Well, when you said there would be angst and nasty surprises you certainly delivered.
Red blood. That was all Yamato could see after he turned around and saw Shiina fall to the intersection; a crimson wave that swept his beloved Orihime off her feet, and out of his grasp. He looked down at his lover collapsed to the ground in a pool of her blood, unblinking, his face not moving. He couldn't say a word, or even draw a breath. It was like time slowed down for him, every second excruciatingly slow as he dropped down to one knee and held Orihime in his shaking arms. He couldn't believe what just happened. Her heart was gone, taken by some kind of heartless entity that disappeared as soon as Yamato glimpsed up at the building. Then he looked deep into his lover's fading eyes. He could see that this was the end for her, and tears flowed down his cheeks as he caressed her cheek.
"Ori-chan...the moon of my night..." He whispered with a wavy voice. There was nothing else he could say at this point, his tongue paralyzed by the despair that was creeping on him.

"I'm sorry, Yamato, it seems I won't be able to become yours on this life..."

Yamato slowly closed her eyes, and wept in the pool of blood before Chikage appeared. She gave him a doll and said that he could bring her back from the dead and into the toy. He first looked at the doll, and then Chikage, straight in his eyes, without any fear whatsoever. Yamato knew exactly what he had to do, and it would be his final act before the curtains pulled down on the tragedy.

"No...that would not be true life, but only a mockery of one. Necromancy would be her damnation. I...won't cheat death. It is but an end to the cycle of life. I have seen an innumerable number of beasts begin and end their existence in this mortal world. It is a life of struggle, but one that is worth living for. But Orihime...we will be together again."

Yamato stood up while holding Orihime's body in a bridal carry, and ordered San-D to retrieve Jan-P while he retrieved Cham-P and Maga-Z.
After all the hamsters were again in one group, Yamato took one of Shiina's knives.

"My beloved Four Dark Devas of Destruction! As of this day, you shall be released from the blood pact I bound with you, and free from my dominance over you. We shared many glorious battles together, and those I will cherish in my heart as I depart from this world. As a final order, I will ask that you aid me in my own release from this mortal shell."

Yamato then drew the knife over his open palm, and touched each hamster with the bloodied hand. The hamsters turned into their awakened forms.
With Orihime placed next to him, he sat with his knees together, and the blade of the knife held ceremoniously in his hands. Cham-P, the black dragon, loomed over his head, emerald tears flowing from the drake's slitted eyes. The other Devas also cried, a river forming around the two.

"When I carve out the sins of my life, cleanse us with your burning flames and bite the head of that ultimate evil. After that, you have only fate to rule over your lives. Farewell, my Devas." He first hesitated, but when he turned his head, and saw Orihime laying there, he was resolved, and made peace with any regrets he may have had.

Yamato plunged the knife deep into his stomach and carved it out in a brisk move as Cham-P blasted fire at him and then bit his head off. A painful death, but one that Yamato accepted with his entire heart. The circle of life gives life to all, and takes life from all.

Ori-chan...I will always be with you...

@KoL
That's fine. Yamato was a great character, and I did enjoy writing him, but his storyline did come to an end. It would have been a worse fate for him to linger afterwards.

Besides, Overlords are destined to die before their conquest comes to fruition.
@KoL
He would be together with her in death over using necromancy to damn their souls as he believes. As an animal breeder he doesn't believe in cheating death, but embracing it.
Ugh. After that happened, I'm not sure if Yamato would do the ritual; he may actually follow after her into the afterlife. He doesn't want to love a shadow of her, not after they have finally reunited.

That really sucks. Yamato could finally score but nope, poor guy can't catch a break.

@KoL
@DarkRecon
No. Just because I mentioned her a bit more in my post in than the others doesn't make her a main character by any measure of the word, so you don't need to worry about that. Something strange happening to her in the battle of course interests Lorenzo, but he would have been just as interested in others if they had abnormal performance. Also, It's cute how Mai thinks Alexei may be in the infirmary after his Framewerk blew up.

@Elitestpotato can post now. I'm also considering changing this into a more restricted free order (wait four posts and then you can post) to speed things up, so let me know if that would be a good or bad idea.

@KoL
I was expecting that answer, so here's a more wholesome choice.
@KoL
This would be my suggestion.
Bumping for interest.
The thread has been awfully quiet these past days, and I'm starting to wonder if a free order would be preferable at this point.
