Take your time. Now that your schoolwork is done you can breathe, relax and get your bearings.
Assallya momentarily entered her wagon and rummaged through the drawers, searching through herbs, balms, potions and unguents. After several moments she found the sealed jar she was searching for. Char was looking at her, the small kobold's black beady eyes able to see so long as he stayed inside the wagon. The field outside the inn was far too bright for those of his kind.

"You stay," she yipped at him, using the strange bird like, draconian derived language the small lizards used, "humans excited. They stabby."

Stepping back out into the bright sunlight, the blonde elf's golden tresses blazed like a beacon with reflected sunlight. She quickly made her way across the open field, ebony translucent silks floating around her limbs as she approached. While moving she studied those participating from behind long mascara darkened eyelashes. The lizard admittedly drew more of her attention. His scales looked thicker and harder than a normal lizard's. There was also the addition of small horns. Very strange. She'd almost call him dragon-kin if they weren't known to be extinct. Certainly they were rarer than even elves who had mostly withdrawn to their own lands. Maybe there was still a small colony of them somewhere? There was the woodsman, who looked fairly typical for his breed and somewhat attractive. Then there was a rather distraught dwarf who was proclaiming his disappointment in missing the fight. She'd never understand those that lived for combat. Finally, there was an elf in the distance atop the balcony, visible only out of the corner of her eye given her current direction. By all the gods, she despised elves.

"Is there anything I may do to help? I have brought poultice," Assallya proffered in small slender hands, holding the jar forward like an offering before a shrine, "should we run out of divine gifts. It should aid in healing and clean the wound of any mundane rot. Should the creatures be empowered with a more formidable affliction, a servant of the gods will be necessary."
Huzzah! Another edit done! This time I'm attempting to lure them away and then will hide inside the wooden wagon :) Having a door you can lock is sometimes really handy.
I threw in the bit about the punching mainly as flavour text so that Assallya could ponder the possibility.. I never once indicated that the mace wasn't blessed or was ineffective, nor did I state that Arco wasn't capable of slaying demons or undead. In truth, I rather assumed once the other heroic types managed to give him room to breathe he'd start blessing their weapons and thus bring a sense of a budding team to the fray.

My general difficulty is that without knowing more about these creatures I can't exactly summon up and illusion of something that would strike fear into their unbeating hearts and thus give them pause enough for the heroes to take advantage. My character is based around knowledge. When there is no reference material my character is rather useless. How do I choose a spell appropriate to the situation? Maybe a blinding flash would have been better? Maybe an illusion of a bigger beast or creature? Maybe that pouch of powdered garlic, or the one of silver dust in the wagon might prove useful?
Ah... hunh... *is confused, not angry or upset*

Well, if they are demons... then I guess what I wrote should work. Devils and demons should pretty much be some of the scariest monsters you can face in any setting, even the weakest of them should give one the chills and have common folk running for the hills.

Generally, I have a character that knows about monsters, demons and spirits but doesn't fight them herself. She advises others in how to do so, creating something of a niche role and letting other, more action oriented types, take that particular initiative. When there's a monster with no background my character is effectively shut down.
Which then leads me to the following question; What are they? Where do they come from? What is their motivation? Assuming they aren't vegetarian, what do they prey upon? What preys upon them? How do they procreate? Where do they lair?
I basically base most of this stuff on D&D since that's where all the modern fantasy RPGs come from (which in turn descends from Tolkien of course).

I rather assumed the Dredge was a typographical error since I couldn't find any reference to such a thing online and figured it was a Dretch. Dretches are demons from the Nine Hells and they "hate" paladins and all things "Good". Unfortunately, as demons and devils are not from our world they aren't vulnerable to our weapons. This is where clerics, priests and paladins come in handy. They have the ability to bless items or people and make them "Good" and demons and devils have a vulnerability to things that are "Good."

Needless to say, I'm quite confused now.
Yeah, I didn't check for an update after I came up with my post idea on the way home. Thus I missed Barden's intervention.
Well, we were waiting on Alexi... for FIVE days. At this point our GM will hopefully have the cannons open fire and blow the pirate girl to smithereens.
crap... edit incoming
