The announcer reminded everyone that until the top four, each trainer would be permitted a single Pokémon in battle.
Unbeknownst to the heroes, Jessie was with Meowth selling Mellasadads to spectators.
Oops. Do we still have anyone else to have the prelim battle?
Ash had won spot 32, Gladion won spot 45, and a boy named Hau got spot 30 using: Pikachu, Umbreon, and Decidyeue respectively. Kiawe took spot 21 using Turtinator, and a man named "Jimothy", who to the heroes would very clearly be Team Rocket's James in disguise got spot 37 thanks to Marinee. Liam point "Jimothy" out. "Guys, we need to keep our eyes peeled for Jessie."

Based on the numbers picked, order goes:
11: Liam
13: Jen
21: Kiawe
30: Hau
32: Ash Ketchum
33: Veronica
37: Jimothy
38: Chuck

Well, you are not accounting for other CPU trainers such as Gladion. But, also remember that they will be shuffled up every round. (I will reroll pc vs pc matches until the number of trainers is smaller)
The battles soon began. Liam used Bastille where the other three had: Vikavolt, Alolan Raichu, and Kantonian Dugtrio. The Dugtrio took out the Raichu while Bastille defeated Vikavolt, and then beat the Dugtrio with the Ghost-type Z move, granting Liam spot 11 in the finals. It was annouced as a reminder that the 64 contenders would be shuffled up, so Liam would not necesarilly face the challenger in spot 12.
Liam did his training as well. It was soon time for the opening ceremonies which was basically a feast and a group prayer to the Tapus to look over the contestants. The next morning as trainers checked in they were randomly assigned a number, 1-64 with a letter A-D. This was to determine placement in the preliminaries. This would be a series of 64 Battle Royals, the winner of each would move on to the actual tournament. It is also explained that until the Semi-Finals each match would be one-on-one. The Semi-Finals would be two-on-two, and the final would be three-on-three. The winner of the whole thing would face Champion Fetar in a full six-on-six battle. Liam was given the number: 11-A, so He would be in the 11th prelim match.
Slushie was excited when he saw his trainer and happilly ran over to him. Liam beant down and picked up the Alolan viarent to hug him.
Sherlock began to focus his Psychic Powers and teleported himself and the two trainers to where they would meet their friends. Liam thanked Sherlock and he teleported back to Oak's Lab to rest. Liam reentered the Pokémon Center to have his on hand Pokémon Heal before he began the final training for the tournament.
"Why don't we head back to Alola then?" Liam asked as Sherlock teleported to his side.
