Speaking of, historical post vandalism is a growing concern that I'll be able to address with my almost-finished post-history system. Imagine going back to a roleplay you poured many months into just to find out that one of the key characters simply vanished because they vandalized their posts.

At least with a post-history system, if someone vandalizes their posts, I can trivially execute a query like "revert all of foobar's edits made after 15 min ago".

Dun-dun-dun.
I swear I recall the map extending across continental europe.

S'ppose twas just me imagining' things again.

Now where to learn about this corner of the world? All my medieval audiobooks I found all centers in northern and Western Europe. All I know about this place is the Christian Egyptians and the massive mosque the Byzantines- I mean romans- built.

Syria and the Levant - which is being claimed by Vilage last I checked - is pretty much the core financial center of the Roman Empire in the east with Egypt being the bread-basket as much as northern Africa is. In the recent history up to this point this region would have been the battleground between they and the Sassanids in Persia.

I don't imagine the war went as far, but with one of the major conflicts with the Persians, the Sassanids managed to get as far as Egypt and Constantinople when fighting the Byzantines. This conflict would have been a decade or two before this RP begins, or at most before Mohammad. During this conflict the Sassanids looted Jerusalem and stole the pieces of the True Cross which they took back to Persia as war trophies. When Heraculius ascended to power as Emperor he reversed the failing Byzantine favor (if in part because Constantinople was impenetrable) and drove the Sassanids back, and I think reclaimed the pieces of the True Cross from the Persians.

It was of course this conflict that laid the groundwork for what would be the weakened Byzantium and Sassanids so that Abu-Bakr and his successors could sweep in and start taking over, and for the Arabs to seize some of Byzantium's richest provinces.

And the Byzantines did not build Mosques. Mosques are a Muslim concept. The Byzantines - and later Romans - were Christians and they would have built churches. Many of which were ad-hoc'd as Mosques early on as the population of the region converted to Islam.
Perhaps a good share of other NRPs people who will go spend 6K words writing their app and making lists and stats of all their tech. This may be why NRPs tend to start so slow and die in the crib since once everyone is done making their nations they get creative block the second the word "character development" comes up. This issue doesn't affect some, but I've seen it happen before when people just start inexplicably vanishing the day IC starts despite making a massive app sheet the size of a novella only to do nothing with it.

Not to mention the OOC on top of OOC establishing each other among the group before the first IC post is laid out. Though this may come into the same boat, but I've watched it happen all too often.

It's fine and all to try and orient yourselves like that. But ideally I think that should be handled organically in IC by the writer's own ways as opposed to going on for months and months about who-knows-who, what-is-what, and who has a relationship with who. It starts things off artificially and with any source of conflict neatly patted out early.

Eh, for several of us that is our main RP, so we sort of compare everything to it.

I mean, this is the Roleplayers Guild, you sort of expect us to talk about our Roleplays a little bit.

Pretty much this.

I can understand it might sound rude. But you know, this is RP Discussion. It would go without saying that we can call upon any example of an RP - dead or alive - as a part of discussion.
A sort of freedom or ability to organically involve one's self in a plot or the inevitable plot of the RP as a whole. Or if not that: not partaking directly in the plot as a whole.

Precipice of War for is and has always been a sandbox NRP for the four/five years it's been active. Through that time the longest-ran nations have managed to organically assume their positions in the world and from that arrange the currently growing centralized plot as organically as possible. There's no force involved with breaking any sort of national or regime character, since by now everyone has arranged themselves in such a way that no one's scrambling to find some mundane reason to go to the war that we've been at the precipice of for all these years, and for two decades of lore time.
@Vilageidiotx

To add to the point about PoV Vilage makes: though I consider it an advantage that in an NRP you'll have pretty much more PoV opportunities and narrative opportunities than a single-character RP (since one has in theory many hundreds of thousand or more characters to move through and explore the world versus just one singular character), at the same time you can have too much. This leads to some characters being irrelevant to the cooperative plot, some to end up dead-ending themselves, and/or some others who probably aren't as established to the writer to have any purpose. So that can lead to a lot of disgruntling story-lines for the writer, and a mess to read; especially when there are characters that might drop off the radar for weeks or months at a time then come back up in their own PoV posts.
