Ah, many memories. A few went down like such...
-A villain who had once followed a powerful demon lord got to see the demon lord's daughter get destroyed and the demon lord (queen, really) go down soon after. With luck my character escaped out of the portal... into a new roleplay entirely. He's on the prawl today :P
-That one time when my character burst into a bar and everyone, NPC and player, stared for what seemed to be a few posts in a row.
-In a roman roleplay, two armies fighting to the bitter end... and the funny part was that we both ended up with about 1 man beating at each other in the end. The rest, well... was history.
-Using a portal to create a small sun flare to destroy an army in sync with another player's explosions across the invading armies of fishes (long story, same fight and roleplay as Cuccoruler's character went down, actually).
-On a roll in a nation roleplay when everything just stopped. Literally. Nobody posted... still waiting for someone to post something in even the OOC of that one.

And I didn't really explain it, but his powers were sometimes beyond his control at a young age, so every so often he would be temporarily stricken with blindness or deafness, or be unable to feel the ground beneath his feet. And he probably just blabbed about his ability to people when he was young and dumb. As he got older he learned how to turn his power on and off at will.
Second reason I find a lot more plausible than the first. That's the one that I think could play into the first, because if the only reason was the first one, then it would either look more like he was crazy or mentally unstable rather than a freak ability wise. But yes, second reason combined with the first that does make more sense to me.
Might as well post now, I am waiting for everyone else to get something in.
Looks alright to me, although a few points I question a bit.
Firstly, what is the practical use of a halberd when he has a pistol in his coat? Sounds extremely inefficiant; an axe would chop through things much easier if that's the use and if he's trying to kill folks then he would be as effective the guy from Indiana Jones swinging his swords before Jones shoots him with a pistol.
Now, if it's an enchanted halbred of sorts, which would mean it would be nice if you explained how it would have been enchanted and by whom, that would make more sense. But a typical halberd when combined with modern weapons makes him look rather silly when I visualize a mercenary.
Secondly is a detail, just food for thought. With such a passive ability, it would seem that nobody would actually notice his power, even at a young age when he's still exploring it. I would liketo know how folks can consider him a freak when he turns off his hearing and savors the taste of something; it might be a little odd that you're trying to talk to him and he completely ignores you, but I have a little difficulty understanding how that would be a dead giveaway for supernatural powers.
