There's a difference between the ability to be social, and the desire to be social. I function perfectly fine going outside and talking to people, but that doesn't mean I *like* doing either.

Pilk seems to be trending, so I tried it. Anyone who tells me this is a good drink is no longer a person I wish to associate with.

I should probably mention where I've been at

I've been preparing for going to uni next year and have been a little busy (japanese is lit btw) so I haven't had quite the proper moment to post, but I'll prolly be able to get around to it Wednesday forwards

apologies for the delays folks
I've always had a pretty hard stance against the concept of just tweaking one character, over and over, for multiple RPs. It's like the Ash Ketchum of RPing; Ash isn't an interesting character because he can't ever grow because of the status quo. Keeping with one thing for too long is just adding water to wine, you dilute the experience to the point of meaningless. I personally don't even see the appeal of keeping with one character unless you're self-inserting, which... is interesting.

Making a different character for each RP you join also just leads to more interesting characters, as far as I'm concerned. It gets you to write multiple personalities or make something that slots nicely into the cast instead of having overlap with others.

The only time I'd personally re-use characters are in reboots or sequels. A reboot leads me to get a second shot at writing the same person, maybe with some tweaks to their base to make them more interesting from the get-go and take it in a direction I couldn't before. As for a sequel, I'd only use a legacy character as a side-role at best, as they've already had their time in the sun and I don't want them to be an Ash.

No hate on people who stick to one character, tho. You do you and you have fun; it's just never something I've agreed with. Even in my Tumblr RPing days,(shudder) my one character was continually built on instead of having a soft reset each time. It helps I made him a dimension traveller back in the day, but I didn't want to take away anything from them each time I started a new RP.
Not sure how much I'll be adding to the conversation that hasn't been said already, but ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

A CS, to me, is an integral part to RPing on forums- public Rps, anyway. A private invite-only thing is a free-for-all where the rules are made up and the points don't matter. However, when you're dealing with potential strangers, you need some way to test them and see if they're not pulling a fast one on you. I suppose you could do something janky like having 5 hour philosophical discussions in private with each potential applicant to gauge their worth, but most normal people would prefer something easier to fill in; some kind of test like you'd get in school.

'cause, really, that's what a CS is in the end. You get this sheet of paper with a few questions on it that you're free to write down anything in, and depending on how well the one judging your hand-in likes it, they give you either a passing or failing score, usually with red markers pointing to where you went wrong in the case you didn't pass the test.

How much detail has to go into this is pure personal preference and up to the GM of an individual RP. Personally, I wouldn't go much further beyond a Name/Age/Appearance/Personality/Background slam-dunk, with the addition of any magic, inventory and/or combat prowess depending on the kind of RP you're running. Any other detail comes across as excess to me, especially as I sincerely doubt the use of the name of your third cat, but I can see why others would want to go all Oliver Twist on us and ask if they can have some more. Of course most would then go "MOOOORE?!" back and promptly move on to a new check, but that's the kinda player the inquiring party was trying to avoid, innit?

so yeah, a CS is pree subjective as all hell. Either way, I think it's a great way to gauge both the skill and priorities of any given person. I've found that they work best as a description of the core concept, and most other stuff gets built on as the RP progresses- kind of like a voice actor sounding weird for the first three-ish episodes as they try to work out their definitive voice (and boy do VA's sound weird for the first few episodes compared to the last in whatever the hell I watch). Prolly doesn't help I half-ass any and every CS I can nowadays, as some of the ones where I put the most effort in also belong to RPs that never even got to the IC ᕕ( ᐛ )ᕗ

Oh, and a thing that also works for me is to PM your GM some details you don't want other players to know, just in case there's some mystery element you want to explore together with everyone. I tend to do this a lot.
Poor Hanako tbh. Constant bullying from everyone.

"Mhm. Your number would be nice," Nico answered Hanako. She quickly exchanged contact info and turned back to the two girls. It was amusing to see the both of them confuse her shy friend for someone around their age, but Himeko's safety was top priority right now. The two of them didn't want to stay without someone older than them around, so Nico had to quickly set the record straight.

"Hanako-san actually goes to my school... she's the same age as me. Just stick with her while I go look for Himeko-san, okay? She shouldn't have gone too far, so I'll be back soon."

With that, Nico jogged down the stairway of the shrine and left the three others by themselves. Checking behind her confirmed nobody had followed, so now all she had to do was find a spot to transform. Luckily, this side of town wasn't very busy, so she was easily able to find a not-so-busy street. One of the apartment complexes there had an open garage, a spot with no windows and limited visibility from the outside. It was perfect for Nico. A bright flash of pink light burst from within it as Nico softly touched her chest.

A small gust formed around Nico, carrying sparkles with it as her pigtails sprung loose in the wind. While her hair fluttered freely, Nico's clothes glowed around her body and slowly morphed into something else. The school uniform's top turned into a sleeveless, teal jacket over a puffy cream-coloured shirt as its skirt turned into a pair of skin-tight pants. Her hair coiled back around itself while the hairbands that previously kept it together became a duo of pink-and-blue ribbons. They tied around her new duet of braids which neatly fell in front of Nico's face. A long, pink tail shot out from behind her and waved side-to-side. A pair of whiskers, two on each side, got drawn on Nico's cheeks right as she opened her eyes, showing a heterochromatic pair in the same colours as her new ribbons, but mirrored in placement.

"Transformation... complete!"

Nico breathed out a sigh of relief as she finished her transformation, then looked down at her feet. Standing there was the same cat she fed some treats not too long ago, who must've stumbled into Nico doing her thing. The girl crouched down and scratched behind the animal's ears, smiling as is let out a meow in delight.

"Geez, stop finding me when I transform... you scared me half to death the first time you showed up out of the blue like this!"

The magical girl pat the cat on the head and dashed out of the garage, not wanting to stick around to get caught if one of the residents decided to pop their head out for a look-see. Little pink claws formed on the girl's hands as she ran on all four, in preparation for when she leaped up on one of the walls. Like a bolt of lightning Nico scaled it, about ninety percent sure she hadn't been seen by anyone. Her feline form made the girl pretty quick, so she positively blitzed across the rooftops towards the park she'd felt the shade's presence earlier. Oddly enough, despite her getting closer, Nico couldn't feel the shade's aura at all.

The reason why became obvious as soon as Nico arrived.

"...Oh, hi there!"

Nico cheerfully greeted the two other magical girls she saw at the park, having leapt down from one of the rooftops into a tree. Her tail was swaying side-to-side without a care in the world as Nico looked at the fading shadows from below.

"Guess I was a bit late, huh? Well, I kinda figured one magical girl was gonna show up n'd all, but two? Feels like I kinda came here for nothing, ahaha...!"

Nico's laugh was awkward, but not the least bit nervous as she scratched the back of her head. The girl was blissfully unaware of how powerful either of them were. She also didn't recognise Himeko, but there was this familiar aura coming off her... or maybe it was in response to the sheer pressure emanating off the purple-haired one.

"I'm, uh, not interrupting something, am I?" Nico asked with a tilt of her head.

Momoe Mizuno

"Is that all?"

Momoe stepped out of the crowd after Monokuma's oh-so important message with a flick of her long, tangled locks. The smuggler stopped a short distance away from the stage, one hand on her hip as she lazily stared up at Monokuma. "Let me get this straight: you want us to murder each-other to get out of here, and the motive you give to make us want to do that, is to make it easy for us to get out, right?" she confirmed. Momoe looked back over her shoulder to the rest of the pack, paused, then turned her head back normally.

"Pff... aha... Ahaha!"

The girl burst into laughter, holding both her hands over her stomach to keep herself standing. "Oh, that's great, that's too great!" she mustered out between her fits. It took her a moment to regain her composure, but she did eventually stop to look back at Monokuma again, after wiping a tear from her eye. "C-come on, I've never heard something so pathetic... do you even know what you're doing? I can't believe I took you seriously for a moment!"

Momoe turned away from Monokuma, a bemused smile still on her face. She intended to walk away from the stage, but stopped herself when she saw Ayu staring at her from the crowd. Something must've been bothering the pipsqueak, she figured, considering the small one had already shown not to be afraid of the smuggler. Whatever though; Momoe was still far enough from the crowd that nobody else would've bother her. It didn't hurt to stick around a little longer.
🦀TREE IS DEAD🦀

~~Nico~~

Considering the shrine had looked like a barren wasteland when Nico had seen it only a little while ago, it surprised her to see two really young girls hanging around near it. Nico didn't recognise them, nor was this the kind of place kids usually hung around. She slowed down her pace when nearing the two of them and let go of Hanako's hand, temporarily forgetting the other high-schooler was even there.

"Uhm..." Nico murmured as she thought of how to answer the duo's question of where the shrine maiden had gone. If she answered honestly, these two might go after Himeko, but that would mean potentially running into harm's way. If it wasn't for the shade, she might've helped the duo to look for the shrine maiden. Right now though, she couldn't risk putting more people in danger than she had to.

"Ah, well, Himeko-san went out for errands not too long ago. I think... I think if you wait on her here for a little while, she'll back. I could go looking for her. You don't mind, right, Hanako-san?" Nico asked while turning back to her white-haired junior. If she could squeeze away now while Hanako stayed with these two, she'd be able to keep everyone safe while dealing with the shade!
Tenative interest depending on how much I think I can juggle this with other stuff

~~Nico~~

"Eh?! Me?"

Nico was taken aback from the sudden responsibility of guiding Hanako to the shrine being shoved onto her. What made matters worse is that it couldn't have come at a worse time. Nico felt what Himeko also had- a sudden throbbing in her chest signifying some sort of malicious aura in the area. It was stronger than the regular influx of negative emotions she could feel emanate off the people around her. They were piled up and forming together into a shadowy monster, lurking in the area. Nico thought they normally only showed up at night, but the feeling was unmistakable. To make matters worse, Himeko might run into trouble if she left now! There were plenty of magical girls in the area that could protect the shrine maiden if worse came to worst, of course, but the girl didn't want to endanger her new friend. Being left with Hanako made things so much more troubling, however...

"Ah... okay. Let's go then, Hanako-san."

If Nico hurried to the shrine and then went back, she might still make it in time. With that thought in mind she grabbed Hanako's hand and tugged her along, back from where Nico and Himeko had departed. The shrine wasn't too far, so if they hurried...!
