Also, Star Command, Zac, and Team Squall can take this one down without waiting on the others. But Zac can wait to seal the keyhole to show the Islanders how it's done.

Ah, noted. I'll probably go ahead and edit my post later to put him on the offensive, then
<Snipped quote by IAmTheIsland>

Thank god, I was second-guessing myself the whole time since I posted. I was almost convinced I was reading something wrong XD
As promised, post is up. Zac'll hold the line until everyone else can get to where he is, then give them a little test lol
Zac wiped the sweat from his forehead and exhaled. "Whoo," he said as he examined the empty lot. It took him longer than he expected, but he had just finished taking out the last Heartless for the time being. However, having been in this situation more than a few times, he knew that it was only a brief respite. More were bound to show up sooner or later. "I'd better take a look around the town," he said as he rested Stormcall on his shoulder. "Maybe I can meet up with whoever else made it here."

He was about to take a step forward when he heard the bell sound out. Bong...bong...bong... At the sound of the third ring, he felt the hair on the back of his neck stand up. Over the years, he had heard rumors about the bell in the Second District, on top of the Gizmo Shop, that something would happen should it ever be rung three times in a row. That "something" varied depending on whoever told the story, but there was one thing everyone was in agreement on: it wasn't anything good. As he cast Haste on himself once more, Zac chuckled. "A hero's work is never done," he muttered as he leapt from the ground to the rooftops above.

Moving across the rooftops, it took Zac no time at all to reach the Second District, an tiered plaza lined with shops. On one end was the Gizmo Shop, which sat on top of what appeared to be a mansion of some kind. On the roof of the shop was the bell, the wooden barricade that had blocked off the bell nowhere to be seen. On the other end was a fountain, which usually depicted a mural. However, the mural was nowhere to be seen. In it's place, to Zac's surprise, was a keyhole and approaching it was a large Heartless. Armored appendages floated around a central torso, upon which a helmet floated and spun. As it reached out toward the Keyhole, Zac smirked. "So, that's your game, huh?"

He reached the edge of the rooftop of the clothing shop he was on and dropped straight down before reorienting himself so his feet were against the wall. He launched himself off of the building, cracking the wall under his feet as he shot toward the Heartless, flipping so he crashed into the gauntlet feet-first. He rode the gauntlet like a skateboard before it crashed into the nearby wall, kicking up a cloud of dust as the brick facade crumbled. "Sorry about that," he said as he aimed his Keyblade at the main body, "but I already lost one world to you monsters. I'm not about to lose another."

The gauntlet under his feet twitched before it suddenly lurched, throwing him off. Zac landed on his feet, skidding to a stop, and lifted his head just in time to see the Guard Armor swing a backhand at him with its other gauntlet. Zac held out his hand and caught the strike, stopping it dead in its tracks. Despite the heavy blow, he remained unbudging. "I'm not gonna go down that easily," he said with a smirk as he swung Stonecall with his free hand, deflecting the gauntlet. He let out a breath and made ready to destroy the Heartless, but stopped. Then, he smiled.

"Today's your lucky day," he told the monster, though he was about 80% sure it couldn't understand him. "I'm gonna play pure defense, so you're gonna live a bit longer. I'm sure my new friends heard that bell, so they'll be here soon. I gotta see if they can handle themselves before they're turned loose on the other worlds." With that, he raised a wall of stone around the Keyhole and planted the tip of his Keyblade into the ground, resting his hands on the pommel with a confident smirk on his face as he watched the Guard Armor approach.

My disappointment is immeasurable and my day is ruined. Really wanted to see 1000 >3>
Seeing summons being mentioned, I'm all for it. I'll stake my claim on Titan now, since that's really the only one that'll fit Zac the best. Since his story won't start gaining traction until CoM, at the earliest, and since he's been around the block a few times, he might already have his summon, but he won't use it for a long while, yet. If that's alright, of course
Hey, sorry for disappearing. I'm still here, was just waiting for a chance to make Zac relevant, again lol

I'll get a post up, most likely at some point today

I definitely didn't forget there was a collab >.>
Vincent
&
Kila

It had been a few days since Vincent’s return from his mentorship. A few days since meeting Erin. Since then, they had been trading texts back and forth, getting to know each other, talking about how excited they were for Saturday. It had been impossible for him to get her out of his mind, which he didn’t mind most of the time. However, this also led to him getting distracted fairly often, which he had noticed. It was mostly minor stuff, like getting lost while jogging when he turned left when he should have turned right, but he was also taking more hits when he sparred, which was unacceptable to him.

He was in the middle of sending Erin a text while he worked on dinner when the smell of something burning started to fill the air. “Shit, shit, shit!” he muttered as he left his phone on the counter and opened the stove, realizing he had forgotten to set a timer. Without thinking, he reached in to pull the burning roast out and let out a yelp of pain when his bare hand made contact with the pan. “Goddammit! he hissed as he held his hand in the sink and turned on the cold water. Using his power, he pulled the burnt roast (or, rather, the cast iron pan the roast was in) out of the oven and dropped it on the stove as he nursed his burn.

“Rather odd for the chef prodigy with iron palms to burn himself in the kitchen…” A familiar voice came from around the corner before the headbush was seen. The young lion had noticed the off nature of Vincent over the past couple days. Uncharacteristically distracted, mind aloof with eyes that had rode off into the horizon line in an old western. However, instead of the cold shadows of trauma being in them, there was the brilliance of something else. Something ahead of him, instead of over his shoulder.

”Is everything alright?”

Vincent looked over at the friendly teasing and let out a pained chuckle. “Yeah, I’m fine. Barely touched the pan. Worst case, I end up with a couple of blisters later,” he muttered as the cool water began to dull the pain. He thought back to the burns he suffered at Roscoe’s diner when he was starting out, how the old man taught him to treat them. As he thought about Roscoe, his thoughts naturally drifted to his granddaughter and Vincent let out a chuckle. “Even now, I can’t get her out of my head,” he muttered under his breath.

As he waited for the water to do its work, he glanced over at Kila. Though he had asked if everything was alright, Vincent had a feeling he wasn’t asking just about the burn. He was well aware that he had been acting strange since his return from Bludhaven, making mistakes he normally wouldn’t, and he was sure that Kila wasn’t the only one who had noticed. “I’ve…I’ve had something on my mind lately,” he said after a few moments. Turning to Kila, he then asked, “Mind lending me an ear?”

A corner of Kila’s lip upturned in a smirk. ”Any time…”

Entering further into the kitchen, he opened the refrigerator to grab a bag of beef jerky. He mulled over what he heard Vince mutter. A ‘her’ was what rattled his mind so much. Kila himself could relate in several possible ways, depending on the context of Vince’s explanation.

”Something on your mind…when perhaps you mean ’someone’?”

Vincent let out a chuckle and said, “Yeah. Got it in one.” He took a moment to reach under the sink and grab the first aid kit, using the distraction to get his thoughts in order. Keeping his right hand still, he searched through the kit for burn cream as he said, “I swung by Bludhaven after my mentorship with Firestorm and I met this girl. Erin. She’s the granddaughter of the owner of the diner I used to work at between fights, back before I joined up with you guys. She’s pretty awesome. Real nice, but she doesn’t take shit from anyone.”

He applied the cream and wrapped his hand in a bandage as he continued, “Every time I think about her, it makes my heart race. But when I think about us getting together this weekend, I feel excited, but…nervous, I think? It’s definitely a feeling I’m not used to.”

In the midst of Vincent’s explanation, Kila decidedly sat on a counter with his legs crossed. When given the context behind this ‘her’, the young lion chuckled and bit into a piece of jerky. It made him think of Kassy, his…Rudo. The thought of her made him smile a little less to Vince’s expense and more to wholesomeness.

”Sounds like you have got it bad…To clarify, I understand what you’re feeling. You have a crush on Erin, as I felt— or perhaps the right way to say it is ‘how I still feel’ about Kassy.” The warrior explained. ”The nervousness and excitement is normal.”

As he listened to Kila, Vincent leaned against the counter, his arms crossed. “A crush, huh?” he quietly mused. As he thought about it, he realized it made sense why what he was feeling left him so confused. Right about the time when he would have started having an interest in romance and whatnot, he had gone through several life-changing events which led to him living on the streets. Up until recently, he had been literally fighting to survive and pursuing a relationship was so far down his list of priorities, it had been nonexistent.

However, as ironic as it was, his new life as a superhero (it still felt weird to call himself that) made things more stable. All of his worries from before, from money to having somewhere to sleep at night and everything in between, were taken care of. He had time to not only pursue hobbies and friendships, but even a relationship with Erin, if he wanted. And it surprised him just how much he wanted to. However, the young hero still had his doubts.

“Maybe…maybe I should call it off,” he said after a few long moments. “I mean, look at me, look at how distracted I’ve been lately. It’s one thing here at home, but what if we’re on a mission?” He chuckled and added, ”Besides, I don’t know if I’d call myself boyfriend material, anyway. All I know how to do is fight and cook. I’ve got no idea how to act like a boyfriend.”

Kila paused before he took another bit of jerky from the bag, instead using that hand to support his chin. Something in Kila’s expression seemed surprised that he would even say that. Usually, from what the maned man-cub could gather, Vincent was the type to walk without worrying about stumbling. He could understand the feeling to doubt oneself, as his own situation in recent weeks brought such feelings often; even now. Given the betrayal of his trust that was recently unlocked in his memory, there were days he wondered if he should still even be here.

Yet, there was something stable that his thoughts could find themselves back to. Someone that managed to pull him out of that reopened wound of grief. From what Kila understood, his friend had gone through a lot as well in the past. Perhaps Vince could have someone like that for him, with this Erin. He’d never know if he never gave himself a chance though.

”Well, I can’t tell you what to or what not to do…Though I will ask this: As a fighter, did you cancel any of your fights because of a fear of not being good enough? Or as a cook, did you throw plates away because of a fear of not getting the taste right?” Kila’s head tipped to the side and he gestured to Vincent himself as he asked the question before continuing.

”Considering how good you’ve gotten at both of those things, I’d venture to say that you didn’t. You trusted what you were taught by your teachers and gave yourself a chance. Erin saw something in you that she wants to see again. So, perhaps you should trust that what she saw might make you good boyfriend material.”

“Huh.” Vincent was quiet for some time after that, mulling over what Kila had said. Erin did seem excited to see him again and he realized it wouldn’t be fair to her if he cancelled on her just because of his doubts. Both the Old Man and Roscoe saw something in him that convinced them to give him a chance, to give him the skills he had now. If Kila was right and Erin saw something in him that made her think it was worthwhile to spend time with him, then it was only fair that Vincent gave her the same chance. Beyond that, somewhere deep inside of him, Vincent knew that he also owed it to himself. After spending so long just trying to get from day to day, he deserved some happiness.

He smiled and pushed away from the counter, saying, “Thanks, Kila. I’m glad I talked to you.”

”Any time, my friend. Biting into another piece of jerky. Looking on at the burnt roast that Vincent had taken out, he gestured with his head to it. ”Since it seems that this meat is…‘dead meat’, did you have a plan B for dinner?”

Vincent sighed and rested his chin between his thumb and index finger as he thought. “I wouldn’t necessarily say that it’s ruined,” he said after some time. “If it’s just the surface that’s charred, I can probably slice the roast thin, whip up some kinda gravy or an improvised Cajun sauce, and spoon it over. Won’t be the same as blackening it, but I’m sure I can get it pretty close.”

With a grin, he added, “It’s like you said. I've gotta at least try!”
Vincent
&
Cora

“Huh, so this is where the lab is,” Vincent muttered as he stepped through the doors. “I never realized it was so close to the gym.” He looked around the lab, taking in the sight of half-finished projects scattered about and the equipment, most of which he didn’t know the name of or how they worked, needed to work on said projects. It was largely how he had imagined it would look, high-tech and futuristic, and it made him feel a bit out of place. However, there was a reason he was there.

“Hey, Cora!” he called out. “You in here? I was told this was where I could find you!”

”Yeah, over here!” She was sitting at a table with some bizarre contraption in front of her, currently in various pieces. There were tools neatly laid out, and she leaned over it with her hair tied back as she did something with it. Cora had a metallic-looking bracelet around both of her wrists, which she used to “eat” the static electricity she gave off.

”what’s up?”

Vincent made his way over to where Cora worked, stopping every so often to look at some gizmo sitting on a table, as he said, “Nothing much, just thought I’d stop by, see how you’re doing. We haven’t had much of a chance to chat since we joined up.”

He stopped next to Cora and leaned in, looking at the device she was fiddling with. He tried to figure out what it was, at least for a few moments, but when he decided he couldn’t, he asked, “What’s this thing?”

”This…” Cora held up some cylindrical thing that looked like it was made of a dozen square metal things. Kind of like a homemade electromagnet. ”Is basically a black hole for electrical signals. Static helped me make stuff, so I’m fooling around and seeing what else I can do with something like it.”

“I see,” Vincent said, nodding sagely. Though he understood the words individually, he didn’t quite understand what they meant together. He was quiet for a few more moments after that, simply watching Cora work, until he asked, “How’re you feeling? After what happened in the swamp, I mean.”

”Like an egg left on the sidewalk in 110 degree weather,” she answered. ”Nothin’ I can’t walk off, apparently but… Yeah, that sucked. I’m okay now, though. Even if I’m probably fifty pounds lighter.”

Vincent chuckled and turned around, leaning back against the table Cora was working on. “Well, I’m glad you’re up and moving around. Honestly, if I could put on that kinda lightshow, I’d probably still[ be in bed,” he said, crossing his arms. He glanced back to Cora and asked, “What about…you know mentally? Emotionally? You doing okay on that front?”

”Mm, kinda? I mean, it definitely sucks when everyone else has to worry about me. That feels bad itself, so does being stuck in bed for two days,” And slowly dying. ”But resting and sitting still didn’t help. If I sat down too long, I wouldn’t get back up, so I’ve been staying busy. I talk to Black Canary about doing things.”

“I hear you,” Vincent said with a nod. “There were a few times back when I was fighting that I’d get hurt and have to spend some time getting bedrest. I thought I’d go crazy not being able to move. Not exactly the same thing, but I can relate.” His mind drifted back to the last fight he had taken part in. The chaos, the fear…the blood. He unconsciously squeezed his arms as he pushed the memories back.

“I…also know what it’s like losing control,” he said after a few moments. Turning to Cora, he added, “I don’t know how much help I can be, but if you wanna talk, I’m here.”

Cora leaned back in her chair. ”What happens when you lose it?” She was curious.

Vincent hesitated. It wasn’t something he liked to talk about, something he wished he could forget. But if he was serious about letting Cora come to him if she needed it, then it was only fair if that street went both ways. “Well, it starts off as a splitting headache,” he began slowly. “Then things with iron or carbon start to float and warp before I start pulling carbon out of the air. Starts with the things closest to me and then it starts to spread out. Then it all starts to swirl around me, kinda like a tornado. Iron turns to liquid, then solid, then back again, carbon shards start flying around. And then it steadily gets worse until I can either get a handle on it or the headache makes me pass out.”

He let out a sigh and looked up toward the ceiling. “It usually only happens if I get pissed off enough or if I overuse my powers. First time it happened, it wasn’t too bad. I was with a foster family that already had kids of their own. They kept picking on me until I snapped and sent the silverware flying. Scared the shit out of them, but no one got hurt. The last time, though…” He trailed off and shook his head before reaching behind him. He tapped on his implant and added, “Anyway, that’s why I have this. Nightwing, with some help from Batman, got in touch with someone and they gave me this to help keep my power under control. Things haven’t pushed me that far, yet, and I’m hoping it stays that way, but the reassurance doesn’t hurt.”

Cora gave him a look. ”Dude. That’s fucked. How does that thing help? Some weird thing with your powers where it messes with that first?”

Vincent shrugged. “I won’t pretend I know how it works,” Vincent said, “but the way that it was explained to me is that it limits my power to a fraction of what I’m capable of. If I go beyond that, then the implant does something that keeps me from using my power at all for…five, ten minutes, I think? Long enough for me to pretty much calm down and reset. I can still punch and move around, but I won’t be as bulletproof as I usually am.”

After a moment, he turned to Cora and asked, “Think something like that could help you? Though, your powers might fry an implant…”

”Probably. I’m already messed up enough, I don’t think chopping me open’s gonna help. I got this thing for that.” She pointed down at the weird gizmo. ”I just give off energy like a fire, the way my powers work. I give off more when I’m blasting something with lightning, this just eats it before it actually affects me.”

Glad to have something else to talk about, Vincent moved away from the table and turned to get a better look at the device. “Ohh, so that’s what you meant,” he said as he looked at the object. “You think it’ll work?”

”Sorta has already. It has a power bank in it, I’m mostly just toying with it.” She held up some chunky-looking circuit board with similar pieces of tech on it. ”The way it works is I just have it on me and keep it against my skin. It’ll soak up whatever I’m about to use, limiting it some so I can fight longer. If I need to not be limited, I just shut it off.”

She pointed a screwdriver at what appeared to be a whole fucking rifle, resting on the wall near a bunch of other techy stuff. ”Imagine a battery that recharges itself when you’re just existing around it, worked into that.” A diabolical grin spread over Cora’s face.

It took a moment, but it clicked. “Huh. Infinite ammo?” he said, assuming the rifle was some kind of lightning thrower. Looking away from the rifle, he turned back to Cora and added, “I’d ask if you wanted my help, but I wouldn’t have any idea what I’m doing, so I’d probably just be in the way. Besides that, I’m glad to see you seem to have things worked out.”

”Yep.” She screwed a few things together on the bench, and eventually held up the completed object. It had a strap that would hold it in place when worn.

”I was more worried about everyone else, than myself,” Cora admitted. ”I was pretty sure I could walk it off. But everyone else really didn’t take it that well- Which is fair, but still.”

“Yeah, people tend to worry when a teammate explodes,” Vincent joked. “But, at least you know we care about you. And as far as I’m concerned, since you say you’re fine and as long as you’ve got a plan, I won’t worry about you.”

”I’m not dyin’ yet,” she lied. Or was she just joking? ”Thanks for asking, though. That’s cool.”

“No problem. I might be bulletproof, but it helps to know that people have my back. Just doing my part to make sure you guys know I have yours, too,” Vincent replied with a smile as he walked back toward the door. “I’m around if you need anything.”
