I'm cooler than you
Bio
Just a small, fragile birdboy with a huge beak. I used to be Manapool, but we don't talk about those days. I have been here a while if you couldn't tell.
In all honesty, I am 25 and in a committed relationship outside of roleplay. I work as a cook who works nights. I'm a big fan of seeing people's food they make and learning about new foods if you ever want to share. I enjoy tabletop games, card games, and video games as well as reading comics in my spare time. Your typical nerd, you might even find me at conventions!
Most of the time I stick to Superhero groups and Play by post D&D here. I have admittedly begun taking far fewer rps. I prefer Fantasy and Superheroes as a genre but I find myself more and more interested in interested in Sci-fi settings too! My main fandoms are Fallout, Kenshi, and Marvel but I have a lot of niche interests like Hylics, Neopets, and Monster High. Do you have a strange fandom you want to rp? I am the kind to at least take a look at the source material!
These days I am closer to a low to mid Casual roleplayer. I want at least a paragraph from replies and don't mind dipping lower than casual if it fits the flow better. I am capable of writing decent long posts but expect me to take eons to reply. I also must warn you that I tend to lose a lot of steam in the winter months.
Description: Dermont stands at a solid six feet (183cm) and a hefty 254lbs (113kg). He is a somewhat husky young man with a paunchy gut but with an otherwise strong build, with visible muscle on his arms and legs.
His skin is pale and pocked with the occasional pimple. His hair is an auburn brown and reaches just past his shoulders. His eyes are brown and somewhat beady. His face is angular with a strong jawline, which is kept well-shaven. Unlike the rest of his body.
Age 22 | Gender: Male | Occupation unemployed nerd
Personality:
A down-to-earth young man, Dermont is generally speaking soft-spoken and shy. He thinks very little of himself, and it shows in his personality: timid around others, humble and patient in the face of adversity. He would much rather endure his issues rather than face them. He asks very little of others, which many might see as selfless, but in truth, it all goes back to his lack of confidence. He sees others as simply more important and more likely to do something with their lives. In his eyes, he is just an unemployed nobody nerd without a care in the world.
While he might be a bit rough around the edges, mostly lacking etiquette and tact, Dermont is otherwise a very kind person. He is patient with people and slow to anger, and empathetic to even those who seem actively evil. Despite putting himself into danger, he is shockingly light-hearted about things. He uses comedy as a defense mechanism and a way to cut the tension. Quips are a particular favorite of his.
Background:
A kid who grew up bullied for his name, unnoticed for his looks, and generally a complete nobody all his life. With the real world being so harsh, he turned to the fantastical, enjoying reading and movies while other kids played outside. During his first year of college, he saw a flyer for a LARP group and eagerly joined. There, he met his only true friend, a man in his late thirties who began teaching him how to play a 'Warrior'. Strange as it was, LARP became Dermont's favorite thing, and so he threw himself into the hobby. He began reading old sword-fighting manuscripts, practicing daily, and demolishing the competition.
It was during a huge LARPing event that his life changed drastically. While scouting deep into the woods to try to find a way to flank the opponents in tomorrow's 'battle', Dermont stumbled upon an enchanted grove. Sitting on a bizarre stone altar was a glowing sword. Mistaking it for the 'loot' scattered across the area, Dermont moved closer to inspect the weapon. When he touched it, the weapon spoke to him, proclaiming that Dermont was one of the greatest swordsmen of the time and the only one with a heart pure enough to be worthy. Dermont accepted the responsibility and so he was clad in new armor.
At first, Dermont was eager to accept his new weapon. He showed it to his fellow LARPers and to his surprise the weapon seemed pleased by them. These were the warriors who had trained him, and it gave thanks. Their time in the game together quickly showed Dermont that the sword meant business. When the orc cosplayers showed up it acted as though he should slaughter his friends, struggling to understand that this was all ficticous.
Once he brought the sword home, the shock hit Nothung. Dermont was content to lounge in his family home, eating pizza and watching reruns. Instead Nothung gave him an ultimatum. Do as he says or be rid of it's divine power. Dermont was put on an intensive training regiment, but his constant junk food consumption and years of doughiness did not diminish in mere months. Eventually he was instead told to go to Paragon city, expected to join the ranks. As eager as Dermont was, he had to admit that he did not feel ready. He was once again told that it was either this, or lose the sword entirely.
His family tried to stop him, but once Dermont showed them the true power of his sword, they relented. It was his responsibility to wield this great power. Dermont was an adult now, and they could not stop him from making this decision, despite how sad it made them.
Civilian Skills:
Nerdy encyclopedia: If there is a hero or villain who managed to reach stardom or infamy then chances are, Dermont knows about them
----- Hero Info -----
Valiant
Origin magical | Archetype Tanker| Level 1 | Group MAGI
Superpowers:
Primary Power: Holy Arsenal: Nothung the Dragonslayer, a magical and ancient source of power. It is a sentient weapon imbued with a purely good essence. Though its personality may have become jaded it's powers are virtually the same. Grant a user with a set of armor to defend them and a sword that can slice the flesh of the infernal. In time more items may be granted to him by MAGI, or perhaps by his weapon itself.
Secondary Power: LARP Skillz: Dermont has no real powers. What he lacks in superpowers, he makes up for with raw experience. He has spent years dodging lightning bolts and arrows, fighting off swarms of sword-wielding knaves as flail-swinging ogres. THey may not have been real but they prepared him for his time in the big show!
Weakness: Worthy of the weapon: Only those deemed worthy by Nothung may use its abilities; to anyone else, it is a regular sword. Should Dermont not be pure of heart or somehow become unworthy as a warrior, he will not be able to use it. Nothung, the sword that grants his power, requires its hero to stand tall against adversity and put the destruction of evil before anything. It expects Dermont to prioritize culling evil over saving lives and to sacrifice himself if necessary. It does not allow its wielder even to entertain thoughts deemed 'impure' either.
-The weapon makes the man: Without his magical tools, Dermont is practically defenseless. He's not a particularly strong human either. Dermont knows this, and so he ties his worth as a hero directly to his weaponry.
-Starstruck: Dermont grew up hearing about these heroes/villains all the time, they are like celebrities to him, and sometimes, when dealing with a big threat, he can't help but geek out. This can be an issue when dealing with dangerous foes, especially as he may still want their autograph.
-Just a human: No super strength, no amazing powers, no predetermined destiny or lineage of heroes. Dermont is your everyday dork, and he breaks easily. Physically or mentally.
Supplementary Powers:
N/A
Name: Holy beam Type: Active Rank: ★ Range: Ranged Description: From the tip of his sword, a beam of concentrated light blasts from his sword. This beam deals more damage to a foe based on the darkness in their heart. To a common thug, it might just feel like a punch. To a hardened merc it may feel like a sledgehammer. To a Demon, it may feel like a gunshot. --- Name: Absorbing sheild Type: Active Rank: ★ Range: Melee Description: The shield used by Valiant has the capacity to absorb certain elemental attacks and release them back at their foes. Electrical, purely magical, fire, and ice-based attacks that are successfully blocked can instead be absorbed to blast out later. Only one attack can be absorbed at a time, and only so much energy can be absorbed at once. --- Name: Sanctuary Type: Passive Rank: ★ Range: Melee Description: Valiant's body is cloaked in the magic of Nothung and the armor it creates. This helps alleviate damage from most mundane means. It is by no means a surefire way to save the vessel but most blades fail to cut through his armor. The magic helps give some minor protection from magical attacks. In similar fashion, it just slightly diminishes the damage dealt.
Hey, saw your guys' rp and it looks really cool. I would love to join you if you would have me. Of course, there is no pressure!
Archetype: Evil Genius/Villian Name: Indrid Cold Alias: King Cold/Dr. Cold Age: 46 Powers/Skills: Mental Resistance: A mix of his madness and sheer willpower makes it increasingly hard to use mental attacks on Indrid. King Cold easily ignores illusions and hallucinations, and attempts to mind control him or read his mind are exceptionally hard. Additionally, psychic attacks do far less damage to him than to others.
Super Genius: Infallible recall, vast knowledge of all forms, a high IQ, and an inhuman ingenuity make Indrid a genius. Couple this with his scientific and academic pursuits, his knack for inventing, and his general ability to predict others' moves, and he is, simply put, very smart
Weaknesses:
Fragile Ego: Indrid thinks of himself as an infallible genius, and when he gets knocked down a peg, he feels exceptionally hurt. He is so easy to get so furious, embarrassed, or sad that it affects his thinking and fighting. This is also the most likely reason he flees as his feelings get hurt far too easily for a conniving villain. Witty remarks are a sure-fire way to get him to turn his attention to you, logic be damned.
Human: Indrid has no powers or additional durability. He isn't even strong for a human; he's rather weak, and someone with superpowers can easily pummel or kill him in a straightforward brawl. This doesn't mean they can't hold their own in a fight inherently, just that they are at a severe disadvantage when in a battle with super-powered foes.
Partial blindness: As an albino, Indrid has trouble seeing, and this can make his aim particularly hit or miss. He can't see too far from himself without his suit, and this makes it easy to sneak up on Indrid.
Suit weaknesses: While Indrids' suit amplifies his strength, endurance, and aim, it has a few glaring weaknesses. Being an electronically powered suit he he can only use it in short bursts, roughly an hour or two. The suit also has a comically boss-fight style weak point, being the battery pack on its back. The use of electrical charges can also short-circuit the machinery and cause the system to shut down.
Trust nobody: Indrid has been shunned by everyone, and so he shuns all those around him. While he does often hire goons and thugs, and has scientists still loyal to him, their loyalty isn't strong. Indrid's propensity for killing or harming his ‘minions’ as he calls them leaves much to be desired when it comes to leadership. Most of those who work for him are just in it for the money or out of fear, and give up fairly quickly. It is also fairly easy to just make Indrid pissed enough to go after his men.
Equipment:
Cryogenic suit: An armored suit that comes with strength enhancers and is made of titanium plates and fabric with steel woven into it. The Suit is thickly insulated and heated, making it a power suit capable of surviving both frigid colds equal to -400 degrees Fahrenheit to heats equal to 2700 degrees Fahrenheit.
Freeze rays: A ray capable of coating any surface in a thick layer of ice as strong as steel. This ice takes hours to thaw in the heat. The gun is powered by cryogenic cells that are created in Indrid's lab but must be reloaded with each fire of the weapon.
Storm Generators: A massive construct about the size of a 3-story building that saps the area of heat and moisture to synthesize various weather phenomena. In a matter of an hour, the creation can change an area from a sunny day to a record-breaking blizzard. A clear sky into a monsoon can reverse the weather just as well. This storm can become as large as 250 miles wide, but requires significantly more power the larger the storm. Furthermore, the more condensed the storm is, the more intense it is.
Personality: Eccentric is a word that describes Indrid best. He's a pragmatic person who seems to have never had qualms about death, seeing it as natural and eventual. A deeply troubled person to the core, Indrid is driven by his inner demons of fear, spite, and the perceived persecutions he observes in his constantly anxious mind. Indrid is aberrantly deranged in a way that makes him the perfect old-school villain. He does these cruel and unjust actions to get the attention and fear of the world, a faux expression of his deepest desire to just be loved. He has twisted a simple desire into a sinister yearning to cause problems and gain infamy, as any form of acknowledgment is enough for him.
Indrid is a very intelligent man, but his fast-paced brain, added with a lack of sleep and pumped full of caffeine, often overcomplicates things or overlooks an obvious flaw. He sees himself as an infallible genius, no matter how many times he fails, always refusing to be aware of his flaws outwardly. Inwardly, he all but flogs himself for the most minute of mistakes and uses his pain to drive him forward. On the rare occasions when Indrid's mind quiets and he is calm, though, Indrid becomes a terrifying machine with contingencies for every problem, ruthless and dropping his act to become a truly effective villain.
All this said, there are still glimpses of humanity in Indrid's icy heart, despite his efforts to snuff it out. He pities the outcast, and for all his callousness about killing people, animals find a sweet spot in his soul. He hates hurting them and keeps many pets that he treats like royalty. Furthermore, he is a madman, but surprisingly easy to negotiate with. He is greedy and desires fame; killing and chaos are merely a means to an end for him.
Appearance:
BRIEF Bio: Indrid's parents were a wild, young couple who had their child in a fling but where far from prepared to take care of their albino child. His earliest memories are of neglect before he was finally taken away and put into foster care. He was bullied at his many homes, in schools, and even considered a freak in normal social interactions. Both from being physically different from others and from being an eccentric outcast. From a young age, Indrid was a tortured soul with a traumatic upbringing.
During Indrid's high school years, he and a science teacher began to bond over Indrid's fascination with chemicals (particularly with liquid nitrogen). They convinced him to take chemistry, and he quickly revealed he was a sort of prodigy, quickly getting into some of the most advanced classes the school had to offer. Unfortunately, this only caused him to be further ostracized, as he was amongst much older students. His genius was finally recognized when members of the Alliance visited his foster home. Seeing his potention a late Mister Amazing put a good word in for him at Liberty College.
Indrid was given a shock when he found that the prestigious college he went to had many minds equally, if not greater than his own. The college proved to be a safe place from bullying, but Indrid was already so convinced the world was out to get him that he shunned his peers. He continued his research in secret through most of his college years, and eventually got a master's degree in cryogenic sciences and a major in Robotics. Both of which he would put into practice almost immediately, creating new designs for more efficient refrigerators, both commercial and for homes. Indrid managed to make a name for himself and wealth beyond his wildest dreams at such a young age but with it came expectations, and Indrid could not bear the eyes on him.
In an attempt to keep the people happy, Indrid did the unthinkable, managing to make a refrigeration system capable of achieving absolute zero. He expected praise and wonder, but instead, the UN agreed that this creation was too dangerous to be about, and Indrid was forced to give the schematics away. It was far from the truth but he saw this as a massive failure, and he felt the world was mocking him. This was when he was contacted by a member of a dangerous villainous organization of the past, remnants of a group defeated by the Alliance. They offered to pay Indrid handsomely for his schematics, which he happily obliged. When their attempts to defeat the Alliance with these devices failed, Indrid was determined to prove his worth, and he created a multitude of other inventions for them: Robotic clones, freeze rays, power suits, snow bombs, etc. None worked and slowly Indrid entrenched himself in a world of criminal activities. Once it was discovered he was in league with the group, he had already prepared for such a thing, escaping from capture with a shocking amount of wealth stowed away to continue his crimes.
Storylines:
The perfect cold brew: Indrid trusts no one to get his coffee just right, and in his pursuit of caffeinated creativity, he has finally mastered the perfect drink for himself. While it seems mundane this perfect start to his day, this perfect amount of caffeine, all culminates in making Indrid unusually dangerous for once. His mind is working perfectly, and he begins hatching a master plan!
His heart grew three times that day: Indrid's skills became invaluable in actually helping the world for once. Once convinced to actually help the heroes for once, he softens up a bit. If he can just get over his fear of betrayal, he might actually turn a new leaf.
Indrid bots: Indrid creates a group of robotic clones of himself, clones that are near-perfect replicas of him. This ends up causing trouble for everyone when they all begin questioning if the others plan to betray them, and infighting between them begins causing trouble in a nearby town.
The first storm: Indrid manages to track down his parents, who are old and changed as people at this point. Unfortunately, Indrid plans to exact revenge on them for even making him. This endangers the entire retirement home that they reside in as well.
For the most part, the references that Geo made were lost on his compatriot. Doc did not react with any recognition to either the game or the movie. However, the Kinnara's over-the-top impression still managed a chuckle out of the otherwise unresponsive healer. More importantly, the shocking speed of those pirate enemies sounded just like these basket-wearing freaks. Their general design sounded much better, though: unique abilities, telegraphed attacks. Perhaps these enemies were only so dangerous for Doc because they had been a lone healer; it only strengthened their resolve that they could win this fight.
Which was all the more reason for Doc to rush into the dungeon. IF they wanted loot and experience, they should look nowhere else. Even a casual player of MMOs would know this was how it worked. The good stuff was locked behind content, not just the mediocre random spawns, especially the ones in the starter location. This game seemed to be lacking in quests and missions, at least so far, but Doc was certain it had to work just like any other game otherwise.
The waterfall was like the perfect, albeit subtle, beacon to new players. The only real landmark in an otherwise underwhelming location. No doubt it was meant to draw players in and give them their first true dungeon encounter. Seeing Geo's reaction to seeing the thing only solidified Doc's opinion. It also made them stop for a moment. On their own, they hadn't basked in it, but here and now, it felt shockingly real. Even the air is filled with a cool mist, enough to lower the temperature.
Once Doc had explained the strategy, they expected some sort of confirmation, maybe a question or a witty remark. It came as a surprise to instead feel a pole prod them in the nose, which Doc instinctively swatted at and grumbled indignantly about. "Hey! What the-"
Geo's words struck true, however, and Doc couldn't help but sigh in exasperation. This was a game after all. There was no reason to get so calculating and stony about it; this was meant to be a way to relax after all. His plan seemed better too, not just running in but picking them off in small batches. A plan not unfamiliar to the healer. "Yeah, yeah, you're right," They said with another thin smile. "Not like we're dealing with murlocs or something"
Doc rubbed their eyes and yawned, something that felt strange to do in a virtual setting, and likely did nothing to rid the tiredness from their real body. "I guess I'm just trying to really speed through this stuff. I got into this game to play with some friends, but, well, they're like way higher level. So I want to catch up as fast as I can." The words came through their yawn at first, but quickly faded into their normal speech pattern.
"Anyway, do you want the honors?" They stated again, motioning to the otherwise unassuming guards. "Dibs on the unarmed one," they stated with a smirk.

Love the post, dude! These characters have a fun dynamic together!
Let me know if you want me to edit my post, make it so our characters fight that earlier group of low-level mobs. Trying to portray that Doc is trying to really bum rush the grinding. The same way you might do in an MMO with a secondary toon, just blazing through the story, etc.
Just a small, fragile birdboy with a huge beak. I used to be Manapool, but we don't talk about those days. I have been here a while if you couldn't tell.
