Peking, September 7th, 1901. The Forbidden Palace has been breached and the foreigners have taken to their prizes. Russians have moved into Manchuria and now occupy it, whilst the Dowager's lackeys have had to sign the Boxer Protocol. The powers of civilization stand firm and the maddened mandarins have been beaten. Today, the Empire Celebrates!

This is an RP set in pre-WW1 and post-Victorian China right after the Empire has been destabilized and the West is occupying the country. The world is changing and China is just one example of this. New ideologies and ideas are spreading like weeds, the bourgeousie is growing whilst the lower and upper classes are getting ever smaller and weaker. Powers are carving up Africa and Asia and are squabbling in the so called "great game." Light hostilities are abound left and right and men are silently killing each other for pawns are nothing when the kings and queens are so high. You will be a minor player in this, fighting for the interests of your country or even relatives if your country has failed to protect you from the marauding foreigners.

Full Name: Do not make it some retarded shit i.e. calling your be-mustached british man daquan. Follow the character's nation's naming traditions and styles too.

Age: self-explanatory.

Gender: also self-explanatory, don't try to be a girl who don't need no man, if you can be a gril but don't try to make her a cossack or a marine or something of the sort when they generally weren't allowed. You can still be a rebel, or a nun, or a spy, etc.

Appearance: Preferably a description and a picture but you should have a description no matter what; a pic will never be a perfect representation of your character and if it is then you have poor imagination/are unoriginal.

Nationality: What is the home country of your character? Preferably be specific i.e. name the city or region your person is from.

Ethnicity: Similar to nationality, you can be British but be more specific ethnically. Are you an Irishman? If from Russia are you perhaps actually a Finn, or Cossack? Which of the Chinese ethnic groups are you? etc. etc.

Service: Who is your allegiance to? Are you a marine or ground forces of your nation? Are you perhaps a spy, or if a rebel is your allegiance to the Chinese Empire, or independent boxer? The possibilities are near endless.

Equipment: What do you generally carry with you? More common soldiers will have standard rank and file weapons of their nation whilst spies and officers have a bit more freedom. Generally you won't have armour, unless your are a veteran of a cuirassier division and have a cuirass from the old days or have some traditional chinese armour. Also mention general things like a cross or a bible, perhaps a locket or watch.

Political views: Not only China is changing, so is Europe. Are you a traditionalist, reactionary, liberal, communist, fascist, apathetic, etc. While this may not come to much use in the RP it will add another dimension to your character.

Religion: Generally this will be some branch of Christianity (Protestant/Catholic in the West, Orthodox/Old Believer in the East of Europe) for Europeans and buddhism, islam or some minor religion if Chinese. However, once again times are changing and all sorts of new forces are appearing. This is after all the era of Nietzche and Wagner, you might be a somewhat repressed atheist, or a neo-pagan.

Not necessarily. The overlord isnt a "oh no, a mosquito of a threat, let me vanquish it immediately!" type of guy, despite what the List suggests. he would most likely overlook your characters due to their apparent insignificance. you dont really have to worry about the overlord yet anyway. since he has his Legion of Terror, Fortress of Doom, and armies of bounty hunters to send your way. Then maybe, after you've located his stronghold and seek to enter it, you might need help. but more than likely someone else will join by then.

Let's hope so. 2 vs. 3 PCs rarely wins even if kek is on our side. But as you said some heroes should join by then. When approximately do you think the RP will start?

Even more relevant considering that was the time longswords and the likes fell out of use in favour of side-swords and heavier two handed swords. It was approximately in the Elizabethean era when people generally started calling them as such when it was no longer the weapon you'd see in a battle and rather you'd mostly be seeing pike and shot; so people made up whatever the fuck kind of name they liked.

Bastard sword is a relatively recently made up and improper name for something between an arming and two handed sword. I mean if you look up bastard sword there isn't even any entry on it the first thing you'll find is a wikipedia article saying "longsword." It's a name so ebin it makes cool kids like skallagrim, meta and lindymeme lose their shit.

Well we've got our battle wizard, and our smooth-talker/trickster. Some sort of a tank would be nice. Otherwise I foresee us getting killed earlier than we already were going to be.
