This is all history. Waaaay before I ever came around. It’s just setup. The takeaway is, we were hunted down heavily. We were slaughtered, and the people who tried to claim the secrets they were not meant to know, they fell victim too. And their deaths were blamed on us. As strange as it sounds, we were saved by an offer, of sorts.

To be as to the point as possible? Violent conflict. When people didn’t believe our reasoning for not sharing and just thought we were being greedy and hostile.

It stems from several things, and it’s historically disputed since there’s no officially agreed-upon reason. It’s most likely either due to old teachings that stem from the mystical side of the Elements, or understanding of their destructive power and what it would do in the event of any civil war.

That is true, the first part. This is all history, of course, so I wasn’t there for it or anything. But what we were taught is that we were a peaceful people at that point and didn’t have experience in conflict, even amongst ourselves. War wasn’t something that had ever even been recorded in our history before then.

It’s a common occurrence. Look at it like two neighboring nations, for example. One of them has technologies and resources the other does not. The sort that improves quality of life in ways infeasible to the other. In a normal diplomatic relationship, the country with the technology would, perhaps, share the secrets and knowledge of such things out of a sense of kindness or humanitarianism. That sort of thing. Builds a working relationship that then spawns alliances and all that follows.

So you can imagine how it was perceived, ages and ages ago, when we hit that point that any society does when it’s advanced enough. Going to space, colonizing worlds, eventually even going interdimensional, admittedly something easier for us than most. How others looked in on us from outside.

Well it’s a good enough foundation. Usually, there’s essentially no one who can interact with them or even understand them on a fundamental level. A few individuals across all of Existence are exceptions. The entirety of my people, though, we have a special bond with them.
