Alright, I think I can work with that. I’m shooting for someone who’s been hurt considerably by such people, and it toughened her up to the point she’s bristly towards others. Has trust issues and feels a need to do things on her own but won’t admit she’s in over her head because she doesn’t want to show vulnerability. She won’t be a complete ass about it, but she’ll have a chip on her shoulder no less.

She knows how her abilities work and what she can do on a surface level, but there is some nuance to the way her powers work that she isn’t aware of yet and she’ll probably need help fighting that nuance out. As far as she’s concerned, she’s just really good at throwing rocks at people.

She’ll also be 100% new to Xavier’s school. As in, her first day.

People generally don’t like mutants in this world, right? Are there any kind of laws that restrict mutants? Like a law that says they’d have to register with the government for example. I’m thinking my character is gonna try to take after the example of people like the Avengers and try to be a hero, only to be held back because people are afraid and pissed off at mutants, which makes her afraid and pissed off at the world as a result.

The thing I'm going for with Shepard is basically "shifty badass" more or less. She's really good at what she does, but it suddenly stops making sense when she calls some random, unidentifiable individual and then two days later she has a whole file on someone that no one had just to say she "has her methods." Within reason, depending on what Dead lets me work with.
