I think to sell someone on an interest check, it's really important to seem enthusiastic about your own idea. That means writing more than a single sentence to attract potential players.

Did you know that Dante's inferno is called a divine comedy because things work out for the protagonist? Back in the day, the only two genres were comedy and drama. The only difference was that in a comedy, the protagonist is better off at the end, and a drama is the opposite. So that's why a story about going through hell can still be considered a comedy, even if it's not funny.

Name:
Broken Promise, BP, Boss

Age:
Old enough to know better, too young to care. (that is to say 30's)

Preferred RPs:
I Prefer to make my own, but will occasionally join something if it looks interesting. I'll join just about anything so long as it isn’t overly edgy/sweet, though it's rare for me to do. I don't do 1x1s too often either.

Preferred Roles:
I tend to play adorable characters everyone wants to befriend or proper assholes everyone wants to stay away from. I try not to play moral paragons or prime evils.

RP Conquests:
I've completed quite a few RP's off site, but most of them are on private forums or have simply been lost to the ravages of server crashes. As for stuff here, I'm sure everyone who sees me post in the off topic sections has seen me find an excuse to talk about Danganronpa: Tower of Carnage. It's a project that took over 4 years to complete and I feel pride not only for myself but all the wonderful people who helped make it enjoyable during its run. Re: Zero: The High Council Is technically my first, but it was just something I kind of took over and ended up ending the story after just six months. It finished, but eh...

Last RP I finished was Symphony of Espers which turned out pretty good.

RP's in progress:
For some reason I can't seem to stay away from Ari's magical girl RP, even if I'm not sure why I'm still in it.

As for my own projects, I'm doing Symphony on High to continue the gigachad adventures of the espers in Pax Septimus.

RP Graveyard:
I've been pretty fortunate on this forum. I think I joined one when I first came on the site that didn't really do anything, and there are a few 1x1 things that didn't go anywhere. It's disappointing when an RP ends before it can be finished, but I've come to look at them as learning experiences.

And then there's that london magical girl RP, and that dark magical girl RP. I think I'm done joining magical girl RPs for a while.

Other interests:
Videos
I watch a lot of educational videos on youtube. Usually as research for something I’m writing or purely because a topic interests me. I like channels like Tier Zoo and Daryl Talks Games, and I’ll also watch things like Critical Drinker or Literature Devil to deepen my understanding of story telling. Though I also like memes and jokes, to which I’ll find myself watching stuff like Sseth, but usually find myself surfing through meme videos. I gotta work on that.

Games
I have a rather long history of playing virtually every platformer to come into existence during the indie boom, as well as quite a few other indie games. I’ve played Meatboy, Binding of Issac, Gunvolt, Cuphead, Princess Remedy in a World of Hurt, Classic Metroid, Warcraft 3, Final Fantasy 7,8, and 14, Left 4 Dead, Shantae, Celeste, Danganronpa, God Eater, the list goes on. What I’ve played is kind of all over the place. I don’t play many games these days, I tend to pick things that look interesting and go on a decent steam sale.

Painting Minis
I do this in moderation. Otherwise, it's a pretty expensive hobby to start...

Music
I listen to everything, save most country/rap songs. I have too many favorites to name.

Personality:
Not one to take life or the internet too seriously. Is only serious about writing well and having a good time.

People to Insult:
Dalton is a Dingus.

”It was tiny abduction mirrors!”

— Chloe Irving

Chloe groaned. ”Another pointless distraction." Fortunately, Asengav’s weakness had been well documented by the Mint. ”Very well, have the troops shatter every mirror they can find in Penrose. Scatter the fragments as best you can." Then Chloe winced.

Takes one to know one: Active.

”And… maybe light some candles too. That should weaken whatever this is."

”By Nagash’s will it shall be done!“

”Oh!" Chloe raised a finger. ”Aside from the mirrors, do as little damage as possible. This isn’t an excuse to enslave the local populace."

”Of course…“

If the people of Penrose were scared before, they would be downright terrified when the six foot tall bone men started entering stores. One entered a public restroom and brought the pommel of his sword to every mirror over the sink. Many more in the housing district forced their way into homes. The fortunate ones left their doors unlocked, and the skeletons raided every vanity they could find. The less fortunate ones locked their doors, and the skeletons forced the doors open. Often shattering a window or pulling the doorknobs until they gave way. The fragments were scattered on the streets for the lord of mirrors to witness.

More Ossiarch soldiers raided furniture stores. But rather than departing with any furniture, they would take all the candles they could carry and leave. Once outside, they would be set alight. Many of the boney soldiers melted the bottom of the candles just enough to stick them to their bodies, and walked about town with melting candles on their heads and shoulders.

As amusing as the carnage was to Chloe, she was aware that something had to be done to keep order. So several Bone Tithe Shriekers appeared at the highest points of the city, and Chloe channeled her voice through them like she had earlier.

”Hewow eveweyone!" Came Chloe’s sickeningly sweet voice. ”Some fawty wirwing has been discovuwured in uwu house! So nowo we gunta fix it. Pwease don’t be awarmed!"

This was going to end up being expensive for Mint, but her last order from Al was to hold the fort.

“Time to swing my meat around!”

“...That’s enough social media for one day.”

— Su Fang & Mika Sarraf

Mika was, understandably, very excited to rush into the next mirror and earn her keep as a princess. But before she could get very far, the queen had already broken everyone's mind control. She looked back at Su, who shrugged her shoulders, and then Mika lowered her ears.

Maybe another opportunity would reveal itself later… or if any of these people wanted to fight. But Mika didn’t really want to beat any of them up. They looked kinda cool. And that spider one looked sorta familiar for some reason…

"Not in the mood…"

— Black Gate

Michi was among those coming to the cafeteria, not late nor early. She did not have a lunch box with her, at least, not one that was visible. She did have a really cute black handbag with a studded clasp that looked like a goat. Otherwise, she looked exactly like she had earlier. Michi was easy to pick out because she didn’t wear a school uniform. Likely because she wasn’t a student.

She walked past the cafeteria counter, but did not stop for a meal. Other than flood the air around her with a desire to destroy, one far stronger than any time Haruna had met her previously, she did little else. In fact, she did not seem to spot Haruna as she passed by. Her boots made a distinct click with every step, and it could be heard even in the cafeteria.

She continued to not look at anyone. Rather than avoidance, it felt more like apathy. It wasn’t until she got to Kiyo’s table that she stopped moving. Michi stood there like a statue, not making any sudden movements. Then, as if her mind caught up to her, she turned her head to what would have been Suki’s seat. She plopped down in it and set her bag on the table, setting up a wall between herself and Kiyo.

"How irritating." Michi looked out at the cafeteria crowd. "It takes so long for anything to happen. And then once it happens, it’s over so fast." She could have been talking to anyone. At least, she wasn’t looking at Kiyo if she had meant to address her. Though there was no doubt that this next line was for Kiyo.

"Do you suppose we’ll ever be able to trust anyone?"

"Where is the cute girl that wants to be my friend?"

— Suki Oyama

While scanning the room, Suki was able to pick up Haruna. Was this it? Had her previous assumption been wrong? She eyed the book bag with great interest, but nothing came of it. She did have to wonder how much Haruna knew even if she wasn’t directly involved. Did she know Suki was thinking about her right now? Her heart beat faster.

"Ah? Ahahahahaha!" Suki waved her hand. "Trouble? No no, this is, um, the opposite of trouble. Someone wants to meet meeeeee!" She was bouncing on her heels. "I guess I’m just, a little, um, nervous? No, excited!" She bit her lower lip and peered around the room, then looked back at Haruna. "I’m so glad I washed my hair today!" She continued to giggle through her sharpened teeth.

On Suki’s next scan of the cafeteria, she noticed Tsubomi talking to a random girl. It had to be the bad Tsubomi, because she seemed too agitated to be the good Tsubomi. And no, Suki would not be calling good Tsubomi Zassou. If anyone was a weed, it was that bitch.

Why did Bad Tsubomi have control over the body?

As if to answer that question, Suki was drawn to Acid Drop’s sudden appearance. She shook her head and looked again.

"H-huh?!"

Meanwhile, while Roche’s eyes scanned the room, she eventually locked eyes with someone standing just a few inches in front of her.

"Boo!"

"Hello, I’ll have a Wicfries and a big Wic and a sprite with my happy meal, and it better come with a damn toy!"

— Willow

"Hmm, you don’t seem that scared." Willow settled down at the other side of the table. "Man, today has been horrible! I’ve been able to sleep through all my classes and nobody noticed I was missing! Then I gave no less than five wedgies and suffered no repercussions for any of them! It’s so horrible being this unnoticed by everyone!" She waved her hand in front of Roche’s face. "You notice me though, don’t you, senpai?" After settling into her seat, she looked in Haruna and Suki’s direction. "I noticed you were looking at your old flame. At least you’d better be! You want me to see if I can split them up? If you want a wing man, I think I can peel Haruna away long enough for you to talk to Suki. She looks like she’d say yes to just about anything today."

After hearing the girl’s rebuttal, Finn sighed, put on a wistful smile, and shook his head. "I’ve spoken with your father. I’ve seen how the servants talk about you. I’ve seen how your mother talks to them." He looked out the window. "But I think… They are just frustrated." He rested a hand on his hip. "But look. They still pay for your medication, have tutors spend time with you, I don’t think they want you to languish. They clearly care about you, even if they aren’t gentle about it." He pinched the bridge of his nose. "I’ve had some incredible people in my life. People who were better than me in every way. Everyone put their hopes and dreams on their shoulders. I honestly felt a little envious of them, but I couldn’t bring myself to dislike them. And then…" Finn trailed off. After rubbing the back of his head, he sighed. "I’m sorry, I don’t really know what you’re going through. What I’m trying to say is that you have a future. Even if it’s not becoming some heir, which I think is still in the cards, you could easily become a programmer or a scientist if you keep applying yourself." With a nod, he took a step closer to the door. "You did really good today."

"The fuck are you talking about, Kiyo?"

— Black Gate

While Kiyo took the time to gather her thoughts (brood), Michi looked over her shoulder at the gang of students behind them. They almost seemed lost by the question Haruna posed, some of them even looking at each other for an answer.

"The classes are staggered and weird today." One of them finally said.

"Yea!" Another one added. "I have no idea what’s going on. But apparently our classes are starting late. So we took a walk."

"I arrived late, so I’m glad I get to keep my attendance up." Another one giggled.

It did look like some of Haruna’s classmates were here. Though they had been hard to spot with so many students. "We’d better enter the classroom now though, it looks like we’re out of time."

"Well, take this one with you." Michi allowed the blond student to pull away. With that taken care of, she returned her attention to Kiyo for her to give her assessment. The girl raised an eyebrow. "...Right, of course. Never mind then. We’ll talk again during lunch, I’d like to discuss something with the club." She then walked past Kiyo further down the hall, and the students behind her started to funnel into the classrooms in her wake.

Suki was still in view. Kiyo would have to catch up if she didn’t want to miss the slide show.

Hahahahahahha!

Meanwhile,Tsubomi had been run down a second time. Though there was a squad of students to help the two of them to their feet.

"Might wanna get your breaks checked out." One of them joked. Then everyone took a seat.

Shortly afterwards, everyone else would funnel in after her. They didn’t have to remain seated long before a woman entered the room. She clearly wasn’t the typical teacher, as she was a foreigner. One with vibrant red hair. She grabbed a piece of chalk and wrote her name on the board at the front of the class.

"Hello, my name is Regina Grace. Today we’re going to practice English." She smiled.

"Glad to hear it!" Finn slapped his hands together. "Well, let’s not delay now! Let’s see what you can do with the first question…"

"What are you even talking about? Why would it be additive or multiplicative if it was binary?" The feline chuckled, and it seemed to shake the room. "What am I, little weed? I’m you. For a time, Tsubomi was merely an interface between you and your ’friends.’ The mascot is an interface between the two of us as well. If you know so little about me, you cannot understand yourself very well." It turned its head until it was upside down. "But if you must know-"

The screen blipped out, and then filled with yellow. The word "PET" was displayed on the screen in big bold letters. It flashed on screen three times, then changed to a crude animation of a hand stroking a cat’s back, then to an emoticon.

^-^

The cat would say nothing else, and the screen would never show the cheshire cat again.

A few hours later…

Finn had helped Norika with a few problems, then stuck around to watch her solve the next two on her own. After that, he felt confident enough in her abilities that he excused himself from the room. He took his hazmat suit and vanished for a time. Once she was done, it was a bit before he returned. When he did, he took a moment to go over her work.

"Very good, and also what I expected!" He tapped her work with his pen. "You’re going to be a natural at linear algebra. Everything just builds off of itself. If you can get this, you can get calculus, and then you can understand machine learning algorithms and all of the most advanced tech in the world. I think your parents are going to be impressed by your results." He looked over her work one last time, bit his lower lip, and placed it back on her desk. "I Imagine your parents must want to put you in a college as soon as possible. Do you know what you want to study?"

"Is today not as good as I expected it to be?"

— Suki Oyama

It felt a little cold to not even have Haruna wave goodbye after their brief greeting, but it didn’t really matter. In fact, it was a good thing. If she had been the person who wrote that letter, it would have been more than a little weird. Not that being weird was a problem. Well, it was, actually. It was bad when Suki was weird, but when other people were weird it was probably okay. Yes, she decided that sounded good. But whoever wrote that would have at least acknowledged her with their eyes, right?

Suki decided it didn’t matter. What mattered was that it was lunch time now.

For once, Suki did not rush to the club’s table and instead stood by the cafeteria counter. She was not expecting her admirer to go there, which was precisely why she positioned herself that way. She looked out away from the counter and watched everyone funnel in. There were many students coming into the cafeteria, but none of them had a blue ribbon. Sometimes she’d catch someone wearing a blue ribbon out in the crowd, only for them to seat themselves, open their bento box or lunch pail, and eat with chopsticks. There was one foreign student that ate with a plastic fork, but it wasn’t silver. She wasn’t the one.

It had to be someone she knew, she reminded herself. She didn’t really talk to anyone outside the club, so who was it going to be?

"Guys this is getting kind of weird now."

— ΣΔΓΠΦ

ΣΔΓΠΦ had been waiting for a moment such as this.

She had no idea what MDP’s mana reserves were like, but it would be hard to get anything through such a devastating attack, and ΣΔΓΠΦ wanted to ensure that MDP’s super special attack had the best chance it could to land. Realistically it would, because the only magical girl stronger than MDP was probably Penny or Rachel. But who would stop to think in a land of madness?

ΣΔΓΠΦ released MDP and allowed her gravity magic to propel her further and beyond MDP. Once she soared out of MDP’s protective barrier, she shifted her focus from gaining acceleration to redirecting the incoming blades. Swords were pulled into her orbit, which should have protected her from more incoming swords. As powerful as gravity manipulation was, there was only so much room for the metal blades. Soon ΣΔΓΠΦ was covered in scales of steel, and became too heavy to fly properly. Her ability to control her magic was overwhelmed, and the sphere of metal she was trapped in.

The mass of steel slammed into the castle wall before falling to the ground in a giant metal pile.

Dull laughter escaped the pile, and blood oozed out onto the blades.

"Is it ever not tiny abduction mirrors in Penrose?"

— Chloe Irving

The populace being bothered by her army was beneath her desire to care. So long as her skeletal army wasn’t killing them, there was nothing to be concerned about. What did catch her notice was that all the warm colors seemed to be leaving Penrose. Taking their place was the air, which seemed to glisten like a mirror catching moonlight on a starless night.

"Now what is it?"

Chloe stopped and looked at the sky. With her troops surrounding her, she opened her third eye and tried to discern what was going on.

"Can we get land and servants too, mommy!"

"We already have a flying space dragon, and my GF is a maid. I’m kinda set."

— Su Fang & Mika Sarraf

It looked like the queen was finishing up, which meant that this talk was coming to an end. "Just think about it, ‘Alice.’ You’re free now, or you were until she showed up. How important is your revenge?"

There wouldn’t be time to hear a response. As the queen droned on her decrees, Mika hopped and clapped her hands together. "Mom and I will have to get the next one!"

"That’s… Well, I wouldn’t mind. I’m a little old to be a princess, but if you’d like, Mika." It wouldn’t be bad to try and get on the queen’s good side.

"I’d love to be a princess!" Mika punched the air over her head.

"Heh." Su faked a smile, then turned to Marrie. Her face grew dark. "How many of these mirrors are there?"
@JFK Being good at the whole writing thing helps, but it’s not the most important bit. There are plenty of RPs that have hooked me despite the GM not being the best writer, just as I am seldom the best writer in any of my successful RPs. You’ll wear many hats as a GM, but your most important attributes will be your “charisma” and ability to adapt. The better you are at handling people and navigating setbacks, the better.

Reputation is an important thing to work on. Participating in other RPs and being a swell player improves your reputation. Players will be more likely to sign up for an RP if they know the GM has a reputation for sticking it out or has a personality/style they like. A GM that frequently flakes out of other projects will be remembered by future players, and possibly avoided. If you join an RP, try to stick with it as long as you can. If it’s not for you or something comes up, let everyone know in that group. There will be no hard feelings that way (probably), and when you host your own RP later, players will remember your courtesy. As a new joiner of the forum, some may see you as a flight risk. But this does not take long to change. Inversely, do not become so focused on your reputation that you stick around players or projects that you don’t like. Reputation has some variance, and different people will look at you in different lights. One group’s “writer with fantastic prose” is another group's “Writer with purple prose.” The basic idea is to not be a jerk and bring your best.

You mustn’t be afraid to talk to the players. The glue that holds an RP group together isn’t just the IC but the OOC as well. Don’t be afraid to comment on posts. People like to know their posts are being read, and even a single sentence response can mean the world to them. It doesn’t have to be a complement, in fact, it would be better if you just focused on the content of the post itself. Wonder out loud if two characters are going to meet up, or comment on how underhanded one character’s dirty trick was.

Try not to rely on any one player too much. Regardless of how much you like their character or feel they are reliable, you should always have a plan B if the unthinkable happens. I have seen RPs grind to a halt and die because the GM thought they would have their favorite players around forever. Life can be unexpected sometimes, but the show must go on. It’s one thing to have a side plot that involves one character drying up, but the RP itself should never totally rely on one player. As the GM, you are allowed to take control of absent characters.

Don’t take things too seriously. Nobody else is. You may love the RP and put a lot of sweat into getting the systems and plot just right, but it’s rare your efforts will be fully appreciated. Your players care more about how you make them feel than how good your systems or plot twists are.

On the topic of systems, be aware of what you’re implementing. The more rules you add to a game the less literary that game becomes. The ronin on a revenge quest will pawn his fallen master’s sword for the new one with +2 DMG. Players become less interested in the story and more interested in acquiring power and making numbers grow.

Attention wanes quickly in this hobby. If you’re fortunate enough to get the interest of ten players, expect eight to make characters and six to participate in the RP, and only four to make it past the two month mark. Assuming you do everything right. Keep things moving. If your RP has a weekly posting rotation and one of the players has some setbacks, don’t keep your other players waiting. Everyone should know the rules. Find a way to keep the struggling player in things while keeping the post rate up. But play it by ear. I once had a group of college students that were all taking tests at the same time and called for a multi-month hiatus so that they could finish their studies and ace their test. They were all appreciative of the wait and all of them came back to resume posting at the required pace. But I’ve been doing this for a long time, and I’ve only done that once. Again, talk to your players. You’ll get a feel for what everyone wants and needs.

There’s more I could say, but I think that’s good for some “quick tips.”

If you want some more Gming advice, I strongly recommend Dervish's Guide to GMing. It’s something I like to recommend to every aspiring GM and has loads of great advice. Doing is really where you learn though.

"Hey look! Something’s happening!"

— ΣΔΓΠΦ

As fun as it was to keep pummeling the faceless mob, all good things must come to an end. And for ΣΔΓΠΦ, that would happen when MDP brought their attention to the griffon. Or more specifically, whatever the hell it was babbling about.

"I agree." ΣΔΓΠΦ added with a grin. "The song is almost as silly as the name is, but neither one can be taken seriously." With MDP’s magic protecting her, there was no reason to defend herself. She continued her conversation with the whimsical girl, ignoring everything outside of MDP’s barrier. "You have an ultimate attack to?! I would, I would, I would love to see it!" ΣΔΓΠΦ lifted up MDP and placed her on her shoulders before charging towards their greatest opponent yet. It almost looked like a big sister was letting her younger sister ride piggyback. "Prepare your attack, princess! I’ll take care of everything else!"

But ΣΔΓΠΦ wouldn’t take care of everything else, because Mayra had attempted to throw MDP at the enemy like a projectile. And of course Mayra succeeded, but ΣΔΓΠΦ wasn’t about to let go. A giant sweat bead appeared on the side of her mount’s head as both MDP and ΣΔΓΠΦ soared towards their opponent.

"Just think of a happy thought!" the wolf girl sang out.

"Is it ever not mind control in Penrose?"

— Chloe Irving

With the flowers being what they were, it seemed that the best course of action was to simply exterminate them. Something that Chloe’s armies should have been more than capable of doing.

"No point letting the queen get a foot hold in here."

That was all the confirmation her subordinates needed. "They will be destroyed post-haste!"

And so the ossiarch got to work. While the men made out of bone may have looked heavy and slow, they were not. The bony constructs had little difficulty combing the streets for the flower creatures. Even the heights of the buildings were hardly a challenge. If a building was too difficult to climb, the gothizard harvesters were plenty tall enough to allow the mortek guards access to the roofs. The morghast didn’t even need that, as they could simply fly up and vanquish whatever was in their path. Necropolis stalkers broke ahead of the army, brandishing their four blades for opponents that seemed to be entirely not worth the effort. Certainly the last thing they needed to deal with was mana sapping hallucinogenic spores.

While her bone creatures set out, Chloe received a call from Viper. "Yes, that was why I called you. I’m glad you got out alright." She looked over her troops. "There isn’t much we can do at the moment. Return to wonderland. There are some Ossiarch guarding an interdimensional portal. Speak with the soul mason present and the next part of our plan can begin."

After the connection with Viper was terminated, a Mortisan Boneshaper rubbed his knuckles on his chest. "Is there a reason you didn’t have her come straight here?"

"Aren’t mortisans supposed to be smart?" Chloe walked back towards the portal out of Penrose. "Viper dealt a mortal blow* to Cindy Ford under the careful watch of multiple magical girls with third eye. Her disguises are impervious to such forms of discovery."

*Maybe not mortal, but weakened Cindy enough that Reaver was able to finish her off.

"Forgive me, mistress, but I am not so intimate with Viper’s abilities, nor how magic fully works in this world." He bowed his head slightly. "But if you suspect her to not be the genuine Viper, would it not be possible to discern with your crystal ball?"

"Normally, but I suspect they brainwashed Viper. And if she’s immune to third eye, she’s immune to the rest of my divination magic as well. I wouldn’t be able to tell if she’s been tampered with all that easily."

"Is mind control magic all that common?"

Despite the gravity of the situation, Chloe laughed.

"I might get gifts on an unbirthday? So it’s kinda like a Gacha game?"

"Only if you get waifus as gifts."

"You’re a gift to me, mommy!"

"HNGHHHHHHHHHH!" *Clenches chest*

— Su Fang & Mika Sarraf

Su had little difficulty tuning out the random noise to listen to Mariette. She did not interrupt her, instead opting to keep her arms crossed as she went on. But the more she went on, the tighter her arms became, and the more her brow twitched. Once she was done, Mika was the first to speak. There was far less friction between her brain and her mouth.

"My mom isn’t my original mom either…" Mika sighed and placed her hands on her hips. "But she doesn’t take my powers away, and she looks out for me. And she’s really pretty." And then, after a quick eye flick between the two surrogate mothers she added. "I bet my mom could beat your mom."

That was plenty of time for Su to form her own choice words.

"I’m just going to assume there’s a good reason you never told me about this, and circumstance had you wait for someone to enslave you to enact it." Though she couldn’t think of a good reason in the moment. Had Marriette expressed an interest in slaying a horror, Su would have signed up immediately to help. Her eyes flicked up to the queen, then back to Mariette. "You know you’re just replacing one tyrant with another, right? You’re free of Asengav, but now your mother is controlling you all in the name of revenge. She can’t have good intentions with all that magic." She sighed. "But she is freeing everyone else. Perhaps when a fight against Asengav commences, there will be an opportunity."

Su was still a bit apprehensive about trying to kill something as unfathomable as a horror, and magical girls couldn’t truly die. But dramatic confirmations had historically been the places where hearts could be changed and the unobtainable could be obtained. The only thing Su knew for sure was that the queen’s plan couldn’t succeed.

"You know we’re all literally going in the same direction, right?"

— Black Gate

"I think it would." Michi insisted. "Kiyo didn’t want me placing my servants around the club room. But if you’re inviting me, it should be okay so long as I don’t have any of them on me." That would about do it before the two departed. "Take care."

Tsubomi and Haruna ended up going in the same direction, as they both had the same class. Was that right?

Michi followed after them too, which rendered parting ways kind of moot. The trope of school children that was following them was only getting bigger. It wasn’t unlike the Pied Piper of Hamelin, only with students.

As Sylvia wallowed in her despair, Michi eyed the blond girl. She grabbed her hand as they walked by, causing her to spin around.

"You seem a little lost." She pointed ahead with her eyes. "They’re going to trample you if you aren’t careful. Try to pay attention."

"Shoe-co more like Secret-co amiright fellas?"

— Suki Oyama

Suki sighed. She didn’t have that many interactions with Shuuko, but the girl spent an awful lot of time dancing around details. If something bad happened, it was always an "incident." If someone was involved, they were always given some vague descriptor. After hearing the question, the gears in Suki’s head started to turn, and she remembered something. Her brow twitched before she looked ahead.

"Right, well, you’ve been spending a lot of time with Roche. Maybe too much?" She shrugged. "I mean you two were openly snuggling in the club room. You also just choked the two of us because we didn’t notice you in your new getup. If you’re that rough with your friend, I could see them thinking you hate them." Poor girl probably just wanted to be closer to Shuuko, but she was so oblivious to how others felt.

Just ahead of them, Suki was able to spot Tsubomi and Haruna coming towards them. As well as a giant mob of students, but she didn’t pay it much mind. It wasn’t like they were being unruly or anything, but it was weird. The hallways had been so empty a moment ago.

"Hey Sunshine!" Suki smiled. "And it’s Pin-"

Haruna could have written that letter. She did seem like the conscientious sort, and it was a given that she knew how to write calligraphy really well. Probably, she seemed like the type. She might have been a little deceitful, but like Kiyo had said, she wasn’t a maleficent person. She had managed to hide her identity as a light girl. It wasn’t that big of a stretch to assume that she could hide passionate emotions behind those baggy eyes. The only thing Suki had to do was decide how she felt about this.

"Uh…" Suki had stopped in her tracks. "So uh, meet you guys later for lunch." She blushed slightly and continued to walk back to class.

Michi was still holding Sylvia’s hand when she approached everyone. "Quick question, before you guys go to class." Her eyes scanned everyone. "Out of everyone here, who do you suppose likes Suki the most?"

"Good." Regina seemed satisfied with Roche’s plan. "I guess-" The two were interrupted by Ember’s sudden intrusion. With a sigh, Regina pinched the bridge of her nose. "Was I not fast enough? Eh, let’s catch up later." She reached into Roche’s pocket and pulled out her phone. With a phone in either hand, she quickly added a phone number. "There we go. Just call ‘Regina Grace’ if you need to get a hold of me." When she handed Roche her phone back, she quickly pecked the girl on the cheek before standing upright again. "Thanks again." She smirked before turning to the door. With a lunge, the western style door flew open, and Ember was thrown backwards.

"The hell are you doing, eavesdropping on us?" She placed her hands on her hips. "I’ll have you know I graduated from this very school just a few years ago. There isn’t a single student here that’s my senior, and you have the nerve to follow a fellow teacher and a student into a classroom that isn’t yours!?" She glanced up at a clock on the wall. "Classes should be starting any moment now. You’ll have plenty of time to worry about club equipment later when club activities are active. Tell those fools they’ll have plenty of time to run around in circles once they get some studying done!"

With Ember’s cover thoroughly eviscerated, Regina stomped her way past the girl and left. Though there was a curious lipstick stain on Roche’s cheek.

"Sure sure! Here’s one."

In no time at all, he unpacked his laptop and set it on her desk. He folded it open, and it looked like he already had the video prepared.

"I’ll give you some time to watch that." He reached into his satchel again, this time to pull out all the work sheets and some spare paper for writing. "The first few are pretty easy, and they get a little harder as you go along. When you’re done watching the video, do you mind if I help you with the first few? They’re easy, but I’d feel a little bad if I didn’t do a few questions with you. That’s what tutors are supposed to do, right?"

The cat’s TV case turned to a most unusual image of an eyeless Cheshire cat.

"Only a single sentence of build up? The Grand Magistrate must be in a yank." The static flickered and was lightly covered in static. "What an unusual existence. I am a cat in a TV now. I still do not exist from your perspective, gentle watcher. Yet the TV does not exist from their perspective either. Is it possible for something to not exist more than once? I had thought existence itself was a binary. You’re either a Zero or a Sum-One…"

The cat purred, or was it a growl. "Little weed, you know mascots aren’t very sociable creatures. You’ll have a better chance talking to the color yellow, or the words ‘I love you.’ And before you try, I think that would be a waste of your time. I brought them up to demonstrate the futility of your actions. On the topic of wishes though, is there one you’d like granted?"

I hope you enjoyed your trip. I'm past the worst of it for the moment.

Three Days Grace - Pain

Oros continued to grin. Not because she was happy but because it appeared to be defusing the situation, if only barely. It was kind of weird, though. The KoF crowd seemed like the sort who worshipped fighting, so it was a bit of a head scratcher as to why such a demonstration of strength didn’t have this girl swooning in her arms. Instead she was using logic on her. Common sense: The bane of everything fun. The Grand Magistrate of Penrose land could be infuriating at times, but at least he knew how silly stuff like this was. Nobody would care about some randos in a few days, it would be the legend of Oros the Mad that everyone remembered.

"My bad!" She raised her hand. "Hurting people is bad and I should learn to control myself better." If Oros thought this wouldn’t go anywhere, she’d give this pint sized punk the fight she wanted. Or rather, a one sided slaughter. But it was also kind of hot to be demeaned by someone who was smaller than you. The joys of going to other reality plenums where nobody knows who you are.

And then, Xiangfei’s deal.

Oh man, they’d get to work together for a few hours? And Oros would be in contact with her uncle, who seemed to be someone she respected? They’d be drinking coffee at her house in no time at all!

"Say no more!" She stood up. "We’ll be ready for the lunch rush in just a few seconds!"

Oros pointed her sword up in the air, and her bestial magic flooded her body. One by one every muscle popped out and her veins turned black.

With blinding speed, the injured patrons were seated at nearby tables. None of them were critically injured, but they all had different levels of bruising and alertness. With everyone in close proximity to Oros, he raised a hand, and conjured a less intense form of her bestial magic. Their bruises started to shrink, and some of them started to wake up.

"I’ve got the guys in the back and the fighters under control!" She gave Xiangfei a thumbs up. "Oh yea, I don’t think I got your name. Everyone calls me Oros, just to satisfy your curiosity."

And she was curious.

Absolutely.

"I hope that’s not a power dunk."

Mika was not an emotional fighter. While she quietly spited all monsters and wished them all the suffer, it was not something she allowed to surface during her fights. A bit of anger could hone your strength, but too much clouded one’s vision. It was no different than performance enhancing drugs like some espers used. There were no rules to combat, you could take as much as you wanted, but too much just turned you into a mindless beast.

She wondered if that was what her opponent had turned into.

Perhaps Mika had been a bit over zealous with her approach. They were quite close now, and maneuvering her knives to defend herself was going to be tricky. Fortunately she had just attempted to punch him in the head, so her hand was already in place to defend her face. With her increased strength, she had an easier time bracing against his attack. His follow up attack was harder to see, especially with the last blow coming for her face. The lack of any energy made it impossible for her third eye to detect, and it slammed into her rib cage. She coughed as soon as the attack landed. Her other arm reflexively came in front of her stomach, but it wasn;t enough to stop her from getting launched skyward.

"Speed of a- *Cough* Ostrich!"

This wasn’t the most useful melody to have going with her feet off the floor, but there was no point lecturing herself about that now. She had just enough time to brace her knives against the incoming dunk, but that wasn’t going to do anything for her back as she slammed back into the ground. At least she bounced. With a wheeze, she stumbled to her feet.

"You talk too much." She smacked her knives together, and the long dead spirits of the forest leapt off the blades. She half winced as the soreness in her back got worse. "Are you just going to gawk at me? I don’t think you can punch me from all the way over there."

The temptation was to snap something off at the blond man right away, but Mika knew she had to conserve her mana. She pointed at him with her knife and took her time preparing her next spell with care.

"Easy on the jewelry, Shoe-co"

— Suki Oyama

"What did they write?" Suki started to blush, then chuckled. "Ah, they wrote quite a bit. It seemed really nice. Part of me thinks it’s a prank of some kind." The part of her she was using all of her power to ignore, that is. "But I don’t know. No one in school really pranks the Detention club." Yet that was easier to believe then someone leaving her a letter. And yet…

Kiyo being tight-lipped was expected, but fine. There was an unspoken rule that when you refused to share information, you couldn’t expect to get more information. As excited as Suki was, she understood the importance of keeping things somewhat under wraps in the short term. While Kiyo didn’t strike her as a prankster or a saboteur, the halls had many ears.

"Well I hope it all-hurk!"

After shuuko put Suki’s choker to the test, the girl whipped around and nearly beat her over the head with her text book. Then, when they seemed to be slightly familiar, she tossed the text book onto the floor. "I tripped!" She grabbed the sides of her head. "Strangely!"

But it seemed like all Shuuko wanted to do was ask them a question. "Sure, I can answer a question, just let me get the projector we came for." Suki peered into the nearby classroom. Sure enough, the projector was on top of the teacher’s desk, and all the students inside had already started their math assignments. "This shouldn’t take too long." It didn’t look that heavy. It didn’t even seem like the thing that you needed two people for, but it ultimately worked to Suki’s advantage. She walked up to the projector, picked it up, and instantly made a face. "Hngh! A little heavier than- actually it’s fine!!" She walked back into the hall, seeming to forget her textbook as she rounded the corner and looked at Shuuko. "So what’s this question you wanted to ask?" She inquired while she walked.

"Ah, I apologize." She patted Roche’s shoulder. "But to get to your questions, yes, I did plan the encounter. Or rather-"

She looked around herself. One of the nearby classrooms did not appear to be in use. She put her arms under Roche’s armpits and lifted her up before stepping inside. Then she scuffed her way towards the back of the class where there was a janitorial closet. Once the two of them were inside, she slid the door shut with her foot. Thanks to a skylight, the room wasn’t entirely dark. But it wasn’t very spacious. The closet was only a little bigger than an elevator, but the walls were lined with bins and brooms and cleaning supplies. Few of them appeared as more than colored silhouettes outside of the skylight’s spotlight-like light.

"You mentioned secrecy being important. I hope that didn’t startle you." She set Roche down before folding her hands together. "Now for your questions. You are correct. I wanted to save Misoka from the Detention club. She is one of the few good things in this world, and its clear that the dread your trope spreads is bothering her. Or at least, that was what I thought. I knew that if I burned down the flower shop that you wouldn’t suspect a strong connection between us. Misoka is beloved by many and her father works a steady job in the city of light. Misoka’s father should have a lot of money put away, and who wouldn’t come together to help the town’s most beloved child? But I miscalculated. The real goal was just to cause some property damage and leave. I wanted to hurt the detention club, and at least in that I had succeeded." She sighed and placed her hands on her hips. "Tracking you guys isn’t too difficult. I know I said I was building up a team, but the truth is that I already have one. I have several dark magical girls that work with me and intercepting your connections is child’s play. They know their way around phones, computers, and software." Her eyes wandered around Roche. "You know, you’re not as heavy as I thought you’d be. And you smell kind of nice."

"Does Ken Ashcorp even make music anymore?"

— Black Gate

"I see" Michi said again. Kiyo had made it apparent the club was a shelter from her servants, and due to not liking the school it was nothing she was ever going to be a part of. "Well, I doubt anything could be that crushing. If so, I'm sure something can be arranged to resolve it… Whatever it is." She rubbed the back of her head. "It sounds like you have your hands full. I saw Kiyo and Suki walk down the hall just a moment ago, so if you wanted to catch them before the next class begins, you can probably do that. And um…" She shrugged her shoulders. "I guess I’ll catch up with you again later."

Finn looked down at his outfit, then back up at Norika. "Ah, yes." She noted that his outfit offered the wearer far more protection than everyone around them. "You aren’t wrong. I think a mask, gloves, and a gown are what they recommend to keep those around you healthy. I don’t think this is necessarily worse than that, is it?" he tipped his head. "But if it’s not necessary, I shall remove it! Much longer and I’ll start sweating…"

And so, Finn began to undress. There all manner of noises as he shuffled around inside his suit. The squeak of stretching rubber, the hiss of something depressurizing, The click and clack of twenty hasps, and the layers continued to come off. Until at last the boy had removed the last article of his suit. He dried his forehead on his sleeve with a sigh.

"Terribly sorry about that! But I think we’re ready to continue, no?" He picked back up the two paint sticks with I-hat and J-hat glued to them. "Moving on! The main thing you’ll be doing with linear transformations as they relate to matrices is trying to understand what the transformation is. Transformation in this case is just a function. And to start doing that, we use I-Hat and J-Hat!" He held them at a perfect right angle. "They’re really just the coordinates (0,1) and (1,0) respectively. As simple as it is to say, you can figure out where any vector in a matrix will end up after a transformation just by studying those two. But it’s, uh, a little easier to understand with some visual aids." He pulled some papers out of his suitcase and placed them at her desk. "But I also have a video I can show you too, if you’d rather. There’s so much cool stuff on the internet nowadays!"

Zassou didn’t have to look very hard. As soon as she entered the empty classroom, it only took the TV headed cat a second to find the girl and start rubbing against her legs.
