I enjoy casual (albeit structured) role playing without many restrictions. Preferred genres are Fantasy, Drama, and Adventure, as well as anything with a psychological twist. Preferred partners can spell and write well consistently without much thought about it, and are patient. I won't stick around if you're impatient.

@SilverPawThank you for the question! You're right, I forgot the gegherun's racial skills completely. That might be in part because I'm making sketches of the races for people to refer to. Same with the occ, I listed 30' long but that doesn't mean much without knowing what they look like, I suppose actually mixed up the two reptiles' lengths. I'll be posting the sketches today and add that info.

As for your question: generally-speaking, no, mirabilia or atermagia must be one of a character's skills before they can whip out a spell. I'll try to make that clearer in the text. Although, you're free to invent a character who has those spells as native skills, instead, if you like. You could invent your own kind of magic (with its own history even). Within reason (meaning as long as nothing's deliberately destructive on a personal level or a blatant power grab), I envision this OOC filling up over time with the creations and RPed histories / events of everyone involved. Everything here is just a starting place--a base for players to work off of if they like. Maybe rules will tighten up after we start (for instance, anything new that's history-altering might be a bit jarring later in the RP), but for now I'm welcoming players to make the game something they can enjoy.

I also haven't yet decided on the total number of skills per character...so it starts at 2 but new ones purchased with experience are currently unlimited (it very well may stay that way).

Which restrictions are you wary of? It may be I didn't explain the rules properly.

@AXIS Sounds awesome! I'll put it out there--Marospire at only slightly higher power can animate corpses / objects and possess them. So they wear "many skins" if you will. In fact, you just reminded me I forgot to put that somewhere, haha.

(Edit: I've decided it'd be more fun if they could just straight up possess stuff.)

Also, this is the first game I'm running since...well, forever ago, so if there's anything that's standard for GMing in the RPGuild culture that maybe I'm missing, or even a game mechanic that works more efficiently than whatever I've got in play, I'm always open to that sort of suggestion / criticism. Just let me know!

Having a bit of trouble finding interest in the GIC section, so I'm coming here. Would most likely be posting the RP(s) here anyway.

I have two games I'd love to start and that I'm fleshing out every day. The full post is here. One is a sandbox fantasy in a custom world of my devising, and the other is an alien abduction storyline. Only looking for a few more interested souls for either (or both), then I'd love to get the show on the road!

Also interested in feedback on how I'm presenting info. Being new an' all.

How often/how much can you write?

I'm trying to get a 60,000 word book finished (1st draft)and I was wondering how quickly other writers can get things down.


How often I write varies from once a day to once a week, sometimes once a month. Depends on what is happening in my life. I've written a 70k novel in a month (NaNoWriMo). That was a lot of work and the draft was extremely rough; however, that's the course of things. A first draft isn't ever pretty, mistakes will be abundant, so my motto is to always write what you picture in your head, as fast as you can. I say that sometimes for people who struggle putting stuff down. Just have to go for it and stop worrying about how pretty or coherent it is. That stuff is easier to figure out once we have a complete story anyway. Plus, the feeling of achievement from having finished a novel is a wonderful motivator.

Now, for my special project of 107k words, that took me a year to write, off and on. Some days I'd bust out 20k words, or more, and then I'd get 5k in a month (if that). Not sure what that averages to but, for me, writing is about the fun and the experience.

I've been writing for almost two decades. Have written several novels. Just now trying to publish, but I'm extremely anti-social, so they may all end up becoming family novels. I'm just not into the whole "selling yourself" thing. Maybe I'll just sell the rights, since I've the bad habit of copyrighting them all.

Every single one is more or less about overcoming personal weaknesses, but the overarching plots differ. One is about a boy who fights for a foreign country against his corrupt homeland. Another is a series about animals gaining sentience on a post-apocalyptic Earth. Third is about a woman who was enslaved, kept naive, is freed, then promptly abandoned; has to figure out how to survive. And the current series I'm working on is about a young girl on an epic quest to discover whether or not she's the demon everyone accuses her of being. Then I have a few short stories. Those are just the ones I've written / the first book is done.

I think what stands out about my stories is that the overarching plots are, more or less, confetti. The heart and meat of the works are the characters and what they learn. I also don't pull punches, so the works evoke uncomfortable emotions, apparently. According to those who have read. I wish I had more opinions on my stories actually, but I suppose I don't care enough to get them.

I don't find anything very challenging about writing anymore. I'm always trying to improve the writing itself, although finishing a novel isn't an ordeal. My biggest challenge to date has been attempting to publish. I don't think I'm cut out for that road.

OOC

It's been a long time since my last RP, but I'm eager to jump back in. I have a couple ideas in mind for games I'd like to start then run on a twice weekly basis. These would be for groups counting 4 - 6 people (for starters, at least).

The first idea is far more extensive than the second, but both are counting on a relaxed, fairly in-depth character-focused style of RP.





1.





"You're a resident of the continent Gemflors. You've been living and surviving in your home country and hometown for as long as you care to remember. You have goals, dreams, and the whole of the world is free for you to explore. Who will you meet on your journey through life? Where will you go? What adventures will you find, or will find you?"


Original world and races. There is no overarching plot currently (that may change), with a focus on the characters themselves and their survival / exploration of their home continent. I would be the GM, pulling strings behind the scenes to bring characters together and populating the universe with secrets, NPCs, civilizations, plot, etc. Posts would be ordered, allowed a number of combat actions per, but no paragraph or movement restrictions. I'm interested in painting portraits for the characters.

Writhing, Julia attempted to squint at it between her fingers, but it was blinding. There was a sound like sucking, and lights flickered on along the edge of her container. The glass sparkled clearly, but there was nothing discernible beyond it. There was a voice, though. Clear and yet distant—and not a voice at all.

Premise



The protagonists of this story have been abducted by a sapient alien race. Each character will have a different reason for being abducted (which may not be immediately apparent, but will be learned). Opening sequence is awakening from a state of induced biological stasis (sleep-like), and being herded into a large, steel complex where every character undergoes a type of medical check-up (as far as they can tell). Characters would initially have little freedom to move around and be put in difficult situations. Interestingly, not all human residents of the complex appear to be captives.

Your captors are large and imposing, detail-oriented, with abilities and skills far beyond match. Not even the voice in your head can elude their notice. What do they want, and can you escape?


Setting



Everyone would be in a large, seemingly metallic, multi-storied complex, grouped by threes into rooms called pods (or cells). Character movement would be tightly restricted at first, but there would be later opportunities to freely explore both the complex and the outer alien world.














Anyone interested in either of these? I'll probably only end up picking one, although with enough interest I'd be more than willing to do both. Would love to hear if I'm missing any wanted information on the stories / details. Looking for only a couple more players and then I'd love to get an OOC going. Anyway, thanks for looking!
