Got a short post up. Bandits are happening now.

My post is up as well. If there's anything to be learned from it, it's "Don't fuck with the magic wielding guys. Especially if their name is Kristoph." xD
Kristoph

Kristoph's thoughts were halted when he heard the familiar sound of arrows flying, and the sickening thunk of them hitting their marks. As he thought, two guards were felled by arrows, and suddenly he could hear someone barking orders on the other side of the gate. It seemed the invasion was starting now, and that meant Kristoph would be given no time to persuade the mercenary leader to accept his aid. This meant he couldn't perform to his full potential, as he doubted many of the mercenaries would follow any orders he would have to give. So instead he was just going to, as was the saying, lead by example.

Ignoring the impending threat of mages burning the gate open, Kristoph instead hastily looked around for anything useful. He spotted a nearby barrel, a quick investigation revealing it to be full of black powder used for making mines. An almost sadistic smirk lit up Kristoph's face as he replaced the barrel's lid, only to tip it over and give a good roll with his boot, sending it tumbling across the ground and resting against the wall... right next to the gate. If those bastards wanted to burn their way in, then they would find that doing so would have rather... explosive consequences. Offering no explanation to anyone who might have been watching him, Kristoph readied his own Fire tome, already making his decision to fight fire with fire. As soon as the gates began to fall, Kristoph thew his fire spell, the ball of flame flying to it's target and colliding with the barrel a mere split second after the gates were down and the first of the bandits had stepped through. Time for a rude awakening, Vinsenian scum!

The first sound of battle was that of a powder keg explosion. The initial blast almost certainly dealing a swift death to the idiots who volunteered to charge through first. But that wasn't the only damage Kristoph's attack had done. The keg was positioned by the wall, and as such a small chunk of it was destroyed in the blast, acting as rather big pieces of shrapnel with only one direction for the blast to direct them: outward toward whoever was standing on the other side of that section of the wall. In other words, the first half dozen or so bandits who breached the town wall were effectively dead men walking. All from a single fire spell. Not bad for what amounted to the first attack of the battle.
Simon

As he spoke with his new acquaintance, Simon's cheerful expression was immediately melted away by the sound of an explosion from outside, "They must be attacking!" he exclaimed, hurriedly getting out of his chair and making a rush for the door. Once outside, he easily found the source of the explosion. The gate had been felled and a chunk of the wall was blown to bits, but he immediately saw bandit corpses as opposed to the mercenary ones he had feared there would be. This was actually a reassurance for him, for he knew that this could only be work of this father. Of course, that didn't stop the invasion as more bandits simply rushed through in place of their unfortunate comrades. It was time to return to battle, and so Simon threw off his cloak, revealing himself for the handsome myrmidon he was, and clutched the hilt of his iron sword as he slowly, but gracefully unsheathed it.
Jared looked to Serene when she entered, having missed the discussion, "Nothing much," he said to answer her question, "but it looks like we're going to be rescuing a princess." he said this with something of an apologetic expression, knowing he had basically volunteered the others along with himself. At this the prince excused himself, leaving the room in order to have some warmer clothes fetched for the group. Elim had also left the room, telling he others he'd be waiting outside for them. With the prince gone, they were now alone and finally had some privacy. Jared decided to take the opportunity to speak more openly to his new friends.

"Look, I know I just sort of volunteered us for this little quest thing and, well, I'm sorry about that. I didn't mean to speak for everyone like I did." he said, still with an apologetic expression that was now accompanied by him awkwardly rubbing the back of his neck, "But there was no way I could just sit here and do nothing. I mean, after all," he summoned the keyblade and stared intently at it, "this thing apparently chose me to deal with these new Heartless appearances, so I may as well get started with that by helping the people here, right?" the keyblade then vanished to whatever hammer space it came from. It was then the Prince returned, letting in a couple of servants who were carrying heavy fur coats.

Jared took the coat meant for him, making sure it was bundled up nicely. Before pulling up the hood, he reach up and tugged the goggles wrapped around his forehead, going as far as to wear them over his eyes to protect them from any heavy wind or snowfall they might encounter. He went outside where he knew Elim would be waiting, "I'm... sorry about speaking for the group. But thanks for going along with it." he told him while waiting for the others to join them.

Once everyone was out and ready, Jared looked to the mountains where both Elsa and Ana went, "Well, ready to go mountain climbing?"
Apologies for the delay. Writing up a post as we speak.
Kristoph

Kristoph just stared at the girl in silence. Finally, after a moment he slowly removed his hood so she could clearly see his equally annoyed expression, "Madame, could you please kindly get your head out of the gutter? Why would you even think that?" clearly he was not amused in the slightest. Then the brat had the gull to demand payment in exchange for showing him the pegasus' owner, who was apparently named Barst, "You insult me to my face and then expect me to pay you?" he said, becoming increasingly frustrated. He might have said more, but just decided to walk away, not interested in starting an altercation with this whelp of a girl, and mumbling under his breath "...wasting my time." being the only audible part of whatever he'd just said.

He did think about the name he'd just learned though. Barst...? Barst...? Was it a name he knew? It sounded vaguely familiar but Kristoph couldn't be sure. Perhaps if he saw the man's face he might remember something, but that was obviously not going to happen with how unhelpful these mercenary oafs were being. He even considered taking Simon and finding another town, but only just for a moment. If this Barst was really Caldegian as Kristoph expected, then he would be his best bet for attaining the ear of whomever was in charge.
Simon

"I see. In that case, I'll look forward to working with you then." said Simon with a polite smile. Her mention of Caldegia garnered a brief frown on his face, but he nodded in response and took a drink from his own cup, "Horrible is an... understatement, I'd say." he closed his eyes a moment, it wasn't hard to guess he was remembering the invasion. But then he opened them again, suddenly his face showing one of grit determination.

"But that's why my father and I have come," he said, clenching a fist, "by our honor we will reclaim our home, and avenge our fallen comrades." this of course made his and his father's motivation clear. They wanted justice for what happened. Or was it revenge? Perhaps it was even both...?
Did she just imply what I think she implied? Oi, that's not gonna give Kristoph a very positive first impression of the mercs. Oh well, damage done, time to roll with it.
"Us? Well... I suppose you're about to find out, anyway." said Kristoph, standing up, "Truth is, we came from Del Monray, Caldegia before that." his straight forwardness was enough to make his son blink in surprise, but he continued speaking, "Our only intention is to join the Belinni war effort. Speaking of which, I need to find whoever is leading the defense here, so I need to excuse myself. But please, my son here can tell you more about us if you're truly curious." and with that, he left, leaving the woman alone with Simon.

Simon sat there in stunned silence, "Um, well..." he started, not sure what to say. His father's decision to to suddenly be honest came at a complete surprise to him. But since he'd been given the go-ahead to be honest, he decided to do so. He started by pushing his hood back so she could see his face, "My name is Simon. That was... well, my father. He spoke true, though, we truly did come here from Caldegia and the Free State." it was kind of a relief, really. Up until now he'd had lie to people about who he was, and truth be told it never sat right with him. Guess his father was right, he never would make a very good spy, "We really do only wish to offer our service to Belinni's defense, you have my word."
Kristoph

After exiting the Tavern, Kristoph made the camp his next destination. It wasn't hard to find, in fact he'd spotted where it was set up as he and Simon arrived in town earlier. Once he was close enough, he began idly glancing around, studying the layout and getting a proper impression of what this town's defense was like. Overall, it wasn't exactly ideal. There were no actual Belinni troops here, rather a gathering of mercenary groups, no doubt employed by the Belinni army to help bolster their ranks in the upcoming battles. But Kristoph was still confused as to why there weren't at least a handful of Belinni soldiers here taking charge. Mercenaries, while skilled, tended to not be ideal candidates for war generals for a reason. Kristoph could only imagine the nightmarish feuding that would ensue from putting a bunch of separate mercenary groups together with no clear chain of command keeping them in check. Oh well, beggars couldn't be choosers, especially in war.

He had to stop a moment when he passed the stables. Was his eyes deceiving him or... no, it really was a pegasus! But that could only mean...! For the first time in what felt like ages, his expression lit up a bit. A pegasus knight, there was a pegasus knight here! So someone else also managed to escape Caldegia? This was perfect, whoever this knight was, they would be the perfect angle for him to get in good graces with these mercenaries. There were a few people around, and so far they ignored him. That wouldn't be the case for long, though. Kristoph spoke, "Excuse me, but, can anyone point me to the owner of that pegasus? It's quite important that I speak with them."
It's fine, Ren, you're forgiven. :)
Okay so is this a town or a camp? Because I keep seeing conflicting descriptions in everyone's posts.
If there was one thing Kristoph's career taught him, it's that no plan is perfect. Sometimes, no matter how prepared you are, or how many precautions you take, there's always a chance of encountering someone who is just as prepared or as good as you are. When the woman sat next to them at their table and started remarking about subtlety only working in a royal court, he mentally shook his head. This wasn't some Vinsenian spy capable of seeing through his and Simon's act, this was just someone who made an extremely lucky guess. Still, he wasn't about to let himself blow his cover just yet. Anyone who's worked under cover will testify that just outright denying everything you're asked only succeeds in making you look that much more suspicious. Instead, the smart play was always to keep one's mouth shut, keep the other person guessing and let them come to their own conclusions, because nine times out of ten, the conclusion they come up with will either be completely wrong or just barely off the right track. Either way, the spy in question remains safe, and then has a potential angle to use on the person confronting them.

As such, Kristoph said nothing and focused on his meal. He would have liked to return to his book, but that would have been asking for trouble, and there was no way he was going to risk letting some stranger sneak a peak at his playbook. He noticed a movement of her hand, recognizing that kind of caution as he himself had done it in the past. But rather than respond, he just kept minding his own business. While it might be a bit risky to not make himself ready for an attack, it would even more risky to give a potential enemy the opportunity to realize that he was aware of their intentions. Besides, Kristoph was willing to bet that this woman had no more desire to start a bar fight than he had.

Simon, in all this, kept as straight a face as he could and simply smiled politely, "Excuse me," he said, "but you seem to be taking quite an interest in us. I'm not sure if I should be flattered or if I should be watching my back. Either way, I think we at least should know something about you first if you expect us to divulge any of our personal information to you, yes?"
