While Maria did expect some kind of reactionary action or word from Eponine once the rogue left, she didn't expect that. She must have also kept a pent up anger inside her during the entire duration of the meeting, which was understandable given her newly-met acquaintance. While in a normal situation she would have scolded her of acting so violently inside the house and demanded she would go hunt some witch seeds or otherwise recompense, there was a more pressing subject at hand. Besides, she was also close to throwing her tea cup at the wall at some parts of the conversation.

Eponine turned back to Maria and knelt. "I apologize for the property damage I have caused. Please allow me to atone for this transgression by letting me pay for the repairs, and to receive any additional punishment you deem necessary." Eponine looked up at Maria, blood trickling down from the corners of her mouth.

Did she bite her tongue? She is not as devoid of emotion as I assumed of her, then.

"I will be lenient this time and forgive you for your act of transgression," Maria said. At this point, she didn't mind if the entire mansion crumbled, since she would be moving up into a much better building soon.
"But there is something that troubles you. Could it be related to the discussion I had with the rogue? You seemed uncomfortable during it."

Getting a 403 error for those links. Nevermind.

Edit: I found a non-blonde:

Gehrman was starting to become annoyed by the woman's refusal to grant him passage, and thought of checking through the house later. He had better ways to waste his time with than to stand there and argue. For all he knew, his target could be right now somewhere in the city causing havoc using Deville.

"Fine, just tell me where he went."

@The book of bad juju

Something like this?

The woman who answered the door seemed very strange, Gehrman noted. However, in his line of work that was not so unnatural, seeing as he often had to contend with people either brainwashed into servitude by Dolls, or struggling with their situation. Noting how Deville seemed to be out of the house, he still had to check the household for any clues to his whereabouts.

"Your master has become possessed by a demon, and this house could hold traces of its corruptive influence. Stand aside lady, and let me investigate the house."
There was a moment where Maria was starting to lose her cool and turn uneasy, feeling like she has lost control of the situation. However, the moment Eponine defended her Maria once again felt relaxed and reassured. She definitely needed to consult the recent turn of events with her once the rogue left, not only to secure her loyalty, but also to clear her own feelings on the matter. Though she had planned for this to happen, having it actually happen is a completely different thing, and something she also needed to cope with.

"Cooperation really is something, huh?" Chloe remarked casually, as though she was coming across some kind of revelation. Ever terrible at reading a room, she was back to her usual casual demeanor. "My name... your knight's got the priveledge of that info already... but it's Chloe. Chloe Hartmann." She scratched her head lightly with a huge steel finger. "Dunno if maybe you're overstating my accomplishments there, but whatever floats your boat. Good to be working with you. I look forward to the day you try to bump me off. Might just be the best day of my life, heh." Just a little gallows humor as she stood staring past such a dangerous situation. "I hope we can get along until then. Though I guess maybe that's just in the definition."

Feeling like the situation was in her grasp again, Maria returned back to her cheery self, like her previous episode was just a dream. For a moment, she thought of rewarding Chloe with a chance to leave the city once she has become queen, but knew that it would be pointless, and there was nothing she could do to avert their eventual confrontation. She smiled.

"Chloe Hartmann...let's do our best together." She then turned around on her wheelchair, not wanting to see her face for a moment longer. "You may now leave," she said, and made a call to confirm that order to the guards at the gate outside.
Gotta say, Chloe's got some balls, staring down Maria at her most scary without breaking a sweat.
Though Maria didn't show it on the outside, she was furious. She was outraged at the insolence of the rogue for completely defying her threats on Shadow Compact and her life and talking back to her with reckless abandon, but more than that, she was angry at herself for making a mistake like she said.

It never occurred to me that a Shadow Compact agent wouldn't have any loyalty to them. Or a sense of justice for that matter. How could I have been so blind?

Maria's rage started to take the forms of fantasies: they were about dragging her to the basement and torturing her, making her slowly bleed until the floor pooled with her blood. However, she managed to take a hold of herself once she remembered that she was actually willing to co-operate in a certain fashion, and Maria had a policy of not turning down the help of useful people, as loathsome as they could be. There was also the fact that Maria finally had a means of communication with Shadow Compact that was unknown to the rest of the Authority, which meant she now had as good chance as ever of actually achieving her objectives.
Still, she couldn't believe how little value the rogue placed on her own life or the life of anyone else, and wondered for a moment if she was actually a witch in human form, so alien did her thinking seem to her.

After a moment of sitting silent and staring at the rogue like an overweight man would look at a plate of salad, she finally spoke, in a low voice: "Take these." She called Fantine over and had her deliver two items to Chloe: a flash drive and a cellphone. She explained the items:

"The cellphone is in case I need to contact you or Shadow Compact. It only has my number listed, but you can call other numbers with it too. The second item is a flash drive: it contains important data on all the territories and personnel of Aurora City with the exception of mine or my people. It also has a list of weak points: buildings, locations and the like. Attacking these weak points is sure to destabilize the government and loosen Alexandra's grip over the city. Shadow Compact would sacrifice several magical girls to get their hands on that, so treat it with care."

She paused for a moment, and then said: "In return, I only ask for one thing: the name of the one who would stand up to me without fear."

Now then, time to see how many pages in we can get before our first Kyubey murder.

Maria was actually really close to killing him at a couple of points. If he did jump on the wheelchair he would have exploded.

@Krauxis
Yeah, Maria doesn't take it well when things don't go as planned.
Do you reckon he'd taste of veal or game rabbit?

I would want to say he's basically a ball of animal fat on legs, but from what you see of him in that one scene, he's mainly red meat, with very few ligaments or visceral tissue. So if you, say, roasted him over an open fire, it'd be dark, lean meat. He'd probably not require all that much in the way of seasoning, either.

This made me crave for Incubator meat.
