She also is skilled at disguises. Alignment: Neutral Evil Personality: Assallya Kressair is a charlatan, con-artist, dancer, courtesan, and really whatever role she can think of that gets her by. She is exceedingly good at lying and feigning emotion. Generally, there are two ways to look at any good deed. One could perform such an act out of honest good will but others look upon it as an investment by establishing a bond that can be exploited at a later date. Assallya is of the latter. She is a coward, a braggart and a bully but what she isn't is needlessly cruel nor traitorous. She would not betray her fellows, not unless the reward involved a sum large enough to alter her life substantially. After all, What use is scoring a gem or two in return for a half dozen angry and resourceful adventurers eager to tan your hide? She'd probably be the first to flee when things went sour and most likely wouldn't last more than a moment before capitulating to torture (particularly if they threaten to mar her appearance) but she's also the type to plan ahead in case she is captured to ensure she wouldn't have any information to divulge. After all, if she betrays all her allies who is left to perform a rescue? She also has something of a phobia of the undead which are largely immune to her magical abilities. She, thanks to her upbringing, most unlike an elf, despises all things related to nature. Inventory: Spellbook, dagger, a collection of semi-previous jewelry. A magical ring that protects her bare feet like she was wearing boots. A magical comb that cleans and conditions her hair. Writing implements: Ink, charcoal and a book of blank parchment. She is currently saving up to commission a vardo wagon which should make her travels much more comfortable. History: Assallya Kressair was born in the autumn in a small village on the outskirts of Evereska. At the young age of 26 (aprox. 11 or 12 in human years) Zhentish slavers attacked and killed her entire village except for those taken as slaves. Assallya, her sister Saeliah, and several others were transported far across Faerun in order to avoid the elven wrath sure to follow. In the city of Calimshan Assallya and Saeliah were separated when Assallya was purchased be Pasha Alkiel. Head of a powerful group of rogues, Alkiel purchased her as a dancer and concubine for both personal use and for information gathering and blackmail. She then served in Alkiel's bedchamber for the next eight years while being trained in dance, seduction and other roguish arts in order to perform her duties. She was treated as an object and was given to allies and employees of the Pasha who performed exceptional services. Soon enough, she learned about the many different types of power and discovered that even as a slave she was far from powerless. Succeeding in seducing one of the Pasha's magicians she bid him teach her magic. At first he balked until Assallya cast for him the only thing her father had taught her at that young age, a cantrip. A small thing, it changed the colour of his fingernails, but it was magic none the less. He agreed then, for he was a lonely uncomely man who rarely received a woman to his bed. However, he placed conditions on his tutorial; refusing to train her in combative magics and warning her that should he ever target him with her spells it would mean her death. She surprised all of them by inventing an inferior version of the invisibility spell which allowed her to sneak away from the Pasha's clutches and return undetected. In this way, by filching jewels and prostituting herself she built up savings with a money lender. It was with the aide of the Pasha's son that she succeeded in poisoning the Pasha, planning on becoming a partner to the successor instead of a slave. With her manipulative mind behind him to advise his passionate power they were sure to bring their competitors to their knees. What she was not expecting was the Pasha's extended family to hire a necromancer to speak with their departed kinsman. He quickly named his murderer and Assallya regretted bragging as he died. She ran, the Pasha's son giving her a few moments to escape, fearing that she would claim his involvement which would lead to his family asking him uncomfortable questions. The next few months she moved slowly north, the sands left behind her and the lands becoming more lush and green. Notes: Low HP, Level 2. Charisma 20. She is a devotee to the goddess Sharess of old.
> No, that's incorrect. Anything without a moral stance is Neutral. Animals, Elementals, and people who just want to live their daily lives. To be Neutral Evil is to be more than just merely apathetic towards Good and Evil, Law and Chaos, it's pulling others down to raise yourself up. And generally Neutral people don't always take the neutral approach, they perform good and evil acts - help a guy out here, be a selfish prick there. Ah, that's definitely third edition nonsense, and contrary to the true alignment system. Animals and elementals don't have alignments because they don't align themselves with different factions of the gods. That's the key word there, "Align". Such lofty ideals are the domain of men. The alignment was lifted from Michael Moorcock's Incarnations of Immortality system and back in first edition only consisted of a Law and Chaos axis, based off of the factions of gods in his works. Generally if you worked within the bounds of civilized society (law) or flouted them (chaos). Half way through they added in the Good and Evil axis. It's a faction system. Now it's important to remember that the alignment of a character shows their ALIGNING with various factions of gods. Characters didn't choose patron deities back in the day, one pledged allegiance to an entire faction. If you were unlucky to be noticed by a particular god then he or she would chose you to represent them on a more personal basis. It's a very Dodekatheonic way of looking at things. The entire idea was backwards to the morally exempt ideals we use today. In short, alignment isn't about expressing one's personality. It's about what gods they serve and there's no divine faction of "I'd rather not get involved."
Michael Moorcock would be rolling over in his grave to hear that and it sounds like some Third Edition nonsense to me. "Neutral I don't give a damn" is neutral evil. Stepping over a dying man and refusing aid isn't neutral. It's evil. The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing.
Ah goodness... Warforged. Assallya isn't going to like them. Rather hard to seduce and twist around your finger they are. Assallya certainly has no qualms about murder to get ahead in life so I find the alignment rather fitting. She'd step over a dying peasant without lifting a finger to help him, and rather pick through a wealthier dying man's pockets than save him unless there was some reward greater than in his pockets. She just doesn't murder her own people :) Neutral Neutral, actively works towards maintaining the balance. You can't trust those sorts. Always going off and switching sides on you. Then there's Neutral Good, the alignment of peasants. She certainly doesn't fit that. Sure, while the local peasants will lend aid to a dying man Assallya might do the same... but only if there's a possibility for profit. *grins* It's all about intentions.
Ack... right so. Right so. In which case, instead of a bump I should have recommended a new thread. Entirely my mistake there.
You might want to cut and paste your introductory OOC post into the Interest Check. It's quick and likely inspire more interest than what it says currently about an ill choice in rule making.
Hmm... It does appear we have lost a few members. A quick edit to the first post of the interest check stating that we've just started and that there is still time to jump in might be appropriate. That downtime the moment the thread was being posted might have been more than some of our younger folk with their short attention spans could manage.
Having returned to dancing Oona considered the patrons. Her eyes, routinely were drawn to the dark garbed man who say defiantly in the corner, taking up an entire booth to himself and scorning those that approached in search of camaraderie and a good story. A simple scowl from that one was enough to set all but the most adamant or possibly foolish on their way. Another, who very nearly sat at her feet at the bar upon which she danced also interested her. The very antithesis of the other. He had a kindly visage though it was difficult to tell with the beard. Twi'lekki were inherently hairless, Oona's own eyebrows being tattooed in order to make humans more comfortable; That made it harder to read the facial features of those that possesses beards and long hair. Wookies and their ilk were practically a mystery to her own kind. She did discern some sort of loneliness or loss of some sort. Perhaps it was a lost lover, such things could prove most useful. Oona slid down on of the poles, gyrating her hips as she crouched, putting her firm buttocks directly in line with Dorian's gaze. The other was too far away to easily draw his attention so this bearded human would do. It was a carefully selected distance to attract attention but not close enough to warrant an out thrust arm pushing her away. Slender curves were only loosely obscured by a short curtain of beads. Hugging the pole against her she gazed over her shoulder, lekku sliding down her back as she tried to discern how he was being affected. They were but two of several candidates. Attaining her freedom, like most slaves, was always on her mind and it would take a person of means to accomplish that. That person would be possessed of either great compassion for others or possess a significant amount of lust to bother themselves with a mere slave won in a sabacc game and slaves such as herself were half the cost of a light freighter.

Enh... everything that happened when they introduced fourth edition sucked anyways. Seriously, eliminating nearly two thirds of the gods? It's also why the new storyline is going to undo nearly every change that was made.
