I think to sell someone on an interest check, it's really important to seem enthusiastic about your own idea. That means writing more than a single sentence to attract potential players.

Did you know that Dante's inferno is called a divine comedy because things work out for the protagonist? Back in the day, the only two genres were comedy and drama. The only difference was that in a comedy, the protagonist is better off at the end, and a drama is the opposite. So that's why a story about going through hell can still be considered a comedy, even if it's not funny.

Name:
Broken Promise, BP, Boss

Age:
Old enough to know better, too young to care. (that is to say 30's)

Preferred RPs:
I Prefer to make my own, but will occasionally join something if it looks interesting. I'll join just about anything so long as it isn’t overly edgy/sweet, though it's rare for me to do. I don't do 1x1s too often either.

Preferred Roles:
I tend to play adorable characters everyone wants to befriend or proper assholes everyone wants to stay away from. I try not to play moral paragons or prime evils.

RP Conquests:
I've completed quite a few RP's off site, but most of them are on private forums or have simply been lost to the ravages of server crashes. As for stuff here, I'm sure everyone who sees me post in the off topic sections has seen me find an excuse to talk about Danganronpa: Tower of Carnage. It's a project that took over 4 years to complete and I feel pride not only for myself but all the wonderful people who helped make it enjoyable during its run. Re: Zero: The High Council Is technically my first, but it was just something I kind of took over and ended up ending the story after just six months. It finished, but eh...

Last RP I finished was Symphony of Espers which turned out pretty good.

RP's in progress:
For some reason I can't seem to stay away from Ari's magical girl RP, even if I'm not sure why I'm still in it.

As for my own projects, I'm doing Symphony on High to continue the gigachad adventures of the espers in Pax Septimus.

RP Graveyard:
I've been pretty fortunate on this forum. I think I joined one when I first came on the site that didn't really do anything, and there are a few 1x1 things that didn't go anywhere. It's disappointing when an RP ends before it can be finished, but I've come to look at them as learning experiences.

And then there's that london magical girl RP, and that dark magical girl RP. I think I'm done joining magical girl RPs for a while.

Other interests:
Videos
I watch a lot of educational videos on youtube. Usually as research for something I’m writing or purely because a topic interests me. I like channels like Tier Zoo and Daryl Talks Games, and I’ll also watch things like Critical Drinker or Literature Devil to deepen my understanding of story telling. Though I also like memes and jokes, to which I’ll find myself watching stuff like Sseth, but usually find myself surfing through meme videos. I gotta work on that.

Games
I have a rather long history of playing virtually every platformer to come into existence during the indie boom, as well as quite a few other indie games. I’ve played Meatboy, Binding of Issac, Gunvolt, Cuphead, Princess Remedy in a World of Hurt, Classic Metroid, Warcraft 3, Final Fantasy 7,8, and 14, Left 4 Dead, Shantae, Celeste, Danganronpa, God Eater, the list goes on. What I’ve played is kind of all over the place. I don’t play many games these days, I tend to pick things that look interesting and go on a decent steam sale.

Painting Minis
I do this in moderation. Otherwise, it's a pretty expensive hobby to start...

Music
I listen to everything, save most country/rap songs. I have too many favorites to name.

Personality:
Not one to take life or the internet too seriously. Is only serious about writing well and having a good time.

People to Insult:
Dalton is a Dingus.

*Both Murderer and Innocents are killed*

Just Danganronpa Things

"Okay Mr murderer, here's how this is going to work. We're going to make this pen disappear. Or 'des-pair' as I like to say. You will have died before the game actually began, the secret 8th member that always gets the game started. Then I will continue killing on your behalf. This seems to satisfy all conditions. Phuphuphuphu!"

WHAT A TWIIIIIIIST!

I agree, there were many interesting developments here.

Witch cat has an interesting team composition now... or do they?

A Waifu was able to keep Chunk and Sloth away from food. They are easily the hungriest people in this hunger game. She might be more formidable than she looks.

Aaron almost has a voldemort nose.

Wenceslas and Turboman are wearing a Snuggie.

Quite a bit happened.
There is a tactical advantage to letting yourself get beaten though, @Vor. The second time you encounter each other, you get to play the "You won last time, now I win this time" card!

But it's not just you, people have been pretty chill about losing with me too. I think everyone is okay with it, it's just how you lose that really matters. If I'm playing a bruiser, I have no problem being "outsmarted" as an example.

...isn't too fun when you're not seeing half the game.

Well if you're ever so bored that you want to participate, just give me a holler. I can hold the fort if you want to frolic with everyone else, m'kay?

Borr scratched his chin. “You bring up some valid points...”

The world started to feel like a distant place to Keefer. He was starting to lose focus, and could barely make out what his boss was talking about.

“...magnetism is something I was aware of, but surely you can't expect me to...”

It was Cerridwen's words. She knew something wasn't right with Keefer. It must be because her body is still on the Noah, she could gain access to everyone's files with ease. At least that was what he had to assume.

“...We have a mobster problem down here. If they lift a calk gun from the work site they can use it to plant explosives....”

Had she told anyone else? Would she tell anyone else? Well, Keefer suspected that without her avatar, she wouldn't be able to communicate with anyone. Not right away at least. It wouldn't be like Keefer was killing her. It would just be buying himself some time. He looked at the calk gun in his hand.

“...Will you tell Mr Quan you were aware of the problem when the mobsters realize this? I''m not trying to get anyone in trouble here, I'm just concerned... ”

No. That wouldn't be fair. Even if Cerridwen didn't die, a lot of people depended on her. Removing her presence from landing would hold everyone back. People could even die as a result of her disappearance. Why should Cerridwen be without a body when Keefer was the one at fault? Yes, he was the one at fault. He was the useless, unremarkable one. A sincere smile crept across his face as he told himself this. He was a loser, a fake. The words made Keefer's smile grow, despite believing every word.

“...Can I get you anything Doctor Lankerfield? Does that body of your need anything for sustenance?”

Keefer lifted his head up. His expression glowed like the morning sun. “Sir, this dust is kind of agitating my nose. I'm going to go start the next build site up, alright?”

Keefer walked away before Borr could respond. He was tied up listening to Doctor Lankerfield.

When no one was watching, it was much harder to keep that smile up. What was the best course of action? He had the money to go anywhere and do anything. If he acted fast enough, Keefer could escape. But to where? He knew he couldn't make it in the wild. He refused to join the mafia, and landing was still too small to just disappear inside. He needed someone's help. A single glance at his wrist phone. The first contact to pop up was Lenna. She understood the situation best, but Keefer couldn't be a burden to her this time. Tensions between them were just starting to lift. Placing this on her shoulders wasn't a wise choice. He only had one other contact. Keefer wouldn't have even considered calling her, but she was his neighbor. Without thinking about it further, he tapped the call button.

“I'm so weak.”

Calling a celebrity? Really Keefer? One who made a point to lie to him on her way out the door? Perhaps this just showed how desperate the situation was. Keefer waited patiently for her to pick up. It wasn't until the eighth ring that her image came up on screen. Holla was all wet, and she wasn't wearing anything more than a towel. The room she was in looked really dark too. He smiled nervously.

“Hi Keefie!” Holla was a cheerful as ever.

Keefer blinked. “Is now a bad time?”

She giggled. “I was taking a shower. The lights are off because I'm hiding in the closet. My manager doesn't like me answering the phone.”

“Well, did you want to get dressed first?”

“Nah.” Holla waved her hand dismissively. “It's like my bra suddenly shrank two sizes. Or did my 'heart' grow three sizes when you called?” She winked. “So what's up?”

This was starting to feel like a waist of time. But he had already crossed the point of no return.“I... am in trouble.”

Holla raised an eyebrow. “Trouble?”

Keefer nodded. “I have a secret, and I think someone discovered it.”

“You're being kind of vague.”

“I know.” Keefer rubbed his eyes. “But you never know who could be listening in.”

“Alright.” Holla looked at something off screen. “Who knows your secret?”

“Doctor Cerridwen Lankerfield.”

“Oh...” Holla's face scrunched up like she had just been punched. “Okay, what's the worse thing that could happen to you?”

“I could be put on trial and executed.”

“...Did you hurt anyone, Keefer?”

“No!”

“Okay, just calm down!” Holla took some deep cleansing breaths with Keefer before continuing. “Alright, what makes you think she knows your secret?”

“She said something.”

“You have to tell me exactly what was said or I can't help you.”

“She whispered 'I'm guessing the reverse engineering on the medical pod have treated you well.' to me.”

“So there's something different about you?”

Keefer remained silent.

“...Okay. I don't know everything Keefie, but I don't think you have anything to worry about... yet.”

“Yet!?”

“Please relax.” Holla sighed. “Alright, if the secret she knew was that bad, she'd have done something by now. I think Miss Lankerfield wants something from you.”

“You think?”

“Are you a valley girl or something? Is everything a question with you? Like, I didn't know valley boys existed?”

Keefer groaned. “This really isn't the time to joke.”

“This is totally the time to joke! She doesn't want to hurt you. Black mail? Maybe. Probably. But better that then a trial and execution.”

“What should I do?”

“Well...” Holla lifted a finger to her cheek. “I think you should confirm what she knows, and then arrange to meet her. If you cooperate with her things will go smoothly for you both.”

“I just don't know what she could possibly want.”

“Well, she might want someone to help her come down to landing early. Or she might have... other needs.”

Keefer remained silent.

“I'm just sayin' okay? Don't screw it up! You are one babe away from a harem. Between me and Lenna-”

“That's my sister you're talking about!”

“Oh right.” Lenna gave Keefer a sideways glance. “Speaking of which, why didn't you talk to Lenna about this? You don't think... Me and you are...”

“No, I'm aware of that.” Keefer let out a tired sigh. “She's busy and... probably not ready for it.”

Holla didn't respond right away. “...You should really tell her about this.” She raised her arms to hug herself and looked away from the screen. “Families fall apart when they keep secrets from each other. I'm sure you could tell her more about it and get a better solution.” Holla grabbed a handful of her wet hair and threw it over her other shoulder. “Anyway, my manager is probably wondering why I'm not done yet. I should hang up now. See you later.” And with that, the transmission ended.

Keefer was glad he called Holla. She was a little strange, but he always seemed to take something away with his talks with her. Well, so far anyway. But she was right, this was something he should talk to his sister about. In the meantime though, there was no reason to panic. He had faith Holla was right. Cerridwen needed something. She had something on Keefer, and now she expected him to do her bidding. But wouldn't Keefer be happy to help her anyway? A brilliant mind that gave humanity so much? Helping her would be like saving a princess from peril. With renewed determination, he headed towards the next job site.

@NuttsnBolts
I didn't read through the whole thread but still wanted to gripe about something that bothers me sometimes in fights...

This is why when a fight arises, I always have a nice discussion about what should happen with the other person. usually in Pms or over skype. I haven't ever needed to take it to a GM.

Honestly, I've always seen the suggestion to use the PM section in the first post. It is more interesting to watch interactions without it, as a spectator anyway.

Having a friend and/or selectively sharing information is just a very powerful tool. I also find that deciding how many friends you want to have is part of the strategy. You have more control with more friends, But it's easier to harbor a killer in later rounds. There are all kinds of games you can play with this strategy.
I had a pretty good idea it was Luna since the end of the first round. They were just working a little too hard to appear innocent. also, anyone who votes off spider man is pretty darn suspicious.

Admittedly if I was witch cat, I probably would have voted Pudding in the last round. The murderer has no reason to vote first. If pudding actually had voted off the person who voted first, the only way to ensure victory would have been if pudding was the murderer. *shrugs* anyway...

Good show scrubs!

(I puke in my mouth every time I use a screen cap from DR 3)

So without further ado, let's move on to...

THE META

You guys are aware there's a meta right?

Well there is. and it is GLORIOUS! It turns this game of statistics into one of strategy, observation, and deception. But enough flair, let's start the class.

FIRST... HOW TO WIN

You win by finding and executing the murderer. Or werewolf, in some instances. In order to do that, you need to work together with your fellow innocent to overpower the killer. Yes, in a game about trust, you need to pick the correct friends. Remember my statistics on the other page?

The killer has about a 14% chance of getting punished the first round (1 out of 7 outcomes)

The second round the killer has a 20% chance of getting punished. (1 out of 5 outcomes) If we look at their chances of being punished both rounds, it's closer to 31% (11 out of 35 outcomes)

The third round the killer has a 25% chance of getting punished in the final round. This has to do with how things are run. barring that and going by pure statistics (33%, 1 out of 3), there is just under a 46% chance the killer will be punished. (37 out of 85 outcomes)
BrokenPromise

Well, if you're going to have such a hard time picking the killer the first round... why not use the first round to pick some friends?

You have a 1 out of 6 chance of picking the killer (provided you AREN'T the killer obviously) as a friend. If you both survive until the third round, you have a 5 out of 6 chance of winning just by voting for the person that isn't your friend. That's a little bit better than 25% isn't it?

Now you're going to ask me how to prevent the killer from killing your friend off. Because they see EVERYTHING you say? RIGHT?

WRONG!

The master thread is used for voting, talking to everyone, and glorious shitposting shenanigans. You should most certainly take things to PM that you don't want everyone to hear. In fact, I dare say that most if not ALL of your player interactions should happen in Pms.

GOALS AND GAME FLOW

I'm not going to go into every strategy and random factoid. You guys can figure that all out on your own. I'm just going to explain what everyone should be doing as the rounds progress.

Round 1

This is not the throwaway round everyone thinks it is. This round is an opportune time to make friends. Your chances of recruiting the killer to your cause increases in the later rounds. If you decide to recruit 2 friends, you have a 33% chance of harboring the killer. Second round 2 friends is 50%, so watch that...

Of course, the killer should be trying to make friends as well. Friends don't vote on other friends, right?

Round 2

Now the second round is here. Things are more interesting now because the killer is killing people to cause distrust among friends or simply isolate individuals. This is not an ideal round for recruiting a lot of people to your friend circle, but if you're alone you have a 25% chance of picking the killer as a friend. The innocent are working with clues, and the murderer is trying to deflect blame onto others.

Round 3

This is actually the least important round in the meta, as things have already been decided. The murderer either has a trusting friend, or the innocents are both together. Even in the event that everyone is separated, they usually have the tools to make a choice at this point. It all boils down to who's more trustworthy.

TL;DR:

-Work as a team, not as individuals

-Converse via pm with your team, potential team mates, victims, and potential killers to decide votes, set up traps, and spread misinformation.

Temptation is to give everyone tips and tricks, but I think I'll just hang back and see what you guys manage to come up with on your own. wouldn't want to spoon feed you everything. that's all for now.

I think the reason why light novels have simpler words isn't for a "lighter story," but because the target audience has a more limited vocabulary. Just like most YALIT actually. Harry Potter is actually a really good example of this. Sure, you'll have books by Michael Crichton, father of modern storytelling, that can be understood by most despite being masterpieces. But it's actually a requirement for light novels.

And a little more trivia, a visual novel without player interaction is called a kinetic novel.
I'm currently reading a fan translation of a light novel (Danganronpa Zero, if you couldn't guess, hue hue.)

Descriptions are short, and the dialog acts as a description at times. Kind of like how anime characters will explain what they see. Example:

"This table is so big, and there's even a tablecloth on it!"

It can be more creative than that, but you get the idea.

Most of your narration is how characters are positioned and what they are doing. You don't have long, detailed descriptions of how things look most of the time. The characters themselves are barely described, and instead rely on pictures if I'm not mistaken.

I've also read "All You Need is Kill", which is another translated work from japan. This was a fully fledged novel, and the characters didn't talk like anime characters despite having a gritty anime character on the cover. I do think we have things like light novels here in america, we just don't call them light novels. They really don't read that much differently than some (emphisis, SOME) young adult novels.
