Biography
The son of former action star Akira Hayakawa and novelist Rina Uzaki, Tommy and his younger brother Jiro were born and raised in Angel Grove, but visited family in Japan frequently. At ten years old in fifth grade, Tommy became best friends with Eddie when they were paired together on a science fair project. At thirteen years old, he lost his brother during a fishing trip when their yacht got caught up in a sudden storm and smashed against the rocks of a nearby island. Tommy and his parents survived, but they never found the body of Jiro. It has haunted Tommy ever since.
After the apparent death of his youngest son, Akira fell into a downward spiral of drugs and alcohol, and died of a heroin overdose within a year. Tommy and his mother wrote a novel together about Akira’s life and their family’s struggles, which was outside Rina’s usual genres of magical girl and martial arts fantasy. It was published when Tommy was fifteen and was briefly considered a bestseller, and solidified his desire to be a writer like his mother.
Now he is on his Summer vacation before the start of senior year, and hopes to earn a degree in creative writing after high school.
