(CLOSED) Avatar - Superpower RP

THE OTHER YOU

Everyone hides behind a mask; around their family, around friends, strangers, lovers. No one is ever truly themselves around others… ignoring a specific few. Those known as “Awakened” are people who’ve freed themselves from social camouflage, embracing their true selves no matter the crowd. These Awakened transform into avatars—a manifestation of their true self—and it is up to them to figure out how to use their powers.

Your characters will guided and mentored into this new world of superpowers and peril by the Lightwatchers, the self-proclaimed good faction protecting the city from the Darkwalkers. But there's always a chance to be swayed to the dark side, should they get their hands on you first (or perhaps you have change of heart).

The RP will begin by playing out each characters awakening.

THE PITCH

A character-focused RP with transformation powers thrown into the mix! Setting is modern day, vaguely NYC, and your characters can be and become just about anyone. Every character can transform into what's called an "Avatar"; this transformed state is based off their hidden/true selves and allow them use their powers. The entire RP is based off the psychology term Masking, so try and lean into that if you can! _{Be as weirddd as you like...}

MECHANICS

Awakenings

Your awakening doesn’t have to be a full shedding of the “mask”, it can be a small/minor act that aligns with the character’s true self.

Avatars

Every character has an avatar that they can transform into on command. Avatars can only be awakened when the character embraces their true self in some way (revealing a secret, being more vulnerable, etc).

Avatars have special abilities & powers specific to the person transforming.

Avatars can range from an outfit change to a full transformation (think Guilty Gear dragon install). Extent of transformation depends on the person’s secret/how much they’re hiding their true self.

Multiverse Adventures

Eve takes in the scene and listens silently, though it's a bit clear his head is elsewhere. All these lizards, dragons, a talking wolf... honestly? It was starting to remind him of home; maybe a little grander and stranger, but the basics were there. "Mail-man?" He looks at the 'Goldmonger' and cocks his head to the side. "I think you, like, have me mistaken, gold guy. I'm Eve Vil, famous bard, the only messages I carry are tales of awesomeness, I can--uh--never mind." He reaches for lute before remembering that he probably shouldn't play it in such a situation.

He clears his throat and equips his backpack again. "All these letters are, like, from my fans."

"And man, all this talk of souls and realities is kinda frying my brain." He addresses Allux with a sorry look. "And uh, sorry, I can't really help you with the water stuff, I never learned the spell for it. The healer's got you covered though!"

"Sure as hell." He laughs and repeats the phrase again before downing the glass. "Sure as hell..." The liquid burns the back of his throat and he's left crunching ice. He rests a hand on the counter, fingers mindlessly tapping against the surface. "What's this place called? All my life in towns 'n' I ain't ever see a bar so..."

He takes another look around, eyes scanning over the anxious girl in the corner and Teresa sitting a few seats away from him, then back to the other customers. Wasn't like the other bars he's been too, not too much fighting going on; no rowdy customers overstaying their welcome or yelling. More importantly, he wasn't being called to break up a fight or two.

"Refined." He sets the empty glass back on the counter. "Never seen a bar so refined in all my years of livin'."

He overhears a bit of Teresa's conversation and returns his attention to the bartender. "So, this some kinda after-life?--Purgatory, as they say. Would make sense as to why everyone's so calm, no point in fightin' when you're already dead.... Figured if I ended up anywhere, it'd be six-feet under and burnin' dead."
