celeste, he too was a Hyperhuman.

Pushing through the protestors, Alyssa shielded her younger brother, as the paid made their way towards the pier. It was almost odd that Pacific Royal didn't keep this location more private, shouldn't there have been H.E.L.P security to dispel the rabble? Thankfully, both siblings were able to board the ferry without incident, waving to their parents as the vessel made its way across the Pacific toward the hidden island.

"You're a long way from California, Townsend."

The red-haired girl looked up at the looming mansion. The steel slope of the roof, the ornate gables and the overall height of the building all pointed to it being from the Victorian Era. It was rare to see this far West, most of Canada's best examples were located in its central provinces. Toronto's Distillery District being perhaps the country's best-preserved example.

There was a lot of beauty in it, the history and what it represented not only to her but also to all Hyperhumans.

Not that Alyssa had much time to dwell on it. Since arriving on the island, she had been shuttled to the Administrative building where here and Oliver were assigned to teams. As a part of the H.E.A.T. Program, Alyssa had been assigned to something called 'Team 78 - Firebird' complete with a familiar-looking emblem on her student card. An armband bearing a similar but not identical symbol had also been issued to her.

"Excuse me, Ma'am, but I think this might be the wrong-"

"Sorry, it's an older design. Your team was a last-minute addition, so they're breaking out the overstock from five years ago. You'll get an updated one along with your house uniform."

Alyssa didn't get a chance to ask Oliver what team he had been placed on before the pair were whisked off to some sort of opening ceremony and escorted to separate seats alongside other members of their teams. United with the other students who she would be spending the year alongside, Alyssa tried to study each of them whilst listening intently to Dr. Lehrer.

She clapped excitedly and whistled loudly as the ceremony came to an end. The whole group was pulled aside by their faculty representative and her student aid who explained that because the team had such a hectic arrival that they'd try to give them some space and time to adjust and instructed the team to hike across campus to the Southern Plateau. Their faculty member, a Dr. Miranda Rivers, informed them a truck had been sent ahead with their belongings to lighten the load.

The walk across the island was fascinating. Surrounded by the island's unique vegetation, Alyssa's eyes darted back and forth searching for fauna while engaged in a lively conversation about the Lehrer Hyperhuman Classification System and its flaws with two of the Sierras. They had several fascinating insights into the argument that Dr. Lehrer and Kowalski's work, while valid and perfectly fine for a work of its time, should be re-investigated for further clarification and perhaps expansion to the classification system.

"I truly believe that either primary classification could include all eight secondary classifications. Or even do a sub-classification to further categorize Hyperhuman abilities. Like yourself, it's not simply just Somatic, it's Dynamic, maybe even Expulsive!" Alyssa energetically explained.

“I’m pretty inclined to agree. Most of what of the classification system, from what I’ve read, seems to come from an era where we were trying to explain and categorize the phenomena shortly after its presentation.” The first Sierra responded.

“I’m with her. Metaphorically of course. She’s me. Anyways- I think trying to shove a whole bunch of people into a few categories is a bad move. Think about it, Myers-Briggs is just astrology for people with a job. These categories are basically astrology for people who breathe fire or fart laser beams.” The second Sierra stated as the conversation continued between the three girls until they arrived at their destination.

Mulling around the campsite, Alyssa threw herself into making her pizza. Unable to limit herself to just one set of toppings, she divided the pizza into three evens sections. Mixing a white sauce and a tomato sauce, she created her base before mixing together mozzarella and provolone for her cheese. On the first third, she put chicken, bacon and sausage, before finishing with pineapple and jalapeños. On the next section went steak, red onions and mushrooms while the last section was pepperoni, bacon, green pepper, caramelized onions, and mushrooms.

Excitedly placing her masterpiece into the oven, Alyssa looked around for someone to talk to before spotting a familiar face. Her eyes lit up as she stepped forward, a hand shooting out to introduce herself.

"You're Adrianna Dahl! I'm a huge fan of your work. It's incredibly upsetting what happened to you." She chattered energetically, "I'm Alyssa Townsend, it's such a pleasure to meet you, Adrianna Dahl!"

Cass was taken aback by Banjo's confession. Though it certainly made the pieces start to fall into place. He had encountered many 'Banjos' from his time in the foster system. They learned to act that way to demand the attention they couldn't get otherwise. Realizing his sleeves had pulled back enough to reveal his scars, Cass quickly pulled his hands to his chest, tugging the sleeves down to hide them from any further prying eyes.

Makenna spoke up, referring to herself by a number and Greek letter. Maybe some sort of classification? Cassander wasn't exactly sure what she was talking about but it seemed to relate to her abilities. Perhaps it was something she and Dr. Lehrer had discussed during their one on one.

Haleigh was next, revealing the truth behind the wheelchair and suspecting on of Cass' hunches. He had noted from their first day in the mess hall, that the soles of her shoes were dirty, scuffed even. Not common of someone who had been in a wheelchair all their life. Haleigh was new to the chair and he couldn't blame her for holding such disdain for something that robbed her of a freedom she once knew.

"Not everyone here can control what they do," Banjo comforted Haleigh, which was nice until he gestured towards Cass.

He'd remember that.

As Iñigo approached. Cass watched the interaction with Mackenna, her look toward Calliope and decided he had enough of this. This wasn't the team he going to stick with. It was time to end this little tête-à-têtes.

"Oh, Banjo," Cass called.

"Control this." He snapped opening a fist as he created an orb and hurled the ball of concussive force toward Banjo. It wasn't enough to harm anyone, but it should have been enough to send Banjo off of his seat and onto his back.

Aaron opened the door as Miranda and Aiden Roth both entered Jim's hospital room.

"From this point on, we can only trust the people in this room." Jim said turning to Miranda and Aiden (TBD?). "No electronic communication, leave no paper trail. The school's walls have ears. Hyperion can clearly enter and leave as they wish. They're clearly one of us."

"I don't know, but in my time, Jonas Lehrer dies saving Kowalski only to realize that Hyperion got to him, ushering in the era of Hyperhuman Superiority. It didn't take long for Hyperion and Kowalski to bring entire nations to their knees. Jonas is the only one who could have talked Kowalski down. Think about it, Jonas created the HZEr and all other checks to keep Hyperhumans from abusing their powers, Kowalski runs the world's largest private military. "What do you mean you're locked out?" The bureau supervisory agent asked standing over the security officer's workstation. Studying the screen intently, the supervisor grunted in displeasure upon seeing the stagnate image.

"The grid is non-responsive, I can't get it to update. The whole system is frozen."

"Raise the alarm, we're under attack."

The silenced pistol barely made a sound as the officer stood up, firing into the supervisor's chest a second time to ensure the deed was done. As the body hit the ground, the agent fired a third round between his eyes before stepping over the body.

A scream cut short.

A yell silenced.

The other officers in the room didn't even have time to draw their weapons before the double agent fired again, their arms and weapons blurring, seemingly multiplying, as they methodically took out each member of the base security center.

Producing a device in their palm, they hesitated for a moment before their expression hardened.

"For Hyperion."

Beneath the raging storm, the explosion was barely audible.

“Get off my campus and go enjoy your chair while you have the chance, Miss Caspian.” Jonas paused before climbing into the vehicle waiting for him. The warmth suddenly returned to his face, as he spoke again, calling back to Winter.

“We wouldn’t want it to get cold.” He smiled, his eyes however did not as the icy gaze never once blinked while maintaining contact with Winter.

A shiver ran down the small woman’s spine as she found herself standing alone on the podium while the student body and faculty both exited the stadium grounds.

"We can no longer sit idly monitoring Hyperion's Children, they are not extremists, they are terrorists and should be considered an active threat. In the past seventy-two hours, they have made multiple attacks against H.E.L.P. and its institutes." The Bureau of Hyperhuman Enforcement, Logistics and Protection Deputy Director's words left little room for argument as Winter Caspain addressed the gathered executives and division directors. She returned to her seat as the man next to her stood and addressed the gathered members of the council.

"I move we continue with the emergency appointment of a new Director," The voice of Chief of Staff Killian O'Bran echoed through the round room as he stepped forward. "Are there any nominations to be brought before the council at this time?"

"The council would like to recognize Dr. Jonas Lehrer," A graying man interjected as Jonas stood upon receiving the nomination.

"Dr. Jonas Lehrer is the founder of Pacific Royal Collegiate and University, having served as its Chancellor and leading professor for over thirty years." The council member continued, "Furthermore, he is often referred to as the World's Foremost Authority on Hyperhumans, their genetics and their abilities. Dr. Lehrer has more experience with Hyperhumans than anyone in this room, understanding and fighting for our goals along with standing the best chance at defeating Hyperion and his followers."

Several members of the council clapped agreeably as the man motioned for Jonas to speak. Respectfully nodding to the gathered council, the Chancellor cleared his throat before addressing the attendees.

"As you all know, Director Yakob Kowalski was a close and personal friend, I will do my best to honour his memory. Together, we will bring an end to this threat and usher in a new era for H.E.L.P. and all Hyperhumans."

From across the room, another man stood, addressing Killian as Jonas took his seat again.

"Honorable Chief of Staff, the council would also like to recognize Deputy Director Winter Caspian as a nominee."

Winter stood again, nodding to the council. Jonas' steeled his gaze, eying his competition from across the room.

"The Deputy Director was top of her class at both McGill and P.R.C.U., having dual citizenship in both Canada and the United States, Winter was originally scouted to work for several agencies including Canada's own CSIS before being hired by the H.E.L.P.'s division of Enforcement and doing several years with Intelligence Operations before moving into the Intervention & Counter Terrorism Division which she led before being promoted to Deputy Director. While it has been a rough several days, Winter Caspian has faced them head on and we'd be lucky to have her continue in her current acting role."

Bowing her head in appreciation, Winter cleared her throat briefly before speaking to the rows of filled seats around her.

"I have served alongside the Director for several years, I had hoped if this day ever came that he would be here himself. Director Kowalski had been monitoring the Hyperion Threat personally and had hoped to solve the issue in collaboration with several international federal agencies. H.E.L.P. has never tried to stand alone, we've been there to aid and guide in these uncertain times, but now is the time for us to lead the charge especially when its one of our own not only putting human lives in danger, but as we saw at P.R.C.U., also the lives of fellow Hyperhumans and students no less."

Taking a seat, Winter looked around the room at the nods of approval while a slow clap slowly moved from seat to seat until Killian raised his hands to still the commotion.

"If there are no further candidates to be put forth, I'd ask the members of the council to cast their votes." The Chief of Staff's voice boomed over the rounded room, the brogue rolling across every sonorant. With no additional candidates put forth, the council members activated the screen in front of themselves, casting their vote for either Jonas or Winter.

As the votes finished tallying, Killian consulted with several other appointed council members before returning to the podium to address the attendees.

"During this time of crisis, we believe that Pacific Royal Collegiate and University, which best represents the future of H.E.L.P. needs Dr. Jonas Lehrer at its helm, without his attention divided between H.E.L.P. and the school. For that reason, the council believes that Deputy Director Winter Caspian is the best fit to lead H.E.L.P. in these uncertain times. By your decision, I give you Director Caspian, the twenty-first Director of the Bureau of Hyperhuman Enforcement, Logistics and Protection."

The applause echoed across the room, muffling the sound of the slamming door as Dr. Jonas Lehrer left.

A tap on the door caught the attending nurse's attention as he opened the door, welcoming both Miranda Rivers and Aaron Matthews into the hospital room occupied by Jim O'Neil.

"We're going to need some privacy," Miranda stated, stopping the nurse with a tap on the shoulder.

"Jim O'Neil did not have any visitors today." She commanded, her eyes glowing faintly as the nurse looked back at her in a daze.

"There hasn't been anyone in or out today," He replied before continuing to walk out. Closing the door behind the nurse, Miranda locked the knob as Aaron walked over to the window, absently turning on the nearby radio and raising the volume. The sound of Gord Downie's voice filled the room, eliciting a physical cringe from Aaron as the sounds of the Tragically Hip hid their conversation.

"H.E.L.P. has been compromised," Miranda started, jumping straight to the point. "No doubt P.R.C.U. along with it."

"And you want to trust this one," Jim growled accusingly from his bed, pointing his remaining hand at Aaron, "Didn't take much more than a curtsy and a howdy-do for his Number One to jump ship."

"I seem to recall that your right hand cut off your left, right before he up and left."

"Gentlemen," Miranda interjected, "How about we start living up to that name and start being civil with one another."

"Hard when you're born ignorant, ain't it Aaron," Jim replied with a smile before pushing himself up in the bed.

"Why do you trust us?" He asked bluntly turning towards Miranda.

"I read both of your minds while we were facing that monster, had to be sure neither of you were going to turn on me. In the heat of the moment like that, your thoughts are honest and transparent. Right now you might think something else, you might picture me naked to make me look away. Numerous Hyperhumans are trained to resist telepaths, especially those who work for H.E.L.P. Hyperion was no exception. But both of you were caught off guard and you certainly weren't cheering the madman on. You were worried about the kids"

"Good enough for me," Jim replied lifting his arm to cross it only for it awkwardly float against his chest before he reluctantly let it fall into his lap.

"They fit you for one of those cutting-edge prosthetics yet?" Aaron asked, jutting his chin toward where Jim's left arm should have been.

"Not taking one," Jim muttered.

"Why the hell not?"

"Because," Jim replied, focusing for a second as a glow in the shape of an arm briefly appeared, materializing for a second before falling away. "I think I can manifest one with my abilities with enough practice. They seem to want to compensate."

"Fascinating," Miranda replied dryly, "But not exactly the time."

"From this point on, we can only trust the people in this room." Jim responded, returning to the matter at hand. "No electronic communication, leave no paper trail. The school's walls have ears. Hyperion can clearly enter and leave as they wish. They're clearly one of us."

"And clearly connected to Autumn Miracle, that's who the woman was they had with them that night."

"Autumn Miracle had been imprisoned by H.E.L.P. since 1984. The only people connected to her should have been those involved in the Crestwood Hollow incident." Aaron interjected.

"So the entire founding body of P.R.C.U." Jim's retort was met by less-than-amused looks from both Aaron and Miranda. "Most of them still teach here, those that don't are either working with H.E.L.P. or went rogue years ago."

"Saying of course that Autumn herself isn't running this whole show and 'Hyperion' isn't some kind of mass misdirection."

"For the time being, Aaron and I will watch your back and ensure no one gets to you or the kids. In the meantime, be vigilant." Miranda cautioned.

"And remember, none of us are safe."

“We’re missing something, go over it all again.” Agent Shield ordered before his scanner began to flash as it detected a concentrated cluster of residual high-energy particles. Sebastian’s nose flared as he took a deep breath. His eyes flash momentarily, the hackles on the back of his neck rising.

“Teleporter,” Michael stated.

“One we’re familiar with,” Sebastian replied confirming what SSA Shield had already concluded. The familiar sickly sweet traces of a certain perfume filled the young agent's nose as he detected it beneath the other lingering scents in the pair's immediate area.

“Get a BOLO out on for the known Hyperhuman Cassidy Parker, classification Exoteric Fundamental, considered a Delta level threat.” Michael ordered Agent Duquesne. “Scan for HZE surges matching this signature in a one-kilometre radius. For every match you find, scan another kilometre in radius, I want to find out where she’s going.”

Waving for the rookie to follow him, Shield turned back to address Sebastian once more.

“The second they have her route, I want you in pursuit.”

The door to the small room swung open, nearly falling from its hinges. The blonde girl inside had no time to react before she was blinded by the flashbang that rolled into the room. Attempting to teleport, she found herself unable to leave, the very air littered with irradiated electrons produced by the portable silos strategically placed in a perimeter around her hiding spot.

The sound of several cocking weapons caused the woman to reluctantly raise her hands as the room cleared and Special Agent Sebastian Scott took the center position. Levelling his weapon at the other Hyperhuman, his nostrils flared slightly, confirming the scent.

The suspect in question could have been barely older than seventeen. Cassidy Parker had been antagonistic towards H.E.L.P. for some time now. Her abilities allowed her to enter and exit often without interference making her an ideal thief. Until now there had never been any reason to connect her to Hyperion.

"Cassidy Parker, you're under arrest." Scott commanded as he motioned for Agent Duquesne to cuff the girl.

"Why can't I teleport?" Cassidy asked, grunting as Veronica pulled her arms behind her back.

"We created a dead zone," Scott replied, "Anything you further do or say will be used against you in a court of law. You have the right to an attorney, if you can't afford an att-"

"Kowalski is alive." Cassidy interjected,

"If you can't afford an attorney-"

"Kowalski is alive!" Cassidy continued, "If you don't act now, it'll be too late." She protested, fighting against the cuffs. "Please, he's fighting, but if you don't find him soon, it'll be too late. I've seen what Hyperion does to people, to Kowalski. I tried to save him!"

As another agent rushed to help Veronica restrain Cassidy, Sebastian slowly lowered his weapon.

"Where is Yakob Kowalski?"

"Do you know why wanted to see you?"

It was intimidating sitting across from Dr. Jonas Lehrer. The man had nearly singlehanded discovered everything known about Hyperhumans, their abilities and the phenomenon that created them. His works had gone on to be both loved and loathed around the world with many adopting them as teaching materials, both for enlightenment and exploitation.

"With all due respect, Sir, it's actually now a well-known fact among new entrants to Pacific Royal that you like to have a personal sit down with each and every student that comes to the island." Alyssa swallowed her nerves, feigning confidence as she answered.

"I heard several members of Eclipse comparing their experiences, it was my understanding that you open with a vague question, such as the one you've just posed, in order to see how the student interprets it and then steer the conversation from there in order to access any insecurities, concerns or other subject matter that surfaces based on the initial answer."

Alyssa paused, taking a moment to think before talking again, cutting Jonas off as the Chancellor opened his mouth to retort.

"How did Hyperion display so many various abilities that night? I understand you're the leading expert on Hyperhumans and in your dissertation on Hyperhuman Abilities, you note that all Hyperhumans start with the same baseline potential. Meaning, we're not born locked into our abilities. They develop in response to our experiences and surroundings."

Jonas raised an eyebrow at where the topic had moved. Interested in the young woman's thoughts, he leaned forward, placing his elbows on the desk before entwining his hands, the extended index fingers resting against his chin.

"Is it possible to retain that initial fluidity in abilities?" Alyssa asked, "Say if one could fluctuate between abilities, switching them on the fly. I read a report once that you theorized those with the ability to replicate the abilities of others could potentially evolve into such an individual. Do you believe Hyperion is one such individual?"

"Firstly," The Chancellor replied leaning back in his chair, "I'm flattered to have such a young fan. It's not often I have a student in my office who can quote my work back to me with such accuracy. Secondly, regarding Hyperion, I can't possibly say for certain. It's unprecedented."

"For a Hyperhuman, I'd be inclined to agree." Alyssa nodded eagerly, "Have you considered that he's not a Hyperhuman? He could be a Draoi, albeit one masquerading as a Hyperhuman to amass followers." She rambled, "Unless of course, you're not familiar with the Magni, most people aren't but my Great Uncle spent a lot of my childhood telling me about his adventures and travels through the Slavic Countries. They were something of a special interest to hi-"

The door to Jonas' office suddenly opened catching Alyssa mid-sentence as both student and chancellor turned to identify the instruction to their conversation.

"Ah," Standing from his desk, Jonas approached the woman in the doorway, "Miss Carlyle, always a pleasure. What can I do for you?"

"We were supposed to be meeting," She replied, her eyes scanning Alyssa quickly before returning to Jonas. "Once again, at exactly this time. I presume you've double booked me again."

"I think we were actual just finished, didn't we Miss Townsend?" Jonas replied to Summer, the implication very clear as Alyssa stood from her chair, both hands tucking her skirt as she curtsied to the pair of adults.

"Of course, just leaving. Thank you for your time Dr. Lehrer, it was a pleasure." Alyssa responded, beating a hasty retreat out of the office before Jonas quickly closed the door behind her. The audible 'click' of a lock echoed down the hallway of the Administration Building as Alyssa walked away.

Meal times were always the surest opportunity for finding the most students in the same place. The Mess Hall was alive with the sounds of conversation and laughter. It was a welcome relief from the somber silence of the Intake House over the past week.

Finding an empty table to themselves, Alyssa and her brother, Oliver, placed their trays down before taking a seat. Looking around the Mess Hall, Alyssa couldn't help but feel a sense of relief that they were both safe and together. Nodding across the table at Oliver, the pair bowed their heads as Alyssa gave thanks for their food before opening their eyes and beginning their meal.

The younger male enthusiastically covered his fries in ketchup as Alyssa looked fondly toward her brother. Watching as he was eagerly digging into his plate of food.

"So, how's your first week been so far?" Alyssa asked, taking a bite of her own food. "Outside of the megalomaniac, of course."

"Of course, of course," Oliver replied with a wry smile, "It's been great!" He continued between bites.

"I got to meet some of the other kids in my dorm and we played some games in the common room."

"That's good to hear," Alyssa smiled. "I'm glad you're enjoying yourself." The Collegiate Students were on the other end of the Southern Plateau when Hyperion had attacked, it spared them a lot of the more grisly details. While her dorms at the Intake House had been mostly void of communal activities, the Collegiate students were more easily able to continue on as nothing had happened.

From across the table, Oliver nodded his agreement. Picking up his hamburger, he took a far larger bite than he should have, eliciting a small laugh from Alyssa herself.

"Do you think Hyperion will come back?" Oliver managed to get out while chewing on the mass of food in his mouth, his smile rapidly vanishing inside a much more serious expression.

Alyssa sighed, knowing that her brother was still shaken up by the attack. She had never thought anything like this would happen at Pacific Royal. Pacific Royal was always talked about in such high regard by the Foundation students. Then when her roommate and other classmates went missing, Alyssa had begged and pleaded to transfer, hoping that by going to Pacific Royal that Oliver would be spared the hardships. But it definitely seemed like tragedy was determined to follow them wherever they went.

"I don't know, Oliver." Alyssa began, thinking through her words as she did, "But we're safe here at Pacific Royal. They have some of the best security measures in place to protect us."

"I guess," Oliver said, but he still looked worried.

Alyssa reached over and took his hand. "Don't worry, little brother. We'll get through this together."

| 1 Day Ago, 6 Days After Hyperion's Attack
Alyssa sat in Dr. Thomas' office, feeling a mix of emotions as she occasionally glanced toward what felt like an agonizingly slow analog clock on the wall. A simple-looking device, its numbers were in a plain, bold font, a simple black on a white face. Still, the thin red hand felt to be hardly moving as it completed a revolution causing the longer of the two black arms to move a monumentally minute increment forward.

She had lost a classmate in what was supposed to be a celebratory opening weekend.

Though she hadn't known Cassander Charon, Alyssa couldn't help but keep picturing the blonde boy as her own brother. Every time she closed her eyes, she saw Cassander's stunned expression warp into Oliver, Hyperion's harpoon piercing her brother's chest.

Alyssa's knees bounced together in a steady beat as she struggled with the slurry of emotions whirling up inside of her. The guilt of surviving. Surviving having done nothing to save the boy who stood up for them. Could her abilities have protected them? The fear that her brother could yet suffer the same fate if Hyperion returned.

"Do you believe in God, Dr. Thomas?" Alyssa asked, her voice cracking as she did. "I did, or I still do." Alyssa mumbled, verbally processing her thoughts.

"It's not like there isn't a precedent for God-given gifts that border on the supernatural, one need not look any further than the Old Testament. But these-" She looked down at her own hands, "These feel so evil. I spend half my waking hours worried I'm possessed, this thing inside of me often acts seemingly of its own free will. I don't summon it, it just comes. And I feel it's going to swallow me, and I'm going to end of like him." She added, referring to Hyperion.

"And then to go and find out that not only do I have these abilities, this bizarre biology, but to also find Oliver, my baby brother, has also been cursed. I have to ask why?" Alyssa lamented, "Where did Cassander go when he died, was he saved, did he cry out with a final breath or do these abilities damn us all? Is this a generational curse, sin manifested?"

Across the small room, Dr. Reneé Thomas listened patiently as Alyssa poured out her heart, tears beginning to stream down her face.

"I just don't understand why God would allow something like this to happen," She said. "Why would he give us these powers, if their only valuable use is the pursuit of power? Why would He open this door, if it only ends in death and destruction?"

Dr. Thomas nodded sympathetically.

"It's natural to question your faith in times like this," She replied sympathetically. "But remember that God doesn't cause suffering. It's an intrinsic part of this world, and we have to find a way to deal with it."

Alyssa steeled her before nodding as she began to wipe her tears. It wasn't exactly the response she had wanted to hear, but among Dr. Thomas' many degrees, and certifications, none of them led Alyssa to believe Reneé was versed in theology or counselling from a Biblical perspective. Faith, and especially Christianity, weren't popular topics at a school full of 'evolutionary wonders'.

"But how do I deal with it?" She asked, "I feel so lost and alone, especially here." Alyssa gestured generally to the school around them.

Leaning forward, Dr. Thomas took a moment before passing a box of tissue across the small coffee table between them.

"First, you need to allow yourself to grieve," She said. "It's okay to feel sad and angry and confused. But don't let those feelings consume you. Talk to your family and friends, share your feelings with them. And remember that Cassander, nor your brother would want you to lose your faith in God no matter what happened to them."

She paused, leaning back into the leather couch behind her.

"Forgive me, it's been a while since I've read the 'good book', but I believe Christ himself once said, 'do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow comes with troubles of its own'. The Roman Poet Horace put it another way, 'carpe diem', simply pluck the moment or more commonly translated as seize the day." The doctor stated, taking a sip from her nearby tea before continuing.

"Worry is interest paid on a debt not yet due. It can also become a self-fulfilling prophecy. I'm not saying that your worry is going to get Oliver killed, nor am I saying worrying about Hyperion returning is going to make it so. But the fear and worry you show towards your abilities, that I've seen countless devolve into self-harm and casualties. The goal of Pacific Royal is anything but, and to help you embrace and accept your abilities and status as a Hyperhuman. I can't tell you if your abilities are because of your forefathers' sin, or if they're a curse upon your family. What I can tell you is that based on our understanding they are the result of a massive solar flare causing a genetic mutation in certain people which is then passed from parent to child. And that here at P.R.C.U. we can teach you how to use and control those abilities so you don't have to be afraid of either them or yourself."

"You're right," Alyssa resigned reluctantly. "For I know the plans I have for you, plans to prosper and not to harm you"

She took a deep breath.

"I need to trust that God has a plan for me and my brother, even if I don't understand it or these powers."

Dr. Thomas smiled.

"That's a good start," She replied. "And remember, I'm here for you if you need to talk further."

Waving a cheerful goodbye to Elodie, Alyssa looked around for other members of the H.E.A.T. program. Spotting Efraim and Lucas, the redheaded woman made her way over toward the pair when Lucas' words caught her ear.

“Efraim I’m not helping if it fights back. Okay? You okay?”

"The likelihood of it fighting back is higher than you might think, Lucas Bray!" Alyssa chimed in, her melodic voice ringing out as she approached the two males.

"My great-uncle fought a leshy in the Baltics once. He was pulling splinters out of his right arm for a month." She smiled, remembering the story of the giant tree-like creature that had been hunting the valley's hunters. Opening her mouth to continue her tale, Alyssa paused remembering the reason she had come over.

Taking ahold of Efraim's hand, Alyssa moved to gently inspect it for a wound, only to realize it was protected by a layer of hardened organic material. Her own bio-metal reacted to the foreign material, the underside of her hand quickly coating in the liquid metal as Alyssa absently outlined the bony growth. Thinking back to their limited time around the fire, Alyssa quickly realized, despite having only seen Efraim's face through the flickers of the fire, clearly, this was the boy who could manipulate his bones.

"Neat trick," She smiled brightly, "No splinters after all!" Alyssa let go of Efraim's hand, her own armour receding as she did.

"Jessica Friend said to let everyone know to change back into their regular uniforms and then meet for the Team Swap and Colour Ceremony. If you see any of the others, can you pass that along?" Alyssa asked both Efraim and Lucas.

"Have either of you given any thought to what House you'd like to be placed in? I wonder how they place us, I supposed there's the argument that how we reacted during the Hyperion attack reveals our truest selves, but there really wasn't much opportunity to react." Alyssa rambled, walking with the two boys, not giving either a chance to actually voice their thoughts.

"Myotis does have nice colours, don't think I'd want to be put in Ursus, Alces could look really nice on me though. But it would be nice to be put somewhere that challenges me though, like academically, not emotionally, that sounds exhausting. Can you imagine?" She giggled, mostly to herself.

Turning her head to the sky, Alyssa paused, studying the drones flying in formation above the campus grounds. They had appeared shortly after the attack, a response on the school's part to ensure no other such attacks could take place. As Alyssa understood it, the drones created a barrier using a sustained field laced with irradiated electrons. If a Hyperhuman were to pass through the field, their abilities would be negated long enough that the school's security could respond in kind. The drones themselves would identify the breach and allow for a coordinated response from H.E.L.P. and an emergency response unit.

She understood the precaution, though they did little to make her feel safer. The steady stream of supplies being airlifted into the H.E.L.P. across the horizon didn't help any. Any warmth and colour she had initially felt from the school were quickly being suffocated. There were moments when Alyssa felt she would have been better off taking her chances with another year at the Foundation.

"Anyways, this has been a lovely chat!" Alyssa replied to the boys, any sign of worry evaporating from her face as it exploded into a dazzling smile. "I should see about directing the others, see you both at the Team Swap!"
________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
The stadium was slowly filling as students all piled in to witness the colour ceremony. While everyone knew that the Team Swap happened first, most were invested in seeing who their new dorm mates would be and to pre-maturely scout the talent for the intramural league.

Filing into her spot, Alyssa joined the rest of Team Firebird as they stood in a line together, facing toward the other two teams that made up students in the Hyperhuman Enforcement Accelerated Training program. Miranda had joined them at this point while Jim stood beside Team Blackjack. The wind caused the empty sleeve of his jacket to move about freely for a second.

A hollow and bitter reminder of the night they were all trying to forget and move past.

Any students that Alyssa had been unable to get in touch with personally had received a notification to their personal devices. When that had failed, the intercom that loudly announced the beginning of the Team Swap should have sufficed to remind them where they had ought to be.

"Unfortunately, this year had started rather irregularly, and while many of you are no doubt understandably hurt, anxious or even angry, it is our job to ensure that you still have the best possible experience and to remind you that you are students." Jonas had once again returned to his podium in the center of the stadium field. Behind him were the eight house banners, the representative from each standing at the read with new uniforms and their inductee House cloaks. To Aylssa's understanding, it was being draped in one of those colourful cloaks where the name 'Colour Ceremony' came from.

"It is not your responsibility or obligation to hunt down those who violated the sanctity of this institute nor to seek vengeance for your fallen classmates." Dr. Lehrere continued from his podium, "We also are here to remind you that you are also not prisoners here and should anyone feel uncomfortable, or unsafe or that they simply no longer wish to attend Pacific Royal, the ferry back to the mainland departs every evening at six." The stadium remained in a hushed silence, Jonas' usual charisma didn't seem to be enough today.

"Should none of that apply to you, and you are in fact still wishing to pursue a degree in the Hyperhuman Enforcement Accelerated Training program, we are happy to have you remain at Pacific Royal and invite you to participate in the tradition of the Team Swap." Jonas concluded, finishing his portion of the address to the gathered members of the H.E.A.T. Program.

Beside the Blackjack lineup, Jim turned and addressed his team, though Alyssa had a feeling he was actually talking to all of them.

"The Team Swap is for anyone who believes they are incompatible with their current team, or anyone who is looking for a fresh start, it's a long-standing tradition to ensure students are given the best opportunity to create a friendly environment for themselves and by extension, their other team members." Jim paused,

Who could blame these kids for that after all they've been through?

"Please step forward and remove your armband." Aaron commanded, interrupting Jim's thoughts before Miranda began to speak.

"If you don't step forward, we will assume you wish to remain where you are and who you are with. If there are fewer spaces available than the number of individuals who step forward, then it'll come down to your second choice. Your faculty representative will each hand those of you who step forward the two armbands which correspond with the teams you aren't currently on. When the whistle blows, you will have the opportunity to move to the team you wish to join. To do so, you will, in your right hand, raise the armband bearing the corresponding logo. In your left hand, you will raise the armband belonging to your second choice, even if this second choice is to remain where you are. When the whistle blows again, these teams will become permanent. There are no takebacks." Miranda further explained looking at the gathered members of Blackjack, Eclipse and Firebird.

"Additionally, Jess is going to walk around and hand each of you an envelope. Inside that envelope are one to three houses that believe you belong with them. You will each receive a formal invitation and when the swap is done, you may approach your desired House and accept their colours. Do not, approach a House you weren't invited to, firstly it's decorum, secondly, they know what each of you looks like and who was extended an invitation."

Off to the side of the three times stood a girl that Alyssa didn't recognize. She looked around the stadium turf for another team that might have been missing a member only for Aaron to suddenly motion the girl over.

"This is Suzanna Poots, she's previously been attending P.R.C.U. but decided to transfer into the H.E.A.T program," Aaron explained. He paused directly turning to Suzana before addressing her. "In your case, you get three armbands. You still only have two choices to make, so just tuck the extra in your back pocket or place it on the ground in front of you. Remember, the right hand is your preferred choice, left is your secondary."

"On three, the whistle will blow and armbands go up." Jim roared to the group as Miranda began to count.

"1."

"2."

"3!"

The sharp whistle echoed across the stadium.

"Have you heard the expression 'blood is thicker than water'? Are you aware that it's a misnomer? The correct adage is 'the blood of the covenant is thicker than the water of the womb.' In other words, the bonds forged by choice are stronger than those from the circumstances of one's birth. Would you really choose them over your own kind?"

Zebulun looked around the gathered remaining members of Team Eclipse as the whistle blew. He couldn't blame anyone for ditching after their student advisor and half of the team stained their name as the traitor team. Still, he was fairly content with staying where he was. There was something fun about being on a notorious team, it made them something of the underdog.

It was however surprising when two members of Team Blackjack stepped forward and proudly raised an armband each signalling their desire to join Team 18. Zeb could not have predicted that in a million years. From their first introduction, through the past week, Blackjack had seemed as thick as thieves. This particular iteration of the team had a penchant for drama though. As if to prove Zeb's point, an outsider, a new transfer into the H.E.A.T program, felt it necessary to weigh in their unsolicited thoughts.

Zeb had to stifle a chuckle one of Blackjack's now former members told her to butt out.

"Y'all know there's usually not this much talking." The Blackjack faculty member stated dryly interjecting himself between the boy who had raised an armband to join Eclipse and the girl who had been sitting in a wheelchair.

"Could we please try and keep some manner of decorum, even if you aren't going to remain teammates, you are still colleagues at this school. There will be plenty of opportunities for you to get to know one another, the teams aren't meant to keep you apart, but they are meant to ensure you have the best possible learning experience. If someone feels that they need a fresh start, some distance then you need to respect that, but constantly challenging one another, questioning or giving ultimatums will only create division, not unity."

Apparently, that was enough for another member of Blackjack as Professor Bordeaux's son stepped forward, raising Firebird's armband as his primary choice, followed by an Eclipse armband in his left. The classic, 'anywhere but here, please'.

Turning his attention back to his own team, Out of the corner of his eye, Zebulun saw RJ opening and closing his hands several times, occasionally stopping to give them a shake before resuming the cycle.

"Feeling antsy?"

"I just want to get this part over so I can pick my house." RJ whispered back, "I'm just hoping the beds are better than those cots we've been sleeping on in the Intake House."

"They are," Zebulun replied in a similar hushed tone,
"Saw them when I toured the campus with my Mom. They're more like apartments, private bedrooms attached to a shared living space and kitchen."

"Sign me up."

"Think she'll switch?" Zebulun asked, motioning with his chin towards Alyssa.

"How would I know?" RJ replied, his tone increasing in volume.

"I saw you two chumming it up in the gym the other day, c'mon now, even if it wasn't an instant connection, I don't see her standing particularly close with anyone there."

"I doubt it," RJ replied, "She has no more reason to switch here than I have to go there."

"So you thought about it then," Zeb elbowed RJ lightly as the taller teen scowled slightly before his face relaxed into a grin.

"Of course, I thought about it." He snapped back in feigned irritation. His demeanour changed entirely as Alyssa suddenly stepped forward, raising an Eclipse in her right hand while keeping Firebird in her left.

The second whistle sounded, putting an end to any further argument or pleas for teammates to stay. While most people were able to join their top picks, several students found themselves routed to their back-up picks. Jim wasn't surprised when the dust settled and almost half of Team Blackjack had departed for the other two teams. Likewise, members of both Firebird and Eclipse had opted to move and Jim took stock of the four new faces joining the now team of ten.

"Welcome to Team Blackjack," Jim stated, shaking the hands of Dash Cooper, Elodie Miller, Simone Richards and Layla Schade as they moved from their former perspective team into the line alongside the remaining original members save for Banjo who was of course still in the hospital. The other missing member, Luce, Jim would have to put a notice out to staff members. The Team Swap and subsequently Colour Ceremony were considered mandatory for all students, and lack of participation often resulted in their choices being taken away. With four new inductees to Blackjack, Luce might have just lost her spot on the team.

To Jim's right, Miranda was doing the same as she welcomed Axel Bordeaux, Noah Gallagher and Trace Whitlock to Firebird. Aaron on the other hand had the biggest shake-up as half of his remaining team departed to Blackjack and Firebird. In return however, Eclipse had gained six new members as Aaron welcomed Lucas Bray, Makenna Cloutier-Leed, Iñigo Giménez-Pozo, Sierra Hilton, Suzanne Poots and now, Alyssa Townsend into its ranks.

"Eclipse is lucky to have each of you, hopefully we can move forward with some sense of normalcy. For those of you that don't know me, my name is Aaron Matthews, I'll be your faculty advisor for the remaining school year, and with any luck until you graduate."

As the newly shuffled teams settled, Jonas returned to the nearby podium.

"I think I speak for everyone when I say that was certainly one for the history books. There's never a dull moment here at Pacific Royal." He began, attempting to lighten the mood. "Thank you, students, for your cooperation, now that you've been shuffled into your new team, please review your House choices and then approach the House in an orderly fashion to be presented with your colours."

Jonas departed the podium as the eight house leaders stood up, their House captains each passing them the boat cloak bearing the house colours to be placed on each student that accepted their offers. Looking at each of the teams, the faculty representatives stepped back to release them to their houses.

| Two Days Ago
You know I'm dead set, on making you regret
You'll hear the thunder, and it'll make you wonder
Why ya ever tried, cause you're on the wrong side

The steady pounding of sneakers against the treadmill was drowned out by Alyssa's personal playlist. The track slowed to its end, fading out as Alyssa became immediately aware of her surroundings again. Her heartbeat felt trapped inside her head, as cold beads of sweat ran down her forehead, pooling under her chin before following to her collar. Keen, blue eyes darted back and forth, taking in the various students in the recreational center. She didn't recognize anyone here from Firebird.

Across the fitness center, one of the attendants was quickly pushing a loaded cart. The wheels rolled along the hard, cement floor, the weight of it making it only increasing the noise as its wheels rumbled beneath the burden. Alyssa suddenly felt her hackles stand on end.

Thunder echoed in her ears and suddenly she was back on the Southern Plateau. The tent above her ripped away as cold rain and blinding lightning immediately brought Alyssa out of her slumber. It had already been a restless sleep, the first night away from home, an unfamiliar bed, and the steady noise of the rain outside. Adrianna had been trying to do something, a hand outstretched in futility.

Alyssa briefly returned to her present surroundings only to return to the plateau as across the gym, a weight slipped.

It slammed against the floor with a loud bang as another flash of lightning blinded her. The thunder should have been deafening but all Alyssa heard was a gunshot. Hyperion's mask turned towards her as he impaled Cassander. Alyssa's lower lip trembled, as tears welled in the corner of her eyes, mixing with the cold rain streaming down her face. She was frozen as Cassander's empty eyes turned towards her, pleading for help. Except it wasn't Cassander at all, the tousled hair was replaced by a neat, manicured haircut and Alyssa realized she was staring at the face of her brother.

Alyssa flinched, missing a step on the treadmill, before stumbling backward. From the bare leg before the hem of her shorts, Alyssa's biometal activated, rapidly creating a brace to steady her body and prevent her from falling. The jolt was enough to loosen an earbud, which clattered to the floor while Alyssa took several deep breaths while regaining her balance.

Bending down to pick up the earbud, Alyssa didn't notice the other dark-haired male across from her doing the same until their heads met. Her ability activated again, deflecting the brunt of the impact while a crackle of energy surrounded the male's own head, sparks flew into the air as their heads collided.

"Omigosh!" Alyssa cried, placing a hand on the male's shoulder, "I am so sorry, that was totally my fault."

"No harm done," He smiled, standing up before holding out the fallen earbud. "I think you dropped this."

"Yeah, total klutz," Alyssa giggled as the male extended a hand.

"RJ," He introduced himself as Alyssa shook his hand. Their abilities reacted again, a small spark appearing as they touched.

"Alyssa Townsend." She replied with a smile.

| Now
The envelope contained three small invitations. Each was printed onto a form of paper, likely cardstock based on the firmness and texture by Alyssa's reasoning. The invitations bore a small message, detailing why the House had picked her and signed off with an emblem making it explicitly clear which House it was in case the genus-related name failed to make the connection apparent.

Looking down at her cards, weighing her options and examining how each colour looked against her skin and hair, Alyssa ultimately made her choice. Quickly looking around as she came to the realization she was among the last to choose. All of Team Eclipse had already picked, Robert Scott had accepted the colours for House Canis, the same as Cassander Charon, the same as Oliver she quickly realized before looking down at her cards again to ensure that was not an option. Zebulun Michaels had approached Team Lutra, while Eden Sherewood had gone to Myotis. Both options that Alyssa shared.

Holding her cards up again, Alyssa carefully looked them over, focusing on which attribute each addressed.

Alces, mindfulness. Serene greens surrounded the bull moose that represented Alces. The Lord of the Forest; tall and triumphant, but also gentle and peaceful. The green also complimented her hair well, Alyssa would be lying to say it was not tempting. But she didn't exactly feel defined by being mindful of others, that was just good manners, part of being a good samaritan if one would. She'd reconsider it if the other two didn't add up, but looking toward Katja and Trace, Alyssa didn't really know how the three of them had anything in common. Someone must have thought they all belonged in Alces though.

Lutra, intelligence. Symbolized by calming blues and a frolicking otter, the house was certainly tempting. Alyssa had been taught to value education and subsequently intelligence from a young age. She also appreciated that of her three choices, House Lutra was the only one whose faculty member was female, even if the Captain was not. There was also the bonus of Lutra being the reigning champion of the school's intramural league. Alyssa had enjoyed several sports through her years at boarding school and the academy back in Orange County. Basketball, Rugby, Soccer, Track and Field, it could be fun to be part of a competitive house.

Myotis, spirituality. The vibrant violet hues called to Alyssa as they encompassed the silhouette of a hanging bat. But was spirituality necessarily the same as faith? Alyssa wasn't convinced that her personal relationship as a Christian, even if it was a little rocky could simply be boiled down to spirituality. She couldn't deny the appeal towards the colour, but the bat itself was a little off-putting, perhaps even half the reason why she was worried she wouldn't jive in Myotis. Looking at the others who joined the purple House, Alyssa couldn't help but feel there were no real similarities between her and either of her former teammates.

Completing her reevaluation, Alyssa realized there was only one clear contender for her. Looking towards the blue banner and the familiar faces of Elodie Miller, Sierra Hilton and Zebulun Michaels, Alyssa held up her Lutra invite and approached the House Captain. Isabelle Christianson nodded to the Lutra Captain, Holt Sommersfield as he placed the blue boat cloak on Alyssa's shoulder.

A celebratory cry echoed across the stadium as another joined the current holder of the House Laurels.

The day had been exhausting. Jim collapsed into the leather office chair before using his abilities to push the door to the small office shut. This new iteration of Blackjack was certainly living up to the idea of being 'wildcards', but there was no doubt in his mind that they would test every last nerve he had before graduation. Reaching into the bottom drawer of his desk, Jim pulled out a simple rectangular bottle and poured a small amount into the glass atop the desk. Only upon doing so did he notice the brightly wrapped box placed squarely in the center of his desk. Sitting up, Jim looked around his office quickly, searching for signs of forced entry, or anything else out of place. Whoever had placed the box had been allowed to enter the office, not even a leaf on the ficus in the corner was out of place.

He placed his hand on the box. It reeked of perfume, something overly sweet. It wasn't entirely unfamiliar, he had smelled it in dealing with Collegiate students before. It was the kind of scent a teenage girl would think men were drawn to. The box itself felt sturdy and thick. Too thick for cardboard. Instead, it felt more like the kind of styrofoam one would find inside a furniture box.

Drawing a knife from the back of his belt, Jim gingerly slid the blade under each piece of tape until the wrapping paper simply fell away revealing the single-use cooler inside. Looking down at the top, Jim's eyes were met by a simple note taped to the lid. Pink, cursive writing assaulted his eyes as his heart sank and his stomach turned.

I figured you’d need something to bury.

xoxox
Autumn

Opening the lid, Jim didn't know what emotion to feel first. Rage gave way to grief which melted away to complete disgust as the smell of the contents hit his nose, completely overriding the perfume from the wrapping paper.

Inside the box was Tad's head, the top of his skull sliced clean open.

Leaving the ceremony with their new Houses, the various members of Blackjack, Eclipse and Firebird made their way across campus in the throng of students to the four multi-storey buildings that made up the University Dormitories. Each university student was given a private bedroom inside a unit with three other such rooms. The bedroom itself consisted of a queen-sized bed, complete with storage underneath it, along with a desk, dresser and closet. In the corner opposite the bed, a forty-two-inch television was mounted on an adjusted arm so that it could be watched from just about anywhere in the room. The rooms were overall spacious, big enough that a student could add a couch or punching bag if so desired.

These four bedrooms were attached around a shared living room complete with a large television, a dining table, a sectional and several other pieces of furniture. Additionally, each dorm consisted of a full kitchen for the four students to use along with a shared laundry room. The mentality was to encourage some independence among the students, however, everyone was still welcome to use the mess hall if desired.

Each university dorm was split between two houses. The first building is shared between Houses Alces and Canis, while the second contains both Houses Gulo and Lutra. The third building is split between Houses Lynx and Myotis while the last building is occupied by the Houses of Strigidae and Ursus. Each building has its own private patio, hot tub and in-ground pool for members of either house to use. This patio also contains an outdoor kitchen and grill that can be either reserved or used on a first-come, first-serve basis.

All in all, the university dorms were designed to eliminate any want that the students might have for home and thus optimally designed for comfort and familiarity.

Upon arriving at their assigned dorms and rooms, each student would find the bed freshly made with House themed uniform variants waiting for their arrival. Neatly placed on their desk were all the books and supplies they would need for the semester, along with a letter from their House Captain thanking them for making the 'right' choice and encouraging each student to sign up for the intramural league.

However, for six particular students, beneath the pile of clothing would be a small black envelope. Similar in size to the one they had received for their house invitations, inside was a message accompanied by what appeared to be another house emblem. Black and bearing the silhouette of either a whale or a dolphin, the message above read:

House Orcinus is watching you with great interest.

Should you seek us, come to the Southern Plateau when the full moon meets the sea.

Those that do will not find the embrace of the Pod.

________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

For most, the weekend that followed the ceremony and room assignment went by quickly. Between moving into a new dormitory, and meeting new faces, the weekend was a blur of activity that, for many, was the first time that Pacific Royal Collegiate & University actually began to live up to its initial promise. Tension and unease were still around every corner, and the increased security measures did little to help students forget that, but there was comfort in finally moving out of the Intake House and into a permanent residence.

With the weekend gone, and despite being delayed a week due to the events surrounding Hyperion and Cassander's death, the first class had finally arrived for the latest students to begin their journey through the Hyperhuman Enforcement Accelerated Training program. Teams Blackjack, Eclipse and Firebird were all completing the same curriculum, although attending each course in a different order. Blackjack itself was starting with Intro to Law as taught by the House Ursus faculty representative, Elias Onassis in the Law & Liberal Arts wing of the Academic Quadrangle. Whereas Eclipse would be starting with Victoria Roth's course, Managing Conflict & Intervention Strategy similarly located a few doors down. Her husband, Aiden however had Team Firebird first for Practical Ability Training in the augmented reality center.

All students were required to report their Team Faculty member, to be escorted to their first class of the day. Standing outside of the Mess Hall, Jim looked worse for wear than Aaron or Miranda had expected, the smell of bourbon radiated from the sweat-stained shirt beneath his trademark jacket.

The Chancellor had decided to keep Tad's fate quiet for now, the students were only just starting to come to terms with the death of Cassander. A H.I.T. unit had also commandeered the box and its contents as evidence, which meant that despite Autumn's intentions, they currently had nothing to bury. Suffice it to say, Jim wasn't taking it well.

Miranda had broken the news to Jess who took it even worst, putting in for stress leave and departing the school for an unknown time, leaving the three Team Leaders without their student aides.

Raising his aviators onto his head, Aaron handed Jim a cup of steaming black coffee.

"Best get this into you now, before Blackjack arrives, they shouldn't see you like this."

Jim nodded, uncharacteristically silent as he accepted the coffee with a silent nod of gratitude.

"Do you trust your kids with the Roths?" Jim asked both Miranda and Jim, "Aiden is straight out of Crestwood, Victoria was one of the first in the door of this institution. Wouldn't be surprised to learn their kids call Jonas grandpa. If any form of corruption, Hyperion or otherwise, traces that far back, neither of them have clean hands."

"No love lost between Aiden and Viktor though." Aaron replied, "So not all of the Crestwood kids are tight."

"Aiden was Vanessa's boyfriend, broke up with her the night she was murdered." Miranda replied, "A part of Viktor will always blame him for that."

"Can't say I ever much cared for Viktor, think I'm startin' to see him in a new light though," Jim scoffed, looking up to see Alyssa and a few other students approaching. Rubbing a hand over his unkempt scruff, Jim straightened up and downed the rest of the coffee.

It was show time.

The pair of green eyes suddenly shot open. Blinding white lights penetrated the thick womb-like liquid of the tank, a breathing tube shoved down his throat was barely noticeable with the searing pain radiating from his chest. Behind the glass of the tank were only sterile white walls. He tried to move, tried to swim but there was no surface to penetrate and no room to navigate. A reflection on the glass caught his eye and the figure quickly realized the scarred visage staring back at him was his own face.

He tried to scream, but only a bubble of air escaped his throat.

Lord Wraith Actually Three Otters in a Trenchcoat

Member Seen 2 hrs ago

Clear skies illuminated the rolling hills of the western plains as the wranglers broke across the horizon, driving the herd of horses towards the farm barely visible across the green. The growl of atmospheric engines filled the air as the distinct smell of the starship's exhaust filled the air, the odour covering the aroma of the long grass.

A hull covered in chipped and peeling paint was visible from the ground as the ship descended toward the port beyond the farm.

Space Western
Aliens
Synthetic Lifeforms
Limited Light Speed
Humans are outgunned in most space battles.
Earth is mostly destroyed, existing as a slum world for those who weren't able to get off. Most of civilization is flooded, floating cities exist but as power depletes they fall from the sky. Some live among the flooded ruins of the former great cities.

Mars is considered a successfully terraformed planet but was abandoned for literally greener pastures in other systems. An untamed planet, Mars has two cities, surrounded by rolling plains and small, frontier towns.

Corruption bled into the terraforming efforts. Those released from stasis first used the opportunity to hijack the system and release others in batches to make them easier to control, and more subservient. Many worlds fell into caste or feudal systems. Entire systems run by oligarchies, self-imposed monarchies and even fascist regimes.

Reptilian Race
-Reproduces by placing eggs in those deemed strong. Hatchlings eat their way out, thus 'absorbing' the strength.
-Growing old is considered a dishonour, the highest honour is being chosen to bear the young. This is also reserved for captured enemies they consider worthy.

Special Agent Wesley Percival Montgomery

Hyperhuman Abilities - TBD, something to do with forensics, and investigation. Data extrapolation.

Potentially a liaison from the FBI or another organization, becomes a Hyperhuman through the 'plot' and has to deal with that.

An agent of the F.B.I., and special liaison to H.E.L.P. on United States' soil, Special Agent Montgomery was present during Hyperion's attack on Times Square and ultimately affected by Miracle's attack on the present population. Sent through Viriumosis, Wes survived the ordeal, coming out the other side a changed man; genetically speaking.

Picking up from the events of P.R.C.U., Agents of H.E.L.P. follows a Hyperhuman Investigative Tactical Unit as they delve into not only Hyperion's attack on the school, but also how it connects to the former Director of H.E.L.P., Yakob Kowalski and his disappearance.

Agents of H.E.L.P. is a small, private, invite only RP using a laid-back, and lenient posting schedule to compensate for the different life paces of those involved.
