Sorry for my absence! A Volunteering position suddenly turned into a Volunteer Leadership position I was not expecting at all so things have been hectic.

Look at you posers, having to bang dragons or sell your soul for magic when you could just play a lute for some. Anyways, here's Wonderwall. - Bards

@Zapdos I'm curious, would there be some sort of stat system or any sort of structured system to determine if attempts at actions work or would it be entirely free form? Like if someone were to build a hut, would they just build a hut in their post and then boom in the next one a hut would appear? Would the player know about a chance of failure or is that something that just happens based on GM decision?
More or less a random thought. I've always been a fan of games like the Guild 2 and various sort of town/business simulators and trading games plus I just remembered that Spice and Wolf exists. I remember trying to implement trade and trade goods into one of my irl D&D campaigns and that was a bit of a cluster fuck due to how wonky 5e's economy is but I still think it would be interesting. Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions on how to make it possible?

My initial idea would be something like the GM has a list of trade goods that have an average price and a list of places to buy and sell from. Each place would have their own price variations and maybe special events/rumors that can change the price of things as well as having their own specialty. The RP then would be the players travelling from place to place trying to get the best deals, pay off their stuff and not starve to death. Maybe with an added things of fighting off bandits or upgrading a truck/wagon.

kinda hard due to IRL but still going

Don't worry, IC isn't starting this week, just the OOC
As a forever DM irl, I'd be willing to try my hand at PBP 5e.
Awesome, I'll see to getting an OOC up over the weekend (hopefully).

Still looking for one more person if possible, can't wait to see the sheets though!
Hello! Welcome to the guild.
No problem @Fetzen, skills are what you'd might expect. For example a very stereotypical Neo Norse might have skills such as Sailing, Axe Fighting, Fishing, Singing, Athletics and Navigation, all things that they would have reasonably picked up from their background. In the same way, a New Yorker Merchant would know things about Trade, Ships, Multiple Languages, and Negotiation while a Knight of the South would be well versed in Riding, Jousting, Courtly Etiquette and maybe the finer points of Evangelical Christianity.

Of course you don't need to just follow stereotypes. Mr. Norse might have found himself a home on land and picked up some sort of trade skill like Shoe Making/Cobbling or Woodworking. The Merchant might have been an ex-mercenary prince and thus knows a great deal about Leadership, Tactics and Fighting while the Southron Knight might be half blood with an Evangelical Father and an Occultist Snowbird Mother and thus also knows some things about the Eldritch Lore of Occultism or rugged Survival tactics like trapping, tracking and hunting.

If you need some more inspiration, D&D or Pathfinder skills could work well, maybe Dwarf Fortress too.
So I've been doing some more planning on the story side of things and this is what I have so far.

You guys (the PCs) have been hired by a local lord to go into an old world ruin with current ideas for the actual ruin in question include:
- A subway/metro system underground
- A Walmart in the middle of no where
- An airport
- A shopping mall

I'm planning for the actual RP to go something like:
1. The gathering (the part where everyone meets up at the tavern or something similar where you get the quest)
2. The travel (actually getting to the ruin takes time and will involve outdoorsy survival stuff, likely take two days or more)
3. The ruins (doing the fighting and searching and avoiding traps)
4. The way back and the reward (gotta haul it back to cash in your loot before going your separate ways)

As for the actual gathering reason, one could just be the simple tavern rumor leads to a crew going out for the treasure. Another slightly more complex is that all of you have actually been arrested by a local lord and told if you go find this old world artifact you'll be free of your charges. In both cases, there would be an NPC accompanying you either as a sort of local guide or as a warden to make sure you don't just run off.

Thoughts or ideas?
well, the idea i finaly have now just write a rust cultist tank of a man.

The first person that came to mind was John Henry, a steel driver said to be built like a brick house in some stories. I imagine someone as big as the Mountain from GoT in heavy armor, wearing an apron-tabbard, a helmet like one of those train plow grills and a giant sledge hammer maybe with a spike on one end. Just a random thought that might help get the inspiration wheels turning.
@Jarl Coolgruuf Awesome! Any characters in mind?

@Fetzen Would it be an American or European Norseman since they'd have some difference between them.

As a general post, I'm probably only looking for 3 to 4 characters overall to keep things managable.
