Rules

1. The GM's, or any assigned Co-GM's, word is law.
2. Standard site rules regarding flaming and the like.
3. When choosing a power, follow the rule of thumb that stronger powers should probably have stronger or more severe negative side effects.
4. Also on powers, to have a stronger power would mean having been closer to the chemical explosion and vice versa.
5. I've provided some traits of Modern City courtesy of suggestions by various people in the interest check, but feel free to make more suggestions. I want Modern City to almost be a character in its own right, with lots neat little tidbits and things to make it feel more organic and alive.
I like that third one... like a lot. Got a strange but cool Elvis vibe to it as well, which I love.
Alright, I'll certainly be keeping those in consideration, as they are quite good ideas.

Anyway, I'm in the process of writing up an OOC and I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for a Football team name? I'm including two colleges (Modern City University or MCU, and Modern City Tech or MCT) and I want to give MCU a football team that the whole town is likely proud of.

Edit: I'm also having a hard thinking up a good name for a local rock band.
Alright so we've got... rival corporations (instead of full on corruption we could tone them down to just being shady?), a big Modern City Academy as the main school, some kind of mountain landmark (might be a little strange in a coastal town but I think I can do it still), and definitely a laboratory of some kind within the business district.

Now, next question: What about people? Any kind of important or celebrity figures you'd like me to focus on? The mayor, perhaps? Maybe a local rock band or something that's popular with all the kids? Any other educational facilities such as colleges or the like that I should take into consideration?

I'm really the digging the idea of cooperatively building the setting, right now. Got the idea from a tabletop RPG called FATE.

Anyway, to answer an earlier question, I was intending this to be set in present day. Unless of course there's enough consensus to set it in a different era?
OK well I think it's pretty clear I should move to the next step and get us an actual thread going. That being said, would anyone like to offer any suggestions regarding Modern City? Companies, landmarks, schools, I'm pretty open to integrate these sorts of things into the world-building, all the better if you're planning to use them for your character backstories, giving us a nice, organic setting to work off of.
Generally speaking, yes. The idea is to essentially prevent characters from ever being as horribly OP as, say, Superman or Thor.

Also, the powers are, technically-speaking, mutations induced by the chemical explosion so it would make sense that many of them come with serious side-effects, be they physical or mental. It also allows for there to be underlying political controversy regarding the Meta-Humans. Are they still to be considered human or they Mutants? Would the term "Mutant" be considered offensive or derogatory compared to a safer phrase like "Meta-Human" which still uses the word "Human" to induce the idea that they are in fact still human? That being said, I intend for there to be both supporters and detractors of Meta-Humans, the detractors often simply calling them mutants to the point where the whole "Mutants or Meta-Humans?" debate even became a thing in the first place.
There'll be some specific rules regarding how the powers work. Unless there's an exceptional case then here is the general rules of thumb:

1. Greater powers mean you were more severely exposed to the chemicals (ie closer to the explosion).
2. Usually, those closer to the epicenter of the incident are more likely to suffer mutations or other side effects to their powers. A power like having Herculean strength might come at the cost of being mutated into a beast-person, for example.

It's a very simple premise with a very simple goal. We're to roleplay as the first generation of superheroes/supervillains in this universe, their powers pretty much all coming about due to having some level of exposure to the Chemical Explosion. As you can probably imagine, this does borrow a few cues from Static Shock, such as the chemical explosion itself being directly inspired by the "big bang" of that series. This will unfortunately limit the kinds of concepts that will be acceptable, for example magic and mysticism since such things would immediately destroy the idea of "first ever meta-humans". But hopefully that won't discourage potential players too much.

Anyway, come on in and announce your interest. Feel free to make suggestions or criticisms if you like, I do want to take everyone's opinions into consideration after all.
It better be.
@Ben I'm... not sure, admittedly. Go with the former for now and if it turns out to be too weak we can always change it or something.

@Asuu I have to admit, a 14 year old Namekian kid killing off so many attackers despite having no Ki is rather hard to swallow. He sounds like wouldn't need training at all, which somewhat defeats the point of the new Defenders being untested newbies.
