"You can call your dark magics 'demons' all you like but I ain't buying this prophecy bullshit. It's a excuse for people to fail to act. Callin' her an angel... Look no offence to your family but the fact so many died and she is still around doesn't comfort me or the path of our cause one bit."
Kain retreats into himself for a moment with a groan as he closes his eyes and steadies his breath. "Can you get me those things? Or must I go else where?" He gently squeezes her hand. His intention unclear. Was it hope, was he pleading, did he want to hold her or was it just a twitch. His eyes slowly open and he looks at her from within those different coloured irises.
Kain struggles not to smile as it clearly hurt but he couldn't help it as Tia moddled the outfit.
"Speaking of suits, I guess we have a pretty big budget, I need access to recourses and an engineering team."
Kain breathes deeply after those many words.
"Oh, Tia. Thanks for worrying but I was fine. It would have been irresponsible for her to oppose me." the look in his eyes told Tia he was serious. "Pay her out well will you, it was unfair of me. What have we learnt of the attack, I couldn't find anything..." The disappointment of his failings evident in his shaky voice. @Wick
"Friends, who needs 'em! You just keep hiding behind those excuses all you want, that fallible logic and poor reasoning. I will expose you... there's no harm in admitting your weakness and failings. After all the responsibility you have is a large burden to bare."
Kain's taunting at Wickid bordered malice as he chuckles and gasps in pain. Once she was truly gone he collapsed into the bed.
Soon Tia arrived, "Is she ok?" he struggles to ask on raspy breaths. "the car, you were gentle?"
Growing impatient and bored Azerus starts playing with his magic. First the soft glow of light appears in his hands, then a white flame, it slowly simmers and becomes brighter. It arcs with blue flashes as it becomes more erratic, changing into lightning. A wicked smile flashes across his face. Azerus lets this electricity run up his arms to his shoulders, he eagerly looks around the guild for somewhere or someone to direct his energy towards.
Kain awkwardly shoots up from his bed and yells at the woman with all his breath! His voice accentuating with the discomfort of his movements. He put up little fight against the elder nurses. Finding himself too frail to resist, they easily and quickly restrained him back down to the bed and continued the treatment.
Still he struggled, even if it was futile and pointless. He would find Sarah again, if only as a sign of disobedience to the older lady. Many things were discussed through that long cold night, Sarah's words had already laid a deep impact within his mind and resonated in his future thoughts.
She helped Kain consider things he hadn't before, he found new purpose and paths. He could safely admit that he didn't have the combat strength or abilities to rival his fellow meta's, but Sarah reminded him that his power was more then just strength. Kain had an aptitude for crafting and mechanical engineering, capable of doing things no production machinery could ever hope to. He was also no longer just some kid on the street with only the clothes on his back, Kain now had access to resources he couldn't even imagine yet...
This was how he would spend his recovery days, this was how he would bring himself to the level of others. It was a fine line between fear and respect, it was one Kain believed he had to find to bring things into order.
"So where were you any way?" Kain shouts out to Wickid then gives a spluttering cough. "I mean when rookies filled the streets, a bunch of kids fought some hellish creature while normal humans lives hung in the balance." He lets out a dry painful chuckle. His words an echo of Sarah's. "I mean serious, who does that?"
With the gradual return of the sun, so too came Kain's every pulsing ache and pain. Using his powers to move what he shouldn't have and drugs to numb the warnings sent to his brain, the last nights antics caused him to awake to a whole new hell of discomfort.
He could feel his body burning, heavy with sweat and short on breath. His bandages were wet with blood, others had unraveled and opened wounds to the unsanitary conditions and dirt around him.
For a whole hour he just lay there, movement being out of the question. Sarah was not present, but he couldn't even muster up a thought to spare her way. Not till he had lay there completely still and acclimatised to his condition. Until he had used his powers to slowly re-stitch open wounds. And covered other exposed injuries with a new type of semi solid flexible metal that acted as a bandage or temporary skin, developed just then on the spot out of necessity.
Convinced he couldn't get any better just laying there Kain begun the excruciating motions of movement. Once a simple thoughtless task now broken down into focused bite sized chunks. Each stage requiring exertion of energy, rest and recuperation before embarking on the next.
Right, sit up, groan, check wounds. Roll onto knees, pause, catch breath, reposition weight. Bring up knee, STOP, too painful, grit teeth and bury pain, try again other leg. Use powers, get the metal to help lift, Push! Standing, dizzy, balance, lean against the wall, cough sickly, New pain, keep still, wobble, something inside hurts, ignore. Stumble across the wall for support, fail to shield eyes from the sun, shoulder won't lift, don't try again. Cough some more, catch breath, limbs shaking, sweat burning eyes.
And there it was, black hope slithering towards him in the bright morning light. Sarah had found his bike and was slowly pushing it this way. It would have been easier for her had there been a key for it, but Kain went so far as to remove the manual starting mechanism. Only he could start or use it now.
He wanted to run down a meet her half way, he wanted to help and be useful, but he couldn't. He just stood and waited as Sarah and his bike slowly came near. A smile creeping across his lips as he watched her fight on with enthusiasm, pushing the heavy bike, her blonde hair swaying about, feet occasionally slipping.
Soon after, they exchanged general morning pleasantries and a few jokes about their condition and situation, Sarah then helped Kain to and onto his bike. He again found some level of freedom, letting the bike do the moving for him. It was lightly beat up but he didn't mind. He was just surprised it was still around.
Exhausted and with no leads or clues, Kain on his bike and Sarah in his car, admitted defeat and went back home empty handed. Kain was a shocking mess. Bandages caked with blood and dirt, patches of burnt skin visible, contorted scrap metal running along and around his body, glimpses of shiny silver beneath all the chaos and heavy beads of sweat trickling down over it all.
Leaving the vehicles right outside the medical ward Sarah aided him through the building as quick as she could to the nearest room. Ignoring the glares and stares from the rest of her staff. Sarah too was looking a bit of a mess. Kain finally fell into the bed with a rigid groan.
"Go move the car first." He exclaims between exhausted breaths as she began tending his wounds. With a playful laugh she obliges and disappears out of the room. Meanwhile in her absence loud clunking comes from Kain's room as he strips off his metal aids.
It was no wonder she was a nurse, Sarah was just a natural healer. Not like a meta healer or anything but her mere presence and company was up-lifting. Kain wasn't sure if it was just her gentle nature, caring smile or infective positive manor but her presence certainly helped cure the anguish and distraught in his mind. As for his body... Well she had an ailment for that pain too.
The car had pulled up as close to the rubble and chaos from the earlier days carnage as the roads would allow. While emergency services had evacuated the area, it was still pure havoc. So much damaged cars building debris and rubble everywhere. Kain didn't even know what he was looking for.
As he slowly gathered some nearby metal and began forming it into a supportive exoskeleton, Sarah pulled out some cigaret papers and a small pouch of something leafy and green. " Your in pain right. It's alright then, purely medicinal. As your nurse I insist! " she says while giving him a wide sweet smile and holding out a joint.
Instinctively Kain was ready to reject her offer and shut her down, since setting himself on the path of helping others he had been avoiding any and all drugs. Going so far to be an advocate against them. They had lead him to a life he wasn't proud of and he never wanted to go back there again. But somehow with Sarah offering, Kain felt as though nothing could go wrong, and he was truly willing to take anything now to ease some of the pain from his injuries. He almost wished to still be hooked up to those damn machines back at base. Anything to take the edge off.
And so that's how they spent their night. Digging deeper into the depths of disaster, talking, laughing and getting extremely fucked up and high as they endlessly sorted through, cleaned and fixed up the chaos around them, hoping to stumble across a clue. It wasn't long till their purpose was forgotten and they were simply exploring, enjoying each other's company.
Resting in a half dilapidated building they soon fell asleep. Knowing it so, Kain secured them in the hidden safety of a metal bubble.
