Current Euh. It's been a hot minute. Things are rather different for me now, and I don't know how that translates to my presence here.

I don't *think* I'm a bad person. I might be wrong there. I try not to be, even when I screw it up for want of social awareness.

Infamous Quotes From People Who Exist

“I really don’t follow how your faith believes its perfectly acceptable to doom 4,000 years plus of sentient beings, on a pre-set path of no escape from sin, just so their descendants can be offered the ‘chance of salvation’ when the god murders its own son.”
~vikaTae

“Don’t be an ass or a pussy, ’lest you get screwed by life. Being a mouth or a hand is somewhat safer, and an eye socket is pretty much sacred in this regard, so always keep a look out.”

Alessa Heather: PRT Headquarters

Messiah was glad to be able to set a good example as second-in-command, even if it was a minor precedent all things considered. Shortly after this, Sonar began speaking in words that were not his own, clearly the leader of the group and one of his lackeys. From the sounds of things, there were twenty one in total, though only the boss had any sort of parahuman power available to him... even so, the gasp Epsilon made as a result was clearly one of fear.

Messiah didn't have time to say anything to the girl before the elevator doors opened, revealing the lobby for the PRT headquarters, some agents, and a few guests with cameras. Faced with cameras whose images would probably be ruined by the light coming from her eyes, Messiah simply waved to the crowd as they cheered, paying attention to Sonar as he announced who their opponent was: Eyeblight, who could transform into a sort of scarecrow at will, as well as causing significant distress in those who looked at him. Strong, but potentially very weak to her particular ability... which was exactly the problem, in this case. In that state, she suspected she'd have to actually set him on fire to cause any harm to him at all, and she didn't know whether he had any safeguards against something like that. She certainly didn't want to kill him accidentally... though against the normal humans, a persistent wave of heat like a sauna would be enough to render them less viable in a fight, if she could make them sweat bullets until they passed out, or at least induce heat exhaustion. Not heat stroke, though. That would be too far. Not to mention the potential ways in which that could negatively affect her own team members, perhaps moreso for the costume, since it wasn't like Messiah could prevent friendly fire with a wide-area effect like that...

Speaking of teammates, Ira still seemed a bit on edge, staying near the back as the group began to move out. Considering her relative lack of abilities outside of her Tinker power, this was fair enough; even so, it occurred that perhaps she needed some encouragement. Messiah fell back to her, placing a hand on one of Epsilon's shoulders and asking 'Hey, you doing alright? You seem nervous,' whilst also letting out just a little bit of heat, a sort of warming pad in order to help calm her ally for the upcoming fight. She would have smiled in a reassuring fashion too, but the light and all. Indeed, she hoped she wasn't blinding Ira too much at this proximity, though she consciously re-angled the direction of the light from her eyes to try and avoid this.

Raymond Haywood: Icehouse Hideout

50% bonus. If that meant 50% of the initial $100000, that was another $50000 for a single target. Rarely was any hit so valuable.

That was about as far as his thought processes got before the man walked into the room, in full costume, complete with what appeared to be armour plating, and emitting an aura of intense chill from his person. Of course this was a fifty thousand dollar hit, Headhunter realised. Normally, he was taking out opponents from more than a kilometer away with an anti-materiel rifle; here, he was all but trapped in close proximity to a target who could almost certainly freeze him solid with a thought, who he might not be able to reliably kill with the relevant weapons, and the idea began to manifest as mild claustrophobia. Finishing off his water and pulling up his face scarf, he continued his checks on the rifle as Love Craft made flirty smalltalk with the target, noting the androgynous character's own mislabelling of their power, at least if Broker's assessment of it was correct. As far as first impressions went, the strange white-haired teen seemed a little over-friendly, to put it mildly. Attractive, at least by Raymond's metric, but excessively touchy.

But that was neither here nor there. He had a job, and step one was getting in position. Putting the rifle back over his shoulder, he waited until Love Craft was done with their spiel, then stood to shake the target's hand, introducing himself in a suitably ironic fashion: 'I am Headhunter. I hope our careers together will be long and illustrious.' Whether or not the handshake was taken, he then took himself over to the wall just behind the target, leaning against it non-chalantly, and waited for an appropriate moment when the target was paying no obvious attention to him. Perhaps another one of Chatterbox's prolonged rants would give him the opportunity he needed...
@Jbcool Hey, you never know! Maybe the captain and screaming mad-man slagging the control room inadvertently stopped the reactors from going explode. Or, like, let the four which are on the verge of exploding be the only four, since Techs-Mechs over there can apparently purge that many without risking an explode?
@bluetommy2 Excellent.

@LancerOfBlue Solaris and I discussed this, and we've come to the conclusion that it's definitely plausible. Feel free to go over what benefits you think might be gained from it.

@Jozarin Considering that there are four races to pick and choose from, and multiple factions within those races which may or may not have any particular reason to co-operate, there's no obligation to play nice with people from other factions, and no reason to do so against the other races, since they're all at war with one another and all.
@Kafka Komedy Uh, yeah, that all sounds reasonable enough, with just the weapons and jetpack in the Pak and everything else in other devices on his person. As far as protection goes, you could just have the suit be some high-tech armour substance by itself, since future developments and that. So that works out.
@Kafka Komedy I'd say all of them are potentially feasible as far as tech goes, though the EM field's deflection probably wouldn't be too extreme, more like bending the bullets around the wearer (if they're not fast enough to hit the target before being deflected too much) than sending them flying off into the walls at each side of them, and we've already discussed the AI and scanners as being able to give accurate tips and strategies when fighting foreign enemies. The problem comes with fitting all of them into one relatively small device: at the very least, the jetpack and weaponry seem like they'd conflict with one another as far as moving parts go, but I'd suggest that the brain-altering aspects of the Pak could- and, since the back is not where the brain is located, arguably should- be moved to something mounted on the head, perhaps even within the brain tissue itself. There's also the argument that the EM field would disrupt the AI, but we have ways of protecting against EM interference in the modern age, so that's a moot point.
@Lucidnonsense It's cool, don't worry. No floating rocks, unless they've been specifically enchanted to do so. As for your question... I'm tempted to say "no". Below a certain threshold, I'd imagine that the flow of magic through a person would get steadily weaker without almost constant practice, until it simply dried up entirely. Chances are, said drying up would occur before one was a toddler, since whether or not one can use magic is something determined at birth, and after that, they're just as powerless as the majority of people. So, no super-minor mages - if you're a minor mage, you probably have at least enough power to kill a person as though you had a gun on you.
Alessa Heather: PRT Headquarters

Well, it certainly seems like Ira and Lyn are hitting it off well! Alessa thought to herself, smiling at their interaction with one another. She certainly wanted Lyn to feel as welcome as possible, after all... the more friends they all made, the better. Though on that note, she'd not missed Tulpa's somewhat dismissive comment to Margrave earlier. As she'd said to the girl already, he meant well, and even if his attitude was a bit much, she hoped Elliot wouldn't just be dismissed as a terrible person in Tulpa's mind. That, and... well, she hoped he wouldn't discount his power either. It didn't live up to his bluster, true, but it was still useful in its own right! Tinkers hate him! And, well, he wasn't really liked by many other people... ahem.

But the moment passed, as Sonar confirmed that Decoy had the situation under control, only to call the Wards to him again, this time to deal with what sounded like a much more major security breach. A Community member! Those guys made up the majority of Denver's troubles, it seemed, and even Alessa had a hard time finding anything good to say about them. With one so close to the PRT headquarters, surely nothing good was about to happen unless they stopped it. Alessa stepped into the elevator with that in mind, and it began its descent toward their next fight. Amongst other things, she saw Dean checking his gear prior to entering the elevator, and Ira removing her mask to allow herself to breath easier... for a hero, she was perhaps a little out of shape, judging by her reaction to simply running a few feet. Her costume may have had something to do with that as well? Alessa didn't really want to judge too hard...

A gasp from Tulpa distracted Alessa from her musing, and she glanced over briefly, before re-averting her gaze toward the floor as a means of focusing herself for the fight rather than being distracted by her thought... then she frowned. It looked, for a moment, like some strangely-placed light had been on the floor, only to vanish from sight near-instantly. She blinked a few times, checking to see if it hadn't been a temporary glare imprint from glancing at one of the lights in the hall, then shook her head. She was sure it was nothing, maybe a trick of the light in the elevator itself... And speaking of light, I ought to get myself disguised, Alessa pondered. Steadily, her eyes began to glow a bright white colour, not blindingly so, but enough that her entire face was obscured for the coming fight. There weren't exactly any other preparations to make - make sure she was disguised, make sure she could put up a heat shield at a moment's notice, and remember that her power had the potential to be excessively lethal if misused. And she didn't plan on misusing it.

Raymond Haywood: Icehouse Hideout

'It does. Thank you again,' Headhunter stated, quietly sipping his drink as, for some insane reason, Chatterbox chose to make a rather large scene. Yes, of course they were subordinate to the Broker; that was the point of being hired by the man, surely? He paid them money, they did his bidding. The most basic employer-employee relationship around. And so what if he'd never heard of him before? He'd never heard of David Bjornson either, until he was hired to kill the man. Still, Raymond wasn't exactly impressed with the chatterbox, and he figured the Broker wouldn't be either.

For that matter, neither was the nameless girl on the team, who shortly after the prettyboy ceased his prattle introduced herself as Sofia. No longer nameless, then. 'Nice to meet you, Sofia,' Raymond said fairly congenially, at least by his standards, which might appear to others to be fairly refined thanks to the volume his voice lacked. 'Do forgive me for not introducing myself as readily as you have. My identity is valuable knowledge to... a few people.' Technically true, if "a few" meant the majority of governments around the world, the US in particular. Still, if a government was considered a person... it wasn't, if he recalled, but he could pretend it was, and that made things a lot easier for him in this particular case.
@Lucidnonsense No, no, and no. Sapient beings have the capacity to use magic actively as described above, and over the course of Earth's history, a very, VERY few beings could utilise it passively, e.g. dragons, but in the modern day, the only beings with that sort of passive magic are Draconids, who have acquired dragon DNA themselves, and who are more likely to be mages regardless. And, well... you could channel a fairly large amount of magic through an animal and probably destroy their brain and maybe their entire body in the process, but why would you? There's no particular benefit to it, since you probably have to be there to channel it through them anyway, and could just as readily blow the target up.

@Kafka Komedy Sounds good to me.

Oh, and just in case this wasn't made clear in the OP: the Ordo Obscurum that was keeping magic secret no longer exists, having disbanded when magic was revealed to the world. Unless somebody happens to have an interesting idea for working with a remnant of the group or something, it's not going to be a major part of the RP. Just so everybody knows. I think it was pointed out well enough, but whatever.
@Ghost Queen Uh, yeah, that ought to be fine. The snout would probably be more like an actual crocodile's or alligator's, but yes.
@Ghost Queen John and I discussed this, and if you're talking about having things like catgirls and other Little Bit Beastly characters... well, let me put it this way: chimeras aren't exactly "oh look at me I am soooo hot now because I'm part animal" entities. Mutating one's DNA with animal DNA is going to make you look like a humanoid animal, including your head. A realistic dog head on a roughly humanoid body isn't my idea of an attractive person, though for beings that themselves have been modified with animal DNA, opinions may differ. Indeed, the more types of animal go into mutating yourself, the less human you're going to look and potentially act; beyond three distinct animals, there's a good chance that your sapience will cease to be, and that your physical form will just be... a mess. Since the human DNA gets drowned out by the other DNA, and all.
