In the core book of second edition that is correct. The supplements, each of the racial handbooks and the bard book included quite a number of variations on the bard. The Dwarven Battle Drummer was particularly interesting. He could rouse his clan's morale in battle with a steady beat upon his drums and an Earthy chant. Second Edition lasted for a great many years and even had a few sub-editions.
Well, Rumiko mentioned multiple characters but no more than one per party. This implies, to me at least, that she's looking for quite a number of players. Additionally, we have but three applications at the moment plus Rumiko's own character for a total of four? I would feel safe providing the assumption, and yes it is an assumption, that there is plenty of room.
I meant by comparison to bards in the first edition which had to progress up as a bard, then become a rogue and finally a druid before finally being allowed to take up the bard class. It was crazy.

In second edition, being able to play a Paladin, Ranger or a Bard was a rarity. In fact, the initial die rolling determined your entire career. If you rolled poorly you were likely going to be a rogue. You also died when you hit zero hit points. There was no "unconsciousness" or "negative ten" bleed. Generally, all statistics were pretty much the same unless you were under nine or above fifteen. Ability bonuses were rare.

It was only later that we implemented 4D6, drop the lowest die and the point buy systems so that you could play the class you really wished for that things started to change.

Oh goodness, first edition bards were insane! Dual classing twice? Thankfully second edition fixed a lot of that. I particularly liked second edition's "Create a Class" feature from the Dungeon Master's Guide. I created a class that required zero xp to go up levels :) Yes... you would start at INFINITE LEVEL!!! Mwah hah hah hah hah! Mind you, no GM would allow that for some reason....

Realistically, any class can be a bard. I've seen fighter bards, rogue bards and wizard bards. All you need is the ability to play a single decent instrument, have a reasonable charisma, and a penchant for gossip and storytelling. Mind you, my favourite from second edition was the "Riddlemaster Kit" for the bard class. I had a ten page list of riddles that I carried for days and came to memorize. I then challenged nearly every NPC to riddle contests like Bilbo and Gollum.

Assallya Kressair oversaw the small child cleaning the Silken Sithin. Child labour was nothing new, especially not to brothels. Despite the use of sheepskin contraceptives and various herbs children were a natural result of what occurred there. The boys they sold off to anyone willing or the state. The girls they kept for themselves, using them in varying capacities until able to take up the trade. This young girl was dusting the gilded pieces of fake ostentatious pieces of artwork. Everything had the appearance of a noble person's lavish estate but nothing could be truly valuable for one simply couldn't trust those that frequented such establishments.

Seeing that the girl was doing fine, Assallya decided to step into the front half of the estate she shared with Valalia Selwyn. Valalia's primary responsibility included taking care of the bathouse, the Sylvan Springs. She also passed through those customers that were interested in more than a bath. Few people knew that Valalia was a succubus. It was a secret Assallya kept. One day, Assallya hoped to find out the demon girl's true name and gain absolute power over her but so far hadn't any luck.

"Valalia!" the blond elven woman called out as she passed through a beaded curtain, "Valalia, the nine hells blasted men delivering the faggots are tardy again. We need to send a runner to check on them. We can't afford to run out of wood."
My apologies, the initial post states to PM a second character, not a first. Hence my immediate posting.

I would also add that I never intended to include adult content. Such content would be "fade to black". I was going to focus on information brokering and facilitating illicit activities: smuggling, robberies, assassinations and other dastardly activities.
Why should the Succubus work in a bathhouse when she can work in a brothel? :)

Mind you, maybe we should combine the two concepts into one?
Name: Assa'alliyeh Kressanthalar (Assallya Kressair in simpler human tongue)
Birthday: Spring 10th
Age: 167
Gender: Female
Species: Elf
Looks: Pale rose blushed skin, azure eyes, tresses like spun gold
Personality: Arrogant,
Job: Matron of the Brothel called the "Silken Sithin". (A Sithin is the faerie term for a Faerie Mound that leads into their world)
Family: Assallya's parents were murdered in the attack where she was captured as a slave. Her sister, Saeliah, has become an adventurer somewhere out there...

History:
--Assallya was born in in a colony at the edge of Elvish lands. They were attacked by Orcs and she was kidnapped and sold into slavery hundreds of leagues distant.
--Growing up in a desert land far to the south, Assallya learned how to dance, entertain in order to be of service to her owner and eventually learned some magic.
--Eventually Assallya escaped by pitting the heir apparent, the son, against his own father. She fled to the north leaving a very angry father and a dead son.
--Assallya then worked as a prostitute for several years, doing adventuring on the side.
--She was going through a dungeon, seeking out an ancient scroll that would purportedly grant her unique and powerful magics when she instead found a strange stone.
Picking it up brought her to the strange town of Alveria.
--Not having a clue where Alveria even was, nor how to get back, Assallya fell upon her old trades and opened a brothel.

Magic: Assallya is versed mainly in enchantments and illusion. Her specialty is manipulation. She knows little in the way of combative spells. She an also perform summonings but knows no true names. Thus, she would need to bargain with any demons or devils and such creatures nearly always ask for ridiculous things like virgin sacrifices or insane amounts of gold or a powerful magical item. So totally not worth it.

Marriage requirement: Wealth, Handsome features, possible royalty. Essentially she assesses a husband based on how useful he would be to her.
