I wonder what would happen if Cia suddenly decided to switch to human size inside its mouth.

It most certainly chews its food.

If I could make a suggestion as to how this could play out, maybe Cia just shrinks down to a small enough size to slip away from the Magna Pater, and then uh... maybe the Taken creature near the dust pile can have a tussle with it while the trio carries on with their business? Maybe it draws more to it and swarms it, hell I dunno.

There's a stunned dragoness lying between the two nasties. Wouldn't look very good for her.
@Cuccoruler
Okay, so, WOW. That changes a lot. For the sake of plot, let's let the dragon catch up. Not to jump to any conclusions since anything can happen, but at this rate the Magna Pater probably will just eat her up in one bite.

You should know that I'm always up for anything. My characters all powerscale to fairly match the tier of a fight.
@Cuccoruler@luclovers

The Magna Pater had strangled countless beings to death, but none in recent memory had boasted no need for blood or air. As Cia's claws cut painful grooves into the monster's tail, it turned on her with all the primal savagery that could be expected from the patriarch of monsters. It attempted to lift her up on tiptoes by the neck so that she'd have extreme difficulty manouvering her vulnerable legs away from its grinding, horrible jaws. She could kick at it plenty, but without any footing and against so brutal a creature, such a feeble resistance would scarcely delay what would come next.

A ballet dancer's worst nightmare. Shredded muscle, bleeding gills of ragged skin hanging from splintered bone, a maiming of the legs that was no simple nightmare one could wake up from. This beast was the ender of dreams, the taker of children. Up until this point, the trials of easily defeated Taken and cowardly forest animals that the adventurers faced had been about as dangerous as a canker sore in comparison.

Edit: Since I just found out that Cia is hand sized, just... I don't know, void all the above and pretend it's about to eat her like a Kit Kat bar.
Zande had indeed raised his axe, and the results of a hit were clear... But he hadn't yet struck or made clear where he was aiming!

It was understandable given the savage's strange timing. There had been an irregular pause as he wound up, and given the immense threat of the vicious axe most would prepare for it too soon. As the knight readied his shield, Zande took a sudden step forwards before attacking, aiming to plant his right foot upon the knight's left. The rubber soles and steel claws of his boot were specifically made to prevent escape. Given the size of the shield and the diversion of the axe, this trick could easily be missed. One would think Zande to be an outside fighter, who used reach to his advantage. He actually quite preferred getting close and personal.

If he succeeded in stepping on his target, then he'd lean in bearing his full weight into the stroke of his blow. Not aiming for the head or torso. Aiming right for the shield, just above that big center knob. A pulverizing blow of madman strength. When dealing with the defensive types, Zande knew well enough that the defences had to be dealt with first. He was trying to assail Zachary by fracturing or stunning the shield arm with the shock of the impact, or by breaking down the barricade itself! It might take more than a few bone numbing strikes to do so, but the scutum and the arm holding it couldn't last forever. He knew also that the knight may try attacking the foot he used for trapping with the bottom of his shield, or perhaps with a stab. Needless to say the wildman had seen it before.

I think you mean that I should have taken the first hit? I didn't think being practical was op. It doesn't block but dodge, since its made of vulnerable meat and has the experience and spatial perception to do so. Until the tail choking, I don't believe Cia had been hurt either unless interrupting a death bomb counts. Even then, it won't work since she has no blood to cut off, so its pretty meaningless. I made it clear also that she could attack the tail, for what that's worth. If the Magna Pater had been less creative about getting past the spike shield, this conversation could have been easily reversed. But I'll have the thing get hit and leave her alone anyways. Perhaps the dragon folk can teach it a lesson.

As soon as it had a hold on the princess, the monster would spin around and begin clawing its way back to the entrance, giving her no face to swipe at as it tried to drag her like a ragdoll. It didn't want to have to deal with the others. One at a time was best.

Its tail was thick and powerful, far stronger than the body of any python. With it coiled about the woman's neck, she'd have at best seven seconds before she blacked out from the lack of oxygenated blood to the brain. If it got outside and she wasn't awake to call for help, chances are she'd never be seen again. She could scratch at the tail, but she'd be hard pressed to tear all the way through the hide and muscle in time.
The wizard's sharp thinking and creative use of water magic certainly came in handy. Before he had reached the ragged jaws of the monster, its tail would be severed clean in half. It had never seen magic used like this before.

One couldn't make a living killing humans for well over a thousand years without wiles to spare, however. There's an immense disadvantage to not looking at one's opponent. Edrik would be unable to see the horror's long right arm reaching down for the saving catch. He would be able to feel it though. A set of greasy, cold claws taking him by the back of the neck before he could tumble out of reach. Needless to say, to be grabbed at the neck by a creature whose strength and claws put the assets of a Siberian tiger to shame is no mere trifle.

By the time a secure grip was found, it would probably be upon the skinny, flesh stripped length of ridged bone that constituted Edrik's cervical vertebrae.
Zande pulled free his other axe and walked right up to the knight, swinging his right one up overhead whilst bearing the left before himself to defend with. Thick tendons sought to escape the dark flesh covering his bulging right bicep, the wildman actually winding full up for a strike of immense power. Judging by the size of the gnarly battle axes, even a glancing blow to the torso would rend asunder the unfortunate that had been on the recieving end, their soul leaving their body forthwith and with no remedy.
